TwoTrees SP5 Salvage

So, I found an old SP5 on FB marketplace for next to nothing and I thought it was too good to be true. I was right, but I bought it anyway. 😅
The previous owner got it from a friend and he tried upgrading it himself with a new dragon hotend, orbiter 1.5 extruder, and diamond toolhead, but I guess he got in over his head and decided to ditch the project.
I plan on picking up where he left off with my own build that is going to be very frankensteinian with pieces and inspiration from Merc1.1, Ratrig, Voron, and VzBot.

Originally I was going to use the dragon hf hotend that it came with...until I noticed what the pervious owner had done to it. 😅
It looks like it had clogged and he tried to drill it out but ended up drilling right through the heatbreak, so for now I'm going to use a chc volcano hotend I had laying around from my Flsun SR rebuild. But the parts I'm Planning on using are:

CHC Volcano
Orbiter 1.5
120mm CPAP cooling
Nitehawk36
Knomi v2
EVA 3 Toolhead

Eventually once I source the parts for it, I'm also planning on utilizing the ZeroG Hydra

it looks like a decent toolhead except that it only accepts v6 style groove mounts???

I agree. When I was looking for a toolhead, I was actually leaning towards the stealthburner, but that would require a lot of modifications to the gantry. Then I found EVA, which I really liked the modularity of.

I found this gantry rebuild that uses kind of the stock setup since I like the orientation of the linear rails, but I wanted something more rigid for the x axis than what comes stock

And the CHC volcano I have for now it also groove mounted, but I'm working on getting a hold of a rapido uhf and I'll swap them out

I already bought a bondtech cht v6 nozzle before I realized the hotend was ruined. 😅

I suppose it is just cheaper to get the v6 extender, though

I'm a long ways away from wiring anything yet since I'm still waiting on shoulder bolts and various screws, but mail day came with goodies for the build 🤩

Now I just have to wait for the gantry parts to reprint, because the original files did not allow for tolerances or shrinkage so I had to resize them by about 3% 🙃

Toolhead is slowly coming together. Still waiting on my cartographer and I need to reprint the carriage for a MGN12H, but it's looking good!

Test fitting the A/B motor mounts, and I'm debating just leaving the top part off and getting some 2040 extrusions to brace it and leave open. 🤔
Hydra motor mounts are also printed and I'm considering being lazy and letting the motors sit on top of the electronics bay. Otherwise, I'm not sure what the best way to drill out the holes for the motors, either dremmel or stepped drill bit

It also just occured to me, if I get rid of the top and add extrusions, I may as well do the full Merc conversion. I think I may actually gain build volume if I do that, too

I'm at the point where I'm trying to finish this build with what I have on hand and reusing as much of the original frame as possible. It's a little jank since the stock frame uses 2040 extrusions for the z axis and they have mountings predrilled in the center, but I figure I can screw it into the base and it should be sturdy enough. I can also remix the rear motor mount so that it either wraps around the 2040, or just cut it off entirely and just have the motor mounted inside the electronics bay and just let it be a guide for the linear rail

Alright, I finally got in the rest of what I need to finally finish this build!

Now to find the time 😅

I designed some adapters so I can still use the stock bed with the hydra for now, so we'll see how well those hold up.

This is what I'm using for the gantry. I'm waiting on jst-ph connectors, but I'm hoping to start getting it together this evening. I may have to cut down some more of the extrusions to get it to fit.

Toolhead is nearly finished. Now, I'm waiting for a new shroud to print and I'm planning on vapor smoothing it to make it nice and glossy 😎
