#Mega Man Zero

I swear I tried the triple rod đ¤Ą
ah well, it's beaten
thank God for save states
Game was a blast until that final boss
Final boss is not super hard, but he has a single move that deals half your hp
personally I think he is much easier than sigma in x123
My favorite boss was probably the blob/devil one. Nice series throwback, not overly annoying.
smdh they misspelled baby mode
Well, I think I goofed with my S rank run. Probably just going to have to do another full run later
I forgot that not getting enpugh points for S rank will affect the next stage, not the current stage end ranking. I went through one and got 93 points, but it still said S rank, so I kept going. The next stage said I had an A rank, even though I had 97 points. Ensue the forehead slap
I remembered the 'staggered' rank loss was a thing for later games (2 and 3) with S ranking the easy intro and heading straight to the bosses with good EX skills to get those while your rank was still high to aquire them
Yeah it's cumulative
I mean, it's an average
If your every state average drops bellow 95, you drop a rank
TĂ´ make it go up, the average needs to go up, which is super hard since you're in the 90's
Just started ZX and did the first boss mission and âŚ
I donât understand how I scored a level 3 victory with having been hit so many times
(Also I wish theyâd let you look like X over Zero lol)
They do if you finish the game and go new game plus, I believe. I used it a lot and it's my go-to choice for the double shot. There's a secret model Ox as well. It was a cool bonus for having MMZ3 and MMZ4 carts back in the day.
Ahhh. Wonder how that works on switch collection
If it's an average score one 93 shouldn't drop me that much since I've gotten a lot of 95 to 99's
95 is already A iirc
it's 96 and up that is S-rank
not sure
level is about not hitting the "weakspot"
higher level victory (4), is by not hitting the weakspot at all
it only really matters when fighting pseudoroids, higher level means higher energy bar for that biometal
beating the game allows you to use ||Model X|| standalone again
you can just go in the doors that would need the cartridges
to get Model Ox, you need to beat ||Zero|| on the secret area
and do the sidequest
You're right. My scores were all 96 and higher up to now. My bad
oh my bad I read "look like zero over X" đ
also good on him for playing ZX
bad on him for not playing zero234 before đŤ
âŚIve already beaten 234
damn this month?
No. I dont ever need to replay these games again lol. Played them for a second time in 2021
Maybe z3 again, but i dont really care for 1/2/4
Like theyâre good games but if I want my mega fix ill play classic or x2
unreal takes on this blessed day
I rather play X3 and ZX at best
but zero234 are always on my list
not mm3 lmao
I think I said this when i was talking about my rankings
I can take or leave the zero plot.
I donât think its all that deep/impressive.
Writing a âeveryone dies and its all depressingâ is hard to nail and only like two story beats in z1-4 ever hit for me
Always felt like the push for X to be âgritty and cooler megamanâ turned up a few notches
(But thats just my experience both times I played through the series)
Fun gameplay tho
I can attest that I do have some additional push back to the story because I do think its impossible to separate Keiji vocally wanting to make Zero the protagonist in the X series for so long and then z1 basically being ||HAHAHA X IS DEAD AND NOW HES THE BAD GUY MWUAHAHAHA|| as the overall attitude.
||even if at the end its âjk its not REALLY x||
I'll be moving onto Zero 2 tomorrow or the day after, depending on free time
Between the BoF and Mega Man series, Capcom really had a theme of the world is going to get progressively worse and less hospitable over time going
Also, thought i responded to this.
OH, interesting. I wonder how obvious weak spots are without looking then up.
Good to know
one of the models tells you the weakspot of every enemy on the second screen :D
I think that is very dismissive from how they wrote "everybody dies BUT IT'S HOPEFULL", not all depressing
and tbf Keiji is just a piece of shit and so I never read a word this man put down, doesn't matter if zero is good, X was never evil ||in the first stage the cyber elf has an X shape, c'mon||
we can just disagree on that tho, but the ending of zero was hopeful, not depressing, and keiji is worthless anyways so I didn't even know he was the one that pushed for zero to be the MC
ah yeah, he managed to make zero the MC on X7, and it's quite literally top 3 worse games in the franchise
X7 was mainly just because they didnât know how to adapt to 3D from 2D
no, it was because Keiji inafune said in an interview he "doesn't see 2d and 3d as inherently different, so they thought it would work the same"
so it was hubris that brought us that
Yeah, originally Zero was X when he was designing the X series. And Capcom said "Hey...you have to make Mega Man blue, my guy."
And thus started his villain arc to get his OC to be the main character
lmao what a double piece of shit
and after all that he made might n9
his shitty mega man clone, blue
even if he added his shitty zero clone as dlc after
lol. He's got great concepts, but he needs other devs to level out his wild development ideas
Like, Mno9 still having BLIND death drops
is such a WILD thing
yeah I said that having both the game and dlc, and It's quite ass
and like, I'm fine with death drops if the level design alludes to it, or warns the player, but these are straight, "off camera spikes"
but I LOVE mighty gunvolt burst
Me too
the "make your own boss weapon" mechanis is awesome
Yeah, I thought that was really cool
and its very similar to classic mm, I thought you would fuck with it lel
I will admit I know its dismissive. I tried my second playthrough to let go of the influence Keiji has on my opinions of the story, but they're too strong. At least for z1. I think he finally let go by halfway through z2 lol
However this is me at the end of Z4
Capcom handles RG franchise poorly too
ngl I am defensive because I love the story
entrusting the future to those that came after
I really fuck with it
even if it was more bitter than sweet, I always thought it was a hopefull ending
I will admit, it is very edgy in it's own right, but so sincere on how it ends, I can't help but feel like
that's what heroes do
Yeah. I think thats it. It was very edgy, and at the time, I was a teen and all my friends were starting to go through their edgy phase
that's what zero always was, even if more "edgy" in this incarnation lol
Probably just edge overload
too much edge đŹ
But the edge I think comes from Keiji's influence, not the character of zero himself
And I think thats the disconnect or thing holding me backj
cause you aren't wrong, its very sincere by the end
no I mean, zero even in X games was always a bit standoffish, on zero he is straight up rude, but I let it go somewhat
son of a bitch ruined it
I mean
I WOULD LIKE TO SAY THO AND I WIL NOT TAKE NO FOR AN ANSWER
Yeah
THE MECHANOLOID DESIGNS ARE FUCKING GOATED
ALL OF THEM
look at this bro
they cooked so fucking hard
LOL right I forgot those are mechanoloids as well
I thought you were talking about these guys
And I was gonna be like "I mean, yeah"
Robots are neat
LMAO NOOOOOOO
to be specific, the bosses from the zero zx series
I don't think they had a single bad design
at wrose it's middling
or feet
Hurricane?
from ZX
The repliroid of model H?
my bad, Hivolt
Hurricane is another boss lol
YEAH
this guy
that guy
Hivolt then
Great design
he is very cool
imo all of the bosses from ZX are
but you tell me as you fight them :D
I will. Excited to play these. I've touched every Mega Man game for at least an hour or two except ZX and ZXA, and then I think command mission.
and you can tell that model H is Harpuia, cuz Hivolt does the same combo he does
it's awesome
well, I hope you enjoy at at least a little bit
I was thinking it was similar
the models give the game such personality, that just changing elements doesn't
btw I don't know if you know this
you already have model H right
you can do the harpuia combo
I think I'll like it. I like that missions aren't ranked, but the bosses have ranks. Kinda makes the lead up more enjoyable for me.
by using sword one, sword two, sword one again
it throws a lil shockwave out
and if you know how, it oneshots a boss
I haven't played around with it. It was 1:30 am so I needed to get to sleep
yeah you can relax on the mission and focus on the boss
Yeah. While I can appreciate that design for people who like the challenge. I'd rather enjoy the level, explore and try and find secrts without worrying about time or getting hit
and then go try to wail on a boss
But so far, exploring has been fun. Found a sub-tank, found a life extender.
ah yeah, also, always remember the overdrive feature
it can actually melt bosses much harder than on zero
which already melts bosses lel
I remember people saying the map in ZX was annoying, but I don't find it that bad so far
there are 2 instances that are ass
Is this unlocked from the beginning or does it unlock through the story?
the rest, old fashioned exploration will lead the mthere
it's the green bar on the biometal
zx doesn't have it
it's unlocked from the beggining
it's basically a devil trigger feature
Ah, that makes sense. So test it out on model H
you deal A TON of elemental damage when it's on
but disables if you take damage, unlike DT
like, when you see a opening, toggle it, combo, and leave
the bar also gives you some features on charge attacks, if you have it
Okay cool. Good to know.
like model H sends a little tornado I think
or an elec ball
zx has a bunch of tech
I'll bother you later with it
lel
Not surprising since Z games have that built in
so makes sense to continue that kind of inclusion
btw vent and aile have different movesets for the biometals
so
there is that
||aile is the cannon character tho||
even if for all intents and purposes it doesn't matter lel
OhâŚ
WellâŚ.shit
(I prefer canons)
WaitâŚare there different stories completely per character?
WAIT CANON AS IN LORE
Not like an arm cannon
YEAH DAWG NOT ARM CANNON LOL
MODEL X IS THE SAME FOR BOTH LMAO
i played the tutorial stage and nearly died on the first boss because i had no idea how to use the sword
this is gonna go poorly for me
immediatly go into the options menu and change the attack mode option please
to type B or C
type A ais literally the worst lmao
iâll give that a shot, thanks!
this one
That would be a sick server emoji set
I am remapping buttons I don't care anymore.
Y remapped as R for blade. X is turbo for rapid fire. This seems to be working
you using facebuttons for everything?
Except dash
Still have r for charging blade while shooting/jumping I suppose
did ya try R being just subweapon instead of switching or a+r?
Oh yeah I forgot to mention, they're on B setting where they're separate
ah nice
Having the elemental weaknesses make such a difference in the boss fights, fighting Fafnir went down so fast!
yeah it melts them it's so unfair lmao
it's the difference between 10 second kill and a minute
Omg finally beat Leviathan, brutal.
Two missions left, and then I presume a final mission?
imo the most annoying of the 4
She wasnât difficult per se, just the moveset and floaty water jumps
and the spikes lmao
charged fire saber puts her down quick, but if you loop wrong, she swins up and it's annoying as hell
tfw I run into trouble on the first real boss. Anyone got any tips for just like... getting my feet under me in this one
It starts alright-ish. And then stays ok for the next little while. But then you have to find specific doors that require a specific key to open to progress. Some are in sort of out of the way locations that you find after a bunch of boring backtracking. Having 'hardpoint' checkpoints you could easily teleport to outside of those areas woukd have reduced the annoyance friction. It was mostly an annoying pacing interruption issue that I feel they addressed well in ZXA
Which version? If the collection, take advantage of the autosave and just practice the fight. If an emulator, same deal. It's not too bad and goes down fast once you figure out the patterns
Fair enough
Outside of equipping the right element for the right boss, there aren't really any shortcuts for people new to the gane to take. Boss melting strats are usually for people fairly familiar with the game. So fundamentals are key
Even the shield + single sword slash strats are deceptively tough since you need to know where to stand, how to bait the right attack, and then when to let up since you can die so easily yourself still
Yeah, fundamentals are the thing I'm wondering about
The stages are generally short, so if you have decent enough reflexes or skills in 2d games anyone can do better than they might assume in this with some repetition of sections after autosave/state save points
Most of the rep for difficulty comes from having to do the whole stage well from start to finish on a gba. Modern features sand a lot of those edges down
Geez, the hardest part of this game was the fact that it was on the GBA
Having to hold a button every time I want to deploy the secondary got really crampy really fast - the SP was a poor choice
@devout saddle
Oh boy, as soon as I learned I could repair biometals this game SKYROCKETED IN FUN
I donât need to worry about anything in boss fights anymore except styling on then and stuff.
(Like I dont think I LOVE the weakpoint thing because Lurre was apparently weak in her head and then the inside of the fish mouth)
But since its not required and only more for skipping spending crystals, Im not afraid to just play around and overdrive and stuff
Having a great time with ZX
There are settings to make R the primary button for your secondary attack, or have R make your main attack button switch between the 2 weapons you've chosen
I liked how the weak point system helped me do more damage against tough bosses when I started, but then the extra challenge of learning to avoid hitting them as I got better wasa nice wrinkle
Just tried Aztec Falcon again. Apparently I am going to have to expand my ideas about what an "opening" is.
OK, apparently this guy is actually intended to be a brutal introduction whose openings are not obvious
@sonic vapor https://megaman.retropixel.net/mmz/1/bosses.php
Going back to the first stage area and grinding your weapons on the spider nests is a valid strat. That area is available until after the elephant boss fight
Grinding outside of a mission doesn't affect ranking
I can charge both my gun and my saber now at least
The big L2 charge with the buster helps with damage output. Sword charge has great range
I just clung to the far wall and took cheap charged potshots, biggest learning curve after that was climbing up and jumping well clear when he crossed to the closer side of the room.
My own general strat boils down to staying on the opposite side of the screen as much as possible. It's an early knowledge check fight for understanding spacing with emphasis on mobility to avoid attacks
Right, I can grasp avoiding Aztec Falcon's attacks just fine. It's finding room to counterattack that's all the problem.
And that's the knowledge check
Stuff like choosing your shots while he's doing the slow, standing 3 shot volley at you depending on whether it's a standing or kneeling shot. Jumping at the wall when he does his middle of the screen attack, then wall jumping back at him to get over the lightning, get a sword hit in, then backing off to see what he does next
charge saber is prob your best friend in this fight, you can hit him pretty much everywhere, and it's real fast, so openings don't need to be so big
aztec falcon might not be as brutal cuz you at least have walls to climb, but he does exploit the "small" framing of this fight
that's really awesome dawg, still don't know why you were skipping this one and ZXA lmao
on the normal GBA (as prob any horizontal device would) it's less cramped lmao
well, fundamentals would be knowing about dash jump, doing the same from the wall, and in this case, levelling up your weapons
mobility will be your friend through all of the game, so learning those would be the msot inportant imo
Game definitely takes time to learn. We arenât even 10 days into the month so donât worry that much
Just beat it! I found it to be very difficult. I feel like I must've missed something. Was I supposed to grind for the cyber elves to increase my max health? I've basically played the entire game with the health you started with
I was told to max out that elf that increases health by twofold for sure
I noticed it during my playthrough, but I just never naturally got enough stuff to feed it.
The save-assist feature really was a saver for this one
gotta farm some e-crystals
game doesn't "naturally" gives you enough at all
the one that doubles your health costs 3k total
I just didnt own them. They came out when i had to focus on school.
Then when I got the collection, i was Zeroâd out when i redid 1-4
Ah yah I forgot you mentioned that
well I hope you enjoy them now
I know I do, like a lot lel
love how you have ||model X, and can plya just as mega man X, and model Ox, and play just like mega man zero|| if you want
For sure - I think it still suffers by trying to do a little too much for the simple control scheme of the platform. Charging a sword secondary strike while doing a dash jump has my fingers on three buttons while Iâm also having to do a double-tap for the dash
Did the collection re-releases utilize modern controls to give a dedicated sword button?
Oh snapped I missed this - so I can make R the sword attack on press, rather than a combination? (And then I could potentially remap that)
dawg, you are missing dash on L???????
all of this is configurable on the control settings in game
sending this again lmao
Dash on L is just gross for me, regardless if that finger is free
and just to clarify, no, since you can remap as you wish
gross is crazy, why tho
Also partly my fault because of choice of SP
oh you plaing on OG hardware?
Iâm not sure -just feels less dexterous to me when curling my finger around the L button, I need dash so often and so precisely that it doesnât feel good to keep on L (for me)
Not OG - 34XXSP
AH SAME AS ME LET'S GO
change it up to R then, and leave buster on L
since you can just "hold" it
release when need it
yeah you can put any action in any button, so make use of that a lot
I don't think there is NG+
just unlocks hard mode
so yes. in a way
Selecting my cleared data keeps all my health upgrades, etc
But doesnât seem to keep my charge attacks, so Iâm assuming the level of the weapons gets reset
yeah but doesn't it load you before the last boss?
if it does have NG+, the last 20 years have been a lie
I selected the cleared data without holding L to do Hard Mode
well, gl on remapping
I like the default control scheme, but I've been used to it for years now
I managed for the first play through but couldnât help notice that it felt like the scheme was really stretching to be usable by the GBA but I shouldâve looked for a remap, even just making the sword a press vs. a hold-and-press is huge
don't think so, mega man uses 3 buttons normally plus d-pad
gba has 4 plus dpad, and you have 2 buttons for weapons
so bout the same
also, always look at in game options first, never know what you can find, so
I never played this games with this shitty ass hold and press setup, and god only knows why that is the default instead of one button for each
GBA has two buttons
Sorry yes if you mean L:R
Four âfaceâ buttons, yes
aha, but it has 6 buttons, which you use all 6 to play
But itâs worth noting that all mega man games utilize those four and relegate the shoulders to weapon switching
most megaman you only need 2 plus d-pad
sinch you COULD dash with double tap
but X4 onwards
you can shoot special weapon with square for example
and normal buster with triangle
Yeah it works it just feels like they really wanted those four face buttons that had become the norm at the time
no way you wanted to do 4 functions at the same time with your right thumb
cuz I can SEE you wanting both weapons on face, which is still debatable in zero, cuz the saber is the main weapon, so you can just charge buster with R for when you need it
but dash, jumping, and saber you do all the time, those 3 at once
In Mega Man X5 and X6 you have auto charge and rapid fire, so you only need 2 face buttons even, dash and jump, cuz you don't need to hold buster
just so we're clear, some people would rather have 4 face buttons for zero, I think it's crazy, but alas
two of my friends also hates dash on L
I could and have done dash on R so moving sword to a single press button and remapping that to face might be cool
Honestly itâs on me for not realizing I could change it from hold-and-press to press
Dash on R is more digestible than on L for me
yeah this one was diabolical brother
not that I blame you, the default being literally the worst option is ass
I map the a button to b and a, then change the settings so R is the secondary attack, then I map r to the x button and b to the y button. Keep dash on l. Thatâs what Iâve found works. I have both attacks readily available and I can easily jump and dash while charging. Having two jump buttons is super nice.
two jump buttons is innovative
Itâs very liberating, i have to say.
If you change the settings to that R is just the sword, can you shoot while youâre charging the sword?
No. You can still only use one weapon at a time.
Shooting will reset the sword charge.
two weapon buttons đ
two jump buttons đ
yes
unless you set it to CHANGE weapons
then, you can only charge one at a time
Wait⌠really? I was sure that didnât work. Thatâs even more awesome. But seems broken. lol.
shooting does not reset the sword charge
if you release them too closely to each other
animation cancels and the move doesn't happen, but you lose charge
it is not
either charge puts the enemy in invul frames
so you're not melting bosses like this
but you can destroy enemies much quicker, alternating charge attacks
you can definelty charge both, and use both, but not at the exact same time
same as if you release a charge as you're about to get hit
you will lose the charge and move doesn't happen
in any button, as long as attack type is on option B, you can charge both
that is crazy
doubly bonkers that the default control scheme is not only what I feel like is the worst option, but also caps functionality
Gross.
quite
ok some reading suggests that it's just your cyber-elves that carry over when you start a new game from the cleared file (weapons and weapon levels reset)
There's an achievement for Hard Mode that I would like to get, depending on how hard it actually is
there's more I need to learn about where all the elves are, and how to get Jackson
do you want to know now?
I deliberately went in a bit blind the first time but realized that was a mistake when I had gotten to the final boss without realizing how to use the actual elves. I had just "downloaded" them without actually activating them
jackson is a pain in the ass
"What the hell? This guy isn't giving me DOUBLE vitality!!"
you don't really NEED elves
but the final boss does two shot you
Jackson is gotten by getting and using all of the other elves, right?
not using
oh
you need all of them, max level
do I specifically need to NOT use them?
oh whoa I ALSO have to get an A or better on the full game?
so it seems
Are elves missable? Like, if I miss one or more during a certain mission, they are gone for good yes?
can't confirm, never tried
probably
I never cared much about them
but they drop from enemies, and static ones, in containers in missions
certainly are
yeah, I'd probably need a guide
I do lament the fact that there are FAR less currency in the game's critical path than is required to level up even just one of the larges elves
But I suppose using one of the item-boosting elves early on might make that less true
yeah it's meant to be grinded on the open areas
but it's just not that fun
you don't even get rewarded for good rankings
which would help a lot
It's also very unclear to me which elves are permanent upgrades vs. temporary buffs, vs. one-time uses
and incentivate good gameplay
you will only know using them lmao
the description they have is AAAAAAASSSS
lots I still need to learn about this game, and I appreciate all of the insight you've shared
I appreciated the challenge, too (most of the time)
glad to be of help
but I will fight you on the 4 buttons issue đ
-# lmao
nah it's mainly the fact that it required a hold+press for the sword
which I assumed was them squeezing inputs out of a four(total) button device
but I missed the option to change it, in which case I can just remap as I see fit, which I will do for next time
especially since I can charge the sword and fire the gun, holy shit đ¤Ż
yeah it wouldn't even make sence if you think about it, like a combination when a button is just free
and it doesn't combine into any other input lmao
good game starts now buddy đ
I also
did not equip a SINGLE element the entire game

playin' games real good this week
BROTHER WHAT GAME WAS YOU PLAYIN
I also didn't get any of the other weapons...
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
straight Mega Man I guess!!!!
well, the other weapons are kinda mid
but elements are boss MELTERS
like I said earlier
difference between 10sec and 1m kills
btw elements only work on charged attacks
not every hit
ah ok gotcha - good to know
and yeah I imagine that will help me get the rank up better
with elemental knowledge
you prob can loop the bosses for super easy no hit kills
it's elec>fire>ice>elec
some don't have
and some LOOK like they don't have
anubis is weak to fire for example
phanton has no weakness, the other guardians follow the chart
final boss first stage changes with him, last phase is ICE
now go get some S ranks
BTW IMPORTANT ON RAKING
Also do I have to do anything special to get the sword from level 4 to level 5?
yeah
dash slash, and jump slash
will unlock the last 2 moves
ON RANKING
it's your average scores from ALL MISSIONS
you have to get all of them above 96 points
if you fall under, it will damage your average irreparably almost
ok, I'll probably need to use a guide since elf collection plays a part in that ranking
well, good luck
I love the game, but can't be bothered on Zero1 to s-rank, so I never did ALL of them in one game
much appreciated! Love learning the ins and outs of new (to me) retro games
zero 2 and 3 tho, s-rank gives you boss moves, much more interesting to do it
Hopefully I can buffer hard mode difficulty by actually using the systems that the game includes đ
funny you say that, cuz mmz kinda punishes you for using SOME of the systems
using a single elf will take away 10 points from you
FOREVER
in every mission
OOOOOOOOOOH
So S rank is only really attainable by never using an elf
which means S rank and Jackson run makes sense to do at the same time
and retries, if you use them all up in a mission, and don't load, you "fail" the mission
yup
I wish you luck soldier
S-rank took a mental toll on me when I did it
so many mission loads
for simple mistakes
was it fun
no
was it worth it?
also no
but I did it â
dang, even with easy mode and states, that desert escort mission sucked
it's just a slow walker
since easy mode doesn't change the HP of the guy you have to protect lol
or do it like they do on speedruns
they just hit GIVE UP
and be done with it lel
Petition to rename thread to MegaMan Zero Joss after gotm is over
Probably half of the 1484 are joss
Yep
724
No shame, thatâs how I feel about sword of mana tbh
maybe rename it to mega man zero 2 and we keep the ball rolling? ay ay
Really? Name five.
Name 5 Mega Men
I know at leaast 7, but I don't wanna say đ
he is so good he counts at least for 11 of those
Well, I'm not sure if it's because it was late and I was too tired or just out of practice, but the second form of X was my kryptonite last night. I can get through the whole stage, all refights and the first form of X with barely a scratch, but that second form had my number
namely the 2 laser spreads for the hands that it does
Even the EX attack it does isn't too bad with good positioning
Yeah this one gets me every time unless I'm already on the walls đŠ
And done. It really was just me being tired with slower reactions. It was easy tonight
Onto Zero 2
Wanna go brother?
I'm already started
Got a 95 on the first stage and rage restarted
Impressions so far are that Zero 2 is much more streamlined
Growing pains. The issue with Z1 was not knowing what each mission required until you saw it before. Z2 is a much better presentation
Then Z3 and 4 are peak since they let you customize the experience with elves, penalty free
Z3 still has the penalty, so does Z4
But they are mitigated by the game being so much fucking better lol
Yeah bringing it back to MegaMan stages instead of missions with bosses was good
On ZX they have some missions with bosses, but much better than Z1
You get satellite elves up to a certain limit without penalty, no?
Wait, I'm thinking equippable parts
in Z3
In Z4 you can earn levels and use some combination of abilities up to that level
Yeah, one vit, one hacker, and one animal, but if any is above level 0, you take a penalty
Yes, the parts system has no penalty, just using elves
In Z4, you don't feed separate elves, you use crystals to make all of their max level higher
Picking one of each type of elf to be active at the same time
But you still take the elf penalty as always
But Z4 also has no incentive for higher rank, Ex skills are acquired by fighting in the boss favorable weather
Are you sure about that? I distinctly remember growing the level of that elf and using different combinations up to and including the elf level earned without a penalty. Going over the level was when the penalty kicked in
What I found on Google seems to confirm that memory
I don't trust AI overview, but I won't die in this hill either lmao
I'm usually skeptical of the AI as well, but it matches my own experience and at least one gamefaqs thread confirmed it twice from a quick search. I'll give it a pass this time
Yeah I looked at the wiki and it seems to be so đť
That said, so you can use it but sparingly, gaining one point per boss beaten, maxing out at 8 or 9 with body chip
So after beating one boss, you can use a single level of the elf
Which is fine for letting people finally use the system without penalty. Especially since they got rid of the elemental chips
Yeah weakness is only on the ex skills now
Which I think was cool
MMZ3 has the best overall systems tho, besides srank for ex
I think the revisited ROM hacks for 2 and 3 are cool
For 2 it cuts the elf evolve costs in half, and you get ex independent of rank
On 3 it's just the ex skills
I've been pretty busy with my move, but there's been plenty of car time to play. I'm just about at the Neo Arcadia levels now, so hopefully I can wrap this up in the next couple days
I think back fondly on the Zero games from my childhood, but maybe it was more 2-4 that I liked
I mean, they are much better tbf lmao
@devout saddle
Look at this pro Lv. 4 Victory

no overdrive no nothin?
I used the fractional (i think four or five health blips) subtank storage I had saved up cause I keep forgetting to grind for those to fill
And i honestly keep forgetting overdrive exists lol
Mostly i ise subtanks in levels while making jumps to explore for power ups etc
well, are you having fun?
any troubles with the map?
if you're on leganchor seems like you found your way just fine
Yeah! There are some weird quirks that make it not feel like a full metroidvania. (I think missions prompting when you get to a location would be better because sometimes its like âoops on the wrong mission time to go backâ)
But i spent like an hour exploring so I pretty much have most of the map unlocked (like knowing where new zones are)
Map so far isnt too hard to navigate
Made it to Harpuia at work today, f that boss lol. Kicking my butt.
bit of a loop that is not hard to do if you want
if you hit him with the ice charge attack
he will always do the triple combo
it's jump stay jump to dodge it
then jump again as he will prob hit yo uwith a jump wave
then hit him with chraged ice
repeat this for like 6 times
also, if his dog kicked your butt on the disposal center, you would know he was gonna be harder đ
I mean they do if it's a main quest mission right
Praire always tells you when you reach a mission area
also did you notice praire is the lil kid that talks about cyber elfs in zero1-4?
He has a dog? Idk if Iâve encountered that yet
the first real boss
Aztec Falcon
Not a dog, but, he is shown mounting it on official art and MMZ2
this guy
Only if youâve selected. Yeah. Kinda wish if none were selected that it put the one into active
I didnât thats neat
Also is the girl the canon character because ||shes SIS? Since Im playing as vent, Im having hints of âshes still alive and then it turns out to be YOU THE PLAYERâ||
But only if you play as Aile or whatever her name is
||"SIS" is Ciel remember, Praire lives with her in MMZ, and calls her sis in mmz3-4||
She grows up to be the leader of the Resistance, since ||Ciel is a human, and is long dead||
Aile is cannon because of events in MMZXA, in which ||Grey is the cannon character||
Oh that makes sense, duh
I think it's very cute to fight against oppressive dictators as her sis did đ
Honestly this game going âoh heres how to make a cyber elfâ

When you save them and they tell you that I audibly piped up âoh thats darkâ
yeah it has a bit of drama
I finished the standard missions. Guess the real game starts now.
Boy you better be charging both weapons or else
Second form of the final boss is no joke. Very beatable with some pattern recognition, though
It's very jokey, just watch the hands and dodge everything but the spread laser đŠ
Made it to Phantom, just have this and then the final I think?
You mean the protect the factory mission
Or ||in the boss rematch||?
Phantom in the protect mission, thatâs the last one on my list
Yeah, but it's a 3 stage gauntlet to the final boss after that, and if you know Capcom you know what's coming
Stupid phantom , I hated that guy
|| Pick a side when he rides his shuriken ||
I think staying moving is better lol
|| All I know is that he can't hit you if you pick a corner ||
Yeah, but I like to charge saber him to end it faster, so I kinda follow him
Ahh, yeh I could see that, I would charge and then hit him after he jumped off, while in air. Smaller window for sure but worked out ok in the end (for me)
Hey man, what works works đť
Youâre basically where Iâm at. Youâve unlocked the wily stages for the older ones. This is when the game really gets difficult typically.
Phantom is cool because hes so clearly âProtoman but a ninjaâ in design.
Neo Arcadia 1 is tough since it's basically 3 mini stages with 2 minibosses and a full boss. Stage 2 is short, but it's an execution heavy climb. Not the worst in Mega Man history, though. Stage 3 can be short with a shortcut, but it's a gauntlet
Oh good, now it gets difficult
Get ready :)
Stage 2 did kill me a bunch, and I just restarted since I wanted to save my retries for X
Not entirely sure I can beat Phantom at this point lol. Feels like Iâm close to figuring out the patterns
Just starting this a bit late, anything I should know going into this game?
yeah
level up your weapons in the first stage after rescuing ciel, in the purple infinitely respawning poles
don't give up on missions if you die, actual "give up" option, it will fail the mission, but keep the story rolling
if you need any tips and tricks just hit me up
I appreciate it đ
If you care about rank, don't level the weapons at the poles during the first mission. Use the trans server to go back to the intro stage and hang out near one of those spider nests with a couple of grunts that spawn. Then fiddle around there to level things. That area is inaccessible when you return for another mission.
Finally beat Phantom and now Iâve got to diffuse bombs? I hate this game. Might be where I tap out
That is the worse part of the game, if you can push through it
If the bombs are enough to convince you to genuinely quit, you also have the option to just leave the factory and head all the way left. It counts as a failed mission, but lets you continue the game iirc
you could also die to phanton and just hit give up
The second phase of X keeps kicking my butt
it's not easy
watch the hands
shows what move he is gonna do
the fire one is the one you have to watch out for, deals half your HP in damage
(besides falling in the hole)
gotta stay on the walls when he does the fire
he usually does NOTHING while the fire is there
so you can shoot chareged shots on his head
as soon as the fire is gone, leave the walls, he will prob to the stun thing and you will fall lol
All right, ||charged saber|| makes Aztec Falcon a snap
That's why immediately grinding up exp for the saber and buster is always my go'to move. ait only takes 15ish minutes when you get a good line down in that intro stage revisit. And pays off in spades
15 minutes to upgrade them to max or until you can charge them up?
Until I can charge them. The exp gap from there to max is kind of large and has sort of diminishing returns IMO. Regular charge takes 2 seconds, faster charge takes 1.5. Scenarios where that 0.5 second gap makes a difference are situational. Especially if you're using the R button to charge the buster
I definitely notice the difference in charge time on the saber, but it's not a huge issue in the Aztec Falcon fight specifically
With how long iframes last and the ability to charge 2 weapons it really does become less important, for me at least
But I've also spent a fair bit of time with the series over the years
Anyway I've cleared a few levels but oof this game puts up a fight
100% yes. Which made learning it that much more satisfying. Similar to how learning Devil May Cry felt
that will do to most bosses lel
with elementals, even more so
I somehow never got the other weapons đ¤
Someone told me to talk to the old man but he just always said the same stuff
@devout saddle
ZX finished.
Vent's story is funny. Boiling down to "Fuck you, You aint Mega Man."
Eventually I'll do another run to see how Aile's differs
Itâs not the old man. ||itâs the dude in the bottom right room of the base. Looks like a regular soldier, but in a room. ||
Iâve made it to the boss rush. 4 down so far.
So I've been playing the GBA version. What version are the other folks here playing?
ngl I wouldn't mind Save Assist, but save states do basically the same thing I guess
GBA normal
Played through GBA spamming save states
I played GBA
I give up
what's the problem G
maybe there are tips and tricks to share
PASSSSYYYYY
Hahaha
I forgot
âYou have to save her!!!!!â
zero does one single saber strike
The robot holding Ceil
Elephant man down.
Dude something about the sub area / Leviathan fight tilts me
I normally love water levels in Mega Man but i know this would ever stop me from trying a s-rank run again
I do not remember this gaming being so hard when I played it as a kid
Probably didnât have just a month to beat it either
More like 11 months because we only got games at Christmas/birthdays
yeah I kinda hate it, it's not hard, but the spikes makes me play so slow
Okay. Wrapped up the bomb difuse mission. Need to break as this is not a friendly game for a Miyoo mini. My dash finger is hurting
Base is evacuating. If I remember, I'm prettyclose to the end, no?
Yeah. Just the final Neo Arcadia stages left. 1 is long since it's basically 3 mini stages in one. 2 is shorter, but it's a climb. Classic MM and X climb levels have been harder, though. Then the relight stage
LOL the fucking vanishing walls got me
I forgot they disappear (to then try and attack you)
Went to jump and immediately jumped to my death lol
Almost done with this, feeding all the elves and getting all S ranks.
For those who still need place to farm crystals, the best places are:
Underground lab (BEFORE the 'retrieve data' mission): keep destroying the spiders the spider nest spits out
Desert (AFTER both the 'Find Shuttle' and 'Duel in the Desert' (where you meet Fefnir) missions: The sand snakes only drop energy crystals. Go the very end of the stage, where you find the crashed copter, there's a line of snakes nearby. Farm. If you get weak, the vulture nearby only drop life crystals.
I finds the spiders to be better, so either leave the retrieve data mission as late as possible, or do all the grinding needed before that mission. I think 24k crystals is enough.
Iâm on the 2nd form of the final boss and I couldnât without save states
I didnât even use the elves.
X's second form isn't too bad once you learn the attacks. They're just pretty punishing as you learn them
I see the light at the end of the tunnel
Done! No more đ
I just fired up zero 2 to see how it compares and wow what an improvement, I also love how the menu hi starts out as a busted version of the first game until you get rescued by the resistance!
Now give Zero 3 a quick go a d prepare to be really impressed
Looks so fucking good đŠ
Are they statues or figurines?
Model kits, and I think they are custom made from spare parts/panting/sculpting
Could be wrong, but that was my understanding from the twitter
I'd believe the custom part. They're done well, but if you look close it looks like the unique parts for each character sort of lack some detail like contours and whatnot that the parts from the actual kits have.
Stuff like the wings on Harpuia's helmet, Fafnir's weapon and upper body armor, Shadow's mask
There's a good MMZ from Kotobukiya, but it's a bit low on surface details
I bought the 2 Eastern Model kits. Smaller model kit companies can be hit or miss for quality, but these were great
The poses are basic and weird since they're only loosely held together for the test fitting. I still need to disassemble and paint them
Custom made model kits, known as 'Garage kits'. I have one of Storm Eagle, made of 'moveable resin', but need to get some generic joints for it before I assemble it and paint it. Quality varies, and the resin bits are doubly more fragile than the materials used in the official kits, but for characters that will never get a figure, these are a god send.
I really hope you know the ins and outs of the respiratory safety precautions for working with resin. Resin dust is scary dangerous.
Guilty as charged.
I am considering just getting someone else to paint it when the time comes. For now, it's chilling in the box, waiting for me to order the joints.
It also already coloured resin, it just needs the details.
That would be a wise decision if you aren't set up with a mask with proper filters and a ventilation booth. I forget the specific detailed explanation for exactly why resin dust is bad for your lungs. But I recall that it is very, very dangerous to breath in. 2k gloss paint is something else someone needs to be very careful with because of isocyanate safety. I'm set up for using that regularly on the kits I work with and I still refuse to touch resin.
Noted, definitely paying someone else to do it then. Thank you for the warning.
NP. Back when I spent a lot of time in one of the big gunpla servers there'd always be people popping in casually working with the stuff with no safety measures in place, so that warning is all reflex at this point. Not enough people/places that sell those parts communicate the proper safety needs clearly enough. Probably afraid it'd hurt sales
X's second form is beating my ass, any tips on how to avoid the attack where he spams yellow projectiles?
I am trying to beat the game with no save states (gba version) and I already lost count of the amount of times I went through the boss rush, I think I can beat all those 8 bosses with my eyes closed at this point
Watch a speedrun to see where they stand or jump to
I just tank that thing lol, if you get to him with like 7 or 8 lives you can put rng it, and ofc needs to beat the rush and first form with full health
It's his least damaging move
If you charge saber with ice chip on him he dies fast
This game was awesome. I wish i has this in my childhood
It really is!
Very different from MMX, but not in a super bad way I think
Just leveling up weapons kinda suck
I played this one and partway thru mmz2 when they were out, i should go back and play thru the whole series
You really should, they improve a lot every entry
I played MMZ as a kid, it was my first real introduction to the Mega Man series, it and Battle Network 1 which I got at the same time iirc.
God I died so many times in this game.
it's not easy if you're not aclimmated to the series already
The only saving grace as a kid was the fact that you can Escape from basically every mission to get to the end of the game lmao
huge speedrun tech lmao
@devout saddle
So, ||Model A is just Axl then?||
Keep playing đ
fuck this Phantom guy
keep playaaaaang đ
at least he is at the begginign of the stage lel
also keep em posted, love me some ZXA
first run did blow my mind back in the day lel
Zero is an honorary member of the trans community.
Whoops. I apparently haven't been saving. Just game overed trying to do some dumb wall climb stuff and lost 3 hours worth of gameplay lol
I'm back before the first mission
I think now you can skip the cutscenes tho
at least to get to where you were
Yeah. I did this once or twice with ZX but never this much time lol
It FEELS like a game that should be auto saving so I think my brain goes "mission complete. it saved"
naw it should give you a password after every boss đ
but yeah it auto saves some stuff, but not progress
it auto saves your cutscene for some reason lel
also how did you like model A?
It's a neat concept. Being able to ||Change into enemy mavericks is pretty cool. But so far, I'd rather just stay in model A when I can||
The homing multi target missile thing is nice.
But good god damn, do I hate this:
I'm getting really sick of this being their only vertical platforming design
Wait sorry
Like its fine, but I'm just tired of seeing it
lmao
tower of verdure hours
friend of mine did a ||"boss only"|| run, had to get really creative with that one lel
https://www.reddit.com/r/Megaman/s/yy7SmZCguC
the best tier list Ive ever seen
big if true
"x7 has no doors so its the worst mega man game" is sending me
feels like "correct conclusion, wrong path" lmao
Decided to finally start participating and oof my skills may be lacking for this one but working through it.
it's all about practice big dawg
Ted Lasso is slowly becoming my new favorite comedy show with Jason Sudeikis playing good-spirited coach Ted Lasso. There's nothing like the Ted Lasso way and this scene had me cracking up.
"WE'RE TALKING ABOUT PRACTICE, NOT A GAME, PRACTICE!" (Scene Clip)
Ted Lasso is an American sports comedy television series developed by Bill Lawrence, Jas...
@devout saddle @nova oar
Forgot to say, when the ||Sage trinity ||is introduced
i basically looked at ||Albert|| like this
||Aint no way a man named albert doesnât turn out to be the bad guy||.
Hope Iâm right
protecc factory is brutal
Prob the most complained about mission lel
Each of their names is a reference || to an older character from the series :) ||
As someone who never played megaman, this was not an enjoyable experience. I think Iâm spoiled by modern platforming.
not a super good one to start tbf
Ya, so it seems. I donât mind the lead up to the bosses as much, but it feels like you have to be super precise with your jumps and dashes in bosses to not get walloped.
Got too used to silksong where itâs not so zoomed in đ
Also for what its worth. classic, X and zero all play different with X and Zero being the closest, but the stage design/enemy design has different ideology
Zero series is generally best enjoyed on a second or third playthrough because you can melt bosses after youâve had time to master each games movement/weapons
MMZ was absolutely a game made for people who'd already cut their teeth on and mainlined MMX1-5 specifically
Hmm. Yep I'm on the last three missions
I have seven lives. Let's hope it's enough
I should probably prep some cyber elves just in case. I haven't used any yet but
It's too late in the month to be too proud to sacrifice some Tamagotchis
Oh hey just got a new weapon in time for the endgame and a little too late to train it up
Let's see. I've got three elves that can boost my max HP, and like 2200 or so crystals
I'll keep them in my back pocket I guess
Neo Arcadia Core let's go
YOu got this!
...
Now seriously considering a double health elf and packing full heal elves
...
The fuck
this bloody level
...
Level 1 is 3 mini levels with 3 bosses. Level 2 is a climb, but shorter. 3 is the boss rush
||and of course using an extra life starts you off at the first phase of the final fight||
Yeah I'm on 3
Should I be using a different weapon from my Z Saber? I use it for almost everything
It's fine. Just equip the ice chip
And watch a vid of how someone takes out phase 2. The yellow laser waves are the hardest IMO
Getting clapped by the first phase here still. I gotta work on that
Ah. That one's easy once you figure out the flow
Get a hit in when he air dashes. Stay on the floor or wall the ice shot hits since it spreads outward. Fire has an Arc. Lightning tracks but it's slow. Non elemental is a bog standard X shot pattern
Jump over and get a hit in when he ground dash attacks
Otherwise, it's pick your spot and range depending on the element he's using
I do not have my shit together tonight
X is a very execution heavy boss
OK, got through the first phase with more than half my health. Time to be open to using my heal elf
...nope
I was expecting that reaction
All right, out of lives. Time to get back to work, then I can break open the elves later tonight
YouTube is your friend here if you want to skip a ton of trial and error
Probably not the worst idea
It's mainly to see how to deal with his 3 attacks. Cause that's all he has if you're not high ranked
The yellow laser spray and the immobilization rings are the main obstacles
tfw I don't have enough crystals for the double vitality elf
flame floor isn't bad when you figure out the timing. Basically a free hit
Ice chip means he goes down in either 6 or 8 hits, I think
...so pack three heal elves, got it
There's a good EC grinding spot in the desert near the tank, for in a pinch
Actually I do have enough crystals for the double defense elf it looks like. Maybe I should try that one
There. Limped through the final battle with Shelter and three heal elves. Rest in peace Shelter, Fureff, Greff, Ireff. (Those last three might be inexact; can't check their names on a mission)
RIP
Fwiw, the devs learned a lot and applied it to Zero 2
Zero 1 has some fantastic bones
And some ideas that didn't quite hit
Then we got Zero 3, which was peak
Zero 4 was also good and a lot consider it as good as 3. I personally prefer 3, but love 4 as well
Do all the Zero games have the same power-up structure where they penalize score and are narratively discouraged?
I believe 2 does, but you get new outfits/forms that change your stats a bit. 3 introduces equippable parts that let you do more without penalty. Like an invincible dash, faster charge, etc. And 4 lets you equip elves up to a point without penalty based on a level you grow as you beat stages.
It basically gets more lenient as it goes on
Man, I tried to play this game. Haha I don't even really know what level I'm on but I have one life left and I think I'm gonna call this month a bust.
Maybe I should just try playing the X series first. I've only dabbled a couple times with them along with trying the original games.
3 includes satellite elves that orbit you and arent consumed but still has traditional elves as well
Glad to hear the later ones let you have some powerups they don't make you feel bad about using
Just finished. It's a fine game, but like all Mega Man games the good ones have minimal or no character dialog. And this one fails hard in this aspect. It was cool slicing things in half though
I tried to beat it with no savestates and failed to finish it by end of month just for the final boss!!
Dammit, ||I've got 8 lifes at Neo Arcadia save point and memorized all bosses' patterns by now but can't get to X final form with enough life (and brain stamina lol) to learn its moves!||
I'm a but bummed out but I'll get to it at some point, I'm just a little burned out at the moment and I need a change of pace.
Good next month everyone!
That's the part where I sucked it up and used elves.
I wasn't against using elves as a matter of fact, they're just not enough for me at the moment đ đ
