I made a fan shroud for the BigTreeTech Octopus Board :)

A simple mod to cool your fans on your octopus board

Files:
The printed files have fan holes with 3mm diameter so you can tap screws into the plastic.
The CNC files have fan holes with 2.6mm diameter so you can thread the metal.

Bill Of Materials:
M3x10mm - 12
25-30mm, 3mm ID, 6mm OD Standoffs (Situational) - 4
M3x40mm Screws (For Standoffs) - 4
4010 Axial Fans - 3

More details and downloads on the Printables page!

A fan shroud that fits the Octopus v1.0, Octopus v1.1, and Octopus pro to cool the drivers. Multiple logos Embedded!! :) | Download free 3D printable STL models

Actually I recommand to use M3 Screws that are 10mm longer than the Standoff you end up using for the said standoff to account for the plate thickness and the PCB thickness and have enough thread left to go inside the m3 heatset inserts under the PCB

#

So example you use 30mm stadnoff then use 40mm M3 Screws

Should this fit the max ez too?

#

Never mind. It should. I looked up the specs of them.

Iโ€™ll try it out once Iโ€™m up and running again.

gusty agate
#

Best try a print before ordering it on SCS if that was your plan

woeful thorn
#

Yeah definitely.

Not yet. Hopefully in the next few days. Been busy.

paper harness
#

Im gonna try to get it CNC'd or laser cut in the next few weeks.

gusty agate
#

I got one in production should get shipped early this week from SCS

woeful thorn
#

I did a test print and the holes line up pretty good for the max ez. Might be some clearance issue in one of the corners depending on stand off diameter but most should work.

gusty agate
#

If it's minor I'm sure Charlotte wouldn't mind making the Fix and Lable it for Octopus Max

woeful thorn
#

The ones I'm using aren't really standoff so they are super oversized. I'm going to order some actual ones and test it. It fits even with my oversized ones so I imagine it'll fit for just about everyone.

#

Unfortunately I'm having surgery Wednesday so I won't be able to check again until next week

gusty agate
#

I used 30mm long ones

Yeah my 30mm was for BTT included TMC Drivers Heatsinks.

#

the plate floats like 1-2mm above top of these heatsinks

gusty agate
#

They might ship my aluminum plate tomorrow:

woeful thorn
#

Did you get the fans tapped or just leave it and use nuts?

gusty agate
#

I'll go tapped but didn't pay for it SCS charges too much. I'll do it by hand when I get it.

woeful thorn
#

Yeah I priced it and seemed super expensive. Double the cost.

gusty agate
#

Exactly. and the tool to do it costed me 15$ on Amazon with the bits

#

I got it to tap the M5 for the Tension tower

#

and it also has the M3 bit

paper harness

#

I'll soon get it, pictures will follow:

gusty agate
#

That is looking really nice. Just have to tap my fan holes and I can install it.

#

It really looks better than the printed version

#

I like that we still see the aluminum grains even if it's anodized black.

gusty agate
#

Underside after tap and fans installed. M3x10 fits flush with the 2mm thick aluminum.

paper harness
#

the only reason theyre so quiet is because they dont push any air!!

#

I need to find a better 4010 alternative on amazon

gusty agate
#

Gonna post these as a Make on your Printables

#

It's true they don't blow a lot

#

Center is so big

#
#

the winsinn are 5700 RPM vs this is 9000 RPM

paper harness
#

yeah but those arent on amazon, and Im lazy lol

gusty agate
#

For the Driver I think I'll be fine with the winsinn but for my heatbreak cooling I'd like something better

#

I won't push my 5 Plus like @upper knot push Zeus

paper harness
#

yeah. get some 2510s from fabreeko. theyre on actual drugs

#

Honeybadger 2510 axial fans: born to be a drone, forced to cool my heatsink

gusty agate
#

For my Goliath I think it's 2510

paper harness
gusty agate
#

Yeah received it last week for my 5 Pro

gusty agate
#

The cooling plate really make a difference, my 2240 report a 30 to 40 Celcius drop in temp when I turn the fans on.

Does this fit the octopus max EZ?

paper harness

Hoping this mod will remove some jank from my cooling solution today

Might have to remix it for the Manta M8P so it can go in my F400

Thank you both @paper harness @gusty agate , this is why I love this community

nocturne aspen
#

Hey @paper harness Check it out. I'll be putting these on your printables page soon enough

#

This removed a lot of jank and dropped the temp of my 2240s by about 20C

Gotta get us both our Pursameters

paper harness
#

nah I havent gotten more prusameters for a while lol

#

hey @paper harness mind sharing the step file for the zerog version? I'd like to edit it with printed stand offs but onshape isn't quite happy with the stls :/

#

I can import them and add the standoffs, but it refuses to merge the parts into one and if I export them as one part with components in a 3mf file, Orca complains the model has non manifold edges

paper harness
rugged bough
#

right the stl is just an extruded dxf?

No worries, I got the DXF working in onshape, thanks for your work and help!
