Reloaded recently updated to use dotnet 7 so maybe that guide doesn't account for that

north finch
#

...ugh

#

I can't get the DotNet 7 installer to run through ProtonTricks

😦
Tbh I don't really know anything about modding on steam deck or using ProtonTricks

#

In summation, Linux is far more of a pain in the arse than it's worth and I'm starting to regret buying a Steam Deck

Maybe you could try installing an older Reloaded version from before it switched to .net 7 since I don't really have any idea how you could get it installed
This is the version just before the switch

Ah, I've got it working now, but it's just repeatedly crashing (more than the 5 "regular" times for Proton)

@lethal igloo Sorry to bother you - I saw on the subreddit this was something you were well-versed in; don't suppose you might have any idea what would keep causing the crashes?

Instructions:

  1. Use Flatseal to grant permissions for Protontricks to access "All user files" and /run/media
    (https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/1026975850316447856/1028129429622378517/unknown.png)

  2. Extract Reloaded-II somewhere that is easily accessible to you. I prefer ~/Games/Mods/P5G Mods/, but you can put it anywhere you'd like.

  3. Run each of the dependency .exe files with Protontricks Launcher. You may need to right click on the .exes to select "Open With."

3a. You will need to select the Persona 5 Royal prefix each time you run Protontricks Launcher so that the dependencies get installed into the game's prefix folder.

  1. You can now run Reloaded-II.exe the same way after the dependencies are installed.

4a. Reloaded-II will complain if you haven't installed all of the dependencies needed to run the mods, so go back in case you're told to download anything else.

  1. Add WINEDLLOVERRIDES="dinput8=n,b" %command% to P5R's launch options in Steam.

(Follow rest of the Linux guide, including the ASI loader stuff)

go to that post and look at how I set up R2

north finch
#

@opaque galleon This is what I did but it sadly doesn't work

#

R2 runs with no issues at all now, but when launching P4G it opens up the console/command line, all runs okay, briefly opens the game, then the game immediately closes

#

I know this is expected for the first 5 or so runs, but even after 30 attempts it still doesn't open

north finch
#

Now I'm constantly getting the error that the Reloaded DLL isn't found, even though it's 100% there

#

@young siren @midnight radish Did you ever manage to fix that issue?

#

If not that then it's complaining about not being able to find a configuration for the currently executing application

#

Now it's back to running, but as soon as the game opens it closes again

#

Are there any guides that actually work or are they all hacked together in a "hope for the best" way?

#

It ran once, got to the title screen, and now it's back to opening then closing instantly 🙃

opaque galleon
#

How many mods are you using? You may need to scale back on some.

north finch
opaque galleon
#

Are you getting the nondescript “application has crashed” error?

#

That’s the game crashing under the weight of mods

#

I was more likely to crash using Delicate Music Tweaks

#

I also disabled the title bar fix because it’s useless

north finch
opaque galleon
#

Are you seeing the R2 screen first?

north finch
#

It then briefly opens the game, and then closes

north finch
midnight radish
#

Do you have the game installed to the onboard storage? Or SD card?

north finch
#

I tried both, ran into the same issue on both

midnight radish
#

Hmm. Wish I was more well versed in all this. I just followed the guide, noted any changes I made, and got it working. Sorry I can't help further than that.

opaque galleon
#

In reloaded, what did you set as the folder path to P4G.exe?

north finch
#

I've actually given up on SteamOS now and overwritten it with Windows; everything has worked out of the box so far

opaque galleon
#

I remember you now. have fun with that

north finch
opaque galleon
#

Yep. You want to use Windows? cool, I'm not going to stop you, but I'm not going to be helping you further given that you already wasted time for everyone you pinged.

north finch
opaque galleon
#

I've seen the stuff you said on the Steam Deck discord a month or so ago.

north finch
#

Ah, I see

#

I'm not sure how I "wasted time" for "everyone" I pinged; I'm happy to use SteamOS if it works, but historically it doesn't for 99% of situations

opaque galleon
#

and your historical number is incorrect. I finished P4G on the Deck as well

north finch
#

And P4G runs on the Deck

#

P4G with mods in my experience doesn't

opaque galleon
#

and as you can see, you tagged 4 different people who did. 2 of which attempted to help

north finch
#

I tried pretty much every possible permutation of paths; and the best I could get was it launching one time out of every 30

#

Ok, and?

opaque galleon
#

but if you are going to not answer configuration questions, it's kinda pointless

north finch
#

Me pinging them isn't wasting their time

#

Honestly, you just seem to have a bee in your bonnet

#

Path-wise, it was fine; it dropped the dll and asi with no issues

opaque galleon
north finch
#

Okay, well I'm sorry I didn't answer the question to your satisfaction. Maybe you should have said that rather than throwing a tantrum

opaque galleon
#

you answered the question by saying you installed Windows, so yeah.

#

I'm going to be unfollowing this thread now. you already gave up, so it's pointless to continue
