True, the fact that we’re in the 1800’s gives us just enough freedom to the point where the story isn’t restricted by HP or FB, but neither is it too far away that it will feel irrelevant in the universe

yeah so there's no way we would feel that they screwed up on something, the only thing they could screw up that would ruin the experience is the lore, and they already said they're super truthful to it

I know that the game will be a love letter to the wizarding world, and thats all I need, whatever else that comes with it will be a bonus to me

See, stuff like this is why I’m hyped for the game, but Cyberpunk has basically ruined any anticipation I have for any games. I can never feel as excited again for something without thinking about the failure that CDPR delivered. It’s 2 parts of me that will probably never find balance

I think the trick is just to manage your expectations reasonably. I didn't expect a lot from Cyberpunk and I had a lot of fun with the game. Definitely not the best game ever but it easily better than a lot of other games that get released

Similarly with this game for me, I have low to no expectations so when it comes out I can just enjoy it for what it is, and not what I want it to be.

It's a mobile game so it's played differently, you can't really expect to sit down and play it for hours. They want Short consistent burst. I was really struggling with enjoying the game for a while, until I realised I shouldn't care about playing a lot at the time. Just check in on the game every time I bring up my phone for any other reason. It became easier to not get annoyed by it, as it was just there whenever I took up my phone. And the story wasn't really that catching, so I never felt like I wanted to play more.

Could they have made it differently? Sure. But they're going for longevity, so things are slow paced and the story isn't really important

Honestly it's almost been a year since the reveal trailer, and it doesn't feel like that long at all. Even if it is another couple of months before we hear anything about the game, I think it will feel like no time at all given how fast this year has gone by

I think the reason that I feel that Summer's gonna feel longer than any other time is because a lot of us are expecting for something to be shown due to the fact Summer is where all of the main game events happen. Any other time, we don't have much reason to speculate that we will get any new information or content.

If you think about it, when the game was set to release in 2021, we didn't hear about it until September, now that it's set to release in 2022, it's not unlikely that we won't see or hear anything until September again. Not that they have to follow such patterns or anything, but makes sense. It seems logical with the delay that they don't want to ramp up marketing until they feel it's getting to a point where they are confident that release targets will be met.

Yeah, I think it's for the better. I also think that No Man's Sky has greatly affected it as well, since they delivered on zero promises and used interviews only to market and advertise the game. Many people may know your game now that you've advertised and gave a bunch of promises, but nobody's going to buy your game because you didn't deliver on those promises.

I think developers shouldnt give interviews only for advertising. Just something like sneak peeks would be fine aswell.

I honestly think Cyberpunk didn't really do anything wrong marketing wise. They were super open about what they wanted the game to be, whenever they showed stuff they were very clear about how this was just work in progress and nothing you saw could be expected to end up in the game. People usually think that means, that what is shown isn't finished and will be even better on release. But game development is too iterative and many many things will end up being cut. I think the main problem with cyberpunk was just that they got way too little time to develop the game. 4 - 5 years just isn't enough for the scale and quality they were going for.

I don't watch or read reviews before buying games really, I just watch gameplay and decide if I want to get it or not. I'm usually very in tune with what kind of games I like and dislike that I can tell almost immediately if it's a game I am gonna get. I tend to only watch reviews of games I've finished so I can see what other people think about it.

and some games I just know I will play no matter what, it doesn't happen very often and I've never regretted it either. Hogwarts Legacy is easily one of them, they can show the most buggiest gameplay and I'll still play it.

First of all UE5 is still early days. The two main selling points of UE5 is Lumen and Nanite. From what I've heard Lumen isn't very flexible with current lighting methods, so it's either let lumen do bulk work, which would require a lot of new work to be done and throw out a lot of already completed work. Or just don't take advantage of lumen, at which point the benefits are minimal. Nanite could probably help a lot for the scenery, especially forest and foliage. But nanite works better on high density meshes. Which would mean a lot of busywork to get get the high poly sculpts, UV unwrap them so they fit existing textures or just retexture them completely. All of which seems like a waste of time honestly.

And that's not to say that they might have made a lot of custom tools and logic for the game that might break with a new ue5 version due to changes in the source code.

Fair enough, does make a lot of sense, although I would hope that they would've integrated a safe way for UE4 projects to be converted into UE5 ones. Anyways I can't really have a big say in a topic such as this as I'm not very experienced in the topic haha

Back when I studied game design I wanted to upgrade from 4.08, to 4.10 or something like that and it broke almost everything haha

Much like the music industry the high production companies are always going to try and cater to a larger audience which means the games end up following a successful formula to pump out as many games in a franchise as they can. That does not mean developers aren’t putting their heart in them and trying to make them as good as they can be. But deadlines are rough so of course any shortcut that can speed up production will most likely be taken. Which is why you often see reused assets and, engines will usually be reused, that’s what they are for.

Did they announce anything about the gameplay? What I'd love to see about HL is well-designed magic lessons.
