The older Harry Potter games had great castle detail even if you couldn't access most sources like get a book from the library in order to make a potion while there is a whole paper telling the ingredients next to the cauldron already. Bethesda, Rockstar and CD project red are big studios that are experienced in the genre, and have worked on each of these games for a long time.
Avalanche has not nearly as many people, never done anything nearly in that scope or scale, and HL is at most 5 years in development, probably closer to 3.
