I just reinstalled P4G on a new OS install with my save backed up. However, it's not appearing in the load game screen. I tried the trick listed on the P4G save archive and it's not doing me any good either. Could someone please lend me a hand?

the save file directory for p4golden on windows is: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\471201285\1113000\remote

ok, cool. yeah so the way saves work is that you typically can't copy paste them over and just have them show up

if you previously had saves on P4G Steam then they should sync and load but if you didn't (i.e. you're loading saves from a save archive) you need to do the following

  1. note down the player name and possibly the save difficulty
  2. make a new save in the desired save slot with the same name and difficulty
  3. open the load save menu and select the save you want to load, but do not load it yet
  4. go to your save folder and replace the save you just created with your desired save you already have
  5. go back to the game and load your save

Tried this, it's still showed as no data. I remember setting it to a custom difficulty so it's a matter of remembering what said difficulty was

Out of curiosity, is there a way to find out if you can't remember, like with a hex editor or something?

It might have something for difficulty, you can ignore everything else

I know I had the more XP on and I think I modded it from normal difficulty

I have zero idea how that ended up being the case, but after syncing it with the Steam cloud and downloading the data from it, it shows up as no data (and dates back to June, when I bought P4G)

What happened was I bought the game, made the save data, and at some point turned off the cloud sync for whatever reason
My save went poof basically

I did look at it in the save tool and there is some data there

nothing really more than set name tho, i assume? no s-links, personas/items, anything like that?

nothing I can't recreate. just a hell of a lot of lost time (saved just before the true final boss)

I've played through the game four times in full, I can do it again.

Anyway at least for now, I'll mark this as solved
