No real operational issues as far as I can tell, but people still don't like when they spend $300+ on something and things break on it. For that kinda money folks expect to not have things breaking.

usually after the crack develops a part of that hinge gives out, doesn't hold the metal insert anymore and then you get a floppy hinge so it is important

as long as the crack doesn't widen then the hinge functionality is preserved. and i don't think insults are deserved here

but for the sake of being petty i do hope your Thor hinge develops a crack and you live with it because you're no "chicken mfer"

Yeah, regardless if it's real or not, if your hinge goes floppy/actually breaks these have an actual stated warranty.
Take a photo if you see anything early on and send an email as a timestamped paper trail, but I wouldn't worry too much unless it actually breaks on you.

Having looked at my white Thor super closely under really harsh lighting, I think I can actually see the mold line on mine. It's barely a line, more like a subtle interruption in the texture pattern. Can't be felt at all. Definitely gives me confidence that this is a big bunch of nothing aside from the one person who did have a genuine down to the metal crack.

Get an SD card, organise your rom library. Convert .isos to .chd, .3ds to (z)cci, etc. If you're going to use ES-DE as your frontend you can scrape artwork in advance and then copy everything over to the SD card.

If you have original hardware, there are often ways to copy save files to emulators. You can jailbreak PS2, 3DS, Switch and many others and back up your savegames.
