This doesn't have anything to do with mainsail. This is a linux question

This most likely means that you don't have your ssh key loaded

Or you are trying to connect to a user that isn't there

You are ssh into your pi not into mainsail.

Like I said, you either don't have your ssh key loaded and disabled the password login, or you are trying to connect with an user that doesn't exist

How do I load the ssh key

If you have one, then you just have to double click it most of the times. If you don't know what a ssh key is, then it's most likely the wrong user
