Mmh I would actually disagree. In my personal view, if you think a tool "only" has potential, you'd treat it with care. You don't toss all other tools to the side immediately, but instead monitor the progress and benefits/detriments

For example, if you wanna keep in the realm of AI, contactless payment started growing significantly somewhere in the mid to late 2010s, a time during which AI wasn't a major public topic at all. However banks back then were in fact using AI to monitor payments to make sure contactless payments weren't being used illegitimately (i.e. through stolen cards or NFC relay attacks). Highly specialized AIs did a great job monitoring this; however they didn't right away fire the entire department doing the same job, they had people to keep the AI and its results in check. This is how you introduce a tool you see potential in, you use it but keep the old methods around

Nowadays though, companies are in fact ready to immediately toss all established methods aside for AI, and there are plenty reports showing that this has been working out awfully for these companies. Imo this is not a tool they just see potential in, it's people doubling down on something that simply isn't nearly as well developed as they imagine

Well, when we talk about AI, we gotta split things, we have generative AI and general purpose AI, both are different things, i'll be honest that i wasn't on the train until last year, it was very much awful, but now, atleast when it comes to generative AI, i'm using it for my work constantly, instead of losing 2 hours doing some script to setup some device, i do it in 5 minutes, instead of taking 2 hours to do some sheet i also do it in 5m and it upload on google for me, so its not just the potential itself, its already going on and it can only go up from here, and i do understand that it isn't for everyone, but we can't exagerate for either side, just like any tool, it'll be good for the right job, and awful for others, and right now, in the things its good at... its scary how good it is.
