Every boss has gap in their attack chain, you usually learn their pattern and dealing with it accordingly, usually if you want to defuse and counter, you don't defuse -> aegis break attack, you going for the counter to take the chunk off aegis. If you want to aegis break attack you will need to know if it is safe or you can cancel your character aegis break

Yeah Defuse Solve consuming Stamina does make it a bit worse for more aggressive bosses, but it does have the advantage of having an iframe on cast. So you can activate it and dodge cancel it for a pretty long iframe.

Well, you cannot chain defuse with Viper and Kurumi very well, atleast my experience with them, Feria can chain and stick to her target very well and the fact she can cancel the defuse aegis attack make her defuse superior for me. In showdown you will realized that you want to stick to the boss rather than stay away from them.
