I totally get where you're coming from.
This isn't my first MMO and see the similarities between all of them.

The first few levels / upgrades are cheap since they want to draw you in and get a feel of the game. If you're someone who's willing to invest to get ahead faster, of course you'll spend.

But there's usually a point - some say 1 year, some say 2 years - where things get a little difficult. Upgrades get more expensive, events become repetitive and boring...those who have invested either see it as "oh, I've spent too much to quit now" or "why should I continue to spend when it's the same thing as it was years ago"....some rage quit while some just get salty.

Devs then try to figure out how to keep those who spend to keep spending - it's usually upgrades that just continue to get expensive or events that you need to spend to succeed. Like, more money spent = more power = more success. Enjoyment of the game is secondary.

It's unfortunate to see people quit and friends leave, but you can always keep in touch and see what other games you guys can play together 🤣. I was dragged to this game by friends from a previous game and I also dragged a friend from another game to this one...been playing since. I still keep in touch with players from other games too. They just gave up on MMOs 🥺

All MMO games have one goal: Make a profit. What you do with your time playing that game is up to you....and it's okay to want something more from a game

Usually when that happens and the temptation to quit comes. I find a secondary game.

Something not MMORPG - like a dash game, word game or another type of match3 game - to just take up time and/or see the value of the current game.

It either reinvigorates the like of the current game, or you realize you just needed something to keep occupied.

So I'm sure plenty of us have gone through the "I want to quit" stage. Yet we still lurk and linger 🤣. Community is usually one of the main reasons....and for some it's just for nuka 🫠

It's a long process that everyone deals with differently.

Previous game I played for 3years. Then a shortly lived other MMO game that was less than 2 months since it just didn't feel right. I tried to go back to the old game....wasn't the same anymore. Took a year hiatus from MMO til I got dragged into this one 🤣

Some friends continue to ask if 1) am I still playing this game? 2) do you want to play something else.... 🫠

Best thing right now is to lower expectations 🤣 and increase the want to play with friends rather than ranking.
