#Shape Glyphs Suggestion

After Watching Witch Hat Atelier, I would like to see if we can use Glyphs to create shapes, or creatures to make it more mystical. Using Form Glyphs which defines the shape of the spell followed by element and then any of glyphs you want. It's mainly aesthetic to make the Mod feel more magical. That way its attack spells don't just feel projectile based.

I feel like being able to summon a bird of light or water. a spell that falls and turns into a flower as it explodes.

I feel like it would allow for more freedom in what spells you create and the use case for them.

And burst/wall/linger do shape stuff decently well

If I recall

Aka if I remember right

ive experimented with the spell style and these but nothing fits that whimsical idea that im talking about you know. e.g. Homing (Shape glyph i suggested like a bird) Accelerate, then burst and nullify damage and harm. all im trying to do suggest is different types of shape glyphs for aesthitcs. maybe you can use the shape glyphs also with things like burst, linger and wall for say birds or swords of magic that can be altered with the spell style you know. its not much about changing the affects of the spell but just the customisation of your own spell to make them your own

basically what i mean, you know under the spell style tab you can change the particles that are created on certain glyphs, i think itd be cool if in tandem with it you had certain shape glyphs that actually allow the spell to take on that shape. so instead of shooting out a normal projectile, it would be a particle shape of a bird or dragon or swords.

Basically in the anime i mentioned above, there is this spell circle. the center sigil inside the hexagon is the dragon sigil which allows the spell to have a defined shape. im obviously not asking to make something as large or detailed as this im just using it as an example of shape to the specific spell. i would break each part of the spell down but its long lol. in short each of those symbols allow for the creation of the shape, type of element and where the material is dervived from along with direction. so my suggestion is a glyph of shape for particles, not obviously on this scale unless its possible but thats up to the devs lol

fyi that is just water plus a shape glyph in a dumbed down sense

I love the idea, but I doubt it's compatible with this mod

#

As a whole, I love the idea of circle/rune casting.
Like having to paint your magic symbols in neat packages, encoding in it the spell and what it does

Oh yeah

#

Still I find runes interesting, but don't get how they work in Witch Hat Atelier

there's a custom wiki which explains most of em

#

spoilers though if you haven't read the manga

alright

I'd love having a few more projectile shapes for spell styling; I'd be willing to toss out a few bbmodels if I knew where to toss em 😅

if i remember correctly how easy it is to code them in, if you drop them here i could try to show how they would look ingame with a decent timing

I'm not entirely sure which particular format you'd need to get these in, this is a fairly quick (untextured) mockup of a draconic lil guy in the Generic Model blockbench format; let me know if it should be a different one lmao

the endless curse of rotations 😔
That does look really neat though 👀

hmm some more questions about the technical side of that actually

  • so which side is the front? It's not North lol, but is it east or west?
  • Can these models have animations, or is there nothing handling that quite yet?
  • Is this something I'd be able to poke around with myself without much modding knowledge? 😅

I think there's a way to add an animation to it

#

Rotate 90 degrees (positive) and you should be fine

spell resolving aught to be different particle shapes, methinks, but agreed, it'd be sick as hell to have a spell land on a block and grow a quick flower

Yeah!

the things that are feasible with the current system, aside adding models, would be mainly:

  • bundling a single looping animation with the model (in theory, tbc) which means smth like making the lil drake flap wings for example
  • motion types for the particles, like helix is, but it's basically mathing out the points where the particles should be
#

regarding testing it, for just the model swap preview it can be as simple as using a resourcepack to override the two existing models

#

ah forget to mention that models used are in geckolib format, so they export into .geo.json

#

and their model is under the geo folder

@open valve since it's an art matter, i should probably silent ping the artbuncle
