I hated Dark Souls for similar reasons, but I could jam with Elden Ring pretty okay. The open world let's you opt out of most fights, and if you want you can grind levels all you want whenever you want by just killing basic enemies and respawning them.

Also the chosen vtt does the fantasy languages too so can talk on say dwarfism and it translates for those that may not speak English or Spanish say.
