#Persona 5 Royal when Launching on Steam crashes immediately after 3 secs during the loading screen

try verifying game files or uninstalling/reinstalling
if unmodded does it then those are really the only options
Alright I'll try
since I've been trying those for many times yet it won't work but thank you for the advice (I'll give an update later whether or not it works or its still crashing)
Verifying game files are still all the same and keeps saying its alright, I'll try to keep uninstalling/reinstalling for a lot of times like 10 times and I'll give an update whether or not it fixes the crashing
Did you install any non releoaded mods at any point? Probably zmenu if anything
Nope
Alright, I thinik I've seen that happen once or twice.
Good to know thank you as well even though I never installed any non reloaded mods, however im still reinstalling it rn and it takes a while to reinstall
Well if it still fails could you check in %APPDATA%\SEGA\P5R\Steam\xxxxxxx\db\reports and see if there are crash dump files (.dmp extension) created when you launch the game. If there are send one and I'll see if it tells me anything useful.
Alright got it, I'll just wait for the reinstall before that , thanks
Still crashing
I'll check in on what you told me
Yeah I found a dmp file just one though with a 2,753 KB
@midnight patrol sorry for the ping
I still keep getting crashes
I'll just wait for your response and I know everyone has a personal life, so take your time
Just update and ping me if you find anything useful and I'll respond if I'm not asleep or busy with personal life and such
k, I'm having a look now. I'll let you know what I can work out if anything
Ok thank you, sorry for being a pain
I don't even know which app to use to access those dmp files
It's all good
Seems it's a gpu issue. Not something I've dealt with before and obviously not related to modding stuff so you should probably just look up and do the general troubleshooting stuff for this kind of error.
Updating graphics card drivers, uninstalling them and reinstalling, that sort of stuff
If you just search up nvwgf2umx.dll online there's a bunch of stuff, hopefully something that someone else has tried applies to you
Alright thank you!
Good luck
Should I just put the post as solved? Even though I haven't solved it yet, and I'm trying to do what you told me rn
You can leave it ig, up to you. If you do work out a solution you could share it here then mark as solved. If you don't want to then we can close it now.
Idk if you'll actually get any more help in here since it's not a mod problem
Alright good to know, I'll leave it as not solved for now and make it solved when I actually solve it, and share on how I solve it
and the graphic card drivers is definetly related to NVIDIA for me
I solved it
Here is how i did it (I did it by uninstalling and reinstalling once)
- Search Device Manager
- Click on Display Adapters
- Click on the Graphics Card Driver
- Uninstall the Device and click/tick the box of deleting the driver software for this device
- Search for Windows Update
- Click on Check for Updates
- It will install the Driver Software
- If it fails downloading, Click on Check for Updates and it will download it again
- If It downloads successfully, you will finally be able to play P5R without any crashes yippeee!!!

Do Note: my GCD is NVIDIA, do these steps as a last resort if no other solution works
Thank you very much again, but Im curious what app did you use to find the problem in the dmp files? So I could solve the dmp files myself without wasting anyone's time
I used Visual Studio to open it although there are other options, I haven't really used anything else though (I just know that they do exist). It's probably overkill if you just want to inspect crashdumps
I think WinDbg might be more appropriate. I should really try it myself
https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hardware/drivers/debugger/crash-dump-files
If you just search you'll probably find other programs that work as well
Just tried and yeah, WinDbg seems just fine.
