#sunflower lanyard suggests !

Love that one
Thanks
Your welcome
Very sad so I do understand but from my own perspective who also has experienced that. I personally wore it anyway just because it made me feel seen by the program but also I've even had people come up to me and ask what it was so I could inform them about it. ☺️
My sunflower lanyard saved my life last night
Do you wanna elaborate or rather nor
Happy you're okay and it helped!
^
i eneded up in the hospital because of a black out and it was a long one. My husband said the doctor askedforwhat he was told I was wearin and I was told the guy used to to know my medical history and understood when the back said I am partal not verble when stressed
Is this a good temporary info card?
Ive just made it to have in my pocket for if someone starts asking questioms bc its easier
Its basically the answers to all of my FAQs
Thats cools
Happy disability pride month
It's almost pride for me! 3 hours and 19 minutes left!
Cool
you had to ask someone at the info counter
Is there any stores you can get sunflower lanyards? Or is it just online?
I wear it too school and public transport and stuff, i also wear it out and about sometimes
In airports and in moments where I’d like it to be very obvious that I’m disabled (ie tic attacks in public)
GG @quartz stone, you just advanced to level 9!
Ah, okay, thank you
Some stores offer them for free.
You can see where on the hidden disability sunflower website. You can put in a specific address or a town's name and they show you which places are part of the network. If you click on one specific one some show more information like if they offer free stuff.
Hiii!!! This is for all the people who are insecure about wearing the lanyard on an airport: I just flew, by myself, at age 16, to the states with special assistance and my sunflower lanyard. They were all super nice, gave me space, checked up on me, made sure I didn’t have to wait in line, didn’t ask why I was wearing the lanyard. It was so so so good, I felt so accepted, Amsterdam did absolutely awesome. There were screens displaying the sunflower lanyard everywhere too. So everyone, just wear the lanyard!! It helps!!
School, malls/big stores, airports, public transport, ferry’s, anything with lots of people
I am literally 16 flying for the first time by myself within the states in 9 days and was nervous about wearing the lanyard and accommodations. You have no idea how much this eased my anxiety over this.
That sounds amazing!
Thanks for sharing, I'm glad you had a good trip!
Omg, YOU GOT THIS!!!!!!!! I promise! It was so much easier than I thought. I flew from Europe to America, which is usually kinda dramatic with the security so I was so nervous, but assistance did help, and in the Netherlands they recognized the lanyard very well and they came me extra time for everything.
You got this!!! My dm’s are open if u need any tips for flying alone as a teen with sunflower lanyard! Xx
Omg thank you! I may message closer to the flight.
Okay! X
soo its not a sunflower lanyard, cuz they are not recognized where i live. BUT i just finished sowing a new lanyard for my medical emergency cards. it has little skulls on it and im really happy with how it turned out
this was the old one
and this is the new!! might add buttons to it some time

I saw someone yesterday with the sunflower lanyard on at work where I volunteer
Ooh cool
Thanks
I am so happy right now! I just visited to hidden disability sunflower website and found this new article!
This is who I'm going to be traveling with and now I can get a lanyard right at the start of my trip!
It's also great because then I don't have to feel weird anymore about sitting there with my ear defenders (it can be very loud in the public places on the decks).
This is so great I'm so happy!
This article was published yesterday so it's the most recent it could be, that's so cool
Omgggg I love that sm!!
I got one!!! I'm so happy!
I already put a self made communication card onto it :3
Very very excited for the rest of my holiday now!
I haven't shown it to my parents yet, but maybe once I work up the courage or a situation calls for me to wear it while with them I will
That's amazing that you got one
Heck yeah I need that but still no money for flash cards grr
Thank you! I'm really just so excited about it >~<
Are you able to diy some in the meantime? I opened a communication cards channel in case you wanna hop over there C:
I am gonna buy some cheap ones from school supplies isles and packing tap to laminate just have no idea what that clip ring you put on them that opens and closes is called
I have 19 bucks and 9 of it is free money
I'm so glad you are
A ring like that was already on my cards, it was a study card set of 100, I think there's ones with less too though
I put it on when I had to find a toilet in a shop by myself and had to ask an employee. She was also wearing one and she was so nice to me! I felt much more at ease asking with it on because there's not as much pressure to ask in a "perfect" way
These ones are good and we're only 89 cents
That's good then ^-^
Can't wait to make them when I get home. I will be home soon
Mine are 100 3×5 count
\ two days ago i got a new pin!! and now i'm officially have with me the lanyard in my bag! sunflower and the new pin ("need some space") are on my bag, and the lanyard is kept light and easy to use whatever i feel more tics than usual coming out! (also i got an appointment with the neurologist and he confirmed my tourettes! i was worried of stuff, but this put peace in my mind). so super duper hooray!! /pos
does anyone have tips on shortening a sunflower lanyard?? i’m not very tall, and so when i wear my lanyard with the things i have clipped on, it’s down to my crotch, and can get a little annoying. any tips on shortening it without knotting (it looks a little weird in my opinion)??
You could pin the back of it? So its shorter?
ohhh love that idea tysm
if u can sew a little you might be able to undo the stitching in the back, pull it a little further through the back clip thing and resew that part?
these ideas are lit tysm
I made a new card for my lanyard :)
does anyone know how long it's going to take for a lanyard to ship to the us it's been abt 3 weeks and i still havent gotten mine
contact them
i have a turtle keyring on mine so i always have a comfort plush with me (a tiny one) :P
and loops, a popper fidget, another fidget, my ID cards, pin badges
i also carry a second set of loops/fidgets/keys etc on a carabina
The second set of loops is a good idea, i only have one pair and they arent actually loops, just yknow e ones you wear for swimming? I have those on my lanyard and wear them hnderneath my ear defenders so their stronger but i need to find another pair so i have them with me at all time
I have a tangle on mine
I actually got mine at my sixth form collage. It was the pastoral staff there who made me realise that I wasn’t rude and broken I was autistic and they gave me one for free. I have a tiny fidget on there, as well as my loops. But one thing that I really recommend if you have panic attacks or are a sensory seeker is like a little key chained container. I put things like sour sweets in there. 100% recommend ❤️
I’m Italian and it’s recognised in Italy but when I moved to the uk I saw that it’s much more recognised here than in Sicily
damn, sounds amazing! here (tuscany) it’s not very recognised, they just look at you and sometimes they just “ignore” bc of being annoyed :/
Oh no. Parli italiano?
I moved to England a year ago and I can say it’s very different. I lived in Sicily until I was 3 then moved to England then to Hong Kong at 5 then back to Sicily for a year and a half then to England a year ago. I can say the lanyard is recognised in these places but it’s definitely more like i dont know the word represented? In England.
sisi
it’s surely better known and you can be recognised and represented yeah, looking at some video of disabled ppl i “perceived” it lol /g /p
Vorrei! Grazie mille! Dovremmo iniziare una chiacchierata in italiano! ❤️❤️
scrivimi in dm quando vuoi, sono felice di chiacchierare :3 ✨
Grazie Mille ❤️
A carabina is a great idea! I always get stressed in the summer if i don't have a jacket or pockets in my trousers to keep fidgets, so this would be a smart solution
i have. multiple times and they haven't answered
Thinking about getting a sunflower lanyard even tho i never go out without a disability aid and have visible signs of disability i can’t get rid of i think the card on the end might be helpful if something happens
I have a lot of disabilities so i am unsure on what to put on there
you can buy medical charms on amazon that are just the charm. Not expensice and able to put stuff on front and back. I did that and i have lots of medical issues to
it clips on my sunflower lanyard
I might get pins too
GG @sand folio, you just advanced to level 3!
what the heck
right 😭 i've been checking the mailbox everyday
Pins are good, i got some pins at the pride fair i went to in june that say i have tics, prone to seizures and im neurodivergent, also have pronoun pins 😄
did u email thrm or
You could get one at an airport if an airport near you supports it
I have a few pins on mine that represent my interests and then a card I made that says "I have anxiety and adhd, I am easily overwhelmed"! I thought of putting my loops on there but the case keeps breaking and I hate the sound things make when they bash against the card holder
Ah, cool
I want to put pins on my lanyard but am not sure if it's a good idea since I don't want them to rust when wet
yes 3 times
they don't lol
anyone else’s parents just really confused of what it is? i don’t know how to explain it
it informs others to just be mindful that you may struggle with some things, or be slower or stuff like that. it can help communicate your difficulties without having to say as much
I showed/sent my parents the sunflower website so they can read it for themselves
i finally got it today guys i'm so happy! now i'm just waiting on my loops
if you get stainless steel pins they wont rust right?
Yes
I have one not the "official one" because idk where to get them but I have my loops, my key and a fidget toy sometimes a hair tie
good idea ty
You can iften get them frim malls
Or airports
Cool! I really want to get one!
I don't know if I should get a sunflower lanyard or not because I live in the US and so it's not as well recognized but I'm autistic and also have Pots and eds that causes issues so idk if I should get one or not
i live there and got one
is it useful to have?
saved me when I had a pnes episode and went to the hospital with doctors asking about my issues and how they can use them to help me better
okay, maybe ill get one then
i keep my medical charm on it and was non verbal because of my autism and they asked what my issues were and all I had to do was show them the charm
Oh yeah that sounds super helpful
was a life saver. Now when I have episodes I show them it and no need to speak
I'll definitely buy one so then I can use that strategy
It's up to you I feel most people ignore/don't know. But if you put a medical id/card on it, it would probably help a lot
Here in Germany it's not well know either, but I got one on holiday and will use it for a concert next week.
I feel like even if people don't know it I can keep important information on it and maybe even help making it a bit more known, even if just one person learns about it
yeah not much ppl know abt it here in the US either btw i got my loops todayyy!!!
Oh cool I have the engage one! Wich one did you get
quiet 2
Oh cool I'm thinking of getting the switch ones
niceee
i love loops!
i have them and i work at a hockey arena, they are very much worth the investment! (they were 85$ CAD for me)
Ok:)
I did the same thing :) which concert are you attending?
I'm going to my first "real"/bigger concert in cologne, Girl in Red!
I'm so excited (^-^)/
g a s p
have fun!!
Anybody else need lots of things on their lanyard but it’s a sensory nightmare? Like all the things hitting each other, it’s heavy, etc?
yup, i have so many things on my lanyard
Thank you so much!
I hope we won't get lost 😮
Omg have fun
Thank youu!!!
Have fuun! Is it in the Lanxess Arena?
It’s a fine line between too heavy and just right.
Thank you!
It's in the Palladium
Oh cool. Are you from Cologne too?
Yeaaaa
Nope, me and my best friend will have a bit of a drive via ÖPNV unfortunately, but not too bad
@topaz lichen is it okay if I dm you? C:
Yes totally :)
Me, I made my own sunflowers pins, that I put on all of my bag ! 😊
I love the idea of sunflower patch as well ^^
(also because having a lanyard is not safe for me, regarding my symptoms)
We had such a great time everyone!
I put my sunflower lanyard around my jeans loop thing (where you'd put a belt) and two nice girls we met read the cards attached and checked in to see if the noise was still okay with me and were so nice
Oh thats so cool
Ooo i like that. I ordered 2 more and got them today so I had extra since I use mine so much it wears out
Can someone tell me more about this phenomenon? I’ve heard some of it, but where I’m from it’s not a well known symbole. I therefore know very little of it.
GG @rotund cape, you just advanced to level 2!
The sunflower on a green background is the international symbol of invisible disabilities, and sunflower lanyards are commonly used by those who wish to self-identify with a disability in settings like airports, hospitals, schools, or anywhere else that they might need accommodations. Many disabled people also find power and joy in the symbol, hence its popularity.
Trying something new as I'm always too embarrassed to wear my lanyard
I like that idea and why are you embarrassed. I surprisingly get no one who makes fun of me for it. I did have a neighbor say I like your lanyard and I thanked them and told them what it's for
I love the bag
I don't know if I'm embarrassed or am worried I'll embarrass the people I'm with idk I don't like drawing attention to my vulnerabilities as well as a person with trauma
Thanksssss
Those colors really match!
That's a nice idea too, it's good you have options to try that work better for you
I like your rucksack, it's very cute ^-^
Well I can officially add pnes to a new medical charm for my sunflower lanyard because I just got history of pshycogenic non epileptic seizures put on my record. Woooooo finally a full blown win for me and my journey to get the help i need and the ssi money to help me and my family because of these making it so I can't work along with other issues
I wore my bag and lanyard situation today and didn't worry about it
Yay
thought i’d share my current sunflower lanyard with y’all :)
Hey guys, the Sunflower lanyard is actually requiered to have It with Your disability card?? Or not
Because I saw in the website that you can get like Your Own customized card with It mentioning things you have such a sensitivity to noise and stuff in the case you have autism
But that might be expensive I guess
More than it already is for people from other countrys to have this lanyard
I have the lanyard byt i made my own card befause my lanyard is from an airport
I believe some airports hand it out to you for free
Ye
I got mine from vancouver airport in canada
Its kinda dying tho cause i use it so much
But there is a shopping center near me that gives them out last time i went tho they were all out at the info desk we went too
Oooh my home airport lol I got mine there too
A airport near the hosts parents gives them for free to

Your welcome
From what I've seen they haven't, the site isn't even released yet.
The hidden disability site shows it's already being used in Stockholm
[Reply to:](#1212006420380131338 message) From what I've seen they haven't, the site isn't even released yet.
Oh okay well I hope so. Although Stockholm is more likely as it's the capital.
Yup it is my capital. Glad they started it though it's nice some are doing it
Mine too.
And yeah true, it's something
Yea its definitly getting alot more world wide, where i live 2 years ago it was basically non existant, now i see many people wearing them and (they have them at my local mall) they are basically always out at the mall(i desperatly need a new one i might just buy one at this point)
That's great and so so lovely to hear!

Cool
I got it at my local mall ahdhdhddu
Yay (^-^)/
What’s in the alpine case?
Earl plugs! I wanted to get tho fancy loop ones but my dad said he still had these :DD
It's basically just the Swedish part of the Hidden Disability Sunflower website.
My sunflower lanyard came today in the mail!!
Yayy
That is great
Lanyard, i havent worn it in ages
I keep mine with nothing on it really, I have a set of cards in a holder (which iI usually have seperate) of which say all of my different conditions wth helpful things on the back and an ID. I like having my lanyard folded up in my pocket, so I can put it on if I need, with the holder in my wallet. I am always wearing the wristband though.
I love all the bracelets and buttons you have!
I have a question about a term, is that okay or rather not? /gen
The sunflower wristband?
Where did you get it, did you buy it online?
@cedar linden can i please dm you something about your lanyard /nf
(please ping reply)
Sure
does anyone have a link for a sunflower lanyard so i can get one
Where can i get a sunflower lanyard
go to their website. just google sunflower lanyard and it’ll come up.
[Reply to:](#1212006420380131338 message) Where can i get a sunflower lanyard
yeah, unfortunatly, dyno says no to the official link, i tried posting it earlier
i can post the link (i have perms) i just can’t be bothered- /lh
Yes, it can be bought online
all of the different things
I got my lanyard at dfds (a ferry) this summer on our way to Scotland
I'm not sure how the shipping is to Germany here, but I'm hopeful the sunflower will be implemented in the future here too and enable us to buy sunflower items more easily✊🏻
I got mine from a airport
Some made for disability's that are super similar and still green with sunflowers almost the same looking as the hidden disability site exist. I got 3 of them for 9 plus shipping. A little more if you get it with the hard plastic card holder to
i have my school id (cause i wear my lanyard to school), my service dog id card, loop ear plugs, pulse ox, medical alert card, pronoun pin, and medical alert pin.
I wish the Canadian website had more things
i made my medical alert cards and pins!
Our host put a nice cat house key and a panda charm on theirs and a medical charm and their moms house key on it and wants to find a small fidget to go on it i hear
[Reply to:](#1212006420380131338 message) Ooh good idea
We made our own medical card, have a pom fidget and a popit. We dont typically have pins but have an orca rn :3
card (character is our collective persona, void)
Your card is really cool! I like the design! /pos
Where did you get the handy plastic card holder thing? So far I've laminated important cards but they damage easily, especially around the hole where the metal clip holds them and I think a case like that would be very helpful. /gen
amazon — jst looked up “id badge holder” or wtvr
and ty!
jst make sure to print to the correct measurements!
Ooh cool
Fudge sorry i didnt see the mo pings
its oki i forgot to put in at the front
Thanks!
nice
really easy message
Here's my lanyard! I got some fun pins, a beaded lizard fidget I made and a card I made. I can send a template of the card if anyone wants it😊
That looks great
That looks so cute!
Don't use a sunflower lanyard, but I always have a lanyard on with some social battery badges, feelings badges, my anxiety cards, loops (first pair I brought a year ago which were the quiets; I've since then brought the bundle of all 3 so have the newer versions which I keep in a small pocket in my bag) and two fidgets; simple dimple from my advent calendar and a pea pod. I always end up caring other fidgets in my bag or in my pocket as I end up forgetting my lanyard sometimes, or I end up forgetting my fidgets.
I love your badges
just wondering where is the best place to buy pins for it? i am in the UK if that helps.
I know theres always some cool options online. I got mine from a variety of places but museum gift shops, and places like that with souvenirs always have cool badges and that's where I got some of mine from.
ok i will try to look there when i go on holiday then
hey 👋🏻
i got my pins off etsy, hope this helps 😊
GG @eager stump, you just advanced to level 1!
Thank you
Im not from the Uk but i get all mine from cosplay conventions :))
Some of the pins, i have others too
Does anyone know if you can find sunflower lanyards in any stores in New Zealand or are they only online?
You cojld probably get one at an airport but thats well an airport
Otherwise not sure- maybe look at some big malls or big tourist destinations- like places?
Depends where in New Zealand, some airports can be pretty small if I remember correctly
[Reply to:](#1212006420380131338 message) You cojld probably get one at an airport but thats well an airport
The airport where I live is tiny and the next big airport is at least 3 hours away
Yeah, unfortunately I don’t think it’ll be very feasible to find them in person
There's a map on the sunflower website where you can check which establishemts near you support the sunflower and if they offer lanyards
I didn't know that
where is it on the website????
You can email christchurch airport and they'll send you one for free
this might be a little long…
we’re not diagnosed with anything we are highly suspected to have (from our own research, friends agreeing, parents agreeing, therapist agreeing) because the NHS is being incredibly annoying and there’s a lot of stuff going on otherwise.
we’ve always kinda struggled with speaking for various reasons but occasionally it gets worse, and it’s been worse recently which made us bring it up in therapy.
therapist suggested we get a sunflower lanyard to help other people to know that we might need more time to talk/might not talk at all.
we’ve wanted one for a while so that felt very affirming in a way that she suggested it without any prompting from us. from memory, we never even thought about it for this specifically to be honest.
we know we don’t necessarily need to be diagnosed to have one but it feels weird to not have a diagnosis and use one. because we’re currently just assuming why we can’t speak at times, instead of having a more confirmed reason, but i guess that’s less important to the point.
and we probably wouldn’t just use the lanyard when it’s hard to speak. also to indicate sensory issues, panic attacks and other things - we’d probably have pins with these written on them, but i’m not sure yet haha. it’s only been a couple hours since the idea was presented.
we’re a little scared to be wearing a sunflower lanyard out, so i wrote this essay to ask how do people react when you’re wearing your lanyard? do people actually do anything or do they leave you alone or are the rude about it?
i’m aware people use the lanyard for different things, i’m not even specifically looking for those who use the lanyard for similar reasons we would.
apologies for the essay, i did try to keep it as short and concise as possible! hopefully it makes sense, we can attempt to clarify if needed. :)
gosh that’s long.
For me, I don't live in a country where their widlu known( but their getting alot more known now so that's good) I have pins on mine which list some things, so I have had experiences where people read them, in places which support the lanyard and use the program, I can Def tell as workers notice and stuff, as they are trained on what the lanyard is.
I don't have any diagnoses bar GAD, that is probably changing soon tho
Personally I have never had any bad experiences, bar one lady who I don't think knew what they were but just didn't like how .e and my friends looked,
Generally if people know what they are they dont make a big fuss about it, pins or a card saying your needs are really handy ( I have pins saying important things, as well as a card I made which has more in depth)
Overall, people react pretty OK to it, employees in like shops and stuff if they know what it is don't say anything but personally I can tell they recognise, people if they recognise it, personally I always get excited when I see someone with one, but same thing I've never had a bad experience with someone coming up because of the lanyard
They are a good thing to have, and personally for me it does makes me feel more safe, like if something happens, I have my needs communicated on my lanyard and it is easy to access for anyone who is there
I actually have two lanyards, I'm currently switching over as I am waiting for my old one to die, when I use my new one ( generally around family) I just switch over the pins I want
This is what I have on my card and on the back it says do not call emergency services unless not breathing or Injured and then it says thank you for your time and patience
We want to get our host identity and more permanent medical card but we worry when and if medical information changes that we will have go buy a whole new one
They have one sunflower lanyard medical card holder and its hard plastic. Like that the sunflower medical lanyard we got are like the ones on the site but can be with a hardback slip cover card holder or you can buy them without
we definitely want pins anyways but we’ve never bought any because we’re scared of spending money /neu /nav
i feel like we’ll be fine if we’re with other people but if we’re alone it might be harder.
i don’t know why, it’s just the vibes i’m getting.
The trans coloured bee is so cool!
The text is in German, but I just wanted to show this photo to illustrate what I did:
I bought some plastic card coverings on amazon, they are a lot bigger than the normal ones, which I felt were too small for the text I wanted to but on the cards. I tried laminating cards, but they were to weak at the hang up point and broke easily, so this is my new try. I can make new cards out of paper and I have multiple plastic covers so I can even have multiple cards with me and easily switch them without having to peel them out and put new ones in, which should also prevent breaking of the cards.
Might be an idea?
Me too. I've seen lots of photos here and the pins look really pretty and handy, but I'm still a bit iffy about spending money and about having my vulnerabilities out so publicly
The green text says: "I have an invisible disability"
And the text bellow says: "I react more sensitive to light, sounds/noise, smells & touch. Please offer me more space, time or help of needed."
The place I by my pins from is generally pretty cheap- their always at con's where I live and lots of people by pins from them where I live and people will recognise the pins and be like OMG _____, so it's handy that there is a place where they are fairly cheap near me, but I understand that price is an issue for pins
Ours looks like this. We need a better card and will get one maybe now or later no idea because we need to know the size of our holder to know what card size to get since this one is small but it does have a back with information on it to and lol so awkward to cover up name, phone number and address. Our lanyards are almost identical to the HD site just can be bought with or without card holder, has lines on the lanyard, diffrent place of the sunflowers, word sunflower on it and the bottom part clips on and off but other wise it's made for the same reasons
[Reply to:](#1212006420380131338 message) The text is in German, but I just wanted to show this photo to illustrate what I did:
I bought some … 📎
same. i feel like if we got some then it would just be symptoms and only the ones that are kinda essential to know. like being unable to speak, don’t touch, sensory issues, panic attacks and anything else that i’m currently not thinking of. those are the ones that feel the most important for others to know and we can always take them off and put them on depending on the situation. maybe having one lanyard with the pins and one without might help.. (more a suggestion for us (as a system) than anybody else.)
[Reply to:](#1212006420380131338 message) Me too. I've seen lots of photos here and the pins look really pretty and handy, but I'm still a bit…
i might look into pins tonight/in the morning. we’ve seen a lot we like before but it’s been a while.
also will probably bring up getting a lanyard tomorrow to our mum if we remember. we’ve said it to her before so hopefully it won’t be too surprising?
ok, spent some time looking at pins, but does anybody have any specific recommendations? i’m just looking on etsy so far but i’m find looking elsewhere too.
The place where I buy mine is table salt co but idk if they also sell online
I live in the Republic of Ireland, and sunflower lanyards aren’t well known here. In the UK and Northern Ireland, they are known. I have never gotten into a situation at which I have needed mine to be hugely acknowledged, but in places like airports, conventions or large public gatherings/events, they can be quite useful. If you struggle to speak in certain situations, it might be worth having communication cards or something that indicates this that you can show when you cannot speak or are having a panic attack. I have never had anybody say or do anything to me regarding my lanyard, but I am aware that it can happen. Just be careful and please stand your ground or report discrimination in the event it’s needed.
hii, is the sunflower lanyard a thing in switserland??
I think it depends on where you might need it to come in handy. They are technically used in most EU countries but they may not be regularly recognised in day-to-day situations. In places like airports or large public events, staff are usually trained to recognise a sunflower lanyard and what it means, if you are ever going to a place like this it may be worth checking the places website to see if they have a statement on disability accommodations, that’s where you can find out if a sunflower lanyard is useful, if you are going to an airport it is worth checking if your airport is listed as recognising sunflower lanyard users on the sunflower lanyard official website. As stated, they may not be regularly recognised on a day to day basis, especially in a smaller town or village, but it can be a good idea even to have one in your bag or at home in case it may be useful in a certain situation.
It doesn't really have to be a thing in your country or big in your country. You can still get one if you need it and if people ask about it you can tell them what it's for or maybe you can find places in your area that uses it. Like we have no idea the airport a hour away from our host identity parents home was a airport that recognizes them so any time our host identity visits their parents they can get recognized and get help they need with the lanyard they got off Amazon that is only 2% diffrent then the hidden disability site because of a few details and the card holder being hard plastic and a bottom lanyard clip. But the company who made it made it for a more affordable exatreamly the same reason lanyard
[Reply to:](#1212006420380131338 message) hii, is the sunflower lanyard a thing in switserland??
I put on mine medical id, “when anxious communication difficulties may occur” and i also put fidgets on it!
Thank you, that kinda helped me
I’ll be looking on the websites and such, good idea.
I also actually had zero clue that our airport in the Netherlands had huge signs all over explaining the sunflower lanyard! I was sooo happy. I didn’t buy an ‘official’ lanyard either, just one on Amazon bc otherwise the shipping would be insane.
Just make sure its a green one that is sunflower and says it's for medical use. It is easier to recognize for many then teh rest of the lanyards should what ever you want. Like for.our host their second lanyard is Rick and Morty and their third one is a Tennessee volunteers lanyard for their home state
Do you still have the itching problem?
I just bought a sunflower lanyard and have the same itching problem.
I solved it by turning the lanyard on the other side so that the itchy parts face upwards - away from my neck 🙂
Hm I just read for you the clip is itchy.
For me it‘s the ends of the green fabric next to the clip…
i dont wear it around my neck,, i sometimes clip it to my backpack. so idk. but if i were to wear it it would probably still be itchy
yes i said the clip but tbh it might be the clip and the stitched ends of green fabric
question for people in the us, do you think people recognize and understand the sunflower lanyard at like shops and stuff not just airports?
They don't much but people say nice lanyard and we say thanks and tell them what its for and where you can get it. So that helps spread the word
Also nice name Finn is my nickname my husband gives me
no i dont think so but my friend has one with an info card on it and when they can show that to people it raises the awarness
Finns actually the nickname our host gave me
oh ok i don’t really wanna have to explain to people
Could you perhaps have pins or something with the symboles for autism, adhd etc attached to the lanyard?
thats fair lol
true its just in some other countries you don’t have to make public your condition people just get the idea that you may need more time and accommodations and stuff
i think that wherever you go theres always going to be people who dont know what it is and even then may not accomadate you, and for america it really depends if you live in a progressive state or not /gen
i get that judt in countries where its more well know sitting down because of a disability is an accommodation for me and in other countries that recognize it people know not to bother you
If they see the lanyard
Yesh but America no offense sucks to be disabled in in any way. Hell I know people in more dangerous countries that get treated better as a disabled person of any kind. It's so so sad
no offense took, in the us everything is in expensive and they dont want to help meanwhile in other countries I’ve heard every year or two you get a certain amount to help with stuff referring to your disability such as mobility aids, car modifications for accessibility purposes, service animals i think
Yes of course that isn’t something that must be shared with the public. I just thought that it could be and option since the sunflower lanyard isn’t as widely spread.
Im sorry if that came off as rude I wasn't trying to be/gen
I just like keeping my medical stuff really private especially with people in person like most of my family doesn't know all my conditions and stuff
You’re fine. I get that not everyone is comfortable sharing that information.
yea i need recommendations too especially cause i am starting high school and I’ve heard from some friends some teachers are bitches about “disabilitys” i was so pissed when hearing that, so anywho any recommendations because i do have a lot of stuff on my list (that means my mobility aids like for example my scoliosis, and my hypertension)
Hey try getting a disability lanyard with a real medical card holder. I recommend a medical card in a hard back like me. I have that. Plus I also have medical charms with my name a phone number and disabilitys on it to use on every lanyard we have. Plus we also keeped a signed medical note with is at all times and one copy with the nurse so if teachers were mean we had the right to leave and tell the nurse how we are being treated. That helped us a lot. Plus depending on where you live schools should not be able to do anything bad with mobility aids and stuff to. Also for mobility aids at least for us we are gonna get a special durable water proof card holder that says our name, age, phone number if its lost and then all of our medical issues to so if we are using our mobility aid and forgot our medical lanyards or if our device is lost of if its easier to get to then the lanyard because we cover our chest with our arms in a x when scared to protect ourselves

Plus if you get discriminated by some of the teachers you might be able to get them in trouble

this!! usually teachers are respectful, but if they show any other behavior, report them.
not to sound dramatic, but i had a teacher that didn’t treat the class (especially the girls) well, and we got him fired (as he should!).
it’s always hard with disabilities and high school- i just finished HS and the best thing i learned is to just accept that some people will be bitches about it. they just are- it’s annoying, mean, and disgusting, but you can’t stop it…just find the right people to hang out with who’d rather help you and know how to help you with your disability rather then pull you down.
❤️
Our host identity finished in 2018 and we all in the system were there but not reviled to them yes. We have writings of hearing our host identity for years always beg teachers to give them more special needs help like special needs class they know they need it and they were always put down and made fun of for not knowing how to do adult stuff yet at 19 after our host identity husband of 5 years now came to see them for real he noticed major lv 2 partal non verbal autism signs in them kinda like the autistic kids he worked with in a disabled wood working shop for people on ssi like him and he convinced his now mother in law about what they noticed and how they should get tested and he had been the second in a span of almost 4 full years that mentioned it so she said alright and at 19 our host identity was diagnosed with lv 2 partal non verbal autism. So we have seen it happen and yeah you just have to find the right people your right but can never be to prepared in our eyes

Hey anyone have any advice for telling parents you got a lanyard- I really want to use it this holidays as my family is visiting from another country so we are going to be doing alot of tourist stuff
Maybe if they are unaccepting of disabilities you can just say you got a sunflower lanyard because sunflowers are nice, yknow
Yea, I was like maybe I could just wear it and say it's for easy access for fidgets
I keep my loops (switch) on my keys but use my lanyard as storage for my communication cards/emergency info and an emotions wheel keychain for more communication aid. I also put calm strips on the card cover and used to have pins in a plastic card holder on the front with pronouns etc before just putting them on my battle jacket
I hadn't seen an emotions wheel keychain before, that's a cool idea!
I want one soooo bad. Imma get one before I go to college.
Is it something like this? (I just googled cause I hadn't heard of it before)
Idk but I assume, I also had to image search it
I keep hearing about that. Where can you get that
Hey
I was wondering if you have a sunflower lanyard I was wondering if it would help you get a seat on a train as I find standing up in the train very overwhelming and it might cause a meltdown for me as it can cause anxiety
This probably doesn't make any sense
question, would it be fine if i get a sunflower lanyard if i suspect something like im 99 almost 100% sure?
cause im not sure if i should, i have a sunflower backpack and people tend to listen to that but the lanyard would be so much more convenient for me and my shoulders
I mean ir it will help you then yea
Well I do wear a sunflower lanyard irl
you don't need a specific diagnosis to get a sunflower lanyard. if you struggle with something and feel like the lanyard will help, get it :) /pos
no it does make sense but it depends on where you live.
im in france and the general population don't know about sunflower lanyards. if i wear mine, pretty much nobody's gonna recognize it. /neu
What about in Ireland
I am on a train every Friday and I am left standing for an hour
Yoy might have to go to reddit or something for that one
Can I see some of your lanyards?? I wanted to see how people decorate them cause I’m going to decorate mine
GG @slim pilot, you just advanced to level 8!
I am still looking for pins for mine that ware water proof and won't rust, also managed to get my loops to fit in that case for my other ear plugs since my loop case is fine and usable but the strap it has is broke

I like using teh spike balls on the rainbow Keychain as a fidget
I like using the spike balls on the rainbow Keychain as a fidget and this is one of 3 lanyards we have because we grabbed them before they ran out like now. So when I have to replace all 3 I will maybe need to go to the hidden disabilities site. Though that isn't bad. I just like one of the 3 I have for this kind of sunflower medical lanyard came with a card holder I just don't have a accurate card to use in it yet
[Reply to:](#1212006420380131338 message) I like using teh spike balls on the rainbow Keychain as a fidget
i’ve seen lots of stuff about “fake sunflower lanyard” and “this is the real one this is the fake one”
is there a specific one to get or something? because i bought mine cheap online and it’s worked until now, but i’m unsure if i need to get an official one? i’m honestly confused
GG @spark gazelle, you just advanced to level 25!
I was told not really as long as it looks like the hidden disability one. Mine that says sunflower that looks very similar color design and all was literly made as a disability lanyard just like the hidden disabilities site ones
Yea one of my friends has a non official one, and the green is just a darker green and the sunflowers are bigger, but they are also made and from a hidden disability website(I've seen ads)
These are my lanyards from a while ago(they've changed a bit since then but still similar)
Love yours and yeah, mine was made for a website too. But I've been trying to find copies of it. I can only find It on German Amazon because it was an Amazon storm. But maybe if I find the actual site I can get more in the future, otherwise I'm just going to go to hidden disability, but they're pretty much the same thing. They just said on their description, they wanted to make it for people who needed something a little more affordable, because hidden disability doesn't I go to every country? And what I like about ours is you can get a second version that doesn't come with a plastic like a flimsy plastic card holder, it comes with A Actual hard plastic card cover that slides on the back. When you put your card in and it's got a plastic film over the tops. You can see and eclipse, you can clip off the um, uh, card holder and stuff

yess that’s what i was thinking, tysm for clearing it up!!
thank youuu for helping!
Your welcome

Hey guys can I get a lanyard for fnd and tourrettes
Sunflower lanyards are for hidden disabilities
So yes
I finally got mine!
I wanting get it online but it’s taken a bit longer than I thought it would to get my stuff sorted so I went to the shops and got just the lanyard and I think that’ll work so I might just get a card some other way or get pins
Imo if you’re in the uk or another place that does in-store ones there’s no point in getting a non-official because the official ones are free any ways
But if they look about the same it doesn’t matter much
Also, how do people get the cool pins, I want some
You can get them online, etsy has a lot
I’ve never bought anything off Etsy before so I’m a bit nervous on that tbh
I got most of mine at comic cons but if you never go to those maybe some queer-friendly bookshops might have them?
Ok, so I'm going to England and Canada in abt four weeks, its the first time I've been on a plane since I've gotten my sunflower lanyard and I feel like it would really benefit me wearing it (at the same time it feels like I dont actually need it and just faking but that's not the point)
Anyway i need to tell my mother tbay the sunflower lanyard is actually a hidden disability lanyards and i dont know how, does anyone have any suggestions?
You can tell her it’s a medical lanyard if you have diagnosed conditions she knows about, you don’t need to explain every detail
You can also tell her its to signal to staff that you may need some extra time (which its also for).
I’ve been accumulating other stuff to put on it until I can get the pins
I’ve got a card with my info on it and a little crochet keychain
Yea thats true,thanks
I get most of my pins from conventions, specifically this one store that goes to alot near me called tablesalt co, im not sure if their online, but i do know its run by a uni student so I dont think they'd be going to any conventions or anything outside of Australia let alone my state unfortunately
But at conventions there are always heaps of pin sellers
Decided to put my pins in got over the years from prides on my lanyard
Cool
I can finally get some and am not too anxious to go three feet from Etsy anymore. Suggestions?
( as in on which ones to get )
I wear a sunflower lanyard and it has my bus pass, rail card, and a fidget ring (and there's a card with sunflowers/corner with logo of 'fnd action', other side should have details in case of emergency buzzer it haven't filled it out)
ive got a question for sunflower lanyards is a blue sunflower lanyard recognised the same as the green sunflower lanyard?
No, a blue sunflower lanyard is not universally recognized as a disability lanyard in the same way as the official green one but could be used as your own custom lanyard with medical charms, buttons licenses excetra on it if ya want
it is just the green
you are best off just getting an official lanyard or one that looks about the same but alterations cause confusion
Yeah I thought so is well its just that I've lost the green one and have no clue where I put it and the only somewhat one I have is two blue ones that my old school gave me but thank you sm
I think I that case you could certainly try to use the blue ones as a temporary replacement until you get the chance to get a new green one (or find the old one) . It might be better than not having a lanyard at all. And depending on the situation you could explain that it's just a temporary replacement because you lost the green lanyard.
Any tips for getting my mum more comfortable with the idea of me getting a sunflower lanyard? She kind of thinks thats ‘playing up’ my autism and social anxiety but it would really help me in public so idk what to do
Personally I wrote a whole like message and sent it too my mum, it was mostly about my anxiety and how it would help me(mine was specifically for a trip im going on) and i talked about crowds, new places and people and stuff like that and how wearing the lanyard would make me feel safer and calmer because I know that if I need help people would be more understanding
I know it sounds really bad but basically I just said "I need it". She looked at me weirdly but because we were in public (there was a box of them and it was a donation type thing) and I just looked her in the eyes and said "anxiety?". She put the money in the box for me and yay I got it. When we got in the car she asked about drawing attention and I just told her that sunflower lanyards are to help people understand that the individual may be struggling.
I know that this was a super rude way to go about it, but I managed to get my point across at least
(Edit: I no longer only have the 'hidden diagnosis', there's also autism (which my mum doesnt approve of, but that's another matter), POTS, and FND, so the lanyard i have found helps get me a seat on public transport and helps when I stutter in when talking to people)
Good job doing it in person, ans good job doing it full stop, jts hard to
i know this is literally a message from a whole year ago but i just saw this and was like omg same name omg slay ✨
YO HELLO! SLAAYYY same name!!! also, may i say? your profile is sick, i love it!! and you're an artist too, also content creator?? dudeeee /very pos
WE HAVE THE SAME PRONOUNS TOO HELPPP /pos
also tysm!!! i am indeed an artist and content creator :3 im mostly focusing on art rn and taking a long hiatus from streaming n such rn but ya :D
i drew da art on my profile
NO WAYYY /pos
WOOAHH, it's very pretttyyy
TYY
:D
hey, i have a sunflower lamyard with a guava card- guava is an illness/symptom tracker app with space for medical history and lots of other stuff, so my card has a QR code that links to my profile and can tell people my conditions and allergies in an emergency ive found it really helpful
What do people put on their card things that goes on the lanyard? I can’t remember their proper name
Because the lanyard indicates the presence of an invisible disability and not specifics?
I like to keep my specifics vague and a little comedic so I use light-hearted and more general pins instead of a card but it’s the same idea
I have my name, emergency contact and stuff about health, what i might experiance mainly
I have just a card that says "I have tourettes syndrome" on one side and the other side explains what tourettes means. I also have my personal info hidden behind those cards in a cardholder and the people who are with me daily know that my personal info is there
They're really cool
That is smart I want to do that for my hard plastic medical card holder but idk where to begin
Hey, I’m sorry idk where else to put this question!
So ever since Covid when it was used as a “no face mask” thing even tho it never was!!, I feel like in my opinion people don’t respect sunflower lanyards as much anymore. I was wondering if there is anything else I could do to discreetly say about my invisible disability, or is it just sunflower lanyards? I’m in UK if that helps with anything lol
Thank you guys for reading even if you don’t respond!!! 💜
They have bracelets and pins as well if you don’t want a lanyard, or you can just not use the hidden disability stuff all together and find another company that makes similar stuff.
You could possibly get a medical alert bracelet or necklace?
Hey, I would love to know more about the MYID keychain if that’s possible? 😊
My id part came like this i just need a real medical id to go in it. Its sideways to hide some info since this is a old temp card that came with my medical charms but was way to small
These are suggestions from what I have on. I have mental charms, pronouns, sayings, a homemade fidget, a medical charm, house key, fun new red panda, panda charm as well
I got it off Amazon! You download the app that goes to it and put in health info, whatever you’re comfortable sharing (you don’t have to share all of it)! And it’s a phone tap keychain. Anyone can tap it, and when they do, it shows the information you chose to give out through the app! It’s so nice to have!
I don't like things around my neck, so I went to the hdsunflower website & bought some sunflower badges & wristbands.
Anytime I wear a jacket or hoodie, I'll wear the badge. Every other time, I'll wear the wristband. I find it super effective.
I find it a good silent way of showing solidarity & support to fellow NDs in my vicinity.
I didnt know they also have badges! Thats good to know as I also dont like wearing lanyards around my neck. So if I ever decide to get one if I have to travel somewhere I know I can get a badge.
i also dont like wearing the lanyard around my neck LOL
GG @upbeat gate, you just advanced to level 47!
its always clipped to my bag :)
samee i use it as a bag charm and i kind of want to get a second one and make it into a decoration thing for my cane
Sounds good!!! Thank you 😊
I want to try to make a medical ID card for myself, does anyone have suggestions/advice? Preferably low energy but still looking descent
i make mine on canva :)
Does it have a free version?
yes!!! of course it does
ive only ever used the free version
I'll download it and try! Thank you!!
im remaking my cards rn but they arent really medical ID, more communication cards since i get verbal shutdowns (like "im autistic i struggle with sensory stuff and communication, dont stare...")
i can send a pic when im done
I generally avoid any apps that mention AI, but I'm desperate for cards so I'll try to drown out my anger at AI screaming
yeah ive been using canva for several years (before AI took over as much) ive heard they included AI features but i dont use them.
thank you for pointing it out though /gen
i'll pay more attention and try to find an alternative app! (i also avoid AI)
I also get verbal shutdowns, I usually write on paper or a device, sometimes I use an app called Spoken for text to talk AAC! Right now I'm planning on making cards that give medical ID, but not like contact information, just telling people not to panic
yeah!!!
sometimes i get full shutdowns where i cant speak but i also cant think and i cant find words. so having pre-written cards is a must
If it's a good app and it's avoidable to use the AI features it may not be that bad, but they had me tell them wheter to use my data to improve AI, and although it's kind to ask I'm worried they won't listen o_o But I totally get using it if you've already been using it. And I might use it now and delete my account later
That makes sense! Part of what i liked with Spoken was that I could save phrases, but I lost the feature (I think due to expired free trial)
Which one do you generally use?
i look up "card size" on google and use custom size LMAO
i like mine card shaped
like
🪪
mmm card shape
I tried, it flipped my card -_-
this isn't going well lol
I might try LibreOffice document first, it's totally the wrong equpment but I do know how to use it😭
I looked the app up and it sounds really interesting and kinda cool
But since it's basically an algorithm learning from your input to speek more like you, I'd be kinda worried about data safety and I didn't immediately find anything on their website about privacy protection or how they use data (not saying it's bad just something to keep in mind and also kind of a question bc I'd be interested if someone had some info on how that works or if they know anything about data privacy in regards to the app)
That's maybe more a topic for the AAC channel tho
You raise very valid concerns!! I use it very rarely as I often just either talk or write, so I don't think they would get a lot of information about me as a person directly from my app usage. Also the algorithm learning is limited to the paid version. This is not to say they don't also store data for themselves regardless. I have not looked much into that. There are plenty of AAC apps out there and many other might be better and/or safer. Another drawback with Spoken is that it's only available in English
