#Damage spell

Honestly, you’re going to have a hard time dealing damage to other players in ATM9 with Ars unless your opponent isn’t very advanced. It’s fairly trivial to effectively get immunity to damage in ATM9.
You can try some of the attack spells over in the compendium, but your overall success will depend on how advanced their defenses are:
One way to help bypass SOME of the immunities is to toss a dispel glyph near the start of your spell to get past things like Resistance V, but advanced players will have constantly renewing defenses so the window of opportunity to damage them will be small
Thanks i'll look into it
currrently im pretty early game though so I dont think they'll have many resistances
do these spells work good against mobs?
In early stages, most spells in that compendium will work fine against players. Against mobs - even advanced stuff like the leviathan - you can do fine with most things in there. I typically stick with Zap for most things and do fine.
ok tysm
Why the fuck would you give a new player the compedium
Why would I not?
yeah it's meant to be used
because he wants them to all ask questions in the forums instead of being able to look stuff up
Probably 😂
The whole point of the Compendium is to disseminate spell knowledge and give players a place TO look things up - instead of plastering the discord with “what’s most powerful spell” posts.
I really don’t understand this desire some people seem to have to “gatekeep” access to powerful and/or creative spells.
Dude its like giving an ipad to a baby
You and I differ on the best way to teach new players. I believe in learning by doing. Even when I take the time to teach in person on my server, I give the new player powerful spells to play with right off the bat and let them experiment as part of the process.
And for the record, my daughter got her own iPad when she turned 3.
I had to learn Ars slowly over the years, and because of that, I neglected things like Wall and Linger because I didn’t realize how powerful they could be. I don’t want new players to get “bored” because they think Ars isn’t useful enough, simply because no one pointed them towards the more powerful abilities thinking they “weren’t ready for it” yet.
I believe in learning by doing, not by having it done by someone else.
A good example for a player ACTUALLY learning something is the guy who posted https://discord.com/channels/743298050222587978/1264614560720224360
Sure, it's nothing groundbreakin, but he'll get there
If you don’t want to utilize the Compendium as a teaching tool then don’t, but I will continue to do so, and we’re just going to have to agree to disagree on this.
What does the compedium teach?
I’m done arguing with you Lava. I don’t know why you’ve seemingly developed this recent animosity towards me, but I’m done with it.
guys chill its not that deep lol
To add something new to the discussion: probably one of the most powerful tool in ars nouveau is the blink spell paired with a warp scroll in your off-hand. You can send people into chambers, that constantly spam the open crafting table menu on them. Or you could send them into the void below the overworld/nether/end (requires vanilla techniques to break bedrock), which requieres you to link a warp scroll to that location. Ars healing spells allow you to go nearly infinitely deep into the void to link the scroll, while your target once there can only escape by teleporting out and resistance V does not protect them... Probably goes without saying, but if you like your friends and you play without keepinventory = true, don't do the last one.
thanks, I've thought of it but imo its kinda too dirty/unfair to do so
but I'll probably still do it lmao
I generally don’t promote the “teleport to the void” tactic for fighting as it feels a bit like cheating.
On the ATM9 server I play on I’ve battled two admins to a standstill without having to resort to void teleports. Granted, neither side was able to actually kill the other (at least not without them using admin powers), but with creative use of Black Hole and a derivative of Witchbolt I was able to hold my own against them while keeping them at bay.
I HAVE teleported the admin to the void though as a joke
💀 tping someone into the void just sounds unfair as hell
Yeah. I reserve that for pranks on people I know can handle the situation, or jerks who deserve it.
I usually think about PvP scenarios in the style of „my enemy is annoying and has draconic evolution gear“. That suddenly limits a lot of options , at least of those I am aware off. But for „honourable“ duels, sure, tp-spells are dirty.
Btw how did you avoid critical armor durability loss? Or did you receive little damage in the first place?
I play on ATM9. Everything I own has an eternal Stella applied to it
Ok, indestructible modifier with another mod. I see... thx
It wasn’t really a factor in my battles with the admins as they would have likely one hit kill me if they could land a blow with their Morgans even without admin powers. It was more about utilizing my resources to keep them at range and having superior mobility. Lots of flying and blinking around while catching them in snare effects.
I take it, ATM9 does not have any gear that instantly removes negative potion effects then? Like for example avaritia's armor, draconic helmet or mekasuit helmet? And did they have ranged attacks?
They were trying to melee me, I was using ranged spells. And there are multiple ways to remove potion effects, but also just as many ways to reapply them. Using dispel on every spell was necessary to even land hits on one of them.
