#Fire Emblem Awakening

But I REALLY don't like losing them so i'll reset a lot of the time
I've been at peace with losing a few of them to make the game feel more impactful
Yeah, its getting to the point where every new unit I go "Okay....but I already have way better people"
Might beat it this week but come back to level some of these other dudes and hear the support convos
How are people grinding? Is there some way to get more wild encounters to occur on the world map?
Give me time Master!
My boy shows up in the flesh around Chapter 19 ||https://www.reddit.com/r/fireemblem/comments/3arjlu/did_anyone_else_call_walhart_walmart_at_first/||
Lookin forward to it
The DLC
OH I SEE
Specifically 2 maps; EXPonential Growth & Golden Goose missions
Enemy Risen will travel south along the map only fighting back when engaged (I think if they are trapped they will attack as well)
That DLC map name is a little too on the nose lol
Reeking boxes on the Ferox spot or the mountain pass level.
Cause I don't have/can't get DLC
OHHHHH I was wondering what Reeking Boxes were for, I thought you used them IN battle to summon Risen to fight FOR you
That makes so much more sense!
I have like 4 of those
seems like risen also spawn after enough real-time has passed
The map location your character is on with you use them makes a difference. If you use a reeking box while standing on the chapter 2 map location it will spawn a weaker fight than if you were standing on chapter 5.
Is there any way to do the DLC stuff on a vanilla 3ds?
My n3dsxl is "stock" but my N2DSXL is hacked
||Lucina's|| Trunks anime cutscenes are so cool
Ya you could download the dlc on 2dsxl and then just use it for the dlc maps since you're saving on the cartridge
I have n3dsxl hacked with it all downloaded also, but I'm using the cart
I have 2ds reg. So I can play the cart on the 2ds with same save but just can't access dlc
Which is kinda backwards tbh. Want the big screen for the story missions and would gladly use tiny screen for grinding but whatever
I've just been playing it all on the n3dsxl
I have found Donnel. And yeah that is definitely Sam's voice.
i'm excited to dive more into this. I'm sorta getting the impression on normal - Classic (permadeath ON) I don't really need to worry too much about ideal builds and reclassing?
Seems like I can probably just level to 20 (or close to it) and promote
One of my biggest gripes with the GBA titles is everyone always goes. WAIT TO 20 TO PROMOTE
and i fully understand it, but half the time the reality is that you end up promoting with like 3 chapters left
For 95% of my units I'm just 20/20ing
For Robin and Sumia I did goofy shit but that was mostly because I was grinding
Kinda just wanna do 20/20 - not make it take a million years, enjoy some of the upgraded units, and play through the game without it being too hard or too easy
Maybe look up some of the idea pairings for the 2nd gen fighters, but let some slide as what I find better pairings
Finally caught up on the thread here tho so thats cool lmao.
I got impatient and promoted MC and Chrom at 15. Hopefully that doesn't bite me in the tooshie
Also Lissa so she could finally attack.
TBH I doubt it
From what I'm gathering this one isn't super hard
I think the only "drawback" since you can grind for levels in this, is that higher levels on the promoted classes take a lot longer to level up
I don't think so. I think people said even at 10, promoting them was fine
Yep, unless you're on Lunatic you can wing it and you're probably fine
What is a little annoying to me is that I want to finish a character in their like.... Predictable class
So if you want to slurp some other skills up you have to do like. 1-10 tactician, seal 1-10 merc, promote 1-15, seal BACK 1-10 tactician, then do 1-15 grand master
Maybe kind of a nonsensical example
For the L character I'm doing 1-10 Lord, 1-10 pegasus knight, 1-15 dark flier, 1-10 Lord, 1-15 great lord
I wish it would just like remember what advanced classes you unlocked
Ha I did something similar I just didn't do hero (probably should have)
Anyway, long winded but I'm sure on normal just going like 15ish in a normal class and then promoting to the class that looks cool and you'd be fine for the most part
Now I kinda wish I did hero for Sol....
Played a chapter in FE7 on the plane too and I was confused why I couldn't recruit the green character. Looked it up when I got to hotel and let's just say I need to replay that chapter....
Need to talk to him with someone other than Eliwood...
This game has me seriously considering playing through the entire series (this was my first FE experience)
Was a great starter, this game was supposed to be the swan song of the series and it shows.
OH NO DONNEL AND MARRIBELLE ARE TOO CUTE
This happened to me too, but I’m enjoying all the paralogues
It was my first FE game too, i played it just in time for FE Fates and Echoes to release on the 3DS and subsequently ate those up
I thought I'd enjoy having death on but instead I just reset every time lmao
No one gets left behind
Unless we are talking about FE Echoes, where I sacrificed every possible unit on the final battle to secure the W
But the day was saved no??
......they all came back for the credits anyway
"Gray's lifeless corpse went on to a successful career as a weapon shop mannequin"
Alright.
Donnel and Mirabelle are married. Love it. Fantastic romance.(Within the confines of some of these other conversations)
I'm trying who to pair Frederick with. Lissa, or Olivia. (Nowi is possible but Nowi marring anyone makes me feel icky based on how shes acted)
But also Lissa could marry Kellam or Stahl. (Who I don't use so hes kinda out at this point)
And Kallem could marry Olivia BUT I kind don't want him to marry anyone who ignores his presence and Lissa's the only girl who (I believe) never does the "KELLEM!? WHEN DID YOU GET HERE" bit
Get em, Donnie!
Lol
||Finished Chapter 13 and I just unlocked 6 paralogues||
Trying to unlock gale force on Olivia before chapter 13 so I don’t have to go through it with Lucina, may or may not regret it!
Finally got Donnel to level 29, can’t wait to change his class, he’s gonna be a monster lol
Went to the gym last night and was so dead afterwords I was having a hard time locking in on this. I managed to do mission 1 and 2. (just did the opening and prologue chapters on Sunday) and about half of GotW last night.
I should have a good chunk of time for this tonight though. Looking forward to it
Oh and its funny. Robin and Chrom are like level 4 with a basic (C) Support and they're already doubling and wiping out anything near them if they're side by side
||Cherche|| has a nice interaction with him
So far I've just been winging it, I'd like to see what the experience is like just playing by feel for my first Fire Emblem game. I tend to stay away from min/maxing in general, it pulls me out of the game and I end up not enjoying it as much. It has been working out, we'll see if that changes and I start getting crushed in a few chapters.
Now add the gay awakening mod for even more options
Yea I'm more or less the same
I got galeforce on mine and boy was it nice to not have to grind it for Lucina. But either way, you’re grinding to get it
Just finished grinding Olivia for gale force for Lucina. Dark riders are no joke and she will be broken for most of the game 😅
I've got her/sumia/cordelia all on galeforce. Once I choose someone to be her Arank/Srank support we'll have three double hit sprinters
So the galeforce attack really..............blows enemies away?
Boy it seems like when one of my games goes through, everyone really likes it and people start talking about GOTY replays
-# IT'S ALMOST LIKE THERE'S A PATTERN
Personally I always wanted this to win cause Fire Emblem is great. Not sure why everyone was so afraid of it...
that your games only get through when they're good?
I forget how genuinely amazing Awakening hits, possibly the most replay-able game on the 3DS
Cramming the dating sim into a SRPG was brilliant
Now imagine if tokimeki memorial occasionally let you fight battles
Play FE: Three Houses for even more shenanigans
The beauty of most FE games is the replayability and using different characters
The newer ones are flat in the sense that anyone can be good
But some of the older ones had genuine turd characters that would occasionally git gud
It happened in our side Thracia run.
If my son ever puts down my switch I will
I guess I do have a thor
Aren't you the guy that nominated Mega Man Zero?
He never said the pattern couldn't be one of abuse via gaming 😂
Why focus on the past when we can Fire Emblem now
Restart
But his Luck stat
I think this level of romance/dating is about all I could really enjoy
Its 9 text boxes. Perfectly length.
Then back to stabby shooty
Made Donnel a Hero after reaching level 30 villager. Bummer about losing the lances tho
Crazy to think how high his stats will go after leveling/promoting. He’ll likely become my strongest unit now
Probably going to get Sol on mc and then get though the rest of the game.
It has been nice to have Cordelia move the two of them, switch to robin, hit and heal almost every other attack (using brave sword basically confirms you get healed or kill before taking damage) and then also Cordelia is never in danger
Is it weird to marry Lucina and Robin.... ? If I do that, does their kid inherit fixed skills or "last equipped" like normal?
Maybe kinda "burns" getting two good kids for one kid but also I feel like I have enough troops anyway?
Ps. 0 people in Arlington understand that you should let people off the elevator before you try to jam in.
When you load into a child's paralogue they'll randomly fill their slots out of whatever is in the parents' ability slots at the time, you can use the map preview to look at the inherited abilities and if you don't like it you can go back to map and re-enter to re-roll
It's broken because you can have Galeforce on a male unit if his mom knows it
Or give Counter to a daughter
All right. I mentioned this in the monthly channel but I just verified that my 3DS can take a charge and turn on, but it's having issues with the A button. I could open it up to clean it but I do worry a bit about the part about taking off the sticky D-pad cover
So considering maybe just using my Deck after all?
Kinda wish I married tharja instead
My chance to bag a goth baddie and I fumbled it
I successfully restored the battery compartment and buttons on my old GBC but that is a simpler piece of hardware and still required me getting help from the hardware store to deal with stuck screws
Where's the divorce paralogue?
tfw I won't be able to marry Tharja. Or will I? I forget when they added that option
Playing on the deck is more convenient at least
How so? I know Awakening has built-in fast forward and the option to turn off the whole unit permadeath thing
Regular charger, bigger screen, better controls/ergo, option for upscaling/texture packs, that type of thing I meant
I also don't like using my 3ds because it is hard to replace so I'm paranoid 🙂
All of that is fair. My Deck doesn't have dual screens tho alas and I'm not running out and getting a Thor
So I'm going to give myself a day or two to think on it
I think some units give kind of "fixed" skills. Like Lucina always passes Aether and Robin always passes veteran. Checking the map and reloading the save is a good tip. I can't get any other combo besides Aether, Ignis, Solidarity, Veteran. Might just be unlucky though
If I could swap Solidarity for Galeforce....
Can Robin marry Lissa and then Lucina marry Morgan....
Some Alabama type shi
Ya I'm playing on my og 3DS like God intended, was just trying to support either decision 🙂
I really thought about playing on deck though
I understand. There are things to recommend just using the Deck
dont reload the save, in the prep screen you can completely back out of the chapter to the world map and re-enter the paralogue, reloading a save might be why you're getting the same lineup
The two armies paralogue is the most fun I've had so far. Literally 50 units and all of them are just getting trounced
Just did it 7 times, had the same skills each time. This time with Rally Spectrum in place of Ignis because I didn't reorder them
I am crap at this game. But I am loving it so far.
Lissa as a dark flier is disturbing to me
If you second seal after hitting 15 you can change to any advanced class available to the character. And yes 🙂
Okay, i think its too late for me to power level anyone else (im over 20 hours) but thatd be cool to do if i ever replay
Power leveling Lissa feels like such a drag for some reason
More like where is the polygamy paralogue
Fwiw I've been using a single screen device and it's going fine.
Let's go!
Lets goooo
The Thor is definitely earning it's place in my collection with this one. Also just hit chapter 6, is Frederick supposed to be hard carrying me? Because no matter what the game says about who the heroes are he keeps being invaluavle.
Oh, who was that dark mage in like chapter 13 or 14.
He got swarmed round one and died to a crit after taking three other hits. Rip Hensley or w/e his name was
Rip to the unit that was disintegrated
I am no longer having fun on the two armies paralogue. Penne's fuckass kid keeps trying to fight Donnel 1v1 and getting obliterated. But whenever I rush him as Chrom, he can't survive long enough to get back to safety.(And leaves Chrom or the others too open)
Hmm. Maybe I should try to thread the needle and put Donnel NEAR him so he can pair up and just be bulletproof with Donnel.
I hope that Henry's class is "Dad" because his jokes are ON POINT lol
Who was the other parent??
Yes. Frederick is supposed to hard carry for a while
These paralogues hit quite a jump in difficulty when all the enemies have silver weapons
Perhaps it's time for frederick to make his noble sacrifice
I ended up going Lissa. But also power levelled him up a bunch
Could also do a rescue chain
Not really spoilers cause its ridiculously early on. But in that first cutscene where you are introduced to "The Risen" I like how Chrom and Lissa are just like "oh my god I have to fight these things"
Was I the only one that thought to myself, If I was camping out, and a giant eye with runes surrounding it appeared in the sky, AND THEN WALKING CORPSES SLITHERED OUT. I would probably just crap my pants and enter the fetal position? lol.
I'm on chapter 10 and Big Fred has been great. He has bailed out quote a few characters that were a little weaker.
uh same, news to me Morgan is not a guy.
Donnel was the way. He solo’d the red army by himself while Robin/Cordelia fought the green army with Lucinda/morgan.
left everyone else out of range so nobody could get crit. Great paralogue
Morgan is the opposite gender of your player character from what I see
If the female morgan is dudelike I don't know yet and haven't gotten that far lol.
and I can't help that lol
I do have a female Robin, so that would make sense.
Definitely got like a....Androgynous look to them.
For some reason in my head it was just always a guy, but it makes sense that it would change based on your Robin.
Also makes sense to have an androgynous look and name for that.
Mine has: Galeforce, Sol, Armsthrift, Ignis, and right now Veteran. All stats in the 30s or 40s and I gave them Boots. An absolute beast.
Final class I'm going to use Dark Knight.
My MC is female and my Morgan is a boy and he’s a stone cold killer
Becoming my best unit until Donnel gets his weapon affinities back up
Henry :) love that guy
My senior quote was actually what he says when he has a terrible level up "Haha! I didn't learn a thing!"
Pretty sure I could just solo the rest of the game with Morgan
Yeah Morgan is a demon
Trying to get Owain up now
When do you get boots. Seems like the only item I've never gotten/found
Made Owain a Paladin to balance out his sister being a Dark Knight. Feel like it fits him also.
Here's my Fred btw lol
I second sealed my fred so hes leveled as much as anyone else
I'm just struggling with howany kids so I turn into God's before I just finish the game?
Takes a couple hours per kid. Between power levelling the mom and then power levelling the kid
Inigo is funny
I haven't used Olivia like at all
I'm ready for Maribelle's and Cornelias kid. Sully I could do but it won't ever be a power kid like I'veade the other two
Cornelias? Haven't met them yet
OH
Did you mean Cordelia? She's my kid and MAN she's STOOPID I was thinking of Sumia's kid, not Coredelia.
I had Chrom marry Olivia, then power leveled her so her kids got Galeforce and she actually slays as a Darkflyer
Everyone slays with Galeforce. Tbh though it isnt worth it to ride a pegasus. The bow weaknesses isn't worth it
Get Galeforce and reclass IMO
I've been using Morgan on Pegasus to cart Lucina across the map, then using galeforce to get 2 units. Can't wait until Morgan get its so that I can go "bop" move, switch, BOP move Bop
Would be awesome if you could use Dance to queue up another turn before they go but I get it
Chrom: Urine has come!
Galeforce trains can clear some "kill the commander" maps in 1 turn it's very funny
Alright, all those paralogues are done. Time to continue to chapter 14
Just finished it. In the top 3 of all GotX games for me.
I'll be finishing tomorrow and enjoying the dlc as well
Slowly enjoying my way through this. I must be going nuts, because I'm considering marrying my Robin to Virion... Their supports are really nice and I feel like I should break the loop of always marrying Chrom.
I'm not playing on classic, so I don't care about the children's stats.
I'll wait to get some more chr's but I feel like Sumia is the canon choice for Chrom.
Heh, arguable; she, like all wives except Robin, gets completely ignored after marriage. I feel like she was what was intended at the time, but in later off games appearances, IS caved to popular opinion and made Robin his canon choice. Doesn't help that male Robin doesn't seem to have any good canon options either.
Not like it matters if you're not playing on classic anyway, this is not a hard game on regular difficulty. Just go with what you like.
(I'll just make Chrom marry the random villager if I pair Robin with someone else, cause gosh dang does his and Robin's devotion to each other feel very off when they're married to someone else. At least the random villager woman literally does not matter, so I won't feel as bad.)
If you have a male Robin, I encourage to give Sully and Cordelia's supports with Chrom a chance.
#fireemblemawakening #fireemblem #fireemblemheroes
Checking the game's code we can see that each of the character's in Fire Emblem Awakening have canon pairings. I thought this was pretty cool, so I decided to share it.
Who is the best partner for Chrom?
Who are the best pairings in Fire Emblem Awakening?
What are the canon pairings in Fire E...
This guy breaks it down more than I would ever care lol. I watched some of it last night
I ended up going Chrom/Sumia, Robin/Lissa, Sully/Kellam (really liked this one), Gaius/Cordelia, Lonqu/Tharja, Donnel/Maribelle,
BTW the max units used on any story map is 15 I believe
If I were to do it again I think Robin/Lucina would be cool and almost did that. Also Robin/Tharja
These guys have the same vibe
Robin/tharja gave me the most ridiculous Morgan
I would do it again
I might play lunatic/casual after this
Loved FE when I was younger but I haven't had much time to dive into new games lately. Maybe my daughter will allow for some more time before the end of the month!
The sauce of his power
I get its story purposes...But I think Donnel could solo walharts entire army at this point
I forged Alm's blade up to 20 Mit and he's not used a single instance of it in two chapters yet even though hes been frontlining. I think he's hitting 60x2 in every round
Walhart ||is a fucking chump||
0 damage delt, died each time in one round
Lol
Gonna do Robin/Tiki, Dragon Morgan is awesome haha
Just did this one! Stahl + Morgan finished him in one turn, backing each other up for dual strikes lol
This is the back half of my Awakening playthrough in an image
Breaking out my galaxy 3ds for this one. Haven't played this game in 10 years, but I remember loving it.
Im at around stage 7 and its been a little tricky. Been restarting a bunch due to deaths. Feel like i need a side stage to grind just a tiny bit more. But I might just need to tank through with my stronger 5-6 units unit I unlock more stuff. Got my first randon encounter with risen but they're decently leveled so its kinda tough to not have my level 3's-4's get wiped
Yeah, my first bout with a Risen random was tough
These idiots need to stop letting people monologue and start stabbing obviously evil people before they do some super magic bullshit
OMG, they named a mountain after me in this game
I'm honored
I think that's precrime
It's frowned upon generally as a theory of criminal justice
Holy shit reclassing Lissa as a Valkyrie is IMMEDIATELY better
Why did I talk myself into making her a war cleric
I finished up that first Risen encounter. Most of my team is like level 7-9 so I was surprised to see the Risen like level 11-12. Played a bit smarter while I munched breakfast this morning and was able to get Donnel a level so thats good.
You’re just wasting xp letting anyone besides Chrom or Robin get it :p
lol nah man. They're the easy level ups. I guess the "struggle" with this game vs older games is building supports for marriage/kids.
I did Sacred Stones in January and that one was a lot more just "level the party of about 10-15 you want to use, and you're set.
This game out here got us leveling people we don't even want to use just due to the Children/support system.
I didnt engage with marriage or children at all, tbh lol just my two man wrecking crew
Yeah I think this one has a bit of a focus shift to be honest where like, you can somewhat easily push through the story but theres all that relationship building stuff for people who want to get something more out of the game.
And I think it was Zu who mentioned this stuff is all played around with in older entries like the SNES games, but I think Awakening is where they really kinda made that a key aspect
Yeah, might go back and do a less broken run for goty next year something. Although, legend of Zelda second quest is gonna be right there
True. Yeah I dunno. I think as much as I do like this game, and it would be fun to grind out supports and stuff, I'll just have to see what wins.
If anyting this is just making me want to play some more of the 3ds games and maybe finally get around to the switch games.
Still early in the year, but I could see both this and zelda getting at least 1 award
I mean yeah I don't doubt it, but we'll have to see
Yeah, I hope gotx becomes Thor settings club lol
Because it was super nice having the community figure out the best way to play this
Bring on more 3DS games
I have a few 3ds family devices so like
I'm always down for 3ds
Thor just doesn't interest me, but thats a ME thing
So good with the HD textures and upscaling, broski
But yeah I’m a one device person, I get that you are not
I agree I didn't watch zu's vid (shhh don't tell) but the few screenshots posted it looked real good. Save States honestly would save me a lot of frustrations. Restarting the stage makes me slight rage lmao.
But yeah I like having a handful of silly little handhelds.
I could probably downsize and stick to like 5-6 vs the like 15 I have now though.
This is why I just play in casual mode, I did my time resetting chapters and I just don’t want to fuss with it anymore 🤣
I liked her as a war cleric, trying to get galeforce as a dark flier has made me hate her. She is just a sitting duck now.
Taking the def hit did hurt a bit
I think .... And it's hard to admit this... Lissa might be the problem
Maybe. Feels like all my dark filers have the same problem with just getting absolutely wrecked.
I might be the only one but the hd textures/images do not look good to me. Too AI smooth.
I should have for the point, but growing up with fire emblem 7 and 8 I feel like permadeath is intrinsic lol
I grew up with those too, I just feel like I’ve done my time with perma death 😂 I can enjoy the game without having to start entire battles over!
I wish I could
that is a level of cognitive dissonance that I cannot aspire to
Everyone lives (at least until the final battle)
Lol. I did not care for vaike
His personality was a bit grating, but I use him quite a bit. He's kind of a glass cannon.
outside of the one battle he was forced into, I haven't touched him.
Fun game.
Once Vaike gets Sol he becomes his own healer. Made him a hero with a Killer Axe equipped to keep triggering crits
Yeah his Crit is quite high
The amount of classes gets kinda wild ngl lol
When I played sacred stones for January I was like wait, I can like branch promote paths??!??!
Used to FE7 where its like, you basically have a pre-assigned class for each unit with one singular upgrade lol
I gotta figure out who to level and promote in FE7
There are a few not great characters IIRC lol.
Gotta level all your lords for sure. I avoid all pre-promotes like the plague
I usually just stick to the first character or two per class that you get though
MODS BAN HIM
The one time Zu reads the crap I say
Nino is a beast, you get her fairly late but power leveling her is worth it!
Ok I lied. I forgot about all the spotpass maps
I CALLED IN A PERSONAL FAVOR ON THIS ONE
An expert from multiple combat and law enforcement operations
AND HIS PARTNER IS HERE TOO
All these years and they still cannot afford pants
looks like they lost their shirts too. Times must be tough.
It's hot in Florida
Look, the economy is in shambles
By the end of hard mode it feels like every enemy has a ranged option
So now I'm thinking anything except magic is basically worthless
I'm glad I changed Lissa's class
I wish she had more def though lol
I guess I suck at fire emblem
Getting owned on chapter 7 lol
Restarted like 5-6 times, then the random encounter that popped up I couldn't beat, so... grinding with reeking boxes. sigh
If you've got the DLC, the EXPonential growth mission is the quickest way to grind. Should unlock after chapter 4 I think.
I can't get the damn DLC to work on emulation, so I've just been grinding the random Risen that pop up randomly
Azahar?
Thank you. Idk why just finding the game tough all of a sudden
Yep yep. I get the prompt from Azahar that the DLC file has been loaded successfully, but when I go to that Outrealm Gate there's no maps or anything to access.
for both texture packs and mods on Azahar (for Fire Emblem, I haven't used it for anything else) I haven't been able to get them to be recognized manually. They just start working randomly down the line.
I'm playing on a cart and have a few 3ds family devices. My 2dsxl was hacked already so I just updated luma and migrated over to hshop since it looks like freeshop is long dead. Anyway took about 15-20 mins and I have all the dlc now. That exponential growth is almost cheating lol
Ah well. Will make my life easier. Don't need the game to be a total cakewalk but constant restarts arent very fun.
It’s fantastic, I don’t even know about that map back in the day but it’s taken a lot of tedium out of the grind!
Man… I want to play Pokopia, but here I am getting ready to hand Wahlert’s ass to him..
Uh his name is Walmart and my Morgan casually, almost dismisisvely critted him for 60 points of damage
Do I still have time for the noble eugenics sim if I'm not very busy over the next couple weeks
I always forget ||how haunting the music, or lack there of, is for Chapter 10||
A few levels did me good
Donnel is like level 12-13 now. He's already turning into a monster with an iron lance.
Game finished. Feel like I should have dated Chrom. Most of the character romance pairings felt kind of shallow but the rest of the plot has regular drops at Chrom and Robin having an unbreakable bond and what not.
Oh shoot there is a cutscene after the end. Almost shut off the console.
If you focus, yeah probably
My gaming has been all over the place this month and I'm mostly done
Last few chapters I’ve spent more time healing healers than anyone else
Yeah I'm wondering if they get less squishy when promoted
Again i'm only chapter 9 I need to pick up the pace lol. I was having some trouble so I spent a few hours grinding
I think my new meds are causing minor insanity. I decided to go, fuck it, I'll try repairing the 3DS. it's now disassembled and I'm just giving the alcohol a bit of time to dry because it's 70%
afterwards I'll see if the button plastic thing will still reattach
worst-case scenario it looks like you can still buy replacements for the button pad sticker, though it'd mean taking the thing back apart and another shot at damaging the cables
...ifixit also sells batteries, which is good because the battery in the thing looks slightly fatter than it should. Not, like, an enormous amount, and it still turns on, but the kind of thing I should maybe keep an eye on if it starts having power issues
(ifixit doesn't sell the button sticker tho. Which is kind of insane. I feel like that's one of the things really likely to go. have to get that off ali)
aaaand I have failed. top screen display now isn't working. Which means either I seated the ribbon cable to the top LCD incorrectly or damaged it. it was not easy to work with
At this point I should probably contact a professional rather than keep fucking with it
When my Lissa got to War Cleric (or whatever it’s called) she got a lot less squishy. Still a little bit, but can absorb a few attacks now at least.
i took Lissa through so many classes.... I wasn't going to do dark flier for her but then i wanted her to pass it on so i did - then i had to switch her back to something i actually wanted
so it was just a lot
Definitely hope this can win a GOTY category. It’d be great to take my time exploring all the different pairings and classes
Currently doing this right now, about 2 levels away from gale force
Chapter 19 was a little tense. Lost a lot of units and needed to rush the commander at the end.
on 16X rn
Fire emblem is good man. Only struggle I had with 7 on my most recent go around is I should have grinded at the arenas a bit more. I didn't have too much trouble until the last level, which again wasn't too bad either but the last boss I had to cheese to beat. Seemed like a wild spike in difficulty from everything else prior (even from the other enemies on that last level)
I always have trouble with the last level of 7, I feel like 90% of my units would die no matter their level or weapon or whatever
damn lava level
ya that was stressful lol
when you have a job with long breaks
(I can't recommend night auditor to everyone, but if you're naturally night people already, it... OK it can really worsen some tendencies but still)
I obviously type a lot in here at work but couldn't pull off straight up pulling out the 34XX and playing some FE, let alone the N3DS for Awakening. Also I'm salaried so it would just delay me from going home anyway 🙂
I decided to completely redo Chapter 11 after having just beaten it ||because it had Chrom marrying Sully at the end||
Just finished chapter 21. My team is split between heavy hitters and cannon fodder.
I'm at the paralogue 17 trying to keep Tiki alive. So she can join my team. Struggling with this, I might have to grind some more battles before trying again. I didn't think I'd like this game as much as I do. 👍🏻
I had to turtle up to keep her alive. Left a space between her and the rest of the party where I had a healer that could move around to get to everyone.
Im sure its been discussed but this thread is long lol forgive me if repeat questions. I'm enjoying the game, about 10 hours in. But reading your discussions I feel like I may be missing out on a lot. Im using all characters, trying to level them all equally. Have everyone around level 10, trying to mix up the relationship building. But I feel super under powered. People are talking about Donnell being OP, but mine gets one shot and does barely any damage. I use the optimize button for my equip, should I be going through and equipping weapons specifically for people? And for the shop, it seems like its just a bunch of things I already have. Is there a li k to a decent video that explains the mechanics fairly thoroughly? Usually I can figure these things out with YouTube/trial and error. But all I can find is videos on who to build relationships, not much in terms of game mechanics and structure. Thanks, and sorry again for the long winded message!
Donnell is OP later. His base ability gives him a higher chance for stat increases on level-up than normal so he often ends up with very high stats.
Until you get him to 10 as a villager, he is a bit of a struggle. But then you get to give him a seal to get him into something better.
I only used the optomize button for everything. I realized later in the game I could do it for my entire party from the deployment menu. Which gave me better spread for everyone rather than one person getting all the best gear of a specific weapon type.
you might be trying too hard to level everyone. I kind of just neglected anyone that wasn't in my preferred team and pretended they didn't exist. Which means more EXP for that dedicated group compared to spreading it out to everyone.
I'm around chapter 10 and 10 hours in. Done 4 or so paralogues. A few characters I'm just flat out not using and don't plan to. Thats sorta how you do it. This game does shake it up due to relationships/kids.
The answer is grinding. I spent 2 hours or so grinding because chapter 7 or 8 was kicking my ass. I now feel like its a little difficult without being too hard
I would avoid leveling Frederick or any other "pre promotes" as they end up way worse then the characters you bring all the way up later on. Also I wouldn't focus on leveling EVERYONE up
I.e. Like you only need Ricken OR Miriel, you don't need both. Sully OR Stahl, not both. Etc.
Everyone keeps shitting on Frederick but he was one of my strongest all the way through haha.
I am leveling both healers though, they're easy to get levels for as you can just hang back and heal every single turn
Sounds like he "can" be good then. Usually in some of the slightly older (gba) titles the pre-promotes they give you are a newbie trap
Waste of precious EXP
I think a lot of people have said that about this one as well. They are usually meant to serve as a unit to help you along in the early game. I'm not sure why I felt like he kept kicking ass all the way through. I did have everyone paired up a lot late game.
Awesome thanks! Appreciate the advice. Ill look into just the people I want to use and level them more. Find some more info on classes and what not. How did you grind? I do all the battles that pop up and all the paralouges. Do I need to find a way to get the DLC?
frederick and sully are my frontline. they tank everything.
You can buy the "reeking box" item to spawn additional risen to fight
They will spawn on whatever map you are standing on when you use it. I think the later the stage - the stronger the risen will be
I do have a modded 2dsxl so it was suuuuper easy to add the dlc tho. Dlc is almost painfully easy
The DLC is the best way from what people have said. I did not have it, it sounds like it almost trivializes the grind. The DLC also gives you access to what people seem to say is undoubtedly the best class.
Something I didn't realize until later, each spot represents a chapter. They don't repeat. So you'll want to watch your second screen to see where the highest spot you can use the reeking box at. Or close to there if you think that might be too high.
Frederick is OP for the first half of the game, but becomes slower to level than others at the end game because you didn't get the "quick" levels to gain stats as a basic class.
You can definitely use all characters it will just require a lot more investment in grinding time.
I was doing that for a long time but got worn out and eventually just picked my favorites and made them OP.
With extra battles you can easily make every character OP (and the EXPonential Growth DLC is basically cheat mode for grinding)
I suppose I didn't try it because I didn't really use him but I wonder if you can second seal him down to a basic class? Probably.
I think that the maximum units fielded for any chapter is 15 so if you have 15 strong characters you are probably set.
I think there is one towards the end that is 16. I remember taking note of it because someone here had mentioned 15 before.
Just beat Awakening! Dragon Morgan pretty much untouchable for the last 7 missions of the game!
You actually take 30 units into the final DLC paralogue, but besides that uber hard endgame challenge map you never need more than Chrom + 15 other units. https://www.fireemblemwod.com/fe13/guia/ENG_capitulo-23x.htm
I think thats the biggest struggle I have with this game .... somewhat an issue in all fire emblems to an extent but this one in particular (probably later titles too tbh - this is the "newest" fire emblem I've ever played)
1 - Its hard to pick favorites, theres always a few stinkers, but a lot of the cast is "generally likeable and well designed"
2 - The supports and relationship building in this game add length by making you want to grind for levels and supports for a lot of these peeps
it's basically pokemon if the pokemon get married
do your pokemon not get married?
I just finished. Fun game. Really great that all the chapters were done in 20-30 minutes. Made it nice to play on a commute. Contrast that with Advance Wars where some of those levels could take an hour or more. There's still a lot I don't really understand about the battle system. Lots of menu options I never picked. Also a lot of characters I never picked. Maybe that's more relevant in classic mode where people die and you need to replace them with new ones.
I have a problem where I like to keep most of my characters at a relatively close level just in case I need an extra insert class here for a map.
the pattern for me in the later missions was that half my party would just get wiped out while chrom, mc, frederick, sully, and donnel cleaned everything up by themselves
But I always have 4-5 ride or dies. Either from the internet telling me they are really good or some rng caused a miracle moment that endears them to me
it was tough to level up the second string characters through normal gameplay because they couldn't kill any enemies on their own but also the main characters were so strong they wouldn't leave any weakened enemies for the others to gain some xp on
Like for some reason this go around Ricken has had some crazy HP and def growth along with pair up rng moments that were "G'Dam"
That dude never made it past ch 8 most of the time for me
I feel like supporting weaker characters with your uber characters make them pretty viable. Usually I'd go into a grind map with half of the people I wanted to level up and then half OP units to support thme
Also I finished in under 15 hours. Well below the hltb.
I think I was 32 hours
I’m on the last chapter now, heartbroken it’s over
i'm going to replay the last few chapters, kinda rushed through them and got done in the wee hours of the morning and want to watch teh story bits again
I finally have time to play this more for real, I'm just using DLC to level all my units to about 8 to do story however I want without needing to stick to a single roster for ages
I found pairing up your characters makes the later chapters so much easier. I have about 3-4 chapters left. I ended up getting tiki by pair up around her in a diamond and just skipping my turn and having them attack me.
Sounds tactic
I'm only learning now (Chapter 19) how to talk to your heroes between battles to improve their relationship 🫠
I thought that just happened organically with the hearts appearing...
Oh dang does that mean Crom had townie wife? This is the worst timeline.
lol which one is the townie
If you don't do an S rank support with someone a nameless villager becomes Chrom's wife
Oh? He still ended up having a || baby with Sumia ||
You...must have had some sort of support level then lol
I think if you literally avoid supports at all costs is how you get the villager wife
i dind't realize that different pairs earn support rank at a faster pace
until i watched an entirely too indepth video about it
Chrom will marry whomever he has the highest support level with after Chapter 11. You would essentially have to never have him next to or paired up with a female character he can reach S rank with to get the townie wife.
I thought relationships were purely built on who they're paired up with in combat so Chrom always flew with Sumia for me
They build both from fighting next to each other AND when pairing up. Also from Barracks and Support dialogue. I can confirm in this run it happened because Chrom never paired up with Sully, but they were always fighting near one another, and he initially asked Sully to marry him. I say initially, because I didn't want that, so I redid the chapter and had him fighting next to Sumia the whole time to build their relationship higher
So || Lucina || isn't always a badass?
My Lucina is kinda mediocre
I got rando wife for Chrom because he only ever partnered with my male Robin
I got halfway through this game when it first came out but stalled out, and I think a big part of that was trying to pay too much attention to pairings. This time around, my plan is to completely ignore all of that, not look up anything, and roll with whatever happens. Mechanically suboptimal, but at least I should avoid option paralysis.
By the way, is there any potential appetite for more Fire Emblem next month, or would it be too soon even for those of us who are into it?
https://backloggd.com/games/fire-emblem-the-morrows-golden-country--1/
I keep meaning to dive into the world of fan-made campaigns, and this one has gotten a ton of very high praise.
Well I just discovered path of radiance would count for you as well lol
Yeah, I hadn't even thought of that, but it's a good call. I've played through that one a couple times, though, including fairly recently. Not going to nom it, but wouldn't be opposed to another run if someone else did.
I’ve only ever played Awakening, this month
From what I've heard Path of Radiance is extremely hard lmao
As is Fire Emblem 6 - the binding blade which was not localized in america
I died on the first or second map and was shocked lol
Fe7 atleast starts you SORTA slow
You might be thinking of the followup, Radiant Dawn? Path of Radiance is generally considered one of the easiest games in the series, at least for the western release. They made all the difficulties one step easier, so US hard == JP normal. But then they didn't do that for Radiant Dawn, so if you pick the same difficulty on both, RD is a lot harder.
Agree that FE6 is legit much harder than the other GBA games though.
I love checking out fan made games. I'd vote for this.
Got it. It must be that. I own both games but have not really played much of either TBH.
But yeah, I heard one of them has CONSTANT reinforcements that'll really catch you with your pants down. In this day and age with save states I think I can get through any of them. I Love fire emblem I'm just notoriously bad at them lol
Yeah I played a few stages and went
Oh nice, Azahar might have "per game settings" soon. Especially useful for this game where it's all a bundle of custom settings.
Nice! That'll be very helpful.
Just started the last chapter today, a little concerned for my weaker units lol. Should probably just pair them up with my beefcakes lol
Same, started it a while ago and the stress has held me back at like chapter 10 😅
Lol, Donnel's strength already maxed out at Lv. 24 villager. Can't wait to promote him!
The max might be class based. I swear mine had a strength in the 40s by the end.
Oh it's not his overall max, just for villager. Means his growth is doing great, though!
Ah I see.
What the. Maribelle/Lon'qu is cute as hell.
Beat it. It’s too short! Lol. Absolutely loved this game.
I’d have to check my save, but I’m sure I’m around 30 hours
Goddamn Henry!
I love this game so much! Made it to Chapter 16, taking some time to grind some Risen randoms for experience and relationship levels before continuing.
I went to boot up Awakening and the texture pack didn't load.
It's like trying to watch sports on SD TV back when you still had that option
chapter 19 will be the death of me (or robin, always robin)
GotY. Just seeing that I was playing it broke a friend out of a depressive funk and hearing I was playing it made a blind date improve.
tfw I don't know how to install the DLC in Azahar
I think you have to patch your save file or something. Someone linked out to it somewhere in here.
Settings > install CIA.
It'll know where to go.
Like, emulator settings, not game settings.
I tried, but there's not a CIA file. I forget exactly what the extension I saw in the pile of files is
Huh, and selecting it despite it not being a CIA doesn't work?
I could try it again later but it didn't work.
:( Sorry.
I always feel so bad for Kellam, lol
Kellam is currently on my 3rd tier team aka "I'll level them up via dlc later"
kellam was paired up with frederick for a while as a tank unit before sully showed up.
I paired Kellam to Sully and used them in basically every battle
No one could damage them
Kellam's ||daughter is a walking tank||
Alright, got everyone partnered up to S that I could. Was surprising ||how sweet Frederick and Panne's S rank was, same with Henry and Olivia.||
Yeah, I'm leveling Kellam from DLC to get a skill for his kiddo. My plan is to superpower the parents for skills, then only play the kids with those skills but way fewer levels.
I totally botched the relationships because I didn't use the "support" button before combat until I was Chapter 17 or something
Even though I was pairing up all the people I wanted to build relationships with
I paired people up intentionally but then I got them to S rank and didn't want to pair them up with anyone else.... felt like they were cheating when they did....
So I didn't develop too much lol
Now that everyone's paired off, I'm going through the paralogues and leveling up the current kiddos while recruiting new ones
Restarted chapter 11 no less then 6 times.... just power leveled everyone i'll be using to 20
Damn, Paralogue 11 is a bitch
“paired off”?
S-tier relationships
😮
30 hours in at Chapter 18. ||Just got Gerome, and he's a bummer||
I never deployed him after getting him. Tiki either
Yeah, I've been hard stuck on that chapter. Starting to lose my mind. I'm playing Hard, Classic and I keep having at least 1 key unit die from the mage onslaught.
I've been trying to play vanilla without using the dlc to power level. May have to resort to it soon if I can't figure out a viable strategy.
I've been turtling and covering the spawns on the far upper left corner of the map
Using both bridge entrances as choke points
He's an absolute wrecking ball, his personality just sucks
May not finish this in time for GotM. Been a weird month. Glad I preserved my streak with DK. But clearly I needed this game in my life and it is a delight to play when I can.
Yeah I just said eff it and overleveled to hell. Ah well
I don't blame you lol. I finally pulled it off. I was hoarding my seals. Promoted Chrom to ||Great Lord|| and Stahl to ||Myrmadin|| class. Was the little boost I needed. Now I'm starting to roll, my squad finally feels like they got over the hump of mediocrity. Promoted MU to ||Dark Mage||.
||Olivia|| died during the mission, oh well. I never use her anyway.
Is this one expected to be a GotY? Because I've got a lot if time between now and the end of the month, but I just got 3DS emulation working
I wouldn't bank on anything being a certainty, but a) lots of people are having a good time, b) several never got around to it this month, and c) the last Fire Emblem game that made GOTM won GOTY. In my mind, that's a good recipe for at least a GOTY category win.
Which fire emblem was that?
Sacred stones is the only other FE they played here I believe
I did it for January this year
I made some progress over the weekend.
One...sorta question. One observation
Just got to the part where the kids start popping up, and the later paralogues with them pop up. was shocked to jump from paralogue 4 all the way to 9 and 10 lol.
It seems like the paralogues to get them are sorta challenging. I basically got annoyed with restarting constantly so basically ALL of my main units are now promotes.
A note on the kids. I know that they get the stats of their parents and stuff, and become overall stronger characters. Question is - are they needed for the later chapters? Like your main crew of "adults" when they max out at level 20 is that not strong enough to finish the game? Or is that more of a insanity mode concern. I'm just playing on normal
Just curious on a normal playthrough if you even need to use the kids at all.
I beat the whole normal playthrough using only an over leveled Chrom and Robin, like I only deployed those two units once they were strong enough, you don’t need anything else lol
(Didn’t do many paralogues)
Were you playing Normal Classic @icy tundra ?
Yeah I recall you did say that lol.
I'll probably end up blitzing through the main story for the point over this next week then if and when I have time I'd love to screw around more with the supports more and seeing the full roster of characters
One of my biggest issues with Fire Emblem is they tend to continously throw characters at you almost all the way up to the end of the game, and some of them its either totally pointless to use cause you get them way too late, or you only get to use them a very select few times lol.
You definitely don't need the kids. I only got Morgan and Owain.
Characters are a distraction to spread out your xp and items :p I also unequipped everyone not named Chrom or Robin
This feels odd to me too. I think it is kind of throwing you a bone if you let characters die though. Like, oh you let the only guy that can lockpick die? Here's another thief character.
The paralogues for the kids come out one by one as the pairs support level get to S
I guess that makes sense if you allow deaths lol. In some of the older games its sorta suicide to let your leveled up characters die anyway since they're so damn hard
Yeah I did start to figure that out. I just thought there would be more then 4 before that happened I guess?
Early to mid game I enjoy using Anna as a Healer/utility because I don't have to worry about her in an open area. But even that usefulness gets shadowed later on by just pure numbers
But yeah I guess the "Weird" part of this game is with grinding being possible, then the whole "support, matchmaker, child soldier breeder, Waifu" thing going on its sorta like.... what you want out of the game?
Cause its super easy to make the game super easy, but then the story becomes almost trivial?
(was actually her critting with a Killing Edge that got me past Ch 11)
I mean I guess thats what the harder difficulties are for, but even then...idk.
Yeh you can make the game trivial if you want
I actually read about my Chrom Robin strat as how people beat insanity lol
Just seems like a battle of leveling and grinding for levels / ideal character layouts vs OVER leveling and making the game too easy

.I like the game I'm just so hard coded with the GBA/gc titles
No grinding, minimal experience
I had a hell of a time even with rewind and save states
I would not consider myself bad at video games... but I'm definitely bad at fire emblem lmao
I abused the arena "some" but I guess I just needed to sit there and grind like there was no tomorrow
I'm excited to try Sacred Stones and Three Houses.
I kinda like the vibe of the plot in Blazing Blade a bit more than Awakening. Feels more gritty/less cheesey.
IDK wtf is going on with Priscilla and Raven though... that was jarring
I'm excited to try Sacred Stones and Three Houses. But, I also need to finish P3R (and then probably play it again on NG+), and I want to play through PSIV, Front Mission 1-3, etc.
Yeah FE7 has a pretty good pace / pretty like "oh shit" story that moves along and is definitely...not super cheery? It has a few silly moments but for the most part yeah
FE8 is more of the same, but due to grinding its really not as hard. I liked it a bit more as a "casual game to play that didn't make me want to rage quit"
I liked Lynn/Eliwood/Hector more though as your main set of characters
I don't really know how they do the grinding in SS/Three Houses - but I would have to imagine it is something in between how easy it is to overlevel in Awakening and how it is harder (or not available) in older titles
I really liked Lynn during her story but she is kinda annoying in Eliwoods story lol
Also, my Lynn has like zero defense.
I gotta be really careful with her when I use her
People online are kinda negative about Hector but mine is a freaking beast - even with just iron axe.
Yeah I felt like on my more recent playthrough the game really was manageable up until the very last boss then I was just like "WTF"
But I think I touched on that.
It’s been a few years since I played Three Houses, but from what I remember grinding in battles isn’t too much of a thing as characters gain stats/promotions in the classroom.
Also, Three Houses isn’t particularly difficult from what I remember. There’s more of a focus on story and character building
I haven't had a single kiddo not pretty easily outclass any of the parents so far - as long as you're willing to put in the time to build the relationships, play and beat the prologues, and then subsequently level them up, you end up with a team of world-ending destroyers. It's probably only really necessary in Lunatic, but it's been fun for me. I've got my last Prologue in 14 I'm about to play ||there's so many enemy units in this one of you don't pick a side||, and then I'm going to take my team of children and trivialize the rest of the game.
Also, I couldn't get the DLC to work in Azahar, so I've been doing all this without the Gold or Experience bonus levels.
I rescued the child in P 14 but forgot what the prize was at the end of searching for the mirage.
It's not worth it lol, save the child, kill the boss and move on 😂
|| It's the goddess staff ||
Good catch, I meant Paralogue 13, the one ||with the two opposing armies and the Tagul child||
Ahh, yeh not there yet, still figuring out who I want to pair her with
Paralogue 14 wasn't too bad, but that ||Goddess Staff|| rules
which won't matter cus they aren't going to be on the A team anyway.....but must have all za kids
Yep, ||Nah and Yarne|| won't make the A-Team, but gotta catch 'em all!
Alright, I'm starting to think the ||Frederick and Panne, and subsequently Yarne|| relationship and dialogue might be some of the best in the game.
I ended up with a lot of the kid units on my final team, as their stats and abilities severally out classed their parents! Specifically Dragon Morgan literally couldn’t be damaged at all and neither could great knight Kjelle. Severra and Inigo were more vulnerable but still able to body everything. I hope this wins GotY cause I’d like to plan even better and play on a harder difficulty 🤣
I just wanna make sure I get my damn point lol
If I decide to have more fun with it later is a different story
You can absolutely do it without the children units though, my first play through of the game back in the day I hardly used any of them!
I picked up Lucina and Cynthia last night. How much further down the rabbit hole I want to go with this particular playthrough is TBD
Dang Morgan!
Lol yeah I just did ||Yarne's|| last night. Lots of fun with having ||Nah|| knowing Sol. Walled everything.
It's a fun map. Also, if you decide to fight both armies, you get like 20,000 gold!
Was that the crazy ||defend Tiki one?||
Lucina has been a mainstay for me as soon as she showed up, Cynthia was pure garbo by comparison
No, that's Paralogue 17. Paralogue 11 is the one ||with all the Wyvern Lords and suspended bridges||
That one is indeed a wild one, though
There's kids? I beat the whole game never getting any of them. Other than Lucina which is story driven.
Yes, haha.
Every female unit has a corresponding child for when they hit S rank. Chrom and (male) Robin are exceptions.
Fates has it that the men are the determinant parent.
Robin's child, Morgan, is always opposite their own gender. Interestingly, this means female Morgan will always have a sibling, but the only way for male Morgan to have one is to marry ||Chrom||.
That seems icky lol
Icky?
Pushing through the story. I'm at chapter 18 I believe now. So I should be able to finish up by the end of the week without too much fuss. I do enjoy the game and would like to play the dlc/paralogues/get all the characters. I think younger me would have liked this game a lot.
Want to make sure I get wrapped up and get my 3/3 for this month too though, so I'll see if I have any time to pick at the rest of the content once I'm done with this and GotW.
This game does have me itching for more fire emblem though. Maybe not straight away, but
Just plough through the story and circle back to the other stuff, mang
Alright, got my first stat max out! Checks, she doubles everything.
Done! What a great game, sad it's over. This is an easy GOTY contender for me.
Also, zero chance I go back to playing this one without those HD textures
I'm on chapter 14 with four kids left to recruit. I can totally do this before April.
It helps that Lucina, Morgan and Severa turned out to be holy terrors
Doing some paralogue, midway through one of my weaker units die from a 7% hit
So I send in Donell to clear the rest of the map knowing full well that I will restart anyway
I ultimately ended up ignoring Lucina, but Severa and Morgan were destroyers for me as well. Owain and Kejelle were great as a pair, as were Inigo and Noire.
My final squad was basically all the kiddos, except Chrom, Sumira, Donnel, and Robin.
Yeah, I am basically ending up all kiddos on a field trip with Chrom and Robin chaperoning, lol
Hard not to lean into the kids, they pack such a mean punch
Aether on Lucina is just too good
Especially if you plan on skill inheritance, but even then, I think the stat boosts are bigger, maybe?
Yeah they are just starting out with higher base stats, is my understanding, so they are getting ahead of their parents quicker.
Yeah, higher starting stats and starting with more skills
Makes sense. I'm not sure what I want to give Miriel's kid, haha. No Galeforce, so I must think in this game about thinking and strategy.
I'm thinking Renewal or Dual Support+?
I have no idea, I didn't consider inheritance at all I just picked people that looked cute together. haha
Laurent? I went Dark Knight, Lifesteal is broken (not Galeforce broken, but close)
True! But he can get that on his own, right? I'm just wondering if it's worth it to take the time to give him something he naturally doesn't have access to.
You know, not sure if that's a class-specific skill or not, now that you mention it
I gave Counter to Kjelle, Noire and Cynthia for example
I never really used Counter, too busy killing to worry about counterattacks
I should have given it to Nah but I didn't realize she would be able to get Sol on her own, had Donnel pass it down
Ha! Fair, lol, I just didn't see amything better for those three's fathers.
Broken lol
If it wins GOTY, I might try min-maxing a Lunatic run
Gods, that's gonna be a slog
Fun slog, but still a slog
I'd probably run it again with the gay mod if it's allowed.
The what now?
A mod that lets anyone S rank anyone and kids still happen. (Adoption, ig? Magic?)
Gay Awakening, which is the best name for it
Ooh, interesting. Male Chrom and Male Robin already were better than anybody else
I've never played male Robin! Siblings Lucina and Morgan always made the most sense to me.
Would it work with the HD textures, though. Hmm, don't think I can go back to vanilla textures after doing HD this time
I don't think I've ever done female Robin. I should, P3P was best Persona 3.
Yep, it's listed as compatible iirc
It's always nice to play a game as a woman when you can tell it was written with them expecting you to play a guy. Just in the sense that nobody gets weird about you being a lady or whatever, if that makes sense. P3P dodged most of the same issues despite rewriting a lot.
Def playing Gay Awakening soon
Just check the spreadsheet of which bonds are written or not before deciding pairings, btw. It's a huge effort to get all combinations.
I did use gay awakening for this run
f/f relationships result in two kids which was not what I was expecting.
Lol yeah. All the kids in Awakening are determined by the mom, aside from Chrom and male Robin.
They'd have to make new characters to give m/m pairings kids.
Minor version differences are typically permitted, as long as your version isn't a total overhaul or randomizer or something
If it's basically the same game it's usually OK
anyone else think it's dumb that endgame makes all mages carry rexcalibur, negating the high RES of your pegasus units? Just me?
I'm enjoying the endgame otherwise
Chapter 21 was a lot of fun
The difficulty curve is a bit weird for this. In the early game (on Hard/Classic), I was struggling a bit and had to restart several times during chapter 5-8 or so trying to keep people alive when almost nobody could survive being left in range of more than one enemy in a round. But a corner seems to have been turned, and I've been cruising through the last few chapters (currently on 13). Getting the support ranks up so the main pairings are giving massive stat bonuses and frequent extra attacks is huge. Still might be cutting it close to finish within the month, but going to try.
@round mica just beat my first fire emblem game (awakening) for game of the month. Really enjoyed it! I played some of Three houses a while back but I think I enjoyed Awakening quite a bit more!
#1102540186790928415
I should look at timestamps, never mind
I won't delete just to keep you from wondering over a ghost ping. Apologies.
You got this!
That last battle is tough. Hard hitting enemies, reinforcements come every turn until the boss dies, and the boss itself is strong. The toughest part was ||getting Robin to land the final blow, my Chrom was Aethering the shit out of Grima||
I was actually going to ||have chrom do it but it wound up being Robin by accident||
Donnel involved himself
I'm surprised how often chrom was MVP
By endgame he was pretty useless for me
Lmao he made hero in Endgame just cuz he got paired with sully
My queen
Morgan was so strong in my playthrough he took care of the boss by himself in two turns lol. Beat them on a counterattack.
Then I got to choose who delivered the final blow—Chrom or MC
Lmao died on the first turn in lunatic
Lunatic is so hard
I think lunatic casual will be a nice experience
I can, like, let people die
Except Robin ahaha
Love this game, this has been the worst possible month for me to play it. GotX has successfully broadened my horizons once more and I hope it takes a GotY spot
Me too, just so I can play it again next year!
Can't believe this is something I can do now
I'm not even sure what it is you are doing lol
Og and remake at the same damn time
Turns out my Morgan with 49 Luck and Rightful King can't not proc Armsthrift. I might make him a Sage and give him the Goddess Staff. 👀
I have learned of the existence of Hammerne. Oh Morgaaaaan...!
I love that this being a GOTM has led people to want to explore other games in the series.
I just got to ch 25 of blazing blade this morning 🙂
The GBA Fire Emblem games rule
Also has a robust romhacking scene, lots of fun games to choose from
Yeah i'm creeping along here. Just got to ch 22. Didn't really get to play as much during the week as I wanted
Having not too much difficulty, had to go grind a bit after a rough spot. Hoping to beat it tonight or tomorrow
I am really enjoying it and would probably have tried to unlock all the kids and everything before beating it if I had more the a month to get through it
Armsthrift has no effect on staves and weapons that can be "used"; e.g using the Gradivus' healing effect will still cause the weapon to degrade.
Dreams are dead
So I've been plugging along on this one with battle animations turned off because they chug hard for me: is the Steam Deck actually powerful enough for 3DS emulation, or is there some setting I need to tweak?
I played with animations off too. But on a flip 2.
Also this game is too hard on the neurotransmitters for how long I put it off. I'm partway through but all the little decisions that don't necessarily have clear answers put the stress on the thinkbone
I'm doing a normal casual run right now, and whether I get through it or not, I might revisit this game in a more in-depth way for GotY. Tactics just strains my decision-making resources
Fire Emblem Awakening has issues. Check the settings in the pin.
Aye aye
Also have I been playing right refusing to use Frederick? I notice he seems to be the pre-promoted unit that's typically a poor investment for XP
All right. I did three of the four steps, but I'm going to assume I'm not using the Turnip driver thing because I'm not on Android/ARM
But let's see what improves
He's a poor investment for EXP but if you need to knock some heads in, he will still do the job. He's also a good bot to put on someone as support to provide stats.
Like, click him directly on top of another unit and pair up and he'll be a backup member. If you pick someone often enough and raise the rank (with or without S), the stats and benefits will rise.
Good point on using him for pair up. That's a tactical complexity I'm trying to get my head around still, but I'm sort of viewing it as a way to give a boost to weaker units that need training (looking at you early Sumia) or ensure a favored support pairing is getting relationship points (Sumia can have Chrom if she wants)
P much that, yes
Higher rank means they can invalidate an attack easier or just jump in and add damage, too
Or a way to emergency hide a severely injured unit I guess
Right. So I can simplify my gameplay by just using it for those specific purposes (train weak unit, force support, hide injured unit)
Yep. If you enjoy the writing, setting it up to see certain characters interacting directly via bonds is fun, too.
Also my avatar is +Skill/-Luck and idk if that's a Wrong Decision but all skill no fortune is a fun archetype
That, and Robin gets to use both swords and magic, so I decided to go with Skill over Magic for that reason. If I didn't value that versatility I might've just gone with Magic
I went with +Luck/-Resist. Which I thought I would regret but was still one of the tankiest units of the board.
I'm going to guess there's something to be said for being less susceptible to crits
Well. finished up tonight. Its definitely a bit different then classic fire emblem but I really enjoyed it
That was always how I treated pre-promotes too, but it’s actually a bit more nuanced in a few ways.
- Getting through a tough early game mission without having to strategize perfectly or restart multiple times is valuable regardless of its effect on long-term XP.
- The experience formula helps lower level characters catch up. Missing a few kills where you needed to use a Jaegen has a negligible long term impact as long as you’re using others at least some of the time.
- New characters are constantly arriving, and in many cases are better than existing ones. XP that goes to a character you bench after 10 chapters is “wasted” whether or not they’re a pre-promote. And the pre-promote probably helped you substantially, whereas carefully feeding kills to a mediocre early-game archer makes things harder for you.
- In more recent games, it’s possible to get in extra battles, so XP is not a limited resource.
Fair points all
I benched Fred anyway
Thor really just lets you do whatever huh 💀
Yes, it does. Idk what they were thinking with those triggers though
Okay, I'm at chapter 20 and I have the 31st off. Despite such a busy month, I've got this in the bag!
Chapter 21/22: Holy shit, this scene is intense when you're ||Lucina's|| mother.
Totally seems like a cannon event.
I'm trying but I'm struggling. This game is fun but it also slams my neurotransmitters really hard and I don't think I'm going to beat it in time
||It doesn't help that my NP was like "insurance isn't going to ask for a prior auth" on a med where the sampler pack was actually helping and oop insurance wants a prior auth. Every single time she says "insurance isn't going to ask for a prior auth"||
But really, this game just slams you with hundreds of decisions that don't have clear answers and that is the exact kind of puzzle that wrings my brain dry
I'm not sure any of the decisions actually matter.
Yeah so not to ahem, assume anything about gay, but, I can see how lots of the micro decisions on who to use, who to level, what class to promote too, when to use higher ranked weapons, etc, etc, etc, all those millions of TINY decisions can start to add up and get a little insane
With that said my biggest hangup was wanting to build more supports, collect more children, and have a super soldier army for the last few battles
However as it was getting so close to the end of month i had to sorta nix that, just make sure I got Morgan, and then move on.
I had to do a little grinding (nothing crazy) on a few of my weaker-but-still-promoted-and-used-often, units to bolster up my team around stage 20 but then was at a good level and the last handful of chapters pick up the pace a bit
Sorry bored at work and now I'm rambling but - Just my .02 cents,
Supports/the characters/marriage/etc with the ability of grinding definitely focus shifts the game. I feel like its still really fun, but super accessible and fun in a "different" way. I feel like the GBA titles that I'm familiar with (mostly 7) and the OG Fire Emblem, is more about limited experience points, picking a good team, and soldering through the game.
All in all glad to play it and although it felt "different" then the fire emblems I'm used to I really liked it, and am definitely wanting more fire emblem.
Milkman is right. But it isn't even just that, it's the blow-by-blow decisions in fights. Even the relatively easy decisions add up. Making decisions is one of my specific issues, so this game is especially challenging even when the actual difficulty level is not that punishing
Yeah I want to beat this but it's just really pushing hard against my specific weak spots, especially with the med issues atm
Like I can see what people like about it, but I just don't have the ability to beat this game in a timely fashion. I am likely to go back and do it if it wins a GotY slot though, which seems likely enough. I can tell it's a Good Game
I'll be surprised if this doesn't at least win a GOTY category, but we only just finished the first three months of the year, so who knows!
There are quite a few categories, so we'd need some really sick contenders this year for it not to get one. Then again, Earthbound managed to not win a category for this year's list, so you're right, who knows
The struggle with FE games in general is wanting to always make the perfect decision is time consuming and uncertain - and there are a lot of items/characters/levels etc. that you can miss.
Awakening is nice since you can freely overgrind and those decisions don't affect you being able to crush the game, but then you always have in the back of your mind.... "ugh I didn't get that brave sword on chapter x" or whatever.
If you already have a point this momth just play what you can for the next few days. I somewhat can understand this but if you just sorta turtle up behind your strongest few units and play defensively, its not too bad.
If you can figure out dlc a few (2-3) hour long grinding sessions can make the game pretty easy so I wouldn't stress so much about all the small stuff
Honestly after playing this game on og hardware, and playing fe7 and sacred stones with save states available. I've spoiled myself lol. The games get really frustrating when you hit a stage you just CAN'T clear without losing a character.
Without the dlc or grinding I would have found this game to have a few hard stop levels for me as a kid right around stage 10 and stage 20
ya i remember getting frustrated around stage 10 i think?
Without the dlc i woul dhave just spent more time with reeking boxes though 🙂
Restarting a stage 1-2 times and then beating it? Fun challenge
My grind knows no bounds
Restarting a stage 6 times and still can't beat it?
Rage quit

You can see why I don't like souls games lmao
Blazing Blade is way more frustrating though with fog of war, reinforcements, and how annoying it is to recruit some characters or keep enemies from stealing shit out of chests
Yes, but, Hear me out
Thats just fire emblem lol
Even in this game they put certain recruitables or theives/chests in precarious locations to force aggressive playstyles in those instances
Yes, but, hear me out
I've got Chrom riding Sumia into battle and she's got Galeforce and she's they're both 2x the level of any enemy on the map 🙂
Not going to be able to finish in time 🙇♂️
I only had time to hammer through the last 5-6 stages this weekend cause the wife came down with a nasty cold lol
So we did basically nothing except grab thai takeout on Saturday and she sat in the car while I ran in the grocery store for about 15 minutes lol.
Yeh, too many family events this month, my weekends were shot
Thats me most weekends lol
put. it. by. the. toilet. lol
i finished last 5 missions in a hotel bed and ended up staying up until like 2AM
honestly feel like i need to redo them because i was so tired
i don't think my memory retention was at its peak for me to absorb the story
I mean the story itself wasn't earth shattering but it felt well done and the characters were pretty neat
I defintetly thought you meant more plot based decisions. My b.
That too 😂
I had time this month, just not fortune or executive function on my side
Well I may not finish this for GotM but I'm definitely finishing the game. It has been a blast and I'm gonna be trying out more entries in the series
I actually ended up copying and zipping up the save file for this, I liked it so much.
If anyone wants to see later.
26x in Blazing Blade is officially the most annoying chapter of either Fire Emblem I've played so far
Thanks! I got it just before or in the early stages of COVID before the prices went insane, brand new for 120 euros. Sounds like insanity now. I have a regular 3DSXL but vastly prefer this model.
Very cool, I've got an Animal Crossing New Leaf and Hyrule Shield 2DSXL that I adore. I agree it's a better footprint with better weight balance than other models.
Oh, I just looked up the Zelda one and it looks insanely cool. Not even gonna look up prices for it now though, I don't fancy a heart attack 😅
I collect 3DS and 2DS systems, thankfully all before COVID blew it all up.
The teal Animal Crossing and Hyrule Shield are 2DS
zelda editions 👀
It's my favorite series, have to rep
There's four of 'em up top, couple of monster hunters, couple of Pokemon, Animal Crossing, and Fire Emblem
Ooh, and the white Vita is Gundam
Not me getting ignored for also beating on my 2dsxl lol

I don't recognize this one. what edition is this?
white N3ds with mon hun plates
You're right, and the black and teal one no less!
It's a New 3DS, the one with replacable plates. Was a Pokemon 20th Anniversary Edition, now is MonHun
Yeah I got it cheap when the switch was new and I got my Galaxy N3ds xl for $99 on ebay CIB lol
It was like $50 for the n2ds with a busted screen
so I replaced the screen myself
that's monster hunter? why does that symbol look so much like hyrule?
My Galaxy 3DS is the only one I actually play, since it was also cheap
It's from Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate, pretty sure. You are corret, it does look very Hyrule-ish
the monster symbols also give off the same vibes as the runes from wind waker or botw
someone copied someone's homework
probably. Those are just the "stylized, in world, mini depictions" of the monsters
They all have like a....icon as if someone in the world of Mon Hun drew them
So those are their "icons"
The icons are brightly colored, where normally they would not be. They would be either white or black, depending on the background, or realized colors like World/Rise/Wilds
Looks like I'm going to come up a bit short on finishing this before the deadline -- I'm on chapter 19 and still need to work today. But definitely going to wrap up soon, imaginary point or no.
Probably just that youve reached max friendship?
Or maybe children
If you had female lucina and married chrom and Lucina/Morgan are sisters and their kids I bet that is what it means
Perhaps, though it's there for Chrom on any other potential children too. I had assumed it was a way to swap between different versions but I don't see a way to interact with the icon.
Ah well!
I'm definitely coming back to this game in the future.
Yeah if I was really feeling zesty I could have played a few hours of this last night just to build supports and do some paralogues
Now that it isn't up for a point anymore, here's my save file for the Chapter 21/22 scene if anyone would like. It just felt crazy personal given the choices I made.
