I’m really torn with this.

Nearly all of my gaming is sitting on the couch and a lot of that is Artemis local PC streaming. For PC streaming I have already been using a SD8 Gen2, 165Hz OLED phone and telescopic controller, which has worked pretty well.

But is this worth picking up for $200?
-lower performance SD865
-larger 7” screen
-potentially better controls/ergonomics

Stick with what I have? Pick this up? Odin 2 portal? Consider a gaming tablet? Someone tell me what to do

It is not true, when Air X about to launch, ayaneo reply back by launching pocket mini. But both are equally great handhelds.

For strictly streaming, the Max might be a good pickup. The sticks are probably better than the Portal's (which are on the small side for PC gaming), but if you have one of the better USB-C telescoping controllers with full size sticks you might not notice any real upgrade in controls.

For emulation and Android gaming, I'd go Portal. SD8G2 is just too much of an upgrade over the SD865 in the Portal to pass up for things that require power on the device itself. And it'd be an upgrade over your phone simply due to the active cooling allowing the chip to not throttle so much.

Some games don't have their animations tied to the framerate, which allows you to un-limit the speed in Eden and you can get high FPS without messing up the games. Ones I know of are Metroid Dread, Cruis'n Blast, and Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom. I'm sure there's loads of them, but I've never found a definitive list

Modular buttons were a bad idea. Raised cost, added fail point, overestimated consumer desire. "Feature" then turned into upsell. Offering free modules no one wants to combat AYN sale is a losing strategy too. Mangmi couldn't anticipate this brilliant move. Good device at a risky price point absolutely hammered by external factors.

It's all quite interesting considering many people rather spend $50 more and wait weeks to get Portal. Perception of value for pocket max very low.
