#AWD motor mounts

I'd definitely say you could see some improvements at 9mm,
fwiw with a full metal gantry 9mm (2wd), stock X extrusion on a 255 printer i run 230hz
I tried going higher over 200Hz, I can get better input shaper recommendations ~6k but those are just on paper the print quality goes down, my guess the length of the belts and the flimsiness of the carbon tube are my biggest weaknesses, that's why I was considering awd because that would basically reduce the length of the belt in tension by 50%, netting me accelerations similar to a printer around the size of yours
Yeah, could be worth a try, Effective belt length does have a huge impact
Hello everyone, does anyone know what the 7th and 8th motors do for the 8WD mod? I can't figure it out with their CAD file
They’re extra motors for the hybrid system
So instead of having 2 for hybrid y assist you have 4
has anyone built the awd full metal front? they are obviously wrong, the hole is not big enough to mount a motor there, is the version from github outdated?
How does it affect the quality of one axis is exponentially faster than the other, are you still limited by the X axis movement speeds? I was quite curious on the side effects and what benefits it would have to increase just one of them
Your Y is way heavier, so fx. in my case on 2wd, my Y shaper recommends about 10k accel, while my X recommends 23k, adding some more motors to Y would help boost that so its not /2
Drawbacks would probably be syncing? and some kinda weird and sub optimal belt pathing, but I don't think zerog as a project is on an extremely sensitive belt path like that
Where do I find the max accelerations? I was running the motor test and just went for a value were I wasn’t skipping any steps but higher than the standard 10k acc
I used the wrong wording there, 'max' is ofcourse just whatever you can run and have reasonably quality to your standards, i mean what the shaper recommends me, which for your IS can be seen here

When I had it on mine X and Y were about the same if anything Y was more than X cause I have 6 motors for Y and 2 for X
Do you run 9mm belts with FMG and the AWD mod?
Or do you have 6mm belts which fit up to the front metal stanciu mod
Not AWD, just 2nd 9mm
my problem is my printer is based on ender 5 plus and with just 2 motors the legth of the belt is to much, I will combine the 2 mods tomorrow in fusion and see what I get
what's the math behind this 2.5/17.5 offset between the motor and the toothed idler, I would need at least 1-1.5mm more room for the FMG AWD combination, otherwise the plate cutting would overlap, it's not tragic, but it's not ideal if I keep these measurements
@lunar cedar how did you calculate this?
Lol that explains things, I was going way beyond that I should’ve paid more attention to the charts 🫠😅
Yeah the way nick explained it makes sense, I wasn’t thinking of the extra weight the Y has to carry compared to X
Are you looking at the metal version or cutting the plastic one out of metal? Stanciu made a metal version that works with turtles FMG mod
Once I add AWD imma see if I can adapt a tool head or make one myself for the NG so I can do the Mad Max upgrade, I might actually have to get an octopus board for everything I’d wanna upgrade 🫠😅
I am looking for a metal version that works with FMG but the step files from git can't work the way they are right now
Which git are you looking at?
Ahh okay yeah that’s the latest one I know of working. It may need some adjustments idk how he did it but he hasn’t been active in awhile
the first thing I noticed was the hole for the motor being to small, 10mm instead of 22mm. I will adjust the design following Turtle's FMG part choice
I tried to follow Turtle's part choice with 1 major exception I had to use something like this https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005008132248267.html to mount the motor to the top plate and to screw the bottom plates and printed part into it, how does it look?
I'll polish it tomorrow and order the plates and test it to see how it works in a couple of weeks when I get the parts
are you doing 6mm belts?
for the 9mm plates i did not have that issue in the drawings
actually my bad, i see those are stancius mounts
Does your magneto work on the front motor mounts?
Yes, the cutter presses against the back of the front left stepper but I also have avoid anything printing in that space so that the cutter's arm doesn't hit the side of the motor. Luckily, it doesn't impact leveling or scanning and the hit area is relatively small.
Also, I don't generally print at the 400, 0 corner. 😅
I heavily modified the mounts, changed the tooling as well to fit better with the metal design, I ordered the laser cut plates to test them, I will share the project after I test it and correct it if needed, in the meantime if someone wants to play around with the design ping me and I will share them with you
@cobalt jasper I saw you did metal AWD so im calling upon you. I am doing 9mm belts and am trying to interpret stancius mod. I have 8mm bore motors, and the BOM calls for: 9mm tall gt2 20 tooth pulley and - GT2 20 tooth motor pulley for 6mm belt. Which ones need a 5mm bore and the others 8mm to match my motors
I have not done AWD
Has anyone gotten away with using aluminum spacers with M3 screws instead of the wonky M3 x 5mm shoulder screws? I’d like to buy in the U.S. and all I’m finding are M3 x 4mm shoulder screws. But, I can get 5mm OD spacers with a 3.1mm ID. Think that would work?
