usually gs is used for weapon swap combo since its vertical charge attack deal alot of dmg, or used as a defensive weapon when you're low because of the stoneform mechanic, or in team modes you use it to crash the fight with the 3rd stage horizontal charge attack

but you shouldn't use it as your main weapon

if you want heavy weapon as main weapon, use polesword, as a main weapon it's better in every way compare to greatsword
