you need to rest for a while after being spent and can choose to get better sooner at costs. you'd start overworld fights with the current SP you have instead of it being modified for the battle. even more management for the social sim aspect. and of course, you get to the metaverse with your current SP too(but maybe you get a baseline 'heal' when doing metaverse stuff like mementos or palaces because metaverse enhances your abilities, so its not too big a battle of artrittion while having friction still)

idk i have to cook this up more. but atm this seems to be very close to what i idealized for this mod

an issue would be a good way to show your sp going down in a way that makes it clear that 'spending all day playing videogames just cost me 10, and hanging out with ryuji who made me run around all day just cost me 50', inluding a good way to show the passive healing after waking up or doing something calming (like reading a book). i think my only way would be using the big messages that appear in the center of the screen? a bit obstructive but better than your sp going haywire in the background without you knowing what is happening

i'd also need the party members to have their own agency and spend/restore sp differently, only being able to 'control' them by hanging out with them, because then they are doing something with you instead of following the normal routine

ryuji would probably be burning himself off often, while haru and makoto would be way more disciplined, but if i implement the 'calling card' days to be all fixed like shido's, i could have so that deciding to send the calling card will put everyone in a more 'conservative' mode where they'll mostly rest until the day close to the deadline to act

gosh i always wanted to implement the og p3's individuality but using the current party tactics option would not be viable at all. this tho? im really fucking with the idea

before my idea was more 'in some days someone will be unable to attend, so only mementos and no palace these days, without that party member present', and while i can still have it for the realism, i can keep that more unpredictable variable only happen a few times to not be too annoying, while with the sp management you can even just feed them drugs to recover it

this also combats combat-based sp-regeneration, since sure you can just invigorate/spirit leech against random mobs in mementos, but thats out of your control outside of it

there is the palace ruler alert stuff that could be somewhat 'easily' editable with ghidra, where i can create a version that references your SP, but thats so beyond scope and i have a lot more to do

i am gonna be honest that im not immune to ignorance and truly no one is. because to be immune to ignorance, you have to be born knowing everything, the difference is if, after presented with the issue, you double down, ignore, or understand

i think tho there could be a good distinction made from the place someone is coming from when they are a dickass, never to justify, but to understand how they did get there. like someone that has to deal with public support as job, then coming back home after 8 hours dealing with aholes, many will end up exploding on innocent people like their kids(yes this is about mum). its wrong, but chances are that they arent being purposefully evil, and if you fix this issue in their lives, things do become much better for everyone(my mom is still inherently a stressed out person because of mental illness--i took it from someone after all lmao--, but she's WAY better now that she's no longer working)
similarly, a lot of gay people cant exactly take their anger out in the broader culture that puts them down and forces them to conform and fuck people they dont want to fuck, because this shittyness is a culture, not one person who has feelings, so talking down on straight people is easier and cathartic, because, well, you are socially punching up(but bullying a specific innocent straight person is punching down regardless of whatever 'social power' they may have. just dont be an asshole, its simple)
predictably, some gay people will end up conflating bis and straights because of the inherent surface-level overlap, because they are ignorant of the more unique struggles bi people face(that these same ignorant people end up contributing to), and this i believe is usually from someone badly redirecting their anger just like the previous example.
just like yelling at your kid from the accumulated stress from terrible working conditions isnt okay, being an ass to bis and straights because of the accumulated opression from society isn't okay either.

fyi i think this is rather important for my vision of the mod itself. i want to elaborate on the palace rulers and humanize them more, primarily from the unused will seed flashbacks

i think its important to acknowledge that most people can end up doing 'bad' things, i want to show palace rulers not as the cause of corruption, but as the perfect 'victims' of a system that corrupts people. i think this is more inline with the truth, and p5 even acknowledges this multiple times, but i want to lean harder on the uncomfortable idea that no one is immune from distortion

a great example of p5 acknowledging this besides mementos being literally responsible for forming the palaces in the first place, is when we deal with shido. he's the big bad politician that is everythign thats wrong with society, but defeating him ends up, like with other palace rulers, just being like cutting the head of a hydra, there are more, and as long as the hydra is there, more heads will grow to occupy its place. when people can no longer follow shido as their leader, they just pick the next thing that brings them comfort, yaldy. mementos is the system that grows the hydra heads. the journey is downwards to find the literal core of the system to confront it

one interesting thing tho, is that there are a lot of empty slots for arcanas. there's a huge jump in faith's id from judgement for example

i have dabbled a bit on it before but never fully finished it, but it should be theoretically possible for me to add new social links as a way to introduce some p5x chars i think have potential. the thing is tho that there are a lot of stuff that i have to get working. like fusion tables, how do they do the arcana formula? can i edit easily or do i need to use ghidra and find it? there's also a bunch of other small things that compound. plus a lot of these extra arcana slots just being used for 'romantic verion' of the female confidants in the first place, so do they even work properly as standalone arcanas? etc

i am worried that i end up making slinks too grindy because of my heavy focus on time gating slinks for them to have realistic timeframes(so no shiho healing in like a month lmao). the game does a bit of that like with ryuji planning to get dirt on the new sub teacher, and you have to accept his invite or miss the chance and have to wait again(obviously im not making everything like that, that'd be obnoxious. im saying that i want slinks to be more time-aware and realistic). adding new slinks kind of allows me to have similar amounts of grinding, but it diverts attention from a single task and divides into multiple, which gives less of a perception of 'grinding'. so if i can i will try and see if i can implement new slinks since it does benefit the game part im going for (the new yuri is a bonus 🤤 )

i'll be doing this idea on the p3p protags tho (malemc -> transfem, femalemc -> transmasc). part of the reason i decided to go for 'she's cis, just very butch, and yes she's flat not using a binder' here in TYT is mainly because i want my writing to be somewhat realistic when it comes to serious topics(teenager lesbian polycules are totally realistic wdym), and if you think im already going heavy with Rei's treatment, her being transfem would be a whole other level in the context of the story, and im not sure im as comfortable writing about constant transphobia as i am with lesbophobia(i mean, Rei despite being cis still often is a target of transphobic comments obviously--transphobia affects everyone, even cis men--and i do write them, but its not focused on it, because she's legally a cis girl and there isnt as much of a debate over that in universe. idk it just feels like it'd be too much for me personally)

i also think the p3p format is perfect for this since its inherently focused on gender by its nature, and subversions of the male and female experiences, so its like, perfect for the trans theming. plus p3's focus on the death arcana, which symbolizes the end of a cycle for a new one, is just 👌 . its a great representation of 'accepting death' and celebrating life at the same time, since the transformation is the killing of your false self and birth of your real one. the first 12 arcanas before death are just the first half. i really like how it ties so well here

i do think that the plot is actually rather interesting when not oversimplified, but that requires following so many theory chains and there's few games with full narratives

i think that 3, if you follow the steps for the true ending which are hidden so not someone's first playthrough-worthy, has a rather well told minimalist story that i think is quite emotional and bittersweet honestly. the music choice def helped there

4 has the better story so far, specially since its told through the main game. just ignore some bullshit added in canon that makes 4 absolutely nonsensical, its not in the game but rather added after

sister location is funny and an interesting plot, but its also pretty... bleh. its best part was stuff added after release that clarified the story better and they were told by beating custom nights... yeah scott was always awful at telling a story

the better one storywise is pizza sim, specially if you do the arcades because they help recontextualize a lot. the gameplay by itself is boring but there's some game design gems buried there imo, mainly revolving around the salvaging and ads mechanic

She was just basically introduced as 'the girl your new buddy crushes on' who is then fridged to give him motivation to drag everyone along to solve the thing, but how often yosuke refers back on saki between her death and the killer reveal???

Not asking for him to be a sad dog all the time pissing and crinen over her, but he doesnt seem all that affected?

Like, it does make sense if she wasn't really close to him and it was more of a teenager crush tho

But i wish we couldve had more of a reason to care for her despite yosuke saying he cares for her

P5 did this well imo

We get one interaction with shiho, and that interaction alone makes shiho feel SO much more important for us. Even while she's going through a hell of her own, she worries over us and the bad rumors, because she sees the same with Ann and implies as such, the player makes the connection. She is very important to ann, and by extension shes one of the few good people in this hellish school that cares about you despite barely knowing you

This makes the shiho situation feel SO tragic for the player. Saki's death is out of left field and you are dragged by yosuke saying he cares, shiho's violation makes everyone so, so pissed. Ryuji deeply cares about Ann, so he cares about Shiho, we care about both, and Ann cares about Shiho, it is SO much more personal

Flamethrower is around 80-90 depending on the game fore ref, 100% accurate

Fire blast is 120 damage, 85 acc, and the damage diff in pokemon's formula makes it worth it the inconsistency

(i use acc here because PP doesnt matter. Pokemon's sp management system is ass)

Oh yeah that too. I love party member traits because even if they get to barely do anything thanks to the enemies' resists, at least they benefit everyone

But its another part that makes the game even more brainless sadly. Enemies again not adjusted for them

I honestly think enemies not having traits is fine, maybe for major enemies/bosses they should've

the game just was not balanced around those traits (ex: enemies could be dealing more damage or being tankier)

The standard im going for for enemy bulkyness is like, 3 well used baton pass chains on average

Its kinda hard to balance around such a ridiculously wide variable like baton pass. Press turn or simple 1 more are easier

Baton pass is really fun tho, and has a LOT of strategic depth, its just not in the right game for it

Any mechanic that allows manipulation of turn order will not only be really strong, but increase the depth of the systems a lot

I love pq2's spotlight for this for example

Pokemon does well since the first game without fancy gimmicks. Attacks with priority are always so good because of the turn order manipulation, then there was trick room which made a whole archetype of slow sweepers, then there are nicher stuff like quash that... Exist, but they tried

I played dq11 and the battle system was very... Boring, until the gay guy got the skill 'ladies first', and just being able to give his turn to another female party member made the game SO much more fun and requiring of a neuron
