I have crowsnest installed but it can't seem to find my camera, which is definitely connected because when i ssh into my PI it's there, any idea what to do? I've tried a variety of video(X) where x is a number without the parenthesis.

And what exactly is now your issue? No log or no cam?
If no log, look at the log_path option inside crowsnest.conf and correct it

ls -l dev/v4l/video also doesnt seem to work
And correct would be either v4l2-ctl --list-devices or ls -l /dev/v4l/by-id

hello! thanks for replying sorry for the wrong tags so I have a logitech C720
PI 4 4 gb
I got it to work with ustreamer
however now I want to get it to work with camera-stream and I am not having any luck
I am sorry about the multiple tags was rushing through reading things
I tried the V3 uninstall
and reinstalled v4
which got USstreamer to work, the original issue was ustreamer didnt work at all
I now got logs but no cam with camera-streamer
