Heya, I just installed the game yesterday. I would like to ask anyone who knows how to fix the lags/shutter in the beginning of the game (it's really lagging a lot when I move around and i can't play smoothly. There's not really a good fix. Usually people play with minimum settings, which helps a lot, but it will never fully get rid of lag.

It normally it takes around 20 minutes the most. It should let u fall off the world and u will land on water, then u could use your broom to fast travel back to a Floo...

See if u can load manual previous save or force close the game and restart

I don't have a broom, when I fall from the world I fall and when it stops there is nothing. I don't see any water and it won't let me open the map for quick teleportation.

It seems as if when it falls, it returns to a point on the map but always below the map.

To fall, you have to be outside the map boundary, right?

Avoid running at full speed since sometimes it makes it more likely that you'll run onto unloaded ground and fall through the map.😭 make frequent manual saves to avoid any unlucky issues.

There's no autosave that unlocks that spell. The skill is not learned from the Korean guy or the owl. U just need to advance the related side quest to unlock. 🥹

Updating and clean reinstall of AMD drivers

Verifying game files

Deleting shader cache

Disabling overlays (Steam, Discord, AMD)

Launching with DirectX 11

Running the game as administrator

Changing audio output devices

Interestingly, other heavy games like Witcher 3 and Elden Ring work perfectly on my system, so I believe the problem is specific to Hogwarts Legacy and may involve a conflict between the game, AMD drivers, and audio output (HDMI/DisplayPort).

which is what i dont understand. some mods are labled as "FMC", others are labeled as "MMC" then some are labeled as "FMC & MMC". but what the heck does that mean?

So MMC I believe means it’s for your character FMC I’m not positive but if you google it I’m sure there’s a website that explains it

Another helpful trick is to just uninstall all mods then reinstall them and activate them that sometimes helps

FMC: Female Main Character (the female player character)

If it gets difficult don't hesitate to play on lower difficulties You can do that by going to the Options Menu, selecting Gameplay Settings, and choosing from Story, Easy, Normal, or Hard at the top of the list.

Infinite Loading Screen in "Play Mods" Mode – Issue Persists After Removing Mods & Reinstalling Game

Description of the Issue:

I am experiencing an infinite loading screen when trying to play Hogwarts Legacy in Play Mods mode. My normal save works fine, but when I try to load my modded save, the game gets stuck on the loading screen. Even after removing all mods using the Hogwarts Legacy Creator Kit & Mod Manager, the issue persists.

I uninstalled and reinstalled the game, then restored my saves, but the problem remains. I tried loading the modded save with:

One mod enabled → Still stuck on loading screen
No mods installed → Still stuck on loading screen

I also verified the integrity of game files via Steam, but the issue continues.

Additionally:

When I load my game outside of Play Mods mode, my progress is different from my Play Mods save.
I am unable to load any previous saves under Play Mods to check if it’s just that specific save file.

Troubleshooting Steps I Have Done:
Played in Normal Mode (Without Mods) –
The game loaded perfectly with no issues.

Went into Play Mods Mode and Uninstalled All Mods –
Tried to load my game with no mods installed, but it still got stuck on the loading screen.

Restarted My PC –
Played in normal mode first, and the game loaded fine.
Then, I went back to Play Mods mode, and it was stuck on the loading screen again.

Uninstalled & Reinstalled the Game –
Removed all game files and did a clean reinstall.
Added my save files back.
Tried launching Play Mods mode with one mod enabled → Still stuck.
Tried launching Play Mods mode with no mods installed → Still stuck.

Verified Integrity of Game Files via Steam –
Checked for missing or corrupted files.
Steam did not detect any issues.
The issue still persists.

Tried Loading Previous Saves in Play Mods Mode –
I cannot load previous saves in Play Mods mode to test if it’s only the latest save that is broken.

Request for Assistance:
Why is Play Mods mode still stuck even after removing all mods and reinstalling the game?
Is there a way to fix Play Mods mode without losing my progress?
How can I recover my modded save if Play Mods mode is not working?

man i finally found a game i can play/grind. i was having so much fun and now this happened all of a sudden. This happened mid game too. (With mods) I was doing quests and side quest untill it change to night time. I couldnt interact with quests nor teleport. ||Those Guardians are tough to beat specially in early games.
Just make sure you have the Disillusionment charm active at all times.

Wait for prefects and ghosts to turn their backs or move away from your path before proceeding.

For combat tips
Combine spells for maximum damage. For example, use Accio followed by Incendio to deal massive burst damage.

The enemies use teleporting melee attacks so dodge immediately when you see a red circle over your head and ranged projectiles block with Protego when a yellow circle appears.

If you are consistently struggling, u can consider changing the game's difficulty to "Story Mode" in the settings, which makes the game much easier and lets you focus on the narrative.||

Remove the mods from your hard drive's folders that contain them (there are 2 folders) & uninstall them from the in-game mod menu. I have to delete my mods from the folders they're in & uninstall them from the in-game menu to force every mod that has an update to take the update itself. Otherwise, the game fails to start.

The knight armor is the Legendary Armor. I have it in an overhauled color in my Autumn's Bane outfit mod for the MC if you wanna get it from Gladrags.

That's b/c I have the outfit set to be purchased & I made it with different colors. Unlocking it with the Unlock All Gear overrides the Autumn's Bane mod. Keep in mind that the default version has to be unlocked through the challenges. Everything that has Mydnyte20 as the author is what I've made. ♥
The Ladies Mini Pack & Men's Mini packs are for the NPCs. The MC sets go to Gladrags, but you have to have him refresh his stock in order to find it. He restocks every 3 days, but there's a mod to force him to refresh his stock.

i used to use the armor for fights like in the spider cave and dark arts one to either fight in the middle of night, or against the ashwinders. why? because i thought it looked great and fitted my playstyle. together with the dark arts outfit i used the black wand and black handle

Gladrags is in Hogsmeade, yes. Dekita has the Vendor Stocks mod that allows you to force the vendors to refresh their stock for 50 knuts. get that one & the "Add Knuts" mod by SGoldWB to max out your money on-hand. Then you can refresh the stock at Gladrags to find my MC sets.

No problem! The Add Knuts mod is nice to have when you're looking for outfits at Gladrags & he doesn't have them right off the bat.

from what i can tell, it adds winter/holiday themes. like rudolph, unicorns pulling a trolley, snowmen, sleds on hills, flozen lakes with the option for ice skating. in other words, it is all visual and doesnt interfere with vanilla gameplay style like most mods

thanks for the reply. what confuses me is that the seasons mod says it properly aligns events/looks with seasons, but the other says it makes sure you don't skip stuff like Halloween by going too fast. I like taking my time, so my worry is if i take too long playing with the seasons one, could I be in doing the first quests while the year is ending(Christmas/winter), and if the other mod will actually sort of stop time for me if I'm taking too long with the main quests.

All I can tell you is to try searching for the same mod in the in-game library, a lot of mod authors on Nexus ported their stuff to CurseForge (which is where the in-game library draws from) when official support came

If it's not there then maybe you can comment on the Nexus page asking the author to consider submitting it to CurseForge, but there is a chance it'll get denied since all of the officially-supported mods need to be vetted by the devs first before they're approved

Okay, for the game saves that have mods, go into your hard drive & delete the mods. Then, go into the game, uninstall them & shut the game down. Reboot the game & reinstall all the mods. Sometimes it's a matter of too much memory cache in use & the mods need to be deleted along with the game having them uninstalled & rebooting the game in vanilla mode. Also, make sure your PC has all updates done before starting the game as Microsoft is notrious for hogging the memory when an update has been released.

Hi y’all I have an issue on my game. All the moths glitches throughout the game and idk how to resolve it. There’s a quest called the helm of urtkot where there are moth glitches so I can’t open the door. There’s mirror moth quests that are also glitching. They won’t come to me when I use lumos.

I believe you can only cast the Curses when you have a valid target, so I don't think you can.

Im not sure if the training dummies count as valid targets or not, you might be able to cast Crucio in front of Professor Weasley if you can.

The only limit to mods is the memory of your computer & the compatibility of the mods among each other. 🥰 Some of my mods will NOT work with other mods, but the main one you'll need to use mine is the Floo Companion mod. That mod alone allows you to pick any student or professor to run around with you! You can have Headmaster Black himself out running around or even Rookwood as a companion. So funny to have the bad guy with you while you take out his team. 🤣

If you uninstall a mod, the save will reflect the removed mod. My Wicked Witches & Wizards mods come with NPCs having full spell loadouts, so Garreth, Lucan & many others will be useful in battle & have a variety of spells to cycle throuh.

I have set my Hogwarts Legacy back to the where I have access to my own mods again before the big update

Now ofcourse I do not have the "Exclusive content" ... So I fixed it with a mod.

I do have everything now, except for one strange thing that is happening.
I do not have the Felix Felicis potion, yet before I did have them because there are some still left on my brewery stations.
I just cannot make them anymore, nor do they appear in my inventory.

Anyone who might knows a solution or does have a mod that works ?

I really enjoyed Hogwarts Legacy overall, but after finishing the game I felt the need to share some constructive feedback and ideas for the future of the series.
This is not hate — more like thoughts from someone who loves deep RPGs like Gothic and The Witcher.

Thoughtful Feedback on Hogwarts Legacy
First of all, I want to say that Hogwarts Legacy is more good than bad.
Hogwarts itself, flying on a broom, the atmosphere, music, and visual respect for the Wizarding World are fantastic. You built a very strong foundation.
However, after finishing the game, it feels unfinished — like a polished beta rather than a fully realized RPG.
The biggest issue is linearity and lack of meaningful choice.
House selection barely matters (aside from one quest), most quests have only one scripted solution, and player decisions rarely affect the world. Compared to games like Gothic or The Witcher 3, this is a missed opportunity.
Side quests try to be varied, which is good, but many feel shallow.
One clear exception is the Haunted Hogsmeade Shop quest — easily a 10/10. It proves how strong the game can be when atmosphere and storytelling come first. Unfortunately, this feels like an exception, not the rule. Characters like Peeves deserved full questlines.
The open world is large, but not alive.
A smaller, denser map with NPC routines, emergent events, and meaningful interactions would have been far more engaging. Exploration often leads to loot instead of stories.
The main story and Ancient Magic feel underdeveloped.
Ancient Magic is presented as something special, but functions mostly as an overpowered attack. It lacks deep lore, philosophy, consequences, or player agency. It could have been a system to study, specialize in, and shape the world with.
Sebastian’s storyline is the strongest, but the ending feels unfinished and needed branching outcomes. Other companion stories feel fragmented.
Overall, Hogwarts Legacy relies heavily on nostalgia. It works — but as a standalone RPG, it lacks depth and reactivity.
You have built an amazing foundation. With deeper systems, meaningful choices, and a more living world, a sequel could be truly special.

Speaking of which, i wonder if there is a mod that prevents a lot of the hats from making your hairstyle disappear. I always find that I rarely ever use hats because I want to keep my character’s hairstyle.

Then you would have to check the individual mod pages for updates. If you've been playing for over a year, it's possible the version change made those mods obsolete too. Hence the in-game mod menu connected to curse forge

If you save your game then yes, you will be able to pick up where you left off just like normal, it's just that progress doesn't carry over between vanilla and modded saves, so anything you do on your modded playthrough won't carry over to your vanilla one or vice-versa

me too. Honestly, I hope we act more like a student rather than do a lot of quests through the majority of the gameplay. I also think we should have more customization for our characters and adding different hair types. I’ve also heard a ton of the fans want romance as an option which would be difficult since the game mainly focuses on your life as a Hogwarts student and completing tasks and such. Other than that, the game is good and the quality is amazing in my opinion!!

Hi, i have a big ask! I made a few face mods for HL. They all work completely fine, besides one. So i decided to scratch it and remake it completely from the start. Now the mistake that was there is fixed and the mod works completely fine for me, but it doesn't work for my friend. He says it won't let him load him into a game. So I can't tell if its a mod issue, or his issue. Would anyone be so kind and test this mod for me?

This may not be the spot to ask, but those that play modded, how do ya'll get passed the bugs with the main Trials?? I managed to get an unmoded old save through the first trial - now I am on the 2nd trial and there are far too many hours worth of gameplay to get my old non-modded save caught up to complete it. I specifically can't get past the 2nd part of the trial - the arch won't rotate, it doesn't move at all. I've attempted disabling all mods and loading the game, but it will not load up. So I'm not entirely sure how to get past this trial? :/

Try turning off the mods for that save, while still in “play mods”. Get through the bugged part. Save and reload with mods active again

Seems as though when trying to disable mods, if I was still wearing like modded clothes it wouldn't load me in, however when taking all modded clothes off then disabling mods it worked. THANK YOU!!

LOOKING FOR SOMEONE TO CONVERT AN OLD MOD - PAID(?)
hello!! sorry if this message doesn't belong here, i'm not sure where i should post. If mods need to delete it i completely understand!

• i played HL long ago and i had my MC modded. I stopped playing for a long time but i want to resume the game where i left it. Thing is i want all the new updates and mods but i can't find a similar face preset for the one i used before the in-game mod manager update, so i'm looking for someone to convert the preset since i want my character to look as i remember him

• i would do it myself but the devkit/creator kit is way too big for my pc

• i understand not wanting to convert another person's mod, even though it was just a game's preset edit. so another option would be to have me edit the head in blender or something and your job would be to import it to the devkit! (like remaking the preset instead of converting it)

btw: i tried to contact the original creator but they deleted their nexus account.
and i'll be able to pay around 10~15$ for the time wasted on my silly request 💕

With the way the Creator kit most skirt mods have the legs and skirt modelled together so they may not work with other mods that change the leg gear.

The mod would probably need to be remade with a different leg model.

It bothered me that beast and gear were the only sellable item, so I modified the grouping within UI_BP_Vendor on the player side. Problem is, request widget override doesn’t function properly. With that in mind I tried a workaround to look for the widget being created, hide it, and show mine instead. Still doesn’t seem to be working though

If you just want to modify the items the vendors in the base game sell it'd probably be easier to just change their inventory in the DB Static Table

That would work if I wanted to be able to purchase more items from them. The sell side pulls the player’s inventory, then the logic after only supports filtering beasts or gear

I'll check it when I get home, what the vendors can accept should be defined in their static table when they're created then it just displays what items the player has in their inventory that fit the criteria.

I was doing it all wrong, apparently I was using a modded skin color that conflicted with the mod outfit but then I reached out to the creator and told me to use a vanilla skin color which works now : )

I was able to find the container names for the vendors, but not their content. After checking the widget, the groups and item buttons are formed from the inventory pulls of the vendor or player. On the player side, it only pulls the players items from the ActorBackpack before assigning the groups. Modifying this to check the other player containers would show the relevant items. Whether or not the vendor accepts the sale, I could do a workaround that would visually be the same, but operates differently underneath.

I’m still left with the original issue though. RequestWidgetOverride doesn’t seem to fire, so I can’t swap it out. Instead I tried searching for the widget on tick, and inserting an overlay. No results there either

there should be a “play with mods” in the menu section when u first log in, it has a built in mod section so no need to put it manually in ur files. i remember u have to log in thru WB to access mods and it should let u after that : )

and then u can browse any mods u want and they should have an install button where u then go to the enable mods in the top left corner and click on ur character where u will see ur mods in the right corner. click the mods u want, and click accept and it should be later incorporated in the game
