Most of my AirPlay speakers are shown in lowercase (see attached screenshot).

I have verified that they’re correctly advertised via mDNS :

dns-sd -B _airplay._tcp
Browsing for _airplay._tcp
DATE: ---Sun 16 Mar 2025---

14:53:17.519 Add 3 13 local. _airplay._tcp. Hauptbad
14:53:17.519 Add 3 13 local. _airplay._tcp. Gäste-WC
14:53:17.519 Add 3 13 local. _airplay._tcp. Küche
…
14:53:17.519 Add 3 15 local. _airplay._tcp. Schlafzimmer
14:53:17.519 Add 2 15 local. _airplay._tcp. Schlafzimmer (2)

Also, I’m wondering why in some cases “Airplay” is shown in parentheses.

Would be be worth filing a bug on GitHub?

Thanks!

I’m aware that I can rename speakers, but I think it would be a good default not to lowercase the names.

The players shouldnt be lowercase but maybe that is how they're advertised in the raop messages . Note that MA only supports airplay 1 (RAOP) so you need to look at the raop mdns advertisements.

The (Airplay) between the brackets is for players that have another primary type, such as sonos.

Thanks! The ones with Airplay in brackets are shairport-sync, while “schlafzimmer” are HomePods. Just checked the RAOP advertisements and they’re actually announced in mixed case:

Hey! Sorry, I’ve missed your message. Thanks for fixing this! I’ve just tested this by deleting the AirPlay Player Provider and re-adding it. The names appear correctly in mixed case. 🙂
Just wondering why most of them have the word “AirPlay” in brackets. That feels a little redundant. The Snapcast player provider, for example, doesn’t seem to do that. Not a big deal, of course!

Got it, thanks! Yes, I’ve assigned custom names to solve it. When you say players that support multiple protocols, does that also apply to players that just support AirPlay 1 and AirPlay 2?
