Yeah, unless I outright fall into collecting these things, all of my reasonable usecases are covered by these three devices.

• The Steam Deck for when I need a gaming laptop that cosplays as a console (so my more demanding games in my library) and I can't justify lugging around my actual gaming laptop
• The RG 35XX H as the cheap, disposable handheld that I can carry around without fear of financial ruin if my clumsy ass drops it into a lake or something similarly stupid while still being able to play the older retro games on it
• The AYN Thor for having an actually portable option to play what the RG 35XX H can't, meaning Gamecube+PS2+Wii(+Switch? I don't actually have that many games I'm interested that are Switch exclusives) and most importantly DS and 3DS, while also having the oomph for some more non-retro games in my library

The only remaining case I might possibly want a separate device for would be "portable device for when I absolutely require a physical keyboard" (so things like the GPD Win Mini) but even if I actually wanted to, my financial situation would not allow it

Maybe, years down the line, I'll want something that can take over the role of my Steam Deck while being more powerful and more portable, once such a device exists. I don't expect one such device will exist (and be affordable to me) until at least half a decade from now, if not a full decade.

Either that or a compelling upgrade to the RG 35XX H while being just as dirt cheap, and even then I'd have no reason to upgrade unless I have an issue with the RG 35XX H and need to replace it in the first place so that would probably not happen until the relentless march of time claims it.

I'm not even sure what such an upgrade would entail, since "better specs" would be covered by me having the AYN Thor (once I get around to actually ordering it )

Nah, it’s just the Flip 2 raises the plastic to match the Trigger height to have more of a wedge shape. Mainly since people didn’t like having the triggers sticking out so much on the original Flip.

Don’t ask me on why the Thor is now going back and changing that again, I was frankly always fine with both either way.

As Joey said well in his review and I'm paraphrasing, if you're only wanting to play ds/3ds and aren't interested in (that retro console?) switch or game hub it's fine. PS2/GC are fine on the sd865.

It's not a budget thing for me, I could afford the higher SKU if I wanted. It's an rp5 with 2 screens and the community is quick to forget what previously worked well when the next shiny CPU appears especially when the bottle neck is still software.

It's not so bad here but in the Ayn discord it's terrible for shaming anyone who bought a lite.

SDG2 doesnt just let you play winlator and swithch better. PS2 and Wii is smoother woth less tinkering at full resolution. You also get better battery life and WiFi, storage speeds

I encounter a lot of stuttering and crashes on 3DS unrelated to shader compilation in certain titles, and some games just can’t maintain a solid frame rate . Fire Emblem Awakening, and Majora’s Mask are two examples where I’d classify them as playable but not not a great experience

I am hopefully getting it this week, but I’ve never had issues with ram before and that includes texture packs for ps2/gamecube and also some switch games I’ve tried. Never messed with game hub though

I think a lot of it is the quality of 3DS emulation on Android, but I can see from YT demonstrations that performance is pretty much universally better on the Thor Pro than what I’ve experienced on RDS.

I would say that Switch emulation on the RP5 is also a mixed bag. Stuff like MK8 runs flawlessly, but Pokemon Violet for example is very framey

Daijisho/ES-DE are the two best options imo. Daijisho is free, ES-DE requires a one time purchase via Patreon.

ES-DE is still in active development whereas Daijisho is dead, but Daijisho supports touch and ES-DE only supports touch via a controller overlay which is a big downside for me.

Console Launcher added dual screen support, but personally I haven’t seen anything compelling from any of the front end developers when it comes to dual screen support. None of them seem to be taking actual advantage of the dual screens, and I think ES-DE or Daijisho on top and Android on bottom is actually superior, but I know some people hate seeing Android at all
