I always see games just as games, so I can never really pretend it's me. But it's easier for me to just create a different character that I can pretend is someone else in the story, because then they would kind of just be 'another character in the story'. However I can just influence what they wear and choose. So I'm more like the angel/devil on the characters shoulders

Quitting drinking mainly fixed it for me, as well as actually having a set schedule that I've stuck to over a long period of time.

Well, I never drank in the first place. And I don't particularly have a schedule due to lack of work. However I think a proper schedule is more likely once I get something long term

Yeah, falling asleep was always the hard part for me, the schedule definitely helped with that.
When I was a kid, I would just law awake for hours. Started having a nightcap when I got older and it helped but actually made sleeping much worse over time.
It was me setting 10 pm as 'in bed and laying down' that started to get my brain on the right track.
So now my brain sees 10 pm approaching and starts preparing itself for sleep.

Yeah I have that problem where I can go to bed, and just lay for hours and hours and hours. I usually have an audiobook going to help from distracting thoughts, but doesn't actually make me sleep
Now it's so easy for me to know when I won't be able to sleep so I'll just watch something or be on my phone until I get tired. Instead of just lying there
