Eso, even though its an MMO, can be played singleplayer a lot.

It has huge quest lines, and every year comes out with a dlc with 30-40 hours more content of story if you choose to play through it properly.

You can either play through it using role play, or you can optimise builds with new sets etc which does require other people, but you don't need to play with people you know as you can run dungeons with strangers etc

That is a big problem but sometimes they show things that they know wont be how people expected but its still there. Just not how people expected it to be.

Like they show Hogwarts but that doesnt mean we will be able to explore the whole thing.

It's more that the final product wasn't more than what was shown, it was a lot less. When they say it isn't final you're more likely to think it's gonna be improved upon.

People think "not final" means "it will be better than what we see", but what it really means is "anything here can be changed at any point, don't get attached"

What cyberpunk did in this case was showing things to explore and then taking them away, or making them buggy as heck. Hogwarts might show you a room and you think you can explore the whole thing. Cyberpunk showed you the house but in the end only one room could be explored.

That's why releasing a trailer a month before the game comes out is better for the company and for the players. The game is most likely done. I'm not saying that they shouldn't hint that they are making a game but at least people wont be over excited.

It's better for the consumers, sure. But it's not better for the company. If a company spends years of their time on a product, they are going to want people to know about it. Marketing is huge, and no way would a month be enough time to reach everyone they want to reach

Franchises can get away with less, games like cod, battlefield and whatnot. They release a game every year or every other year. So their consumers are already knee deep into their previous game, so they don't want to advertise too early, because it might detract from current sales

For Cyberpunk, a lot of their trailers were thought to be more for investors iirc, but also generated a LOT of hype in terms of interest which helped monumentally in terms of the company

Yes but companies dont releases single players or mmos every year, so when they show you the whole world and half the world is a unrestricted zone then it wont be so good that there advertising a whole map to them.

Bethesda normally releases a teaser, then says nothing, and shortly before the game comes out they start fulltime marketing

That's just reality though, the developers obviously want to make the whole game available, but due to time constraints or other factors maybe things get disabled or hidden away, because it would make the game more broken. So it might suck that it's not there, but it's better than the alternative. Sure it's not a good idea to market it as fact if you're not 100% sure, but imagine if all trailers were worded vaguely. "You can probably traverse the whole map, we don't know yet". The only option at that point would be to finish the game, and then start marketing it, but that's inefficient.

Realistically, releasing a cinematic trailer is the best form of early marketing. People can tell its not entirely real.

I imagine majority of the "real" marketing comes when they have scenes representative of the final product
