you may want to do troop upgrades on the training day. upgrades give very poor points/speedup ratio on the last day, but good points for the training day. so, if you have to do a lot of upgrades, training day is your day.

That's no longer an efficient strategy after the big Ace update. Day 4 is significantly less efficient than day 7 in every way. The only reason to do day 4 training or promotion is either to complete the bare minimum phase rewards or it overlaps with a break loose.
That's even before taking into account fast comeback.

If your goal is a set amount of troops, then training new troops give more points per speedup hour (I will not compare resource costs).

t13s are the outliers because they cost proportionately more speedups than any other tier and give less points per speedup hour than every other tier for promotion. Those combined make promoting t12 to t13 worse on day 7 than on day 4.
I checked promoting t9 to 10, as well as t11 to t12 and they all gave more points on day 7 than day 4 for both promotion and training new troops.

I need to get off the desktop so I have no more data for this right now.

ah ok. yeah. it depends on promoting from which tier to which tier. i never paid attention to lower tiers 😂
there has to be a cutoff. for example, it can be argued that training new can be considered as promoting from T0 to T13. so, it is a sort of spectrum. i would say that promoting only one troop tier definitely choose day 4.

I don't think there's a cutoff. t12 to t13 gives 2.5× less points than t11 to t12 (10 vs 25 respectively) and costs 3-4× as many speedups as the other tiers from what I've heard.
I believe that the costs for t13s are so much more inefficient than every other tier that it never breaks even compared to any other tier or range of tiers.
Later today I can get back on my desktop and punch in some numbers.

I believe that's going to be true based on the fact that pns intentionally designed the t13 jump to be that much more inefficient based on the other rising costs we've seen.
This one is just less obvious than the others because it's primarily a whale tier and they'll just pay it without batting an eye to stay competitive.

Yeah that's definitely good to know. Though the points are still very low. I think I'd rather use t12s to build fast comeback and train new t13s instead on day 7. That would cost significantly more food and wood though so it's a toss-up.
If I didn't care about points I'd go with promoting on day 4 though.
