#Raspberry pi not connecting to wifi

Are you sure your Pi is booted up? Do you have a HDMI output now?
Also you should fix your tags before mete sees it: #readme message
done
the pi gives a green light and stays
and i wasnt getting any hdmi output
It's more like a linux tag as it's not a problem with MainsailOS
MainsailOS is a linux distribution. Your Pi isn't connecting to wifi so this is more like a linux problem than MainsailOS but I can understand your confusion there
So you got a steady green light right?
yeah
I am currently reading up the LED light, as the LED should stay red and not green
its both red and green
The green LED shouldn't stay on the whole time.
pis been on for almost 10 mins and still hasnt connect to wifi
oh
You can read about the LED patterns here: https://forums.raspberrypi.com/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=58151
Model 4 (B) green LED blinks regular when the PI doesn't detect the SD-card, and irregular when it boots, if the LED stays inactive (with power on) perhaps you need to repair the BOOT EEPROM code (note ONLY the RPI4 has a boot EEPROM, so don try to update the EEPROM on any other model than the RPI4).
If your green LED isn't blinking, then try to remove the power cable, then remove the SD card and then power your pi on without a sdcard and let me know what happens
There is nothing with the staying on, if I didn't overread something. So I got to the LED warning flash codes in the fourth post under the table.
ok
its doing 8 flahesh
Long flashes Short flashes Status
0 3 Generic failure to boot
0 4 start*.elf not found
0 7 Kernel image not found
0 8 SDRAM (synchronous dynamic random-access memory) failure
0 9 Insufficient SDRAM
0 10 In HALT state
2 1 Partition not FAT
2 2 Failed to read from partition
2 3 Extended partition not FAT
2 4 File signature/hash mismatch - Pi 4
4 4 Unsupported board type
4 5 Fatal firmware error
4 6 Power failure type A
4 7 Power failure type B
Its very-very unlikely the EEPROM content is corrupted, (all RPI's are tested in the factory) but to check if this the case, unplug everything from the Raspberry Pi 4, including the SD card, and then turn the power back on.
If the green LED blinks with a repeating four blink pattern then the bootloader is running correctly, and indicating that start.elf has not been found.
Yes I understood that. Your Pi is blinking 8 times instead of 4, if there is nothing connected. So if I understand it correctly, it seem like an EEPROM corruption. Did your Pi work previously?
yeah
No native speaker, so can be that I am misunderstanding it.
it was working previously
Can you try to flash something else and see if it is booting? For example a raspbian with desktop environment.
Not blinking four times with nothing but the power connected (and no SD-card) implies that the bootloader is not working correctly and should be reinstalled using recovery.bin. see https://www.raspberrypi.com/documentation/computers/raspberry-pi.html
but seems like an EEPROM corruption somehow
and only MainsailOS is failing?
yeah
Now I understand your MainsailOS tag.
yeah
What exact version are you flashing with the pi imager?
Can you send your config.txt?
It should be directly on your SD Card.
First I would try to get a HDMI output to be sure the Pi is really booting up. Also you can read the WiFi-README.txt to try to manually setup the wifi.
Was it working with the same sd card?
diffrernt
gimme a few mins
Can you try to flash another OS on this one and see if it is working? Maybe it's just a bad SD card then
sure i'll do that
i just gotta make a backup of it cause it has some other configs and another os which isn't on the imager
I meant the one you are currently trying to use
Try that one with another OS first and if it isn't working, try the one that was working with another OS
@strong axle im getting no output from the rpi
Ok, here a few hints
If you flashed the sdcard new and put it in that pi there are tasks to be done, before anything else is working
its doing at least 3 Reboots on its own
Especcially wenn you renamed your user to something different it will take around 15 Mins ( depending on SDCArd Size) to show up
an output on HDMI should be givven if there is no output and your screen stays blank it is mostlikely coruppted hardware
Either the SDCard has an Error or the pi itself
If you tried both SD cards with different OS and you waited like KwadFan said and still nothing happens. Then it might be a corrupted EEPROM like I said in the beginning.
Follow this guide to update/fix your EEPROM: https://www.raspberrypi.com/documentation/computers/raspberry-pi.html#raspberry-pi-4-boot-eeprom
like my monitor detects it
and switches over
but i get no output
if i try to update EEPROM, i get 8 blinks
Do you get a HDMI output?
The HDMI output should be green according to the docs
But if updating the EEPROM doesn't work too and you get an 8 blinking pattern. My guess would be SDRAM failure. That is nothing you can fix yourself.
Maybe @white ember got another idea.
Just to be sure. With both SD cards, with different types of OS and even with the Backup of your old OS?
yeah
i noticed that the chip next to the usb port gets very hot
If it feels like it hurts if you touch it its probably fried ... No component should be hotter than a "warm" feel.. ( Hopefully you understand my Germenglish xD )
If you need your finger to measure it than it works like, if you can have the finger on it than it is ok if you need to pull it away immediately than the component is fried. Better would be to use a ir thermometer or an ir camera
