#Snare Snap

It roots, freezes and damages your targets instantly. Targets will stay rooted for 7 seconds, allowing plenty of time for another strike or a tactical retreat. The three Amplify II glyphs (from Too Many Glyphs) can be replaced with two regular Amplify glyphs from base Ars Nouveau. The current spell in its current state does 25 damage and is enough for most regular mobs, unless your mobs come enchanted/enhanced or otherwise. If you only have access to the regular Amplify glyphs, then this spell does about 15 damage. I tested this using a target dummy mod called MmmMmmMmmMmm. The Accelerate glyph is just there to make the projectile faster and the Item Pickup glyph is well, a ranged loot grabber lol

Disclaimer: At the time of writing this post, I have not fought the wither, wilden chimera or the ender dragon so I do not know how well this spell works against them but I think it's safe assume Snare does not work on the wither or ender dragon. Snare doesn't work on phantoms either.

Update: I forgot add that this spell's power is being increased by a Spell Power thread in a lvl 2 slot on my gear. Without my gear, it does 21 damage. It also uses up about 1/3 of your mana bar without any mana boost enchantments. Mana Boost III on all four gear pieces makes it so you only use about 1/5 of your mana bar.

Doesn't cold snap snare

Can't open Minecraft atm but I'm pretty sure it just slows and freezes

smoky smelt
#

it trigger snare too

#

it slows if it can't damge

#

but also snare if it can damage

#

so if you drop the snare and make a double snap you probably end up with a stronger aoe spell

my go-to spell on my bow is cold_snap cold_snap aoe aoe aoe extend_time extend_time extend_time amplify amplify , but I have freeze threads

#

I'm not totally sure if there's a better combination of augments, but it freezes stuff in place pretty nicely

Unless I'm doing something wrong, Cold Snap doesn't seem to want to hit twice even with the Delay glyph. Also, the Snare effect only lasts four seconds without the Snare glyph.

Projectile > Accelerate > Freeze > Cold Snap > Amp II > Amp II > Amp II and either....

  1. Delay > Freeze > Cold Snap = 20 damage
  2. Freeze > Cold Snap > Amp II = 25 damage

I was doing 25 damage with my original spell and the Amp II only added mana cost and no extra damage. I tried this on mobs and they were surviving the initial shot.

I still might drop Snare for more glyph room. Four seconds is still enough time to put distance between yourself and your targets.

I have freeze threads, so the first cold snap is to apply freeze and an aoe. The second one roots and damages. I did use extend time on the cold snap, you could try that.

Without freeze threads, it's probably worthwhile to have the initial hit be a freeze or AOE freeze and not worry about hitting twice with cold snap.

You might consider adding some dot instead while they're snared, such as poison

Thanks to my fire bangle (Ars Elemental), at least the initial target gets sets on fire, heh. That's a little extra damage. I wasn't planning on using freeze threads but they are definitely viable for this spell. The Extend Time glyph only seemed to increase the time of the snaring part of Cold Snap but not the damage.

I started using Snare Snap as a way to combat Gusters (Alex Mobs) around my base since I live in a desert. They are immune to fire damage but not to cold damage, hehe!

Honestly what I use is projectile-freeze-cold snap-amplify-amplify-delay-extend time-cold snap-amplify-amplify

#

That snares on each cold snap. I've had troubles with freeze threads since I think it only applies when damage is which means for the first hit of a weapon its getting applied after the spell ends so no spell damage. Then the second hit has them slowed by freeze and deals damage.

Freeze threads definitely apply even when damage isn't dealt

#

for a fun time, heal your friends and watch them freeze to death

but no, freeze applies the status through iframes

Ok, that does 15 damage then 14 damage for a total of 29 damage. Very nice. Uses a little less mana as well. My only gripe is that the Item Pickup glyph doesn't work all the time on spells that have delayed damage IF the delayed damage is what kills the target.

Update: The second Cold Snap actually does 15 damage as well IF you don't have the fire bangle equipped like I do. So 30 damage, actually.

I dont understand why u use the delay is it because Minecraft caps the DMG ?

Yes, there is an approximately 0.5 second window after taking damage. In that window only the highest value will apply
