Newt is a great main character though because he's a very different kind of lead. He's not good at magic at all, he doesn't do very well with people. He just has this niche that he's great at. Which was perfect in the first movie, because it was about him and his beasts. After that they've kind of had to force in the beasts into the plot just for Newt to have any relevance in the story and it just doesn't fit into most of them.
