There's definitely cases where English dub criticism is warranted, to be fair. Main example I always think of is Final Fantasy XIII telling the Vanille VA "just copy the JP dub" so sure it sounds good but telling the VA don't do your own take makes me question why they were hired to begin with

I guess the intent was "it's closer to the original intent so mimicking it would help bring it closer to the source" but that's still such a strange direction to take
