It does. A lot of indie devs that are 'bought', get given a lump sum equal that of 'x amount of sales', plus revenue earned on the platform which is at a better rate than steam anyway (steam takes 30% cut, epic takes 12%). It's not like a lot of indie games just 'sell out. It's these peoples livelyhood and long time dream most of the time, and giving in to Epic's proposal gives them financial stability they could never be sure they would get through steam, which lets keep doing what they love for so much longer.
