RK3576 for Pro incoming?

the RK35xx chip line actually has dedicated NPU for AI tasks and not clogging up the CPU, so it is a feature for sure

crude knoll

ok now THIS is better

Damn that looks pretty decent. However, looked like most of those games were playing at native res. So while it can play those games from Vita/PS2/GC, it may be unable to upscale them.

#

But I want to get one anyway, for nothing else but to support Gamma.

#

Hopefully it’s priced well.

Is it me or do both the 720p and 1080p screens look below average? The Pro screen looks very blue tinted and the 720p screen looks under saturated , at least performance seems decent on the Pro

This might be a easy pass

# quick cloak Is AI a feature really though? Funny to advertise AI with all the current sentim...

I'm gonna assume you're a native english speaker and live in a native english speaking country, or western country influenced heavily by the US. For your information, in asia AI does offer actual useful things and not just creating meme and funny videos. There's no negative sentiment toward AI like the west. Talking language translation alone, AI does offer contextual and live translation that's more useful than the past machine translation. In diverse region such as south east asia, with free movement and so many languages, these are useful and being used by regular people almost everyday

quick cloak
#

Yeah AI translation been around for a while

#

The only way they could possibly make the RG Vita Pro look worse is by showcasing built-in AI conversation maker

#

But I guess since this device isn't really for playing games and is more for screwing around with that makes sense

devout plinth
#

aside from gaming, I really like the RK35XX line. I'm a small business owner and I do have some AI business tools that run on RK35XX boards which are cheap and accessible rather than expensive nvidia stuff so I might be bias

quick cloak
#

It's nice to have input from the non-gaming space for this chipset

#

Being relatively unknown and what not

devout plinth
#

I have a tool that can count inventory from cctv camera feed that saves me so much time and effort, another tool can estimate customer traffic based on public data and local camera feed (we sell ice cream and cold drinks near the beach) so we can prepare ahead and allocate staff

#

AI is just a tool

quick cloak
#

AI is a tool

lofty kestrel

looks pretty good, ngl

#

i have a nephew that would probably love this for pokemon and rpg shit. i wonder how winlator performs

The best you can hope for on the RG-VITA is mild PS2 and GameCube Emulation. Metal Slug 3D, Viewtiful Joe, Zelda Wind Waker, Gotcha Force, Wario World, Pikmin 1&2 and Go Go Hypergrind should be playable on this but I'll definitely be testing.

sour olive
#

The best you can hope for the RG Vita is a high price

teal sonnet

Once I get my hands on this handheld of course...

RG 3DS when?

silver idol
#

My opinion personally is I'm indifferent to AI.

There are better devices for AI than an underpowered gaming handheld

silver idol
#

People have found pretty creative ways to use AI.

blazing bough

I'd definitely love to learn more about this. @blazing bough

blazing bough

I just hear it from my dad back home

#

Fortune Telling AI is something that gets brought up lol

blazing bough
#

It's something that you get into

silver idol
#

I've seen AI used for as a tool in Animation.

blazing bough
#

So AI is the thing that makes it "easier" for most people

Two sd card slots are a bit enticing ngl

Into the Spiderverse and in between Animation are two examples off the top of my head.

#

@blazing bough An Internet of things?

blazing bough

So the negatives of AI taking jobs away and art stuff like that (both of which I agree needs regulation) isn't something that gets people attention

silver idol

That's just not the public sentiment in most places I've been in South East Asia

#

on more thing to consider is there're a lot more self employed and small family business than corporate salaried people in asia

#

AI is a tool to make works easier and mostly have very little negative impact

#

data processing tools run locally so chips that have NPU like RK35XX line are quite popular, unlike the west where everything is online subscription

#

also many tools are marketed as tools and not AI, so many people are using AI without knowing it's AIfrog_shrug

Lol, everyone's confusion just now illustrates my point and I wasn't asking if other people had confirmed it

lofty kestrel
#

it was comfirmed -weeks ago- when Joey talked about his test unit and was immediately flamed/threatened by anbernic

#

most reviewers have one and are legally bound to not talk about it atm

inner parrot
#

Yeah, just thought Anbernic would have gone ahead and confirmed it by now

lofty kestrel

that's their own business. it probably doesn't bother them that a small english-speaking discord of handheld nerds already know

inner parrot
lofty kestrel
#

it's all cool. it -is- silly marketing that they use a lot of buildup prereveal time.

inner parrot
#

I'm also remembering back when it seemed like Anbernic was pumping out new devices like every month

#

I think really I'm just hoping they will do more Linux friendly devices going forward - all the XX ones weren't really an improvement over the rk3566, though they had some interesting designs

#

At least the video confirmed dual boot

lofty kestrel
#

people were -salty- about the rg353v/m/p and sold them quickly.

#

but it's okay. the rgDS exists.

undone hemlock
#

Oh and gamma also confirmed it

#

Speaking of knulli, RGDS is actually pretty far

inner parrot
#

Mainly I think I'm just hoping they carry the chipset forward for more dual boot devices going forward, so eager for more official confirmation from Anbernic on chipset and guess actually eager for them to announce more devices with it... but still waiting for this first one 😅

#

Yeah, I've been tempted to get an RG DS, but I already have Thor and not sure my kids need or would appreciate a dual screen device >_>

undone hemlock
#

The Rocknix nightly is also pretty stable

inner parrot
#

Yeah, saw a lot of good development on it

untold hazel
#

It looks worse than I anticipated worry_froge

floral vessel
#

There are already better devices for using Portmaster than the RK3576*

#

I don't know why they decided to go with dual OS again

atomic flare
floral vessel
#

It's like the evolution of the rg353xx in 2026

#

People will simply end up staying on gammaOS Next for its sleep mode and the library android

inner parrot
#

Yeah, that's essentially all I'm hoping it will be is an evolution of the XX line - if they price it appropriately, having budget dual boot devices that can do some PS2 would actually be pretty cool

floral vessel
inner parrot
#

ie I saw the XX devices as a step backwards from the rk3566 devices in several ways, so hoping this starts a new step forward

inner parrot
floral vessel
#

The XX line is the entry-level range

inner parrot
#

Really it all comes down to how they price these - of course there's better devices out there - I also have several Retroid sm8250 devices and Ayn Thor (sm8550), but will they price these appropriately for the performance level/what they offer

floral vessel
#

They're playing with us, claiming their AI is very good, so the price would be almost the same as an RG Slide with a T820

inner parrot
#

RG Slide is actually one I wish had been Linux friendly

#

Almost got it anyway

#

I had an Xperia Play back in the day

#

Anbernic devices are more about nostalgia for me than being the best device 😅

floral vessel
#

If you pay more attention to the form factor, yes

floral vessel
#

If you like collecting them, then that's another story doggylol

inner parrot
#

Yeah, I'm not thinking these devices will be worth repairing beyond their life... and considering I just admitted I have several rk3566 devices, I may be somewhat guilty on the collecting bit 😅

floral vessel
#

Sega and N SP hits you so hard 🔥

inner parrot
#

Yeah, RG Arc was actually my favorite device for quite some time - love the Sega feel and might still be my favorite d-pad

floral vessel
#

I also like that directional pad, that's why I also bought the GameSir Nova 2 Lite for my mobile and PC

Nah, they're what my RG Arc uses now, just wanted a clean picture

worn topaz
#

phew

inner parrot
#

Sadly the Vita doesn't have as much nostalgia for me, especially without the PlayStation glyphs on the buttons >_>

#

But curious about dual boot on the new chipset - trying to keep expectations appropriately low on the chipset though and hopefully the price matches

#

But guessing the price will be a bit above where people want it to be, so been on the fence so far

RG Vita

#

More like RG Vitapointment

floral vessel
#

It all comes down to the hardware, and both the regular and pro versions have already proven to be disappointing

#

Another console with a lot of hype surrounding its release, just like Slide

#

At least Slide showed he could play on his original console, which would be the PSP Go

sour olive
#

At least the Slide was decently powerful

undone hemlock
#

I’m wondering how much of the PS2 library this will do

sour olive
#

476H better

undone hemlock
#

Well no shit

floral vessel

for ps2 i recommend better rp4p

in case anbernic 557 or line "7"

undone hemlock

That OLED is trash

sour olive
#

Nice Try Rad

floral vessel
#

oled vs ips mariodead

#

We can add screen burn-in to oled meme

undone hemlock
#

Uh huh

sour olive
#

OLED better

#

Your screenshots don't help much

#

Especially since I'm looking at them through an OLED screen

worn topaz
#

it's just not possible for a single backlight ips screen to come close to an oled in contrast

#

so i always find it funny when people swear that THIS ONE does

undone hemlock
#

The 476H is as close as you can get

worn topaz
#

(this one not being the 4.7in one in particular btw, just a generic statement)

sour olive
floral vessel
#

The most attractive feature of OLED is its ability to turn off pixels to save energy

inner parrot
floral vessel
#

But I think a Chinese console with an IPS display is decent as long as it's not TFT kek

#

in addition to the famous light leaks that some RG Cube models exhibited

#

The brand was heavily criticized when this came out

floral vessel
#

gameconsole take it or fix it

lone imp
#

hold on. hooooold on.... (looks at video again)

#

they fuckin did it. they gave it an HDMI-OUT. nice, clean 1080p screen-mirrored video.

floral vessel
#

yes docked kek

lone imp
#

this might be a good upgrade to my modded E6 Plus

#

i don't trust usb-to-hdmi. half the time, signal incompatibility just crashes whatever device you're trying to do it with. works fine on the win600 though. even if it crashes the driver, the system keeps going till you reset

floral vessel
lone imp
#

yeahhhh... that's more shit to carry though.

floral vessel
lone imp
#

they do make a powered miracast dongle that connects to hdmi, so you can just send hdmi straight to it, but it has the same latency as using a handheld wired to the tv and a 2.4ghz controller.

#

it's very 'pick your poison'

floral vessel
#

i have it and works really well even if you put a tablet

lone imp
#

i have one of those already. i also have the adapter version that sockets a normal hdmi cable

glacial gust
#

Dual SD card slot and a hdmi port? Can they rerelease a version of this with d8300 and a 120 Hz screen

floral vessel
glacial gust
#

I like the form factor

lone imp
#

i've been eyeing a d8300 rg477v in marketplace for 180, but i just can't be bothered. there's not enough on pc i'd rather play on a handheld over a laptop

floral vessel
#

dual SD is for TF1:Linux system TF2:Games

floral vessel
inner parrot
#

Yeah, seems like they don't generally bother with a second SD slot on Android-only devices, think some of that has to do with the IO on the SoC

lone imp
#

the d8300 is nice though. if all you want is raw power and better gpu drivers, dimensity has good mali tech

#

i wish malidrivers were unified and shared between mediatek, unisoc, and rockchip. that way they could all have directx 11 compatibility.

floral vessel
#

even d1100 rp4p is very capable

inner parrot
#

But I personally liked how the rk3566 devices had a ton of different IO - two USB C (different roles), two SD cards, and video out

glacial gust
sour olive
glacial gust
#

No dual card slot or hdmi port

floral vessel
#

You're asking for something complex in a mobile phone-oriented SoC

#

If the SoC doesn't have lines to supply a second slot, they can't install it; that's how PCBs work

sour olive
inner parrot
#

Yeah, the more phone-oriented SoC have more limited IO because phones just want the single USB C these days

#

Or maybe limited isn't the right word... combined vs broken out in capability

glacial gust
#

Feels like u just want to argue
Still not the same form factor and I want the hdmi output not the usb c

inner parrot
#

Yeah, I think they're just saying you're not going to get that on a Dimensity

floral vessel
#

You'll have to wait for a powerful, independent SoC to come out

#

allwinner or rockchip mostly

#

unisoc are for tablets

sour olive
#

You'll need to get a second hand Odin 2 Mini if you want a Powerful EDC device

#

RG Vita Pro could have been that device but Anbernic blew it

keen heath
#

Vita pro was never going to be that device

sour olive
#

Mangmi Air X are currently $96 on AliExpress with US Shipping so I got one

Anbernic has never been that guy

air X with SD662 It could be a more than decent option for many

sour olive
#

$96 for the Air X is great

sour olive
hallow willow
#

yeah the air x is solid for the price

floral vessel
#

If you look at the competition, like the Ayaneo Air Mini, its 3GB RAM variant significantly increases the price, while the Air has 4GB

sour olive
#

The RG577, 477M and 477V

#

All of them have the D8300

hallow willow
#

10 dollars is significant? tho price may have gone up since i last checked 😄

floral vessel
#

retail price ups

lone imp
#

rockchips are arm-pc SoC's. by default, they support full i/o, which is why the vitaPro will probably have powerUSB+dataUSB+hdmi+boot-microSD+data-MicroSD

#

with some hope, we'll get a light Ubuntu branch released that used the touchscreen.

floral vessel
#

The discussion was because they want a physical HDMI input and an extra TF slot

lone imp
#

input, eh.

#

are you looking to hook up a hub and an external hard drive? like... 4gb ram isn't good for video editing without a decent swap-drive/file NOT on the emmc

floral vessel
#

When we see more advanced Raspberry Pi chips in handheld consoles, we'll see those aberrations

lone imp
#

yeah...

#

i'm all for hooking my hdmi dongle to this and seeing IF it can record and encode 1080p mp4's. would be -something-, but i'd rather just do it on a used laptop... you can find 3500u lenovo's for 80usd with 16gb ram that are better for the task.

floral vessel
#

There we're talking about a different kind of architecture frog_victory

lone imp
#

how much do you want to blast out an rk3576 running at max clocks?

floral vessel
#

I don't really expect much from these types of SoCs

lone imp
#

lol

floral vessel
#

For fans who want to have Portmaster and Android at the same time, maybe

#

But rp5 and rpmini are already working on their Linux CFW

sour olive
#

There's cheaper devices that do both Android and Linux

lone imp
#

big question for vitaPro holders. does it have a fan/heatsink?

sour olive
#

It isn't anything special

lone imp
#

if fan/heatsink=yes, i'd be cool with throwing away money to see it implode while encoding some 2k footage.

#

It would be a great experiment in what not to do with the VitaPro

floral vessel
#

It's not better to use phones with 4nm SoCs?

keen heath
sour olive
#

They're high end for Dimensity

#

Which is what Anbernic releases since they don't do Snapdragon

lone imp
#

d8300 is like ryzen 4500u-tier power

keen heath
#

How’s it handle gamehub

lone imp
#

go look up some footage and see

#

youtube: dimensity 8300 gamehub

sour olive
#

It can do GameHub

keen heath
#

Cheers I’ll check that out and get my self familiar with the chip

sour olive
#

I feel like Anbernic will release a RG558 soon if we go by their release cycle from the previous years

keen heath
lone imp
#

this is basic research and critical thinking

floral vessel
#

I think a mini PC like the ROG Ally would be better

lone imp
#

#1374265867600400489 chat also has Evil Within and Sleeping dogs gameplay vids

sour olive
#

Dimensity Chipsets are pretty capable

floral vessel
#

If they had a dedicated graphics card, yes

sour olive
#

The AyaNeo Pocket Play is going to have a Dimensity 9300

#

So that's probably what the RG558 is going to have

floral vessel
#

I hope a brand comes along that does things right

lone imp
#

my metric when i look at 7-series anbernic devices is "do i have the time to spend on 7th gen games on break at work?" and usually the answer is -no-. I want to sit and read the news/manga/friend's discord and maybe do a single hunt in monster hunter or some sort of pickup-and-go game like Rocket League. Anything I want to play on a dimensity 1100/1200/8300, i can just do at home on my pc or on a laptop in less setup time.

floral vessel
#

you hit it

sour olive
#

You could play Monster Hunter Rise on it

keen heath

May consider that 477M

477M is great as long as you don't mind a 4:3 screen

We want portable power devices when ultimately we play more in family environments

sour olive

#

I want a portable powerhouse

floral vessel
#

damn frog_victory

sour olive
#

Great for up to Switch Emulation

#

Super Mario RPG Remake is nice on it

floral vessel
#

When the NS2/PS4 is emulated, will you want that one too?

sour olive
#

Well Duh

#

Assuming it's actually playable

lone imp
#

557 is probably best if you want switch/wii-u/vita/pc

keen heath
sour olive
#

Granted Sony are rumored to be doing their own Handheld so it really won't matter

#

Has anyone tried the new Xbox Emulator that just released?

#

I'm guessing Compatibility isn't great

#

But would be nice for Jet Set Radio Future

floral vessel
#

The excuse given for abandoning the Sony Vita was that the mobile market was already rising too much; these rumors are somewhat difficult to believe for a new handheld by sony

lone imp
#

xbox compatibilty is super flakey outside of xemu

sour olive
#

So like a Series S for PlayStation that you can also take anywhere

lone imp
#

cxbx-reloaded is dx9 and fast, but eh... been down that road. requires decompiling every iso

sour olive
#

Battery will probably last like 2 hours Max though

floral vessel
#

until they release something in the cloud like the portal

sour olive
#

An OLED Portal is rumored to be released this year

lone imp
#

sony fans will gobble it up fine

sour olive
#

I liked the Portal

#

It was pretty comfy and as long as you had a good Internet connection, it played pretty well

#

It's definitely not for everyone though

lone imp
#

i've seen at least three xbox allies out in the wild now. fans with xbox accounts are eating that shit up regardless of not owning games anymore

sour olive
#

Xbox Allies are pretty good for the price

#

The white one was on sale for $480 on Amazon a few weeks ago

floral vessel
#

That's it, tell those battery-guzzling who's rules kek

sour olive
#

I mean

#

You'll get the same battery drain on Android using GameHub

floral vessel
#

even if you must keep the native system in background?

#

Change your leaves, but never lose your roots

floral vessel
#

Since VMs create a significant thermal and process throttling, it's better to have multiple devices

#

Don't expect an all-in-one solution

sour olive
#

No one is expecting an all in one solution though

floral vessel
#

but you want a powerhorse that can move everything

lone imp
#

sounds pretty boring

sour olive
#

I want a device that's plenty capable

#

People aren't buying Odin 3 just to play NES Games on it

lone imp
#

you do not understand the peak basedness of retrogaming autism, where people piled on the ktr1 just because it was a perfect gba option

keen heath
#

I’d still love a ktr1

#

I’ll have my end game gba device one day

floral vessel

ktr1 is really gem with that famous sd845

floral vessel

Anbernic seems to have thrown in the towel on devices like this

sour olive
#

I don't think the Win600 did well to begin with

floral vessel

he had rivals who were better positioned

#

Meanwhile, Ayaneo wants to focus on mini PCs with the AM devices

sour olive
#

I do think a cheaper PC Handheld meant for Emulation and Light PC Gaming could do well if priced correctly

#

Though that's going to be difficult with the current RAM and SSD shortages

floral vessel
#

yeah IA broken the rules about prices

#

And pc handhelds have the problem of mostly using soldered RAM

#

And that's crucial if you want to expand your video memory

Win600 doesn't

But it's also the Win600

Linux can only carry this dumpster fire so far

To be fair, I don't really care whether either of these devices can play Vita or not - it's not like I don't have options to emulate Vita games if I want to emulate Vita games. It's just amusing that Anbernic copied the Vita look (as have many other device manufacturers) and even the Vita name for such a weak device.

#

And to be honest, if I want a good device that runs Linux ... well, my Steam Deck is right there. 🙃

I love getting my Steam Deck out of my pants pocket to play Stellaris in the queue at McDonald's

Until you get to year 2400, then it's molasses

I feel every game plays out the same after a while too. And the map painting isn't as satisfying as their other games.

And the lore is too all over the place. Pick a tone and stick to it.

I haven't played it lately but I played it through a couple major updates, and yeah, I can relate to some of that as well

#

I enjoyed playing on console for a while too

Luminous Arc Infinity I know is a descendent of an Srpg series that started on DS(played the first two). Bullet Girls is a slutty squad shooter like Earth Defense Force or Left 4 Dead where damage destroys your clothing down to nothing... you can find this all out yourself though. that's a huge list of games

IA/VT Colorful and Miracle Girls Festival are fun.

sadly the only hunter games are Toukiden HD 1&2, Attack on Titan, and Freedom Wars. MH Frontier G and God Eater HD 1&2 never made it to full compatibility

Vita3K on a decent device plays Borderlands 2 better than the actual Vita did.

Only "bad" thing about the Vita version on emulation is that you'll still be missing some DLC. Vita only got the first two DLC expansions.

#

... and while I love me some EXPLOSIONS, not having the Tiny Tina DLC is a sad omission.

oh right... that game with Dante's Inferno vibes everywhere
