@cerulean crystal Cores have more to do with the type of spells being cast. Dragon heartstring is good for large, powerful spells. Unicorn hair a better all around core, is less temperamental, and though more difficult to turn to the Dark Arts, its loyalty and wand wood may still allow for Dark Magic to be used. I doubt there were never any Death Eaters with a unicorn core wand, it's incredibly common. Mostly, they are used because they produce the most consistent magic.

I also think unicorn core is most affected by the type of wand wood used, so if you have a unicorn core, it's best to look up how it pairs with your wood, too. Because it can yield wildly different results.

@cerulean crystal I think the cores themselves can degrade over time if mistreated, but as for wizard-wand relationship, the wand's behavior can change yes. Like, you'll have to sway most wands to the Dark Arts if you want to practice it. There's not gonna be just an evil wand waiting around, you know. Some wands, like those with phoenix cores, show more ability over time. So kinda just depends.
