#AYN Thor
1 messages · Page 30 of 1
Having such a large screen with such a small footprint when closed gets overlooked a lot.
True
The era of horizontal consoles has come to an end
Here comes the dual revolution
Its true, it looks like it just belongs on a work desk
Yep, rp5 now feels redundant for me. But still a great handheld
How does Thor feel when playing dual analog games
I finally get mine today!
Question, folks: Thor or wait for the Flip 3?
Not sure if I’m a fan of dual screens since I’d only be playing a few 3DS/DS titles, but the Thor is one sexy beast.
Ergonomics matter a lot to me, the Flip 2 isn’t the most comfortable, but it’s definitely feels like its better than the Thor in that regard.
That said, the Thor’s extra power is really tempting.
So… what should I do?
if you don't care about dual screens, i guess i'd wait
Personally I'm not sure I agree with people that say Flip 2 is more comfortable than the Thor
i haven't touched any of them but the big inset on the flip 2 looks comfy
you think so? i just thought since its more inset it would be a better experience
It's better for my thumb to go up rather than stretch inward like on the Flip
I've heard people say they like the grip
Not a grip person myself so I don't use it
I have my flip 2 still and will be comparing them tonight when i get my thor
and the flip 2 is really comfy for me
yeah im also not a grip person but if it would ultimately help the experience, i wouldn't mind having it as an option. Especially for longer sessions
for some reason this pic has hyped me up for the thor more than anything else
the practical pics of it make it look really good. just seeing it on your desk is cool in a way lol
Thanks for that! The last I heard was that it was going to be a mix of PC and ABS. Good to know that it's pure PC
Thinking of putting a planner app just to further hide it in plain sight at work 🤔
also, anyone with experience, 4px or DHL. which is faster?
DHL will always be faster
Im thinking dhl just cause the expense of the device, maybe its worth it?
Canada for me
Would dhl be more..gentle? Or faster?
Keep signature required on DHL and at least you know they can't lob it from the truck 😅
Hm. I've been recently running into an issue where if es-de is the Default home app, I can't access the Recent Items menu with 3-button navigation set.
you underestimate local dhl 😄
Did he do it with a smile?
What's the current on gamehub vs ghlite? Finally to a point where I want to test some pc games
that is such a work office set up if i've ever seen one
DHL for Canada has been 100% on extra customs fees for me so I always avoid DHL personally.
❓ Realistically, if I order the Thor now, when do you think it would ship? 🎮
I was just trying to remember who I was gonna report to, lmao
It sits on the Retroid dock perfectly fine, but you can't use the bottom TPU cover or it doesn't compelte the circuit.
You're welcome! Keep in mind I only use mine as a charging dock/place to set it when I'm done, I don't put the screen on a bigger screen.
You're very welcome!
Set default Android as home app and then run es-de ( I was having similar problems with Odin Launcher)
Now I use default Android and just launch daijisho
Fine, the grip helps a lot if you’re playing for over 20 minutes
The grip helps but not hugely and only over longer sessions imo. It's like a 10% improvement imo
Supposedly game hubs new update alleviated the privacy concerns, I suspect there shouldn’t be a difference then
It's funny that there's not one but two retroarch cores that will play cave story
Was able to use one of them to just directly run cave story+ copy pasted from my steam install lol
Well one is based on running the og zip and the other is a different one based on cs+
I think the newer one can run the freeware files too, most people say it's the better one, the original core is how I first played the game a few years ago I think
It can yes
Alright
time to workshop the stupidest usecase possible for the Thor Max
Can the Thor Max run a local image generation model?
switch on one screen, ps3 on bottom screen
The answer appears to be maybe
Happy Stranger Things day!
My ocd will be so annoying to match title card and joysticks lights to everything I’m playing.
Settling with just the default android launcher
Tired of trying to mess with setups
So just quickstep plus some widgets
Just need ES-DE to update with app launch screen location options so I can just keep it open on the bottom screen.
At least one unit was lost in Louisville
Daijisho is getting on my last nerve lol
What widgets are you using?
unfortunately it doesn't seem to work with widgets
i wanna combine esde on bottom screen + setting es-de to open retroarch on top screen when that update comes out
What's that dock widget
Folder Widget
What exactly is quickstep on the Thor?
it's the default built in android launcher
Did they use an app to change the icons like this or do you have to do it manually for each? Would look great on a black OLED screen
did I fuck up choosing 4PX for the shipping of my thor grip? 😩
does online play work well on gamehub? or at all?
Just curious, how long did the delivery take to CZ with 4PX?
For what?
You can set icon packs or edit individually in folder widget if you mean that
4 days to cz , 3 days czech post
(25/26 was weekend)
Thx. Much faster than I thought. Do you have any idea how long it can AYN take to ship the order these days?
transit center on 22nd was hungary
took 2 days when i was ordering O2P frip
no clue whats the current shipping timing for thor
Thx anyway!
Has anyone here installed a screen protector that hasn't messed up on the bottom with bubbles/gaps? Any advice on application that helped?
You got me all excited thinking the season was dropping today. 20 more days still.
They drop the first 5min today
That sounds like too much blue ball potential for me
I'll wait
I know but social media will spoil it so I have to watch😩
I need to find a good season 1-4 refresher. I don't have time to rewatch everything.
I've been giving a handful of games a shot in GameNative. Surprisingly, Yakuza 0 runs really well. Have to use bioniC instead of GlibC, but that's not really a big deal. Game runs at 60+ FPS indoors and about 40 FPS outdoors. Only really experienced dips outdoors and doesn't really impact much.
I tried Kingdom of Amalur in GameHub which run really well expect of texture flicking and no audio dialogue😔I’m try Winlator, hope it fixes that
If that doesn't work out, it was also available on Switch. IIRC it runs prettty well, at least in Citron.
The Re-Reckoning? Last I heard it had difficulty running well.
Oh nuts I missed that gamehub requires an online connection. I might go back to lite 🤔
As soon as I can find a game that actually runs with the dumbass selection of compat layers it offers for steam games
Like you're having trouble getting steam games to run? I guess I've only tried Hades 2
Yeah, Skyrim supposedly wants Wine 9 but GH only offers Proton and Wine 10
For steam specifically
Imports can use other versions
There’s a toggle to play in offline mode
Oh shoot
Oooh
Yeah, apparently Metaphor will only run with a non steam version
I discovered after I spent an hour downloading it
my initial install was 'fine' but the grip just shoves it up and eventually it just kinda flopped there... I ordered a new set from AE that should be here this weekend so we'll see if they are better or just the ones that AYN had anyway
👀 what anime is that
nothing insanely protective but i noticed the thor fits nicely in the little soft bag from the ugreen portable battery i got
to speed up my stranger things rewatch, i can play an episode on each screen
Both at max volume
Somehow your picture matched this message so well
Lol
I like SD cards cause I can swap them out with other android systems / PCs
Might need to get a 2tb card tho
Madoka Magika
You can play lighter non-steam games off of an SD card right?
how does red dead run on this with GH? either the first or second
Red Dead Redemption 2 running locally on Odin 2 Portal Max using Gamehub / Gamefusion.
Gamehub & in-game settings shown at start of video, gameplay starts at 06:20
Game runs suprisely smooth so far!
- Snapdragon 8 Gen 2
- Adreno 740
- 16GB
- Android
Built in FPS from Odin device top left, & Gamehub built in FPS with other settings top mi...
would this be comparable to thor?
Yes, same chip
gamehub is so impressive
stranger things ost makes me wanna play hyper light drifter again
It makes me wanna play Retrocity Rampage Hawaii, that game pops so hard on OLED
nvm i found one
1 hour gameplay of Red Dead Redemption running locally on Odin 2 Portal using Gamehub. PC emulation, not streaming.

Such a good game
A little Fields of Mystria for my first Gamehub test, flawless and the perfect way to play this game
I only finished it once, but I only did main stuff. There was so much I missed out on
I play it again every few years
Best enjoyed with some headphones
Very atmospheric
How does it differ from Stradew and Rune Factory?
Same basic gameplay as Stardew but less 'cumbersome'. It wears its 90s anime aesthetic on its sleeve with very likeable characters
That's what I did. I have a total of 3TB and it feels amazing
Does the Thor have a builtin controller mapper like Mantis Pro? Something that lets me play point and click Android games with the controller
I wanted the 1TB model just because there's a lot of "permanent home" games I'd put on the Thor.
damn didn't recognize that art. can't wait for the new movie soon
Odd that downloading games kicks up more heat than Playing games via gamehub
Yeah I noticed that too
half the time the game wouldn't even download on my phone so hopefully Thor is better
Yes
So far each game has run great. Everspace has a light hitch at the start of a mission but then runs excellent
It's ridiculous
Literally shattered platform barriers it's wild
The RP mini is using a chip from 2019. How is it able to play PC games from like 5 years before that. It's crazy
Actually even playing recent games on it
Using so little power even compared to steam deck
Curious. Can I put in a vote for what color people ordered?
What game is that?
I can only find on-screen button mapping. I'm looking for something that gives me a virtual mouse cursor I can control with the gamepad.
Like Mantis virtual mouse mode
Tomb raider 2013
Great game and still feels modern
Can't believe how incredibly wrong I was not even six months ago...
That’s why I had no interest in a dual screen android at first because I thought tweaking would be cumbersome.
I remember way back when i joined the server, I was like "man are there really no DS handhelds aside from pocket DS (1000+ dollars). Someone was really snooty and was like "expecting a ds handheld for cheaper is really dumb"
now we got a ds for like 100 and a really solid "3ds" for 250-300
Same
Pretty amazing 😀
Pretty amazing 😀
Pretty amazing 😀
Lol I picked the wrong emoji
This thing is awesome lol
that was only 2 months ago
I can't believe I tried arguing that dual-screen handhelds would be too niche LOL
And look where we are now
I'm so happy to have been wrong
Yeah I said that a few days before they announced it lol
This is peak
Can’t open exe in winlator when it runs in GameHub?
Hi! How do I change the lower screens brightness?
click the ayn button
Ty
First game in the books: Another Super Mario 3D (DS, 2014)
DHL hits Canadians HARD with import taxes, NOT worth the faster shipping imo
This device is really good ngl
It's going to be handheld of the year
What was handheld of the year last year? Rp5?
why is it so expensive 🥀
Honestly tho, you're not missing out if you wait for ambernic DS
i think ill pass on that one, current iteration is gonna be plagued with issues, mark my words
i guess its just a matter of saving money for this
Ah. Yeah thor is very pricey tho. If you don't need 3ds or DS id wait for rp5
Rp6*
Or go with a lite / base model maybe
ill definitely go base
not lite though
never go lite
even if you dont have money for base
Id go pro honestly
is 4 gb ram more that much of a difference?
The os alone uses 3.6 gb of ram
oh wow
Yeah let me just double check
Yeah closer to 2.5 / 3, there's a lot of crap, but it's not insignificant imo
thanks for the heads up bro
It's worth the money
Also as an epileptic I find that thank you gif appropriate karma for calling you poor lol
for gamehub and stuff definitely. With gamehub extra spec bumps actually matter now
Pro is definitely the best balance imo, especially if you already have an SD card, 12 gb gets like 95% of what you can do with an 8 gen 2
I can see this being the last device for a very long time for me, just because it plays all the switch and PS2 I need so I don't see a need for a new console really. Gamehub isn't for me but if it is that would be a good reason to keep on getting I would guess
just wait for the ayn thor 2 that will either be a revolutionary industry changing device or a hot steaming piece of shit no inbetween
Just need an 8 elite gen 5 thor for gamehub and an AI Max 395 thor for bluestacks
don't forget the liquid cooling
I've been buying "definitely my last device" every six months for the last three years 😂
But I have a really really good feeling about this one 😜
vapor chamber cooling*
Max it up
do we have any indepth battery life tests for the thor? im not too stressed about how long itll last but im starving for info on my thor while i wait for it to ship
lmao
its not that great
darn.
any specific benchmarks or numbers for that or
is it just not great in general
lmao
IMO battery life is pretty good
The AYN Thor is a beautiful successor to the 3DS line of handhelds, but with a ton more power and possibilities. It's not perfect, but in this video we'll explore all the reasons why this is a hall-of-fame handheld.
Buy one here: https://tinyurl.com/ThorRGC
Impressions video: https://youtu.be/B2sUrakqWt0
Rainbow color option: https://youtu.be/...
no shipments today either, it's been 4 days
You can just look at the Odin 2 for performance, battery and reduce that a little because of the second screen.
Keep in mind OLEDs use less battery than the LCD in the Odin 2
The two screens still use more than the one lcd screen in these devices.
its good on light emulation
anything above or some ds games it goes fast
I dunno, seven hours of 3DS and PS2 feels solid
yeah the battery life on the thor is legitimately incredible imo
The only time I really feel like it's going quick is when I'm running PC games at max
And even that's 4 hours
Same here. The battery life is great
oh that's really good lmao
mutlitasking is fun
Is it correct to say that the only way to have shader sub-frames for only certain consoles in retroarch would be to install a 2nd instance? Eg. 64 and 32

This might be a stretch, but if anyone happens to have this and can advise how/if it works via game hub I might finally buy it 😆
lovely chill game 😄 i havent got the Thor but i have the portal which is same chipset. I could take a look?
That would be awesome if you could and not an imposition
For those have non-black color, do you stretch to fill the bottom screen when playing DS or 3DS?
8 inch is gigantic, geez.
Idk if they'll keep the O3 Portal at 7-inches or make it 8-inches, but I think I'd personally prefer it staying at 7 inches
I've gotten more comfortable with taking my Switch 1 out and about outside of the home to where I think I can be ok with using and carrying 7-inch devices in my backpack now
I might do what I saw in one of the videos and move the bottom screen to the top border of the bottom screen as opposed to stretching it
Will like the two screens being closer together
At home i previously used Odin 2 Portal (now i’m already trying to sell it), but now with Lenovo Go S with bigger screen is another level of gaming.
Thor is on selling too
Yeah, if you're not ever really taking it out of the house, Go S with the 8 inch screen seems neat.
Some might ask why you wouldn't simply use a gaming laptop instead, but those aren't as comfy to use on the couch or in bed
Something I hadn't thought about for if an Android handheld ever uses an 8-inch screen is that it'd be a good bit lighter in weight than an equivalent PC Handheld.
If I'm not mistaken, the Portal is a great bit lighter than both the Ally and the Steam Deck (which are also 7-inch screen handhelds)
But yeah, reason I'm even remotely thinking about a Portal now and talking about it in here is bc I might get the Thor as my edc clamshell of choice, and I think O3P + Thor would be a better combo for me than O3 + Thor with how comfortable I've gotten with using and taking a Switch 1 outside
i decided to keep Lenovo Go S for gaming at home and Odin3 for gaming on the go. I had hopes, that Thor will be pocket friend, but jesus, these triggers.. it is imposible to use
Yeah, the triggers could use improvement from what I've seen.
There's a good chance someone will make 3d-printed triggers that are better than the ones it comes with if it hasn't already been done though
I think the triggers are fine honestly
And I put it in my pocket all the time
Speaking for myself, I probably would be fine with the triggers it comes with too, but I get why they're not that great
You should be playing pokemon on two screens then trading between the versions man you're doing it all wrong
it depends for which games, i play a lot racing games, where i use triggers for throttle and brake, and when near is Odin2 Portal, then you understand, how terrible experience is on Thor conparing to Odin2 Portal and i hope to Odin3. I’m now trying to sell Thor and waiting for Odin3, i hope this will be my travel buddy and Lenovo Go S will be home buddy.
Oh I guess for racing games that would kinda make sense. But i play the wipeout series that uses bumpers anyways and for that it's fine
I would say that racing games are the exception tho
Six seven hours was the result for most people on light stuff, right?
Also how much does 8gb suffer on switch emulation?
tbh idont really plan to play those kins of racin ames on Thor anyway
most nintendo racers fr exaple dont even use trigers for throttle/brake anyway
same with nonnintendo nds/3ds games
so its mostly about few ps2/psp/gc? ones .. i usually play elsewere anyway
That's a good point too, although I think fzero gx does right?
Nah PSP doesn't have triggers
I think it does by default, but you can change the controls
oh yeaoh then just ps2 an maybe gc
not really that versed in gc library
What color of the TPU grip is best to match the Purple Thor? 🟪
Black?
I got black personally
but my stuff will not arrive for like 2 more weeks
When did you order? Just asking because I'm about to pull the trigger on the Purple PRO.
nov 2nd, I also got purp pro
they haven't done shipping updates for a couple days but even then they hadn't got through many purple pro orders for a while
they will be shipping more purple pros tonight
Looks like Windows emulation
I ordered on 11/3 and hoping it comes next weeek lol is that reasonable?
How comfortable is the dpad on this? I am alright with the positioning on n3ds xl but thor seems even lower?
better than n3ds xl IMO, the device is thicker and has stacked shoulders after all
For me, the dpad is only an issue when I play games like Mega Man Zero where you're using the dash on L constantly.
But for stuff like Mario or DK where you're almost never using the L button it's fine.
Something out of left field I just thought of
How well does Blue Prince run on this thing?
If it runs fine, it could be very interesting to be playing this on the top screen while taking notes on the bottom screen
hmmmmm
This is a game play footage of Blue Prince (2025) on three different emulators at 720p resolution.
If you want to buy the game:
Steam: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1569580/Blue_Prince/
Winlator(Just-Bionic 1.5.2): Playing this game in Winlator(Just Bionic 1.5.2) was probably the easiest to set up. I used the newest DXVK and Turnip driv...
"playable" (at a low framerate) and that was 2 months ago, so things might have gotten better since
On a device that packs the same SoC as the Thor too
Yeah the video I posted was from four months ago, but inconsistent 30fps.
Not bad tbh. Probably a bit better now
Even a consistent 30fps would be perfectly playable for this game, this isn't exactly a game that requires ultra high framerate
No, PC version with HD update. Better graphic, physic and etc than PS2 version. And better overall.
Woooah good idea
Is this a comparable device? Idk which one it is
Cuz if Thor is more powerful it'd run better
The Odin 2 and Thor, not including Thor Lite, use the same SoC.
I gave up on the steam version of Metaphor and just started streaming it 😅
Steam link works pretty well!
I thought I did okay but now the top right corner has a huge bubble 🙃
New ES DE update is out and it lets you open games on the other screen. This means I can have ESDE open on the bottom screen and it will launch them on top. The focus for the controls also auto switches to the top as well
Seems like just bad protector, I've heard of so many troubles with it
Yeah, at this point I'm just gonna look at getting a protector to cover the screen portion of the bottom panel
To me it’s the fact that it’s trying to protect the entire bottom side. That’s really hard to get right
How does this behave in cases where the emulator uses both screens?
Imagine if ESDE could play custom background music and you put FF7R music in there.
I need this.
3.4.0 Change Log: https://gitlab.com/es-de/emulationstation-de/-/blob/master/CHANGELOG.md#version-340--340-56-in-development
Documentation:
I would love that
What version of Vita3K and what setting is everyone using? I can't get anythign running well and all I have loaded up are "Compatible" games based on their site
Dang it. Going to make me set up es-de now
Does game native have steam achievements working? As far as I know it's only game hub that has that, right?
I love how easy it is to make a short cut from game native to es-de so I'd switch to that if it had achievements working
I used the link from Joey's setup guide and it has worked on all the games I played
You might have to flip between Vulkan and OpenGL for some games, now that I'm thinking about it I did that for 2 games to fix invisible characters
found a small flaw with the launcher
the screen launch option only works with quickstep
and specifically only native shortcuts and app drawer
So widgets or customized docks will just open the app the screen on its on
which in quickstep is just the top
Has anyone tried to run the PC recompilation games? Star Fox 64 in widescreen 120fps would be incredible🥹
Has anyone considered installing a rubber pad around the rim on the top screen to fill the gap?
there's a native android build for Starship
in preparation im converting my ps2 games to chd and ... are they going to work just fine still? will my saves transfer?
why are you converting to CHD?
If you have a way to get them off your memory card, it should work
i'm pretty sure it will work regardless (with nether), I don't think it looks at the file name extention, meaning CHD / Bin won't matter
yep should work just fine. and CHD saves a ton of space. 100% worth it
just buy a bigger memory card instead of wasting all the time compressing no?
i guess CHD's don't really impact perfomance tho?
I thought they didn't run as well... I could be wrong. I use CHDs for sega CD and stuff, but I'm not sure how well PS2 games will run with CHDs, and if there's any issues
OMG!
sick, does this mean it's basically 100% compatiable with Thor or does the menu button still not work when you set it to your home screen?
The menu thing is a fix thats needed by AYN and is coming soon apparently
oh cool. I probably should switch to ES - DE at some point, starting to feel like I backed the wrong horse with Daijisho more and more
they run perfectly fine. I have a 1tb sd card that's nearly full and ps2 games are 300gb of that. they were almost 500 before compression
you can just run the compression on everything overnight as well, it's pretty plug and play
CHD MAN !
someting...
gotta keep the hobby going lol
Is there a linux based version?
I kid you not it has become that lol
i'm sure i'll get Sync thing up and running at some point
not because I particuarly need it but it seems like the next hurdle lo
right there with you
currently trying to figure out how to update games in gamehub without uninstalling and reinstalling
yeah, I think by the end of this i'll be a contributor on git hub open source stuff lol
eden 5.0 features several new downgrades introduced by the beloved Dicem0ney
specifically for the Thor!
CHD files are much smaller than iso's
If you use CHDMAN it can cut at least 80gigs off of that
For some games it reduces the size by over 70%, it’s pretty crazy
namdhc is just a gui to for chdman, chdman.exe is in the directory and doing the actual number crunching
Loving it but here are my complaints:
- the R button sticks. I have to kinda pull it towards me to unclick it. I don't see anyone else complaining so it's just mine.
- if I'm going crazy on the dpad, it's easy to accidentally touch the bottom screen, and then the top screen stops receiving the inputs.
- it needs to be sleeping when the lid is closed. I've accidentally hit the power button and it wakes up. Plug it in? Wakes up. 1 out of 10 times when I just close it normally, it'll sleep for 1 second then wake up. I literally never want it closed and awake.
I have to use a specific one for PS2 though or the PS2 emulator on android won’t be able to read most of them. A bit annoying.
a shame about the bumper, that's happened to me with another handheld. as far as the touch screen, make sure you turn on top screen focus lock to prevent that
i was doing blazblue combos for a video and accidentally took my control away, so going too crazy on the dpad can definitely do that lol
Tpu case removed all accidental power on
Interesting. Maybe the top is clicking a button.
It’s because the case makes the power button more recessed.
Ok. That's at least one of the 3 things causing it for me
Oh there's a button on the menu that stops notifications from waking it too. Let me find that
I can see a case where you'd want the screen to be on while it's closed (when it's hooked to an external monitor with a controller to be used like you would a home console)
awesome
I reckon the best way would be to have "go to sleep when lid is closed" be a toggleable setting (and on by default), and more importantly for that behavior to be consistent. No randomly waking up while the device is still closed.
that's my L2 button
L2? Dang
Oh nevermind - seems like the latest update removed this
Looking at the Shipping dashboard I see order numbers there are 5 digits, but my order I've just did is 6 digit(OD9843xx). Are those different numbers/order types?
Yeah I can see that. I personally have no plans at all to ever hook up to a TV, so I need a "never ever" setting
No, it should be 3 x's instead of 2. Drives me crazy lol
I see, thx! 😉
hey guys i'm the only one that Azahar Emulator keep lagging a lot and freeze for 10sec or more ?
i've tryed citra and no problem there
Shader compiling, citra does that on advance
damn glazed belmont already on the new custom systems hours after new es-de release
does the Thor seem like a polished product or is it wise to just wait?
I'd say it's a polished product
I don't see any downsides to waiting tho
Unless you just want it now
is the screen retention problem being addressed by AYN?
It was a good morning
I still haven't set all my emulators back up but this thing is so smooth
In the Thor button settings, you can lock the top screen. R button sticking just you, id get a replacement or refund.
The sleeping issue really pisses me off too. So far what I can tell is plugging it in or accidental power button press. Id almost recommend turning the device into no notifications, as those might wake up device and cause an issue. Lastly, maybe there's a DND mode can look into
Do you feel the difference in holding the Thor with and without the TPU cover?
I actually haven't played with it having the cover off. I'm using it to protect my stickers.
It's really expensive, I think there's an argument to wait. That being said, it's but looking mostly great
Tpu cover worth it imo
Agreed, tho
@boreal bramble
That and the screen protectors seem like the only good accessories
The rest are pretty awful, I guess the lanyard is ok if that's your thing
Don't like the grip?
No. I think the device is pretty comfortable on its own honestly. Much prefer the poketability
If you do get the grip, the tpu cover is a must
Else the grip won't fit on properly / snugly
And if you like the grip, the case might be worth it then
But I wouldn't recommend the grip
I saw! Sadly the price scares me off haha. I’ll stick with my cheap slime decal for now
Yeah it’s rough if you’re not in Europe ._.
I’m still mad the carrying pouch is so bad
I was expecting psp/vita like sleeve and got a giant bag
AYN branded pillow case
Why the fuck did they put FFTA2's main screen on the bottom? Way better like this.
Well
Some games did it because they want touch
Like the Castlevania DS games
The drawing seal shit
Guess so. Don't remember TA2 doing that, though.
i dont recall it being a touch game, it wasn't the kind that i ever wanted or needed to, anyway
but i could be wrong i played it back in middle school i think
Fantastic game

For those that have the Flip 2 and the Thor, can I just copy my scraper data from the Flip to the Thor? It'll be the exact same games.
Yyy, I got pretty far as a kid and now is a great time to try it again. In between all these other games, lmao.
Can I get a tl;dr? I'm at work, videos are a no-no.
I mean, its price is in line with similarly specced products on the market, I'd say you get a pretty good deal for the added features from having a second screen (provided you actually care about that).
Is that time traveler?
What I can see happening is that a few years down the line when the AYN Thor will start going on sale and more powerful products start showing up on the market, we'll get endless looping debates about whether to get [previous gen cheaper dual screen device] or [newly released, more powerful device running for the price the older device used to go for at release]
Yes naturally, best thing to do is leave this hobby once you get a decent handheld you like
He has done considerable stress testing on the hinge and it's looking very good, even though it has only been 3 weeks
Although he does have the Purple colorway (best Thor)
Then he goes in depth on a few other topics. Def watch the video later it was entertaining and informative
Thanks for the summary! With your reply, I can follow notification chains to find it when I'm home.
Good stress testing from the weakest material (transparent) is good to know
Transparent is actually stronger nowadays depending on the mix they used. Iirc AYN confirmed it is the good mix, too.
If it's the same material vs transparent version of the same material, then transparent will just be weaker. Retroid was different because theirs was made from an actually different material.
I have no reason to believe otherwise for the Thor. Not saying the material is frail tho don't get me wrong. Just weak-"er" if it's the same material
For large file transfers 20+GB, which is the best method? Network transfer, SD card in the Thor, SD card in a reader via PC?
All my android stuff I transfer with FTP
Actually taking the card out into a pc would be the fastest but I don't like doing that
Yeah the NS and PS folders are the largest.
It's going to take hours to transfer both I think
Personally what I like to do is just do them separately
I don't ever transfer everything at once
All the Retro non disc systems first, PS1 next, then PSP etc
I’m doing a system (folder) at a time
Everything but PS2 and NS have been transferred over
I have the Max so I’m trying to pull it all off my Flip 2 SD card.
Have had both RP Flips ( 1 & 2) in the transparent variety and never had issues
A lot of people did for the Flip 1
and a lot people didn't for the Flip 2

Anyway regardless, it's looking for the Thor in general so far
Meanwhile, my clear smoke AP got a crack on the side just chilling on the counter
So I get what your saying with a potentially brittle plastic
Your Thor did or flip2?
Honestly, this is the exact reason I bought black. The way they make clear and other plastic colors is by adding additives to the plastic in order to change the colour. It almost always makes it weaker (similar to why 14k gold is stronger than pure gold)
Sorry for the confusion, AP stands for Analogue Pocket
But I was going with my pseudoscience instincts when I got the purple Thor. I have never had a transparent device with a hinge crack on me b4
😂 in fact the science is so inconclusive that I shell swapped the red lids on the flip 1 (so technically a black Flip 1) and it still hasn't cracked
Clearly the watermelon shell is protecting it
weird behaviour I've noticed is that if I close the lid and put it into sleep, then plug it in to a charger, it seems to wake back up and I gotta re-open and close the lid
not that inconvenient but I feel like I might not have noticed if I didn't have volume on and a game open
I think that's just normal Android behavior (waking up upon being plugged in to a charger), it's just that it's undesirable in this specific case
yeah that's fair, I guess it's what happens without a lock screen to block waking up fully
Image retention is absolutely atrocious on this thing
Not minor or unnoticeable like some people are claiming
Disconnecting as well
The fact that it's so widespread an issue is unacceptable to begin with
The AYN logo does not need to be so bright during boot, this needs fixing
A boot logo should not be causing image retention
The screen is the problem
Nothing to do with a little white being displayed
It only shows it a few seconds to me and then disappears
You guys are turning your devices on and off?
not often, usually just if i have a network issue
holy moly, I never see that on mine, I'll have to try and make it retain something to check
some apps want a full restart occasionally like syncthing or artemis but haven't actually had them glitch out on my thor yet
Going straight from the ayn boot up logo to a grey screen is very noticable, but I can't really make it happen in any other instances
yeah that's pretty brutal evidence but i do have to be honest im not seeing it right now on mine and i wouldn't want to force myself to see it in person and drive myself nuts
Grey is also like the hardest uniform color for a screen to transition to so it's going to show up the worst
Yeah OLED has issues with greys and near blacks so that’s not uncommon
nightmares of vita greys making me freak out
ESDE question: its $6 and 30 days of updates, if a new version drops on day 31 you need to subscribe again for $6 to get the updates?
no you don't have to pay again, but I believe you have to get the update link through the email they send out
Correct which if I understood required an active patreon account?
I only paid once and I still get the emails with update links
Awesome TY
I was getting this while watching movies, it seems like it only happens at certain brightness levels though
I’m definitely not trying to say what it is or not because I wouldn’t know, just saying what I was noticing as well
Turning up the brightness didn’t make it go away for me, just made it less noticeable is all
Does anyone have an opinion on the Thors ergonomics vs a RP5?
I find the RP5 uncomfortable for longer sessions without a grip.
Just reiterating I also got the email and literally just paid once and immediately unsubbed.
Not that I end up using it, I don't like how it forces making its own folders instead of using my own, but eh. $6 was cheap enough to try it and support.
Overall I think RP5 was a bit more comfortable for me, but I did a lot of dpad heavy games. I wouldn't call the Thor uncomfortable though. Both are mostly the same with the grip. Using the triggers on Thor I do find tough because of my hand position
If it's a trigger heavy game I'll adjust my hands though, but it's not as natural
Thanks!
It doesn't require that (anymore) on Android at least as I did buy it and selected my own folders. No new ones were set up
Dammit. I may have to look into it again. Thanks for telling me.
I bought the grip and almost never use it. Somehow I'm ok with the dpad. I expected I wouldn't be. However for shooters where you're primarily using the L and R buttons, definitely need it
Ugh, speaking of L and R, maybe it's because my hands are smaller than average, but god I keep hitting R on accident when I've got a relaxed grip on it.
Tried some Metroid prime and without the grip the right stick and right triggers were not fun to interact with. With grip it was fine
Like if I'm clicking through story and mostly have it weighted in my right hand.
And because of that having a lanyard is really annoying
I got the accessory pack, the grip is nice but not really worth the effort unless you're planning to sit down for a longer session. I really like the TPU case though, I use it all the time.
Yup same. Been playing DS games just fine without the grip
Has anyone tried/succeeded with Sega CD?
What do you mean? That's just retroarch
Works well for me
Ya haven't been able to get anything to load
Tried all cores that were available and my roms are good
Got bios in right spot?
Yup
Well, best to say that all are in the bios folder with all others
And its the same I have working on all other platforms
Picodrive doesn't work for me for some reason but Genesis Plus GX does
Ok, so long as I know it Is working then I'll keep adjusting till it kicks over
Using Retroarch 64
Yup that's what I've tested
I'll keep at it then
Even before the update it would launch the emulator and the emulator would handle the two screens just fine
Grabbed and cycled them all
I’m less likely to pick it up with the grip on, I think because it makes it bulkier and heavier
Yup, I ended up repurposing it for something else
does it just hang on a black screen wwhen loading?
Ya, black screen
double check bios/ target folder
Kinda wild. I haven't noticed any image retention myself at about 50% brightness tho.
You can press the power button once after plugging it in to lock, no need to re open the lid. I hope Ayn fixes that in an update
The source folder was correct on internalstorage, but changed it to the sd card folder and it worked
I have the purple and do not stretch to fill. But I mostly play in low light
The hinge has so far held up great even with my aggressive opening and shutting.
Stretch to fill needs to be disabled and made illegal in the constitution of every nation🤭
Nothing big but I’m happy I can run this right away in GameHub and at 120fps, such a chill fun charming metrovania🥹
Bottom screen for DS is always full screen even for bottom screen intensive games. And if Azahar had that option best believe I would stretch that too
Is this the full price? Are taxes built in?
Everyone i've seen who ordered one didn't get any additional import taxes including myself so yes
thats great
Depends on where you are, what shipping method you chose and your luck, bluntly speaking. 4PX uses some loopholes to avoid import taxes, but you never know if they'll succeed.
If you would have to pick only ONE accessory, which one would it be? TPU shell 🐚 or Grip 🎮?
Personally with normal devices id rather have a good default grip.
Odin 3 doesnt look as good as the Evo grip, but it does look good. A big improvement from the odin 2 grip im certain.
Havent looked at the portal grip case, but atleast with the thor and odin 3 they finally understand that a wider loose grip is much better for comfort.
I had the Odin 1 and 2, and just put mouse tape on it to help with the grip
Kind of like this https://www.reddit.com/r/OdinHandheld/s/TISGNejUuP
the thor is no longer an upcoming device
when will this chat be moved?
additionally, is there any aftermarket triggers?
they're truly kinda terrible
we just need something with a little more curve
I had the image retention issue, and got extremely nervous
I turned the brightness down and never had it again
Forgot about it completely, but it was a big issue when I first saw it, as I thought it was burn in
I never use the brightness that high, but if for some god forsaken reason you do, then yeah be careful
And when I say high, the default had it almost to 3 quarters full, which was the only time I saw it
What if you need to play outdoors and crank it up? Is image retention always there when you use high brightness?
As long as you're not leaving it on a static screen, you should be fine
Both of these guys are dead wrong
Image retention occurs even as low as 15, 20 percent
And it occurs with random artifacts regardless of the length of time they're on the screen.
Sometimes a second or two only
Today finaly sold mine Thor, can say good bye for this chat 😄 it was first my preorder and waiting for information, photos, videos and reviews 🙂 interesting experience, but a little bit sad with result. But i think Odin3 will be more suitable for me 🙂
What didn’t you like about it if you don’t mind me asking?
I didn’t like triggers (horrible, when in games are needed) and ergonomic (grip is strange form too). And i liked concept of 2 screens, it was very fun and good for multitasking and etc. I don’t find love to nds and 3ds games, because switch games or PC indies games are much better.
idk it might vary by device or something but mine has very little retention when actually playing games, i've only noticed it a few times on startup from the logo mostly
it bugs me 0%
I'm not saying that the retention doesn't happen. I'm saying it's temporary and - if you're worried about long term damage - I'd avoid leaving it on static elements for long periods of time
have yall been happy with the thor? I might get the 12gig
I'm lovin mine, played all the gotm games on it, playing aria of sorrow right now
kirby robobot has been a highlight as well
How's the hinge been for people?
It feels smooth and secure. I don’t feel the resistance I felt on my flip 2 v1
Etsy grip. The ayn grip doesn’t fit well without the tpu shell
Do you have an Etsy link by any chance?
By "doesn't fit" you mean "too loose"?
Lots of games do have static elements though, especially retro ones where ui never moves
True. We'll see!
Yeah it’s very loose without the tpu shell
On screen retention, this same thing happened with the ayaneo pocket dmg
Oddly mine is snug to the point it pulled off the screen protector
Mine's not loose at all
How long have you had it
It is from your experience, if I can ask?
Brightness + specific color backgrounds = visible retention. And all the examples posted are people saying “see! It’s right there! Grey background!”
Yeah mine and a few others from day 1 shipments
I just use it with the tpu shell and it’s snug
Since Monday, the screen protector didn't make it 3 days. Ordered a replacement set from AE for $6, we'll see if they are any better
That all seems reasonable to me and same reason why I can’t commit to buying one
Does the TPU give better feel/grip when holding?
Idk if it’s early shipments or time, but mine definitely got looser and looser over time
The grip or shell?
I really enjoy just the tpu shell.
What color was yours?
Black
Same, well then as you said could just be a different batch based on time
The shell, "grip" as a verb 😉
The shell itself does feel good. I would prefer a hard plastic like I used on my 3ds but it gives good protection
The device weight is notable vs the flip 2. Some layouts aren’t gonna be fun to hold long term. But like, I’m 40. Im playing this with my arms/hands supported with a pillow on my lap or with a table under my arms more often than like, free floating.
If you’re gonna be standing up on a train ride playing this for 2 hours I suggest the bigger grip.
I've meant to write "TPU shell" but only TPU came out of it, sorry 😂
I know Joey mentioned he felt the shell was a more comfortable "grip" than the grip itself. I bought the grip initially and skipped the shell but the grip makes it feel a bit too cumbersome for pick up/put down play for me
So I ordered the shell and will probably keep the grip around to use occasionally for trigger heavy stuff
I have the grip case so I just leave it on all the time
Yes
This is a biased answer because I held it for like 5 minutes before the shell went on since
I didn't like the grip attachment tho
Felt too cumbersome
Have they even shipped any thor lites yet
Nope
2025/10/13AYN Thor Black Base: 732xx--741xx AYN Thor Black Pro: 732xx--736xx AYN Thor Black Max: 732xx--737xx AYN Thor White Pro: 732xx--755xx AYN Thor White Max: 732xx--759xx AYN Thor Rainbow Pro: 732xx--737xx AYN Thor Rainbow Max: 732xx--738xx AYN Thor Clear Purple Pro: 732xx--735xx AYN Thor Clear Purple Max: 732xx
Really disappointed with their whole shipping situation honestly
I get that they have high volume RN but it's a bummer all the same
So if I'm scraping and need to stop, it just skips the games I already scraped the next time I run it, right?
The lite probably shouldn't have been made in the first place
sounds like it hasn't been made yet 😂
probably not 😅 i dont see the lite model getting many orders
I mean if the 10 folks who ordered the Lite stick it out long enough, they may be lucky and Ayn just sends them a Base model
Thank you everybody for you opinions about grip/shell.
I've decided I'll switch the grip for the shell in my order. And if my hands will hurt 😉 I'll just order the grip from AliExpress.
I ordered this thing from PartTimeCAD and it just shipped today, so if anyone was hoping for something slimmer but still with ergo grips, I’ll be sure to let you all know how it is once it gets delivered.
https://www.etsy.com/listing/4398311358/
Images for reference.
Will end like the loki mini pro - a true collector’s device 😉
I love the idea of this but the device is really pretty/refined and the layered 3d print look/feel bums me out
Fair enough, personally I’m a fan just for the fact that I usually do really like PartTimeCAD’s stuff, and this does look like a great option for anyone who does legit want just those slight ergo bumps instead of the whole grip, especially for portability.
The part I like the best of this is the support for the sides of the screen and depth needed to press the power button
Sanded/polished + some padding on the part that touches the screen and I’d be all over this
Anyone check out the new ES-DE update on the Thor yet? I see they added the ability to open games on the second screen, that work well? Does it work as the default launcher or does it still lock things up?
Getting ready to set up the wife's Thor today for her birthday Monday, want to do it right.
haha 😄 the loki mini pro is weird, ive been testing switch emulation on that this week
On the other side, this way it is possible to get a purple TPU filament and this way have a purple grip 😉
Bought it last night and played around with it. The launch to other screen worked well (although I kept opening it in the wrong screen anyway 😆)
Have not tried to use it as the start up launcher though since I would end up going to the android interface anyway for other programs.
Yup, it all works pretty well as the default launcher.
I find that I don't usually want to open on the opposite screen but it does work
Keeping launcher on the top and app drawer on the bottom is more how I tend to play
Oh wow, what were you able to run? I have mine basically just sitting around but with a working chimera os (and sound)
oooh i might put chimera on mine. I was trying out Luminescent Platinum and 13 sentinels aegis rim, fairly solid. Tried Xenoblade chronicles X but i don't think thats gonna work on this 😅 did boot
LumiPlat mentioned!
indeed 😄
I'm one of the devs, so I hope you're liking it.
Is there a way to turn the screen off but keep the Thor on? I'll almost never want to do that but wouldn't mind letting it scrape with the screen off
oh damn yes, makes me even more excited for the new version you're working on 😄
We've been really excited too!
i haven't played a switch pokemon yet but i might start from that
It's "fine" without the grip, but I can see myself printing something like that PartTimeCAD grip, that isn't too big, but adds a tiny bit of ergo, holds the hovering corners of the screen, and protects the power button a bit
I imagine the Thor 2 will be marginally slimmer/lighter, with the power button inside and by the screen, like whatever model of 3ds it was
Im just waiting for neuro implants
No risk of damaging the screen when it’s beamed directly to your brain
I'm sure we'll find something to complain about
I find it comfortable as is, the only ergonomic problem the Thor has is the triggers, but unfortunately the grip doesn't solve that
I think a wider 3d print grip like the flip2 grip by protoprintlab will help
I hated the flip2 until I got this
How does Slots & Dagger run?
Q for those of you messing with Gamehub, if a game seems to boot perfectly fine but doesn't recognize controls at all, are there any universal workarounds for that, or is it on a game by game basis?
Game by game, usually games that rely on SteamInput.
Does anyone use this pouch for Thor or Flip 2? Thinking about getting one. https://www.sfbags.com/collections/analogue-pocket-collection/products/analogue-pocket-pouch
I hadn't thought about it but I have one for my AP. Just tried the thor and it's snug but totally works.
Thanks! @errant dome tested it too. It’s snug fit as you said
I am going to get it. Looks great
Thor Lite is just a smoke bomb for killing any potential sub $200 dual screen devices for example RG3DS with T820. “You should just get a Thor, it’s just $250” “You might as well top up $50 to get 8 Gen 2” “You might as well top up another $50 for more color options and more RAM and storage”.
people are already floating the idea of the next dual screen device with a t820 as a reason to not buy the rgds
bro, just buy a steam deck
The apple strategy.
"Might as well spend the extra $80 since it's the same as a 1 tb microsd"
I mean I agree with that lol
I wouldn't use internal as a replacement for a microsd tbh
I like storing all my roms on an sd card
You don't have a choice when it comes to android games, vita and switch
they install to the internal
Isn't that just update files for switch
they add up
Ehhh, just add a few games, play those, and just uninstall the ones you've beaten
speaking as someone who has run out of space on my odin 2 mini with 512 card
i value internal way more now
micro sd is not a replacement for internal space 😄
It is in the context of most emulation
Microsd is just so much more convenient
once a card goes in, it's not coming out unless i plan to stop using it
just made no sense to me after thinking about it
just get bigger internal
For the Thor specifically you'll probably have it as the permanent home for NDS, 3DS and WiiU games.
Most Android games benefit from multitasking too so it might be your main Android game device.
Might as well make it your main Pokemon machine to have them all on one device.
If we're doing that anyway might as well keep Switch games there.
yep
for me personally, the only two models that made sense to me
was the Base or the Max
Base if I plan on not doing anything big and sticking to 3ds and under or Max which is for going all in
Pro was never in consideration 😛
are the sds that come with the system good quality though?
there is no micro sd bundled with the Thor
I would recommend SD cards. If you ever have multiple android systems, you can very easily switch between systems.
Or even Linux based systems with multiple slots / internal storage for the OS usually work fine
This is probably a silly assumption but if one was to order a lite model do you think that would ship faster than the others? Something tells me the base wasn’t as popular but I could be totally wrong
which color is that?
Was black, he custom dyed the shells
@gentle blade this
Sorry, I meant the case
Oh lol
No Lites have been shipped at all yet.
They are focusing on the SD8Gen2 models first.
Wow that’s strange idk why I would’ve assumed they would’ve got those outta the way since they aren’t that popular
I’m assuming
You're right but that means look at it from the other way. Why make the user base that paid more wait longer when they have so much more stock to get through first?
True yeah I get that. I wanted to order a lite because I thought I’d get it quicker but it seems not 😭
Definitely do not get SD865 just for speed of arrival. SD8Gen2 is so much stronger.
Yeah I understand the strength I’ve had a portal in the past. I had a flip 2 and it played literally everything I ever play perfectly just not that comfortable so that’s why I’m fine with the lite
I would not do this specific slide in one but I would recommend the magnet one
Anyone know how to setup fake08 on beacon? Neither core option that I can choose work, but it launches fine from Daijisho with 64
I agree. I love my RP mini. But might I suggest you think about potential resale in the future
If you do that sort of thing
Very true something to think about !!
Did you give melon ds permissions before ?
Yeah, I did
It's launching just fine from melonds
And via Daijisho. It's just something with es-de 🤔
Are you sure it’s launching melon ds?
You have it selected in the settings for ds ?
Yeah, it launches melonds and the error appears in melonds
I've seen people suggest changing the ROM directory in melon to something else then back. I also swapped my NDS folder from all caps to lowercase
Is your folder … yep was just gonna ask if it was lowercase
After you swapped it lowercase try setting it to something else and back again
Ah, I dunno if I tried that yet. Let me give it a shot
Anyone tried persona 3 reload
Hmm. Nope. Is there a way to "revoke" or refresh ROM directory creation in es-de?
(minus uninstalling it)
Are you sure about Switch roms being able to install only on internal. I was hoping those can be saved on SD.
Geez and now I can't get azahar to launch. Maybe I just go back to daijisho
I meant switch updates and dlc
FWIW I have no issues with es-de
I've been running Switch ROMs and updates/DLC on my sd card
Which emu
eden
maybe I'm fucking something up terribly without knowing it, but I've been playing Luminescent quite well and that requires the 1.3.0 update
I remember it still taking up memory on the internal because it installs updates and dlc to it
at least I put both the ROM and update NSP files in the SD card and loaded it on eden there, eden might have just ported the update file over to its own internal storage folder ig
Yea that's what I mean
You can combine DLC and updates into a Switch rom - it's called a "super xci", I think you use SAK to do it
It takes up space twice
ah okay
Never done this before
That way you don't have to use your internal storage
I got the 1TB version anyways and my SD card is 512gb so I doubt it matters for me lol
If you do this it can stay on your sd card
Yep
I've not done it before either, not sure if you can do it with NSPs or you can only do it with XCIs
I've deffo seen Super XCIs around before though
Looks like you can use either XCI or NSP. You just use the respective "update" option for your file type
such a good game 😄
@ornate dune Combining the game, updates and dlc will usually convert the game to xci. At least the one I use does and its been great not having to mess around with installing all that through Eden. It also makes it a lot faster if you want to export/import that data elsewhere since its not bloated with those updates
Oh nice, even if you start with an nsp?
Yep
Using NSC Builder you can merge Switch games, updates, and DLC into 1, instead of separate files. This can be very useful for emulators like Ryujinx and Yuzu, 2 Nintendo Switch Emulators! This can also be useful Nintendo Switch Modding.
compatible with the new MIG Switch for packing xci files (at your own risk)
NSC Builder: https://github.com...
This is the method I use
Ah cool
Just be sure that the game and updates have lower case extensions i.e nsp and not NSP or it won't pick it up when merging
I think I'll finally be doing this myself on the Odin 3, even if I got the 1TB version lol
Is there a convenient way to do something like having your game on the top screen and a keyboard display on the bottom for games where keyboard input is required?
Something like what the Ayaneo 1S DS does would be perfect
is that only for windows handhelds?
Apparently the Android counterpart to that device, the Pocket DS, doesn't actually offer this feature, hence my question regarding whether the AYN Thor had support for this.
yeah its probably an android limitation
Unfortunate if true, this would be such a great help for emulating home computer games (think MSX and Commodore 64) where there are a bunch of games that occasionally prompt the user for keyboard input but are otherwise controller friendly
well i stand corrected
That seems to be what I'm after. Does this support latin keyboard layouts other than QWERTY? (AZERTY in particular comes to mind)
It's all in Chinese so I have no idea how to change the language.
Just posting it to show it exists
Did you get this sorted out?
for people using ES-DE who have not yet set-up the gamehub lite integration:
🎮 Launch Steam Games Directly from ES-DE! | AYN Thor + Gamehub Lite Integration Guide ⚡
In this video, I’ll show you how to launch your Steam games directly from the ES-DE frontend using Gamehub Lite — no need to switch apps or dig through menus! 🚀
We’ll cover everything step by step:
👉 How to download and install the latest E...
I am using robzombie's steam files repo. I find it to be a bit easier compared to creating the files myself. This is also reference in the ES-DE user guide
So I got my Thor…. It’s actually even better than expected. I kind of feel bad for my other devices now.
We’re all wondering the same thing
When the Lite ships lol
You should not order a lite, they don’t seem to be shipping much
They have not shipped any Lites and they said they won’t start shipping them until the end of November.
It’s so hard to resist buying a Thor. Everyone seems to love it…
I had high hopes but I am even surprised by how many games I rather play on it over my Portal hah
Why resist is so fu king good
I dont want to play on anything else apart from this. Its so good
Ooh where did they say that? I know they've said the Odin 3 is shipping end of Nov, but didn't know they've mentioned the Lite
There's messages from Nicole in the Thor Shipping Channel
Ah, nice one!
This is epic. Saving it.
I mainly care about ds games and I bought a surface duo right before these dual screen devices were announced…
I would prefer a RG DS with strong SoC and integer scaling but alas
Should I stay at v2.1 or get the latest 2.2b for NetherSX2?
its challenging isn't it 😄
I was likely gonna get the base 8gen2 if I decide the Thor is what I want, but I forgot that ArmSX2 will be a thing in the future. That may make PS2 more playable on the 865 to where that's perfectly good enough for me.
8Gen2 is fairly overkill for what I wanna do on the Thor
Anyone here have trouble installing PC games on game hub? Non steam versions?
Which version? Apparently one of the later releases messed up this function.
Following up on my own vid, this is another way to handle the import of steam files in ES-DE: https://github.com/blacksheepmvp/mjolnir
Have not tried it though… was posted on the ayn discord
Ok but what’s the verdict
Oh really?
I did not expect to love it so much that I don't care anymore about any of my other handhelds but here we are
I'm selling my RG476H, I don't need anything else when it comes to emulation
yeah an update killed sd card function for one, hopefully that gets fixed
If you haven’t sold devices before, the this discords buy/sell/trade was an astounding experience. Sold 4 devices after getting the Thor
Gamehub used to use the SD card?
I probably still need to get rid of my ayaneo pocket dmg
Yeah i could add games that are on my sd card to it
Just grab some snacks and drinks and watch the video
You can watch it while playing on your Thor
Perfect use of dual screen haha
Lol I’m currently buried under a 4yo who I’ve successfully lied to that it’s midnight for the last hour (640am now).
These devices are aspirational. The Thor is really comfortable to fall asleep playing after my kids are out
I like clamshell too for the same reasons. It’s convenient to bring along in my pocket around home and take out to play while putting my kids to sleep
Your kids sleep??
Yeah I sit outside their bedroom for while they try to sleep
More or less for me, but inside the room
After we read like 1000 books
And I have to stay there for at least 15 minutes after they fall asleep otherwise they would notice when I leave
So that’s my daily routine playing time
Do kids go to sleep by themselves exist or something influencers invented
I’ve got two boys, 4 and 7. Human tornados
We still have managed to get them in their rooms by 7pm each night but when they actually go to sleep varies drastically
Yup exactly. Got 2 girls and a boy
My kids are similar. They take at least one hour to fall asleep
The multiple times a night wake up is rough. My wife got me an Oura ring and I stopped wearing it because it’s like:
“you need more sleep”
Thanks ring
“Your heart rate variable is low. That means your fight or flight response is active at all times”
Yes, ring. How else do I not scream in surprise when a 4yo wakes me up face to face at 2am?
Having kids is the main reason I am into these retro handhelds and retro games because I don’t have time to play a 100 hour open world game in front of a tv
Waiting for the conspiracy theories to start from PDS owners after that video from Russ 😬
- quick resume
- save states
- back in my day games ended
I remember when the first of the new god of wars came out when my oldest was born and I’m like yea I’ll get that game. The others were like 10-15 hours or something
Yup same. Ever since my son was born it's been handhelds only
Also it’s weird the cycles we go through with like, the need for ownership/autonomy? the same reasons the original gameboys resonated with me when I was a kid is the same reason I love handhelds now.
They’re mine. They stay with me. They’re not a share with the home device
Lots of time spent in a walk in closet with a kid strapped to me, lights of, and playing a switch lite, just kinda bouncing from side to side so they sleep
Mine only falls asleep in one specific way. I have to rock him on my lap while sitting on our bed. I can only pull out the handheld when he's fast asleep on my lap
Oh snap. You’d have loved the single hand let’s go pikachu pokeball controller experience
I am kind of interested in the Miyoo Mini Flip for this reason lol
I love many of these retro handhelds are still small, because for this specific use case, Steam Deck or Switch 2 won’t work.
fuck, let me grab my snacks and drink first then I'll watch 😄
Don’t let your dreams be dreams
Only thing holding me back is my bad eyesight
I don't think I could handle a screen smaller than the RG34XXSP I have
I havent tried tbf
I mean, I currently am preferring the Pocket DS, but that’s mostly due to me having issues with the Thor that seem exclusive to mine currently, I don’t blame Russ at all for preferring the Thor considering it’s still a really good handheld.
Sounds like those XR glasses are in your future
What issues?
Left Speaker sounds really oddly worse than the Right Speaker, even with EQ (like, it literally buzzes any time it goes up to a certain volume for specific noises).
That sucks. I’m real sorry to hear it. AYN support open to exchanging?
Like, it’s significantly worse than even the RP5 and Flip 2, and the fact it’s only the left speaker makes it feel like it’s an actual issue on my end.
hmm that does feel like a hardware fault yeah
I’d honestly prefer to just replace it myself, but yeah regardless I am planning on asking Ayn for replacement speakers (since I’m not sure if they manufacture them in a way that allows them to send just the left one).
I’ve found that exactly stating what I want when sending support emails to these handheld companies has gotten me the exact results I asked for. Vs leaving it open to them
If you’re comfortable replacing it, ask them to send you both (zero harm in replacing both)
Nd that’s brutal if it’s worse than the retroids. Loved those devices but wow was the sound tough
Nope. Seems like others have had the same issue but none of the fixes are working for me
https://www.reddit.com/r/retroid/comments/1n1aurp/esde_melonds_could_not_find_rom_error_but_works/
Tried changing the case on my NDS folder and redirecting the ROM folder in melonds but neither worked
Latest Azahar won't launch either
(from es-de)
Are you running them as the default or 'Standalone' option in ESDE
I've tried all of the options just in case I had the wrong one selected. It seems to be the correct one because it launches the emulator - it just can't find roms
But then, once the emulator is open, I can navigate back to rom selection and launch within melon
I want to say for my issue it was related to the Save folder and not specifically the ROM folder
Once I reset that my ROMs read correctly
Hmmmm that makes me even more curious to watch it .... shame I can't for next 3 hours
Also specifically have ESDE point at Standalone (since the regular ones wouldn't load in dual screen mode)
Yeah, it's pointing to the right place. I'm not sure what's up
Hmmm I'd say next step is to delete and recreate the save folder, maybe just have it as the same folder as the roms.
I did that too 🤔
I might back up my scrapes then delete es-de and reinstall. I have a feeling it has something to do with the NDS folder being uppercase and pre-existing when I installed ea-de
Did you have ESDE create folders or point at preexisting? I had preexisting, also oddly my 3ds is lower and my ds is upper so not 100% sure is should be the issue, but then tech is funny like that 😄
I pointed to existing, yeah
This might be a good point I've always had ESDE create the roms folders/ directory then I filled the directory.
Im torn on what color to go with, whats some opinions?
Black is great if you want the bezels to basically vanish on the bottom screen especially. White and Rainbow are good for really hiding the smudges from the glass bottom panel. Clear Purple is a fun color.
Fixed! It was a case issue. Had to delete everything, revoke storage permissions from es-de, have it regenerate the folders, copy roms into the folders, then reselect the directory in melon ds
Purple also has a pretty decent bezel disappear in low lighting
I don’t know if I’d agree on less smudges on white. At least during setup and with the screen protectors
Yeah if I were to do it again, I might go with black
I mean, it’s $50 savings, and the “lite” processor is plenty for DS and 3DS. Some people can’t justify $300 for something that they’re just going to use a little here and there for 3DS.
The white really shows every little spec of dirt
hm, i was considering the white, looks nice and i go with black devices a lot...I have the purple RP 3+ so the purple seems natural but i kinda dont like the ribbon cable being so visible.
is it as bad as it seems in videos ive seen?
maybe purple or black...hmm
they send a black insert if you don't like the ribbon cable
The white really captures that classic new 3ds look though. I've had two people see it and ask if I bought a 3DS 😅
the only thing holding me back from the purple is the opaque on the inside really ruins it for me, I wish it was all transparent
That's what really made me move away from the purple myself
Kinda ruined the whole point for me
Especially since that's the part I'd want to have transparent the most.
I love my white Thor. Its so sleek
damn i am so torn still lol
i thought purple, but then read that
i dont know if i care too much but with the ribbon cable, to be covered by the insert, and the front isnt transparent anyway...
but its still purple, one of my fave colors...
black looks nice though
and i dont have overly greasy hands so smudges may not be as bad as the fingerpainters lol
I like the look the of the ribbon cable, I ordered it to be clear and it is lol
definitely a dumb move but I still went with purple. Really don't understand why they couldn't just do transparent glass
is there a site with non promo pics?
the reflection and hiding of the ribbon cable is annoying
in the promo pics

The AYN Thor might be the most interesting new retro handheld this year, bringing powerful dual OLED screens to market and filling a niche that hasn't really had much competition thus far.

may go purple...
When are they onto second batch? Wouyld they make any changes? Like different triggers?
My goodness, the purple looks so nice…
Shame it’s locked behind the Pro and Max skus. I would’ve really liked to have had it on the base model at the least, but AYN has always done color options this way x3
do you guys recommend the accessories pack?
Personally no, they say you can't have both screen protectors installed and still close it, the soft pouch is massive, and personally I would be annoyed having the lanyard attached to my Thor. I just got the grip and grip case on their own
is the use case only to prevent scratches or is there another benefit?
i may just go with grip and case...
all I needed was grip, mine is an indoor thor
would they change anything in a second batch?
I like the feel and the extra grip it provides. I don't like the actual grip attachment tho. Mostly that I want my "3DS" to be flat.
is the sscreen protector worth it on the top screen? at least to provide protection against the tabs it rests on while closed?
They are contantly producing these and shipping them you will wait roughly 2-3 weeks from ordering to get it shipped and no they aren't going to change anything on the device like triggers.
The top screen may or may not fit properly. Mine was Just to big by a hair so it never sat flush. The bottom was fine (no closing issues) but the grip can pull it off
too bad about the triggers, considering this device plays trigger heavy games...
damn I have the same problem with my rp5 but dont feel like doing this rn lol
the odin 2 has a reduced price, do yall know when that occurred?
Get a tomtoc case, it is not a hard shell, but you will have space for other stuff and the grip
Does this also work with nsz files? I’m looking for the quickest way to make these emulator compatible when you have a bunch.
Sorry, I've never used nsz so I dont know
NSZ files will install on a normal Switch, but as far as I know, they don't work on emulators. If you have NSZ files, you need to use SAK's "decompress NSZ to NSP" function to get the files working on emulators. That's what I've had to do with Ryujinx on Windows in the past. Never tried an NSZ on Android or with Eden, but I always assumed they didn't work
sounds tricky
I mean all you do is put a file in a folder and click a button lol
oh, for the nsz back to nsp thing?
Yeah
i've done chdman and psx2psp so i cant imagine this being too much harder than making .pbps function honestly
and i think pbp was only trouble because on funkey OS devices they wouldnt work unless you put them on worst compression level for some reason lol
everywhere else was just a mental block
i might give it a try for monster hunter, maybe that might get it working on my thor after all
I mean decompress and then merge all in one go to save time.
You could try it and see
what does the Max unlock over the Pro?
Main reason you'd go max I think is if you want to go all in on gamehub since it's internal only
