#AYN Odin 3

u dont need 24gb
16gb is enough for PC games up to 2027 average
after will be 24gb standart and above (bc of ps6)
Like I said before 16g wont be a straight 16g in winlator because every thing running uses the same ram
And thats not including the os backend using the same ram
also worth noting that 24GB is combined RAM, because the GPU uses system RAM, as opposed to having dedicated VRAM like a desktop GPU
so if a game needs 8GB RAM + 2GB VRAM, you’re already at 10GB there, add Android and Winlator overhead, and you’re already over 12GB and nearly filling up 16GB
I think 16GB will be fine for most games the 8 elite can emulate, but the extra headroom from 24GB is nice for peace of mind
also, and I don’t see many people addressing this, computers do not like to be run at nearly max RAM, you’ll see performance degradation once you hit 90% RAM usage or so
Yep! Trying to tell em! I need more than 16g 13 after winlator for ff7 7th heaven running steam the mod program and the game
life I think most users will be perfectly fine with 16GB, probably even 12GB
but for power users, especially those of us who enjoy PC emulation on a small handheld, there’s a major advantage to giving yourself that extra headroom, just in case
it can emulate any game
just need turnip
Turnip won’t reduce RAM usage
it will
in fact it might increase it
no
we have now huge mem leak, and doesnt on gen3 devices with turnip, without have too
all my team members
running the GPU more efficiently will reduce the GPU bottleneck and allow more RAM to be used as VRAM
not correct
okay well I’m sure you know everything because your name is green
but nah I’m just saying that headroom could very well be useful for some games that push the whole system
true, but it will be like 5% of all games ask/need
won’t be needed for 90% of games the system can run, but also, $80 for 8GB more RAM and 512GB more internal storage is pretty reasonable
Max is more than good enough for me, but if I can afford by the end of next year (around when I planned to get it), I may as well get the Ultra
have a feeling that if they had made a "mega" SKU with 32gb of RAM it would have sold as well
not physically possible, but yeah probably
especially if it was like a <$100 upgrade and came with 2TB internal storage
Fyi. Qualcomms spec sheets usually just match the specs of whatever reference device they use for display when the chipset is announced. It usually isnt the full capability of the chiset.
Display capabilities are almost always wrong. So you can treat it as "atleast" whatevers on the sheet.
Anyone know if the Odin 3 with the air cooled and potentially oc'd Elite would perform similarly to a stock 8 elite g5
it will not, but it may be more stable
unless you're comparing to an 8e gen 5 phone from a company that does proper cooling, of course
it will be more stable, but performance not even close in any possible case
this boi fly in sky always
"not even close" seems a bit of a stretch, isn't 8 gen 5 only 15-20% better?
25%
and 25% more eat (consumption) on max load
ah fair, I was just going off Qualcomm's claims
it's worth noting the Odin 3 Ultra is half the price of the RedMagic 10S Pro 24GB/1TB model
oneplus15 (8 Elite Gen5)
but I'm sure I'll be getting an 8 elite gen 6-7 handheld some time in the future
compared to...?
I don't have 8 elite CPU mark scores memorized lmao
He does.
13 for example (8 Elite)
that's pretty significant
told u
I'd still rather have an Odin 3 over a phone with a controller grip, though
the most funny part is in emulation
noob on gamehub with default setting get 10 fps more than we on max modded Elite with best possible settings and drivers
(with OUR CUSTOM gamehub even)
and its 30% gain average vs us, vs default user it 40+%

that's pretty cool!
doubt we'll see a handheld running it for awhile, though
and one gen behind is pretty tolerable imo
compared to back when handhelds were using 3-5-year-old chips
we actually get 8 Gen2 for 220$ so ...
and Gen3 for <250$ it still sick
so in next year gen2 device cost like 175$ (but somone else should use it too, and be cheaper than rp6, otherwise price drop wont be that huge)
someone needs to slap gen2 or gen3 into a device that isn't as fugly as the RP6
They did. It's called the Konkr Pocket Fit.
Konkr's gonna be $300 after launch so I'm not really paying attention to its $240 price point
-# *cough*
sorry, isn't as fugly and has an OLED display
I am highly opinionated on this, fuck LCDs, it's 2025, nobody should be putting LCDs in a handheld that costs over $200
They did, it's called the Odin 3.
-# Except it looks exactly like the RP5. Nevermind.
-# but that's a point in its favor
-# the RP6 is so weird looking, it's like an RP4P, a Switch Lite, and a PSP all had a baby, and it somehow got the inbred traits of all three genomes
nah they released two new handhelds
Clucking shell !
Too many new devices too quickly. 😬
- RPG2, which appears to be the same shell and display as the RP5, but with a G2 gen 2
- RP6, which is a new, weird design, with a 120hz screen and 8 gen 2
I will say though, the turquoise RPG2 is beautiful
it's weird because I think 8 gen 2 w/ dpad bottom in the same form factor as RP5 would've knocked it outta the park
WTF is going on with the 4 buttons on the chin.
two of them are extra mappable buttons
y'know, what most other handhelds use paddles for
I'm wondering if Retroid saw people saying they wanted return to RP2S design and took that desire entirely the wrong way
people: I want modern-chip RP2S (the not-all-glass front and boxy design)
retroid: they want modern-chip RP2S (chin buttons)
I just don't get why you have both systems that are so similar and priced almost the same. Really feels like a D1100 vs SD865 situation which also made little sense. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
I hope there will be an odin 3 portal
eeww i didnt realize how big the bezels were on the rp6
looks like a step backwards in design
i want a mini instead, and hopefully should release next
Eden v0.0.4-rc1 has been released, bringing (amongst other things) Switch emulation to Snapdragon 8 Elite
No turnip required baybee
oooh
is this as big as it sounds?
Improved stock Qualcomm driver compatibility
This initial support also improves overall game support on 8 Elite devices.
Future releases will expand upon this.
okay sounds promising
Yeah dude, join the AYN Discord, go the odin 3 channel, and search for videos from the user hatsunemikurose. They've been testing the new Eden on their 8 Elite phone for the past month or so and sharing the results. It's impressive
even better to check the Eden discord
miku posts even more stuff there, they just occasionally cross-post to the ayn discord
Do you have a link to the Eden discord?
can't share discord links in this server, but it's mad easy to find by searching the web anyways
Honestly I might end up jumping over the Odin 3 if IGG shits the bed for Konkr and I have to get a refund
It's a bit pricey compared though for me tbh
399 for 12+256 when the Konkr G3 is 259 is rough
What’s igg done to want a refund?
they did a big overhaul of the site which has been a little weird
Yeah some people's account are seemingly gone, and some people who already requested to cancel their order a while ago still haven't gotten any information in regards to refunds
I'm convinced people literally just don't know what a web search is anymore
tbf comparing Odin 3 pricing to Konkr G3 pricing is a bit apples to oranges
I do find it interesting how Konkr scales up a lot steeper though
since Konkr elite 24GB+1TB is the same price as Odin 3 24GB+1TB
like it's a $40-50 price gap at every other level, then suddenly the same price at the top level
I think the top version of Konkr is a very limited number and a unique colour scheme that's prob why
huh?
I'm just working to be-brand my "dude, just google it" response lol
I was being sarcastic. Like "what's a web ? Is it a facebook ?"
since google's AI shit makes it actively worse as a search engine than alternatives, and "dude, just duckduckgo it" doesn't really roll off the tongue
OHHHHHH
sorry, that went totally over my head
No worries. 🤓
been a weird morning so far, my b
Your comparing a g3 chip to a elite of course the g3 will be cheaper
Outside of Eden now supporting Elite chips, all quiet atm rn. Although we'll probably be getting reviews sometime early next month as the Odin 3 will be shipping soon
yeah, we're just waiting on production and shipping, at this point
i decided to just wait for Portal version of O3 ... and decided on how driver support for elite is at that time
That's, not the comparison I was making still lol.
It's €150+ more which is still pretty ridiculous
Because I know the chip doesn't cost that much more
Do we have any numbers to verify that? Not dismissing it just curious
Odin 3 ordered 🙂 now just wait 🙂
Not really o3 with elite chip and a oled 150 dif isn't bad especially after early bird prices it isn't that much different fir the konk elite it goes to 399 for the konkr after early bird which is how much the o3 is
I’m thinking the same here now
Or 7” will be held by x86 device
tbh portal is better for steaming than most x86 ones 😄
I haven’t even put an hour on my Thor yet. So little time….
i have been thoring at work
I bring it to work. I basically only touch it if I see any news/updates on emulators and try out for a bit
i started pkmn platinum 😄 while waiting for script to compile
i do not mean to alarm you but your pokemons are looking sus
also, obviously the o3 will be much more powerful, but its worth asking, with the redesigned pocket 6, is the o3 really worth 2x the pocket 6?
It all depends on what you want to do with it
The only use I see is winlator/gamehub. but then just get a x86 lol
im looking for switch, pc id probably just stream if I can't cap the framerate
Nothing g sus there
I guess up to switch is more accurate
Lots of devices out there
im very much aware of that, daunted by it even lol
the 8 elite grabs my attention purely cause maybe it can do BOTW and TOTK at 60 in the future
I would even look at the Thor, at least you have libraries that you have access to (ie. Ds, 3ds, etc)
Heh. future
I have a modded DSi so ds games arent a great sell for the thor
and 3ds has like 2 good games
Well you have a second screen for whatever you want to do with it
There must be a way to get two instances of Balatro going
the 8gen2 struggles with the difficult switch games, no? botw, totk, hyrule warriors
If you’re aiming specifically for ttok and botw, then I guess elite is your best bet.
Otherwise botw and Hyrule I think was getting 30fps
But I can’t remember
For sure I was getting that on the dmg
(Dmg still my fav for actually playing retro games+)
you telling me the best I can get is 30fps on those?
It also played botw ttok and Hyrule very well.
PC gaming has got me ruined
Even more awesome when applying the 4:3 patch
I do it all. From handheld retro to pc vr
….when I have the time and energy
does 30 not bother you on a handheld? i wince every time my fps drops below 100 on PC lol
It did at first. But you get acclimated to it
i was hoping for at least 60 which is why I was considering the O3 lol
I can only imagine you would get 60 in certain areas. Not all.
what about using Cemu?
For example I don’t think anything will get 60fps at the first village when you make it back to the ground level
Haven’t tried cemu
maybe ill just get the pocket 6 and call it a day
i'll just gamestream botw and totk at 120 lol
but then again maybe the thor would be more convenient
personally theres just something about streaming that don't feel right to me. thats why i always try to run native, if possible
when will be released similar size x86, i will be first minute buyer 😉 until then odin3 will be superb for this
ive been chasing a similar sized x86 as well. i have the ayaneo air, but its underpowered and battery life is shot. the other one i wanted is the onexfly f1 pro.
winlator/gamehub compatibility and performance just isnt there for me yet, and is more of a gimmick imo
depends on your tolerance for pc gaming i guess
i have at home lenovo go s with steamos and z1 extreme, but i want second one more portable
this is why i didt touch my ally for a year lmao
but then i bought the 80wh ally battery and also got fed up with winlator
for my gamehub it is enough, but Odin2 Portal doesnt have enough power and i want even smaller device
il have to check out the recent elite gamehub benchmark/gameplay vids
does elite have frame generation?
it can already do BotW over 60fps on latest Eden, not sure about TotK though
8 gen 2 is good for BotW, but yeah it struggles a bit on TotK
was there a 60fps patch for age of hyrule? i cant remember
y'know, I'm not sure – I think NX Optimizer / Ultracam supports it, but I'd have to check the docs
was there a memory leak in those patches? i do remember playing ttok initially started at 60fps, then later on it goes back to sub 30s
everything i see online is capped at 30
at least on pc
The Legend of Zelda BotW | SD 8 ELITE | New 8 Elite Gen 5 Driver | Eden v0.0.4 |
EDEN Emulator (android) - The Legend of Zelda BotW on Eden v0.0.4 with the Snapdragon 8 Elite and trying to run it at 720P, also running the 8 Elite Gen 5 Driver 842.8. Game was running at a playable framerate in most parts, 25-30FPS in balance mode. There were no...
that dude is not even locked at 30 in the great plateau
i guess if i do keep the odin3, its more fair to see it as a tinkering device personally
wonder what enhanced means. frame gen?
if so, 27fps with frame gen on is sad
not sure – it looks like NX Optimizer doesn't support Age of Hyrule, but there is this mod that got a V2 update earlier in the year
oh wait that's age of calamity
wait age of hyrule isn't even a game
I am confused now
yeah i got the name wrong lol
hyrule warriors: age of calamity
i dont know if i would grind through that again anyways. i'll play the new one when that one comes out instead
Do you know when shipping to Europe will start?
Shipping is currently planned to start end of Nov, and they haven't said it's been delayed. It'll be done in batches of SKU and the lower IndieGoGo Contribution IDs will ship first.
I'm excited. I have a really low order# this time.
what are you excited most from the odin 3?
From someone who has an OG Odin 2, the input latency for me
Plus the dpad has been moved slightly inside
Should feel more comfortable
Of course oled high refresh rate is nice as well.
Looked at the Odin 3 colors. The blue one speaks to me.
The clear blue is my favorite for sure.
Really hoping we see the footage and photos of it soon
They said in the AYN server they’d show sometime in the first half of November if I’m not mistaken
Hey guys, do you know when the pre order discount ends?
It already has.
It's for sale on Ayn's website.
AYN Odin 3: The Ultimate 6''120Hz OLED Gaming HandheldQualcomm 8 Elite | Customized Full HD 6" AMOLED Touch Screen | Android 15 | 8000mAh Battery | Hall Sticks | 390g | Ergonomic Grip Notice: There are no games preinstalled in Odin 3. Think pricing is still SEB pricing on their site after they have to prematurely end the igg campaign (due to the igg changes), not sure when it will goes to retail pricing (if ever), maybe after shipping starts?
Oh
I think you're right… 😮
The 16/512 is $450, which I remember being pretty close to the IGG price.
Yep discount pricing
Kind of annoying for the IGG backers, but I won't complain if we get it a bit earlier.
glad to see that we still have men of culture in our society
but yeah AYN needs to drop something already
it's been a hot minute
Do we think this is worth getting now for Gamehub Lite/Steam games? I know it's not as mature, but "Steam Deck Lite" is something I'd appreciate
There’s a good amount of games that play surprising well through Gamehub now, so yeah, I would say so.
It’ll only keep on getting better too (within reason provided chip bottlenecks)
I have zero interest in getting PC Handhelds with how bulky and big they are, so this with Gamehub Lite for on-the-go PC gaming, and streaming a gaming PC to it when I’m at home and want to play something that doesn’t play in Gamehub is my dream setup
Gamehub/Gamenative have been working hard on getting more games working on these arm chips, which is crazy impressive
yeah, I have no desire to play AAA stuff on this. It would be for indies & things that a Steam Deck would handle just fine
Plus with local Game Streaming becoming more viable, i definitely see this being a great indie machine and secondary streaming device
It’s more of a long-term “maybe I get these in the coming years” kind of plan for me, but I want to get a mini PC and put SteamOS on it and have it be the main way to play Steam games at home for my family and I, and even stream it to the O3
My Mac Mini has made me really appreciate how genuinely great, easy to set-up and move around and versatile mini computers are compares to big desktops.
You can place them in more places and in more variety of desk set-ups
Getting a PC handheld isn't an awful idea either in 2025, they're just good enough for casual TV play. (I'll be honest, I haven't looked at what $1k USD gets you in a mini PC compared to a PC handheld, I guess that's worth it if you're already sold on an Odin 3 LOL)
Yes! Im currently using a Beelink SER7 with 780m graphics and the amount of games I can play (hell even a good chunk of modern games) at medium to highish setting shocks me. Even the more heavier stuff I have to run at low are still playable for what I want to do
I learned this morning that the Antec HS Slide is currently $450 and agonized for a hot minute about switching to that from Odin 3, but ultimately think I'd prefer the battery life and screen of the O3
not as good for AAA PC game compatibility, but Gamehub should be great for all the PC indies I currently want to play, so eh
Right. 1080p 60fps on pixel art, 720p 60fps on non-pixel art (Hades 2 as an example) is probably good enough for me, pixel density seems fine for 720p on the 1080p screen (as much as I love pixel-perfect everything)
I really don't see the point of such a small keyboard.
oh. LOL
Around 1000, you start getting into the AI chips and their performance, which is another can of worm, but under 1000 you have alot of solid options
What the hell, that's insane
oh yeah, not remotely interested in the HS Slide' keyboard, I just like that it's roughly Odin 3 size (but thicker and heavier)
Oh OK. 🙂
I think they should've nixed the keyboard and put the money towards a better screen
ok but how much tuning was required to get this? I'm hoping to keep the tuning to a minimum. I think TechDweeb had a vid for some settings for example, that's the most I'm willing to tweak LOL
but also it's literally just a rebranded Ayaneo Slide so I don't think Antec did any R&D there lmao
I think just a few config changes? not sure though, just performance I saw on YT.
but also, if you want to run PC games on an Android handheld, expect to tinker
The pros: Very powerful for price, sliding screen is cool, decently sized battery for how compact it is
The cons: The screen does not get dim no matter what and it is very bright in a dark room, not great for bed. Also screen, it is washed out and the colors are not great. The sliding mechanism is cool, but springs and the LCD ribbon on the back are exposed. Didn't break for me, but you definitely have to be careful. Also, this thing is heavier than a steam deck. It is not a light device.
(from a Reddit post)
Gamehub has decent defaults, but tweaking them can still be helpful
I’m a tinkerer, but not a troubleshooter (as a hobby), if that makes sense
keep in mind that Gamehub Lite doesn't get the benefit of automatic config downloads that og Gamehub does, so if you want to use the decompiled + recompiled version, you will have to tinker to get games working well
although at some point they may integrate it with Emuready, which could be very cool
Either way I’ve been convinced to keep Odin 3 (or at least the chip) on my radar now. I’ve got funds tied up in other things (new PC handheld this year for me) but that’s usually too bulky for my flights IMO
It’s crazy, I was very gung-ho about Portmaster last year on RP5, thinking that was gonna have to be the default for a few years on very select games
I had manual Syncthing folders set up and everything LOL
Tbh, the 8 Elite will be definitely help push more game on to ARM chips! Plus with the word that more devs are wanting to bring proper full fledged games on to android, im very in the future of these devices
Combined with GameHub/Winlator and the Emulation side growing, things have gotten interesting again
I wish I could get more into Android games, but my game library is 95% on Steam, cloud saves are too important to me, to a fault
I won't expect as good of PC Game Compatibility with ARM compared to x86 if Valve ever does Proton/SteamOS for ARM, but even that would be an excellent first step and game-changer in the long-term
frankly I think even Gamehub is a game changer
I would flash an ARM version of SteamOS or Bazzite over Android on the O3 in a heartbeat, and that idea kind of makes me tempted to get the Ultra sku over the Max.
Rn, it would be moreso for 1tb than the 24gb ram, but the constant developments and improvements to PC game emulation might make 24gb ram useful for some more games even if it'll still be niche compared to the Max
I feel like there would be an Odin 4 at that point LOL
yeah, I went for Ultra primarily to get that 1TB of internal storage for texture packs and PC games, the 24GB RAM is just a neat bonus on a device where 16GB should be plenty
Gamehub has impressed me on RP Flip 2, I can't wait to try it on something with some actual horsepower
True, but for one, I don't think it'd even be bad to get the O3 while it's the current gen of Odin, but I also think being able to get Odin 3 for cheaper if the Odin 4 is out by that time is a win in itself
I agree with this. I feel like an Odin 4 jump would be a lot more minor compared from O2 -> O3
Also gotta wait for the Odin 3 Portal, Odin 3 Mini, Odin 3 Flip, Thor 2, Odin 3 Vertical, Odin 3 Ultra
That’s kinda why the RP6 (even pre rework) was uninteresting to me. Cool that it’s available, but not wow-worthy
Current Odin 3 doesn’t really feel like it’s missing anything QoL wise
Eden devs have made incredible progress too and more or less addressed the one concern I had with the O3 in Switch emulation, so I think it will be awesome in just about every regard within a year's time from now
Ik this is sacrilege due to someone here, but even with the benchmarks, the Odin 3 to Odin 4 (if it uses the Elite Gen 5) is probably gonna be one of the more meinal jumps in real world performances. It will be an upgrade, but not a major one like the 8g2 to the Elite
Thor 2 with 8 Elite and 4:3 OLED bottom screen would be a contender for top-tier "endgame" handheld
RP6 is incredible for people without an 8 gen 2 handheld yet tbh
instantly the handheld to get with that SoC
unless someone wants dual screens, of course, then it's Thor or bust
RP6 basically has killed off the Odin 2 Mini 🗿
There's very much zero reason to get the O2Mini now
I'm curious if AYN will make an Odin 3 Mini with 8 Elite though
The Eden devs are doing amazing work for Switch Emulation for the Elite chips and ARMSX2 now being a thing will definitely help bolster it more
Esp. With top stick available now
Odin 4 will probably have 8 elite gen 6, which we don't know anything about yet, but I'd expect a ~50% performance increase or so over 8 elite gen 4
but you're right it probably won't be anything like Odin 2 -> Odin 3
And that probably won't be for another 2-3 years, so we have time for the Odin 3 Portal and Ultra Max
that architecture overhaul from 8 gen 3 to 8 elite was huge
and Thor 2 with 8 elite and maybe some other QoL upgrades would be incredible, if it happens
Oh a Thor 2 will happen
With how well it's selling and doing in the community, there will be a Thor 2
I’m starting to get more comfortable with taking the Switch 1 out of the house now, so I might actually consider the Odin 3 Portal now if it keeps the 7-inch size (hoping it does)
Especially moreso if it also gets somewhat fun color options and keeps the higher storage compared to smaller Odin 3
Clear Blue O3Portal Max with 1tb and Ultra with 2tb pls 👀
I'll hopefully be content with the 6" display on the Odin 3, but Odin 3 Portal should be great for fans of bigger handhelds
Also, with this thing have 120hz, using nicer shaders/BFI and having unlocked frame caps on some games will be amazing
how much was the ultimate again
519
hmm... i should really just cancel mine and put it towards the xbox ally x
ill prolly never use the odin 3 for retro stuff
Base is 330, pro is 400, max is 450, and ultra is 520
I would get this primarily for PS2, GC, Switch, and Indie PC games
so happy I got one of the last superfan ultras
$520 would’ve been a hard sell, but $480 was a steal
though it was still around $520-30 after shipping and a case
Probably because im used to getting the galaxy tabs, but 520 for 24gb of ram and a tb of storage is already a steal for me
$520 for the Ultra specs are very nice.
I just find it a bit hard to justify getting the Ultra over the Max currently with how overkill it is
Winlator development is pretty crazy and faster than I’d expect though.
Ultra specs will be godlike in the long-term
There’s a good chance I might do Ultra anyways as opposed to doing Max + sd card
I can always get the 1tb or 2tb sd card I planned to get at a later point instead
I figure the price difference isn’t bad for 512GB more UFS4 storage and the extra 8GB of RAM will just be bonus and maybe help with a few PC games
but it’s definitely a bit of a luxury upgrade
A 512GB card is ~50€ right now.
So if you're already planning to upgrade the storage from 512GB to 1TB, the Ultra makes a lot of sense.
The 8GB extra RAM is irrelevant, it's just cherry on top.
yup, so it's a bit more than a 512GB microSD card, but for that you get faster, internal storage
I'm not sure that I would be confident that this will be a satisfactory steam deck lite yet
it's getting there, but I would still consider it a work in progress
that's what it seems like yeah
I'd only buy it for this purpose if you are okay with tinkering and with things not always working out of the box
realistically I'm imagining getting something like this some time late next year instead, especially since I'm not really doing a lot of the other stuff an Odin 3 is good for anyway (Switch emulation, high-end Android gaming, etc.)
It has great potential get to the point of “Steam Deck Lite” with time, but in the meantime I’m using it for the other things it’s also good at.
And I don’t mind tinkering either
yep, I'm exactly the same
I want it for all the emulation it will do well, including PC, Switch, and everything below
possibly even PS3 and X360 at some point, which would be crazy
does gamehub have analog stick to mouse controls yet?
I don't think so, I use the touchscreen for that
Yup
The website says "Get a free TPU protective case with your order during pre-order stage." anyone knows if this still applies if an order is placed now?
Shoot them a email and ask to be sure
Yeah I reckon so, it's still the pre-order stage afterall, and the IGG campaign has ended. If they weren't still offering it, I don't think they'd include that line on their site
I wouldn't be too excited tho, it's just the "shell" from this picture
Yeah most would probably be better with the added grip case as the last 2 Odins and very similar RP5 needed them for many
Anyone have a sense for when review Odin 3s will start shipping? Would love to see some reviews while there’s still preorder pricing.
like this, but the analog one above makes the whole device feel a bit different 🙂
Well they still plan on shipping units to IGG backers starting "late Nov", so if all goes to plan, I reckon we'll hear some reviews say they've gotten shipping notifs...maybe end of next week? Gives them a few days to arrive and for people to do testing and get videos out... That's kinda how it was for the Thor I think
That all assumes AYN hit their original "Late Nov" date... They were slightly early with their "Mid October" date for the Thor so yeah, no harm in being optimistic i reckon
i dont mind if they delay. i have too many toys
I do, I Hope there is no delay
that how Odin3 will looks near Odin2 Portal
Definitely would really love the smaller size of the O3.
It's gotten harder for me in terms of what two handhelds I wanna do bc I think I'd really enjoy an O3P now having gotten more comfortable with using and carrying 7-inch screen handhelds thanks to the Switch 1. Feel like O3P + Thor would feel more complimentary
I could still see myself doing O3 Max + 865 Thor as they'd play very different games and O3 will be much more ergonomic for what I'd play on it.
It'll be a good year before I even get an O3, so Ig we'll see if we get an O3P by then
That's not the Odin 2 Portal though
The middle is the Odin 2 Portal. The one on top looks like the Legion go S, and the Thor on the bottom
I am hoping this ships soon
Odin2 portal is in the middle 🙂
If I love my Odin 2, would this be where I upgrade to
Or do I just
Get a Thor and call it quits
The Thor is cool but has ergonomic comprises due to its 3DS-inspired design. Unless your main goal is 3DS and DS emulation, then I'd say get the Odin 3 - it will be more ergonomic AND more powerful
Thor is more unique with a cool as fuck form factor, Odin 3 will prob be best future proofing with a lot of progress already into the chipset
Keep using your Odin 2 and wait for Odin 4.
Odin Thor
I personally wouldn't upgrade if I already had an Odin 2, but if you have a specific need for the 8 Elite, then you could, especially if you plan on selling the Odin 2.
It's up to you. I think the Thor is really nice, but for me personally, I see clamshells as a companion edc device and not a form factor I want to make my main device. Ofc, everyone is different
I'd upgrade from Odin 2 to Odin 3 for the OLED alone
Ah, it's the og Odin 2?
Honestly, yeah, the OLED and more inset controls alone could be good reasons to upgrade.
Especially if you want a smaller device
Plus, the Odin 3 has full sized sticks
If i had the odin 2 and didnt care for 8 elite id side grade to RP6
I just need ayn to make an odin 3 mini
Or ayaneo to make some weird pocketable 8 elite handheld
would be a massive downgrade in ergos
Odin 2 to KONKR G3 Gen3 is the reasonable upgrade path
why tho? Odin 3 is already quite small
Yeah but realistically I can't fit that in my pocket, well at least not without looking silly
Grip for ergos 🤷🏽♂️ easy fix
No grip and much improved portability
Tbh, the more I think on it, the more I kinda don't want a Odin 3 Mini. Sure a pocketable 8 elite chip would be awesome, but if the O2 Mini has taught me anything, if you don't have good cooling in that small of a shell and your pushing for higher performance, it'll still get very warm quick
Yeah I had an Odin 2 Mini for a bit and didn't like how warm it got
And yet its handheld of the month 🤦🏽♂️
It would still be better than 8 elite phones cooling wise, but I also have a hard time justifying a reason for it to exist when the Odin 3 is already fairly small.
It would either be the same form factor with a 5.5 inch screen (which is barely smaller) or it'd have to be 5 inches and be even smaller
You all give wild opinions lol
Always hard to recommend to people because everyone is different. Watch some videos and make an informed decision.
I'm excited for my O3 🙂
And that's fine
that's what I'm doing, I like my Odin 2, wish it had OLED and no ghosting, this has that
Ideally, image retention will be just about fixed by the time the O3 comes out too.
hasn't been an issue for me on the Thor tbh
I don't think it'd be an issue for me either, but improvements of any kind are always appreciated
Tbh with the RP6 redesign I'll kind of think I may end up using the RP6 more than the O3. Smaller, lighter, more what I wanted from an RP5 streaming device successor (G2/RP5 form factor with 120Hz and stick up top would have been perfect but the RP6 doesn't look too far off).
It would be smart to cancel my SF Odin 3 pledge, but I also have a hard time justifying them asking to cancel. Would feel like a dick move.
Barely smaller not enough to make any difference lol but go ahead and cancel just means people will get theres a little sooner, theyre not worried about you canceling, just get the device you want theyre not going to care
If anything when I get the funds I can probably reimburse you for what you spent, and I can get your O3 (if you're in the US)
I care^^
Size wise it sits in the middle between O3 and RP5 but the bigger thing may be the weight difference. RP6 is supposed to be 320g, O3 almost 390g. The 280g of the RP5 is something I can feel over the 420g O2Portal and even on a phone I can feel 160g vs 200g. So that's something that makes ne hopeful for the RP6
is there even an official weight for the RP6? like the 320g just seems like folks assumed it from the Odin 2 Mini weight
It's on one of their rp6 spec slides
Is that the redesign weight or the original design weight?
The RP6 is smaller than the o2 mini
Original design. There’s no confirmed weight for the redesign, but it should be around the same, maybe ~ 10 grams lighter.
W a bigger better screen
Im getting O3 and RP6 stick top
Hope you enjoy.
Idk if the size difference between the two is enough for me to justify having both.
I think my ideal duo of handhelds will be the O3 and a 5 to 5.5 inch dual-screen clamshell (whoever ends up making something like that at all)
I'll probably get the O3 in the near future when taxes are good
Or if the holidays are nice
Duo is rookie numbers im too deep in this handheld shit
Unfortunately (or fortunately) for me, I don’t have that much spending money 🗿
The only two I’ve bought so far were the R36S last year in November, and the 35xxSP Summer this year when the speaker on the R36S died x3
I think
I'm just gonna pick up an Odin 3
I was going to buy both a Thor and Odin 3 to try out
But then realized that's an incredibly dumb decision, especially since I love my Odin 2 and specifically want a better version of that
Odin 3 Pro is the move
Yep
Unless of course you're interested in the move that is even better than that. Then it's the ultra
It's between Pro and Max for me
I refuse to buy the Ultra because I am furious that the Max isn't the top end device.
I don’t really mind the Ultra existing, but I strongly feel it should’ve been 8/256, 12/512, 16/1tb and 24/2tb instead of what we got
I’m mainly really considering the Max bc of the storage x3
that storage is very tempting isn't it
For what it’s worth, I looked up why Ultra is generally considered even more than Max as a word.
Ultra apparently means being beyond established limits, so it is in fact even better.
But that’s splitting hairs over what is still a silly naming scheme 🗿
Max was the top-end and then enough people in AYN Discord asked for a higher end model that AYN added it on before the IGG campaign started. 24GB RAM brings it in-line with top end 8 Elite phones and such
Alot of game settings sliders are like this too max and then ultra for the top presets
there’s definitely something neat about having the maximum RAM that the chipset supports
but the main reason to go ultra is the storage for texture packs and PC games
I got Ultra just because of the storage. I will not buy SD card, for me for Gamehub/PC games are mostly needed internal space.
I noticed that some games run more smoothly on internal memory - especially open-world ones
I'm putting a 2TB microSD card in my Ultra and none of you can stop me
Same
I’m using a 512GB card initially but am also planning on upgrading to a 1-2TB card in the future
need space for all those PS3 games y’know?
Oh yeah, PS3.
That alone is plenty of reason for me to get the Max SKU.
PS3 emulators recommend 16gb on both Windows and MacOS. Not sure how different it’d really be for Android
I've got the max model and a 256gb sd card. All PS2 and bellow will go into the 256gb card, and switch, ps3 and PC will go internal. I want to limit what I install to only games that I will for sure play.
Choice paralysis with gaming is real
Android doesn’t have dedicated VRAM, it’s shared RAM for system and GPU
I keep forgetting that PS3 emulation may actually run better with 24GB RAM because emulating PS3 on a handheld is so crazy my brain dismisses it as not real
I really just want more ram to play some PC games
I can probably swing the extra money
Someone influence me to get the Max
I'm not even touching the Ultra
The Max does have the extra storage AND the extra 4 GB of RAM could be nice for PC games, since I do want to look more into that
that’s valid
I filled up 128GB on my Flip 2 so quickly that even 4x as much storage felt a bit low to me, but we all have our own different use cases and budgets
Yeah, I know that.
I keep seeing people say 12gb would be fine, but I’m not sure about that.
16gb might be enough even with the shared vram, but that lowkey is an actual reason to get the Ultra instead
Ultras gonna be clutch for ps3 and winlatorb, and with no dedicated vram youll get the most out of demanding games with 24g even if it doesnt use it all youll never get a true 16g with backend and containers on a odin max
Would you spend the extra money in my case or just stick with the Pro
Also I just realized I'll have had an Odin 1, 2, and 3
But yeah I'll be getting an Odin 3 plus that little accessory bundle
I think that’s not really something I can say for your case tbh
I think that 256GB may be limiting if you intend to PC game, at the very least
and 12GB RAM’s gonna be low for PS3 and higher-end PC emulation
ugh I wish you could run linux on these devices
I know that you there'd need to be a compat layer to make steam work but imagine the scenes
also has anyone mentioned when the device is going out to reviewers?
The 8 Elite should be mainlined soon enough
At least
I think so?
I'm not too well versed on that front so don't quote me on that
it'll still be arm, and afaik proton doesnt support arm
this is essentially what Gamehub/Winlator does
until someone makes a better compat layer, Linux won't magically be better
Yeah
Yeah, I’d only really recommend Ultra for the 1TB storage.
mannn I was a bit afraid of my purple choice, NO MORE. This thing looks beautiful.
really hope they will keep this blue with portal version later
Blue looks great
Looks the same blue as Odin 2 from the back. Front is darker due to the opaque glass but I like it.
It’s gorgeous…
OH THAT BLUE IS SEXY
If they use that same blue on the Odin 3 Portal....
Depending on what dual-screen clamshell I have by then, I may lowkey get a clear blue O3P.
This blue is such peak....
oh fuck
Someone is 100% switching those sticks and buttons out for white ones.
Curious to see what that looks like
Man so cool. I liked the blue Odin 2, but I didn't like the change in plastic between the black and blue models. The glass here kind of offsets that
real damn close, yeah
I love that both the plastic and glass are a bit darker in the fully-assembled pics (I assume, in the case of the plastic, due to all the internal bits reducing the amount of light coming through)
Yeah, plastic looks about the same, but glass is definitely a tad darker
I find them quite ugly, tbh.
They may actually look better IRL.
🤷♂️
Huge fan of the blue one myself here
cancel your odin 3 preorders, Steam Frame is here
What if I don’t do that, and instead get the Odin 3 and use Proton ARM 👀
That's even more reason to get the odin 3 lol
Steam Frame is definitely cool af, but the main thing that made me really pumped is that it uses 8Gen3, and heavily implied that Proton on ARM is a thing now
Might not need to use Winlator/Gamehub at all anymore
I’m 110% getting the Ultra now and likely installing SteamOS
DONT cancel your odin 3 preorders, Proton is here
Proton on ARM done been a thing, but I just learned secondhand that some youtubers interviewed Valve devs about it, and Steam Frame will be running SteamOS ARM64 with Proton + FEX to play x86 games
OR cancel your odin 3 preoders, and by the time Proton is here, get Odin 4 with Elite gen 5
Odin 3 Bazzite would be absolutely insane
I think the Odin 3 will be cheaper and be an insane deal once the Odin 4 is a thing
like I have zero interest in Steam Frame for myself but I'm excited for what it could do for snapdragon 8 handhelds
Ngl though, I was NOT expecting Proton ARM this soon, holy shit
see, people say this, but Odin 2 Portal has a measly $30 discount rn lmao
i am excited for it for both the android handheld comunity, and the VR community
What is it going for secondhand if you know?
the thing I'm most excited about is Valve potentially submitting patches to the Linux kernel for proper sleep/wake on snapdragon 8 chips
solving my biggest issue with Rocknix and Batocera on Android/Snapdragon handhelds
I think if anything, it’d be nice if AYN sells refurbished Odin 3 Maxes and Ultras some point down the road
Kind of like how they’re selling refurbished og Odin 2 Maxes for $299
I dunno, I'd have to search the marketplace here
that would be nice! but frankly I think $300-500 for 8 elite + 6" 120hz OLED + fullsize sticks is a solid price already
what i missed about steam frame? 😄
Ok, so I guess Valve themselves actively decided to make me go back on this.
Definitely now recommend getting the Ultra if you’re hoping to mess with anything that ends up happening due to that Arm-SteamOS.
I'm either reselling my flip 2 or giving it to a friend
rp5 and flip2 must be the fastest depreciating devices lmao
tbf they were already using a wildly outdated chip upon release
much like the RP6 is now, except at least 8 gen 2 can run Switch and a decent number of PC games
I still appreciate the RP5. It will become my full-time retro widescreen device, relieved of any other duties like streaming.
why would you use the rp5 when you can do the same thing on the odin 3?
Because my kids or wife won't be allowed to lay hands on the O3
ok thats a different use case lol
I'm not really deep into the retro gaming stuff, but I have a Mini V2 and a few others like 28xx and 35xx. The RP5 will become the go-to for any dpad centric gen5 and gen6 retro thing that supports widescreen hacks. And some light Nintendo stuff
Odin 3 will be my new thing for local gamestreaming and more modern stuff
RP6.. still undecided what to do with that one. It's probably either the RP6 or O3 that will have to go though as I just mostly want a stick-top portable streaming device companion to the O2Portal that's my dedicated stay-at-home device
Flip2 on the other hand.. yeah, that one's dead to me lol. I'd rather get a Thor instead.
my dmg is my dedicated retro 4:3 type retro device. used to also do higher emulation, but its screen says otherwise lol. so now the odin 3 will be the 16:9/higiher emulation and streaming device
thor is just filling in the gap right now...
I'm still kinda torn about the Thor.. it's intriguing to me because of the alleged possibility pinned 2nd screen android keyboard in one of the upcoming OTAs
Which would be a really welcome feature for gamestreaming from a Windows host
But I'm not the biggest fan of clamshells and I have an OG 3DS and DS at home and to me the 3D part is kinda the novelty on the 3DS. And the Thor is kinda too bulky for me to replace the RP5/6/O3 as my "portable" companion device. Would still end up in the backpack..
Been trying to find a reason to get the Thor for a few months now, but ultimately the O3/RP6 is more what I want..
big same honestly
I know Thor's OLED displays are supposed to be much nicer, but I have an IPS top screen on my N3DSXL, so I just don't see the point in sacrificing ergonomics on a do-everything device just for compatibility with games from a system I already own and enjoy
I've seen people suggest Thor exclusively for (3)DS, but like, I am not spending $300+ on a handheld to emulate two systems that I already own original hardware for
this has once again reminded me that I've actually never tried 3D mode on my N3DS since getting lasered in the eyes (and thus no longer wearing glasses, which ruin the 3D effect)
https://www.reddit.com/r/SBCGaming/comments/1ovpvcd/from_pcgamer_valve_interview_steamos_arm_will_be
More or less confirmation that we'll basically be able to install SteamOS on the Odin 3
Would depend on how soon we get a port, but I'm really stoked
I likewise have an IPS n3DSXL, and I still want the Thor, if not for the fact that it only has a SD8Gen2. I already have the O2M so it wouldn’t be much of an ”upgrade.” I keep jumping back and forth between the Thor and O3, but I’m now leaning towards the latter due to the Elite processor that should last for a few years.
I have an Odin 3 preordered and figure I get a Thor 2 or 3, with the kinks ironed out and a better chip
Production Schedule
For IGG orders and website orders placed up to November 15, here’s the latest production timeline:
- PCB mainboards will arrive on November 29.
- Mass SMT assembly will begin at the end of November.
- Full unit assembly and deliveries will start in early December.
Ayn ain't making the due date, outrageous, time to cancel everyone
Yeah, it is time to cancel again 😄
Mine looks same as that but all active orders 🤣
So some review units have been sent out today! I need our youtubers to confirm shipping notifications, i need it!!
You could govern Germany.
The current canceler is not very popular.
Hello there...
Finally went for an Odin3 Ultra (after canceling RP6 and Odin 3 max once)
Holy cow
lol 😄
I`m at current moment went for Odin3 Ultra, but still thinking about to try Konkr Fit with G3Gen3
I really want to get an Odin 3, especially since steam on arm was teased, but I know that once I do, they'll announce the 3 portal
I like smaller devices, so I'm more than likely getting the O3 even if the Portal was a thing.
Not to say the decision would be easy for me though. Gotten used to playing similarly-sized handhelds lately with the Switch 1
Hopefully not before they announce the odin 3 mini
the odin 3 mini is going to be so peak
I should probably sell a couple of my vehicle projects, just to convince my neighbors I'm not white trash
Between my Switch 2 and Ally, I'm so used to large screens now. I'm not concerned about putting anything in my pockets so the bigger the better. Almost got the Ayaneo DS instead of the Thor, but I was hesitant about Ayaneo and their quality/reputation
dang, less optimistic than I expected
yeah… the only hope, i want to get until December 20, when my 2 weeks of vacations are starting. But now is more like 50/50 🙂
Always baffled how people confuse "expected shipping date" on an IGG campaign with a "promised"/guaranteed date..
People have a hard time understanding what “estimate” means
sometimes they have delivered earlier than the estimated date so there's always some hope they'll surprise
but alas not this time
oh nooooo a crowdfunding campaign isn't hitting schedule? everyone cancel ||so I can get mine sooner||
I still think I’ll receive the Odin 3 before the Pimax dream air
We'll get the Odin 3 before GTA6 so thats all that really matters
You mean Odin 4
True, GTA has at least 3 more delays in it
I’m not even likely buying the Odin 3 until like Christmas time in 2026
Before someone mentions the possibility, yes, I might get a 3 Portal instead if it’s a thing by then, but depending on what clamshells come out by then, I’m more likely to get the regular Odin 3
Small device go brr
it is the same video as post before this 😄
yh, but u can watch it without account in 1080p
if u talk about Elite yes
I mean the G3 gen 3 model
hmm idk
oh they weren't kidding when they said they have started shipping review units
too bad it's the less interesting color 😄
batch 3 mid-january 😵
that's not bad at all considering the majority of orders are shipping in December
They already started shipping some fits. Not many, like 30 but still lol
I will be curious if I get my Odin 3 first or my Konkr lol
I'm glad I have an early order I guess. Hopefully a first batch since I was the night they opened. Mid 400s in the Indiegogo pledges. 🤞
Asking the real question

In the Odin 3 review video, the quality of Odin 3 looks much higher than the Fit. Now I kind of regret not going with the Ultra or Max when the Super Fan pricing was available.
Pro will still be pretty good here
we've seen several 8 elite tablets with 12gb RAM that did pretty well all around
You can’t go wrong with either the pocket fit or Odin 3 imo

at first you spam Konkr Fit chat, now you spam with the same messages 2 chats. Please create separate topic and put there your content. Now people see, that new message are in chats, but there are again your useless content.
It's pointless. He doesn't care about people asking either politely or vehemently.
The mods don't do anything beside bot-cleaning.
Ignore him if you want to remain here yet avoid his utterly annoying content.
for me these are valuable materials showing what the elite can do at this stage
Just put them on ignore
It’s not that bad man and actually don’t mind , I think it’s pretty cool seeing these run on Arm. A bit extreme but if you don’t want to see or interested just block , you wont see any of it anymore
new discord ignore is too kind, i still go full block even with it added
I would be really nice if we could just add a subthread for performance videos, because they are clogging up the chat pretty bad. But yeah it's not a huge deal imo
I'd rather see this type of content than drama like from Latency and screen response time guy

It is what it is
a separate channel for "chips" or "benchmarks" could make sense
Obligatory cyberpunk 2077 test
The fact that the 8 gen 2 can get borderline playable performance on that gives me hope for the 8 elite
i just wanna know if odin3 can play lumines arise in 1080p60
on Gen3 is almost always 30 fps, on G3 noone tested yet, but should be even better
cpu bound will be always until Elite via emulation (same as steam deck actually)
Elite + turnip will be 45 fps+- (on good res and graphics) wonder how good on steam os will be ...

Ah ok
Odin 3 arrives thursday apparently! Excited to start my review
Community Q&A post is up if you have any questions you want me to cover on the Odin 3:
https://www.youtube.com/post/UgkxybEf2sS4Y2qd_0afEQd375Rw-ZgFKLW-
please test gamehub games 😉 if possible compare to Thor 🙂 i hope Odin3 will be capable to run Deep Rock Galactic Survivor at least 30 fps stable, because with Thor isnt good that one.
Add a comment on the post so i have all the questions in one spot. Did you try my GameHub Lite Optimization guide?
Yeah, i did, mostly of smaller games are good, just with Deep Rock Galactic Survivor and Sonic Racing Crossworld from small and middle size games i have problems 🙂
my decision on keeping the odin 3 likely rests on your review....
as a device more likely to be running gamehub more than anything else, im seeing more value in putting the money towards the xbox ally x
I will always recommend an x86 over an ARM device, due to sheer flexibility and power. You have no x86 handhelds? I'm personally interested to see how much of a steam deck mini the O3 could be.
im currently enjoying my rog ally, so im conflicted with the odin 3 lol
Why not upgrade the battery on your og ally then get the pro or max O3? But yeah, no rush to hop in. My review will go up soon when I get it... Or my first impressions anyways.
ive put the 80wh battery, a 4tb ssd, and a cooling rear shell
but odin 3 is new shiny
but if the odin 3 can play lumines arise at 1080p60, that may be enough
the thor was struggling to play it at 720p low
or i just didnt use the right settings
steam os arm
it have all chances to transform arm to x86
if they do everything right, or if not ... anyway OS will be open sources so it will be possible to improve it / finish it

Thank you to th...
runs pretty well on the Odin 2 Portal, did you try to adjust the translation param setting under compatibility
well still have to deal with x86 -> arm64 translation overhead, but honestly I’d switch just to get away from Android, even if performance is identical
u can translate x86=>arm64 without overhead or with micro 1-3%
what
agree, even with the identical (unreal) i would switch android to steam os ...
Rosetta 2 is really good but it’s not zero overhead
last I saw, Rosetta 2 was 30% slower than ARM native
Comparing performances I decided to compare the performances of the OpenSource Linux Userspace Emulator that allows you to run x86/x86_64 apps on ARM linux. There are QEMU-user, FEX-emu and Box86/Box64. How to bench Linux userspace emulator Test will consist of the bench I already used a couple of time, and that can be run as...
i didnt tinker. just quick run right before bed
oh actually i brought it in to the office. ill give it a go later, if i remember
relevant graph from that linked article
so with better rosetta performance, you can learn languages faster?
Rosetta 2 is Apple’s x86 -> arm64 translation layer
its an old man joke....
Rosetta consistently outperforms both box64 and FEX, and even then it loses ~30% performance compared to native
for example 2077, 110 fps vs 130 fps
rosetta2 vs native
I don’t see us ever seeing <10% loss on translation from x86_64 to arm64, and that’s probably even worse for x86_32 -> arm64 (which is why Apple just straight-up doesn’t support 32-bit)
but that’s still solid enough for Odin 3 to perform roughly equivalent to Steam Deck
it much better
Elite equivalent to z1 extreme
but heavy limited with android/layers etc
are there direct z1e vs elite benchmarks
yup
....can we see it
not on the GPU side, unfortunately
remember how much Elite reach?
on gpu
what did elite get
Not even close. The GFLOPS raw compute on the Z1E is roughly twice that of the SD 8 Elite Gen 4.
8.6tflops Vs 4ish on the elite
but the russian jpeg shows bigger number
Per FPS/watt efficiency should be interesting to compare
teraflops is not everything dude)
like dimencity 9500 reach 4.5 teraflops, it more than xbox series S, is it really better? ofc not
that my team member
Na of course not. Just saying it's not always apples to apples. Real world use performance is complicated to compare across ecosystems.
oh btw @short gust, I see you have the Developer and Engineer roles, what projects are you part of?
I won't share this
TFLOPS (FP32) = (Number of shader cores / ALUs) × (Clock speed in GHz) × 2
uh, ok
so why is it also a benchmark?
Where are you getting this from? A valve guy said that there was about a 20% hit
for example Xbox S - 4.5-4.6, it has good gpu and weak asf cpu = tottal number low
this sounds reasonable for box64 and FEX progression since that benchmark post was made a few years back
outdate
upd: in easy tasks
heavier => more overhead
I dunno, I’m sure the valve engineer knows a thing or two
Valve guy said that last week so I really doubt it’s outdated
He said that so as not to raise expectations.
that right move
Imma go with a Valve engineer’s take over a fellow random yapper on the internet with question mark blocks for a name lmao
but hes friends with zangief
even if that real metric, 20% is still impressive
Yes
for heaviest scenarios, less demanding things = less overhead
maybe that a real test share result (steam os arm)
+-
cant wait for the first closed beta build ... (i will post allot of tests)
but sadly we have just 2 Gen3 devices ... (others Elite and Gen5)
oh yeah, 20% overhead still puts the 8 elite ahead of AMD Aerith in terms of CPU
I’m ready to swap my steam deck out for a odin3/fit
and afaik GPU doesn’t face those same translation hurdles, so as long as the Adreno 830 supports the right Vulkan version for a game, we’re golden there
I don’t even have a Steam Deck
Odin 3 might mean I never bother
.. would miss the track pads but smaller form factor pleeeaaase
I wonder if we’ll get a Steam Deck ARM some day, maybe with an X elite or something
200%
Deck Arm will be, they do it for those devices (vr, machine, portable)
I think it’s really what Steam Frame is moving towards
and why this new batch of devices doesn’t include a Deck refresh
get developers to support targeting an ARM device with the Frame, wait a bit, then drop an ARM Deck with a library of games that already support it because of Frame
oh its a nice size
The screen looks amazing
He confirmed that?
yeah, exactly like the thor
so if it didnt bother you on the thor, it wont bother you here
It disappears pretty fast. Honestly never bothered me much.
i only remember it being on a very specific color
What time stamp was the image retention demoed?
People are getting Odin 3 now
What's size looking like? My internet is kinda ass today, so I can't see stream
like a slightly bigger rp5?
Joey described this as a compact Portal in his server, and that to me is great for what I want
bigger
i think he laid one on top of the odin 3
im only partially watching. im working right now, which serves to buy new shinys
Good
I mean, outside of Switch (which even on the 8g2 devices I wouldn't test my luck), this looks like a solid buy
Odin 2 Mini height, wider, and a bit thinner
any 16:9 would be a good compliment to the mini/classic lol
True LMAO
But I want something more powerful for PS2, Gamecube, and PC game
(Maybe switch in the far flung future)
seems like the konkr fit g3 is ideal if youre worried about compatibility
If it ever ships
and if you don't mind LCD
Not really. Compatability is something I can wait on, especially since by the time it's good, I'll still be cutting through my library of games I need to finish
yeah that's how I feel
I fully expect to be sucked back into Hades II for awhile after I get my O3, then when I peek my head back out a couple months later, I'll discover solid mesa drivers
looks like thor runs COTW at 720p low 30fps. so odin 3 can at least do 6-fps 720p low?
COTW?
Creath of the Wild?
Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves
using every fastest setting on gamehub
i gotta try this on my dmg
Retro Game Corps just posted a new video! Go check it out!

This was a review...
The Blue looks hella clean, as I hoped
…Ok, well that’s certainly way more glitches and bugs for switch emu than what people had led me to believe. The hell’s going on here @short gust, I thought you and others were saying 8 Elite was up to the same level of game compatibility as other devices?
Well, at least PC games are looking great.
Yeah @short gust , what the hell ? 😂
I’m not gonna lie, I was already expecting this regardless, I’m just yanking on their chain a bit after all the 8 elite “oh, everything for Switch is fixed now, it’s so perfect and compatibility is just as good as other devices now” shilling.
Yeah, that’s also more issues than I’ve been lead to believe
I don’t think Russ talked about it here, but there’s also strange issues with N64 in RetroArch.
That part isn’t as relevant to me bc I play the standalone emulator anyways which does work on 8 Elite, but still really weird
I never really believed it much from the start for specifically switch since it seemed too good to be true, I just never could really correct them myself since I don’t have an 8 Elite device to actually test.
But, at least we have Russ to actually temper people’s expectations.
It doesn’t change the fact that the amount of progress Eden has made on 8 Elite is incredible for such a short amount of time, but yeah, this isn’t ready for Switch emulation yet
This is definitely still making me legit excited for using the Pocket Fit Elite with GameHub Lite and GameNative (after upgrading from Pocket Fit G3Gen3), and anyone getting the Odin 3 for that purpose definitely has all the reason to feel the same.
Would check back on the state of Switch emulation in like half a year to a year, but by then, there may be other 8 Elite devices that could be more enticing.
If not by other companies, then by AYN themselves
I will say, I’m very much happy to see Russ talk about docking this on a 4k tv with how powerful the chip here is
That’s something Joey didn’t really talk about or test at all in his stream
Joey had zero objectivity on this one, he was extremely skeptical and negative from the start.
It's a choice, but it's not terribly useful for prospective buyers.
Joey I think went from it from the angle of the device “as it is now”, which is a fine approach, but it’s not as objective as it could be
So much like all his reviews, except for the few that he likes immediately upon announcement?
Most people buying an 8 Elite device are already going into them with the expectation of having to tinker
One thing I do really agree with Joey on though: the fan is obnoxiously loud
Pretty much. 😂
It’s at that hz where some people won’t hear it as loudly, but others will
Which is why I think it doesn’t sound bad to Russ, but does to Joey and I
Apparently, a lot of the Switch graphic glitches happening here are also common on other chips and shader related
So Konkr fit best but can’t buy or o3 bit worse but will probably be able to get one
It’s honestly funny how people act like his negativity “makes his take’s more unbiased” as if he doesn’t already show a shit ton of bias both “against devices he didn’t like from the start” and “in favor of devices he’s always been wanting before then”.
I feel it’s dumb to only watch a review from one person anyways.
Watching multiple reviews will usually give a better overall idea
Like, just cause he’s more cynical about the devices he doesn’t like doesn’t mean he’s being “unbiased”.
Joey reviews devices for himself personally. Russ reviews devices for his audience.
Thats the fix for gamecube. Switch emulation on Elite is terrible
It doesn't seem like Joey reviews devices as much as he gives his gut feelings about them. "I like it" can be very different from "it's good" and I believe that "professional" reviewers (ie. "influencers" and more generally people who make money reviewing things) should at least try to do their job without too many preconceptions and strive towards more objectivity.
I like Joey's take on things, but they're often incredibly specific to him.
i always enjoy it when some reviewers seem to live rent free in some people's heads 😄 but yeah
Ah, gotcha.
I got confused from the chat hopping between the two things from what I saw (which is inevitable)
Still skimming through it
It's a relatively niche hobby, the reviewers are bound to be well-known. Having an opinion about them is not necessarily an obsession. 🤷♂️
i wasn't referring to you, you're good 😄
Oh, my bad.
Did you end up trying the exclusive ubershaders? How was the performance like? 100% speed at 2x?
nah, i never say the same lvl
its impossible without turnip
but it much better than before
also again that was rofl settings :/
Elite not out the box thing (bc no turnip)
also seems like Odin3 has different Elite chipset...
disgusting result
compare to real Elite (red magic 10) our Elite devices reach even more, but they not stock
Is it not more likely they just don’t have the full performance a rooted phone would be capable of, considering it’s an unrooted handheld?
nubia non-root
out of the box
Do we know that those results were from an unrooted Nubia?
This suggests two possible reasons:
- It is a special Elite model that has been slightly modified physically.
- They are not confident in their cooling system and have therefore limited its power.
yup
my guy do
also anyway, nubia 10 impossible to root (kernel issue patched insta)
that really weird moment
really hope they will do blue version of O3Portal too at some point
Fair enough then. Guess Ayn’s limiting the metrics for the Performance Modes, in which case AYANEO will potentially be better since they give full access to modifying the performance modes. (On top of having a Max mode that very specifically gives you proper warnings about the potential dangers in pushing the device to the max, so it’s not like they have a reason to limit it because “the user likely won’t realize how risky it could be”).
Nah, I wouldn’t say so since it’s still obscenely good, but it does look like they’re reducing the max performance to lower temperatures, considering Russ was getting really high temperatures on its own.
Russ getting high temperature? Isnt it the opposite? Other than the gamehub display, both Ayn own display and aida64 shows the temperature at 60+ and below even when stressed in gamehub
just fyi, @unborn estuary has been in contact with AYN about this issue, since it's most likely fixable in software by tweaking the power profiles (or giving users more control over TDP in general, but that's a bigger ask)
I’m mostly talking about during the benchmarks since that’s where people noticed it in the #🐈│retro-game-corps channel.
is Wild Life Extreme the same as Wild Life Extreme Stress Test, but just one run?
if thats the case, my dmg gets 4600 as well
Ah cool, so Kei already noticed it then.
The Odin 3 (or rather the 8 elite chipset) is gonna be in a weird place for a while without the driver support people want. Outside if that, it's obscenely good, especially if you wanna push Gamecube, PS2, and PC games further at lower TDP
Gamecube games without weird graphical glitches, anyways
otherwise you're stuck using the Ubershaders that consume a ton of processing power just to make games look normal

but software fixes will come with time, I'm sure
are we keeping our odin 3 preorders
Burn them
it will play GBA games just fine I'm sure
And keep your hands warm
Is those glitches you mentioned in both opengl and vulkan, or only vulkan?
And if the device is capable, ubershaders are recommended anyway.
Yeah, even if you don't end up liking it, people will be falling over themselves to buy early units on eBay rather than wait for Batch 3 shipments
No point cancelling an early preorder unless you hate selling stuff, which is valid
just gotta add 30% on top
yes i hate selling stuff
is why i still have my rp5 and flip2
Some people on eBay can be a pain to deal with
...anmd others
I learnt early on that it's way easier to just wipe the device, never sell one that's set up, people have so many damn requests and questions
And people who buy devices already setup tend to not know how they work. I had someone try to say my Odin 2 was faulty cause some Switch games were crashing
only dealbreaker for me would be if that fan whine were on all units, which it looks like it’s not, since Joey has it but Russ doesn’t
I believe Joey ran into the issues with both
especially for SEB and SF preorders, we could likely make most of what we paid back selling used-mint at MSRP
welp, turns out device speculated to have compatibility issues has compatibility issues, who could have thought
The flabbergastation is total.
At the least, a good portion of people that were getting an 8 Elite device anyways in spite of that knew that going into it.
^ Literally
Konkr LCD lovers in shambles when faced with Odin 3 OLED
I’m definitely keeping my Pocket Fit Elite, this wasn’t enough to scare me back to a G3 Gen 3.
Tbh I might cancel my G3 Gen 3 Konkr if I don't get confirmation it'll arrive in the next two weeks tho
whyd you choose fit elite over odin 3?
or you getting both...
I really wish Ayaneo would communicate more about shipments.
259 for the G3 Konker was sweeeet though
Because I had a Pocket Fit G3 Gen 3 max specs version beforehand, and it’s a lot cheaper to just upgrade for $100 to the Elite version than it would be to throw away my Super Early Bird price for a non-super early bird Odin 3, even with me getting a refund.
you dont mind that lcd over the oled?
Yes, because it’s 500nits vs 650nits, and I don’t give a shit about OLED vs LCD as long as the screen is good (which Russ and several others already have demonstrated with the G3 Gen 3 version).
you play outside a lot?
Me personally if I was to cancel my order for a 12+256 G3 Konker I'd probably spec up to a 16+512 O3, otherwise I wouldn't feel it's worthwhile to do
But that's an additional like
$190
Nope, usually I play indoors or under a shade at least.
Freaking hate having the sun reflected into my eyes from the screen, especially nowadays with all these full glass front panels.
Everyone always talks about “a bright enough screen to counter the glare” but no one talks about the eye pain you’re dealing with just from that reflected sunlight alone (much less playing at full brightness).
I may be weird but I try to get matt screen protectors as much as I can
I just hate shiny
Yeah I hate it. It’s why I’m looking to get one of those mat vinyl sticker covers for the Thor. I may not like it now, but once I get the replacement speakers, I’d rather give it a fighting chance against the Pocket DS.
Ngl are the gains from a G3 to an Elite worth it in anything other than GameHub though
yea I want one for my pocket s2 but having full glass front doesn't make it easy to find
I hate making things unfair solely because of a hardware defect, so I’d rather have the best possible Thor by the time I start playing on it again.
Specifically to counteract the fact I’d be fully used to the Pocket DS by the time I finally get those speakers, where the Thor may end up feeling weird for not being as heavy or big.
Or native Android gaming ig
I don't use pc emulators on my devices thankfully so g3 is all I need
They have a shit ton for the Thor right now, most of them being from SakuraRetroModding (yeah, I get people are hating on them for “being too expensive”, but there’s a reason people usually get stuff from them and it’s because I’ve literally never gotten any poor quality stuff from them).
yea sakura got some good stuff
Hopefully other handhelds will start getting the same once they’re readily available, maybe even the Pocket Fit will get at least a basic black matte option?
LCD looks washed out in comparison
like you're viewing the colors through a tinted window
…I thought the brightness on the Odin 3 was peaking the camera, hence why its blue front panel looks weirdly darker than normal in that specific shot?
Honestly, after Nancheng I’m more than fine with waiting, as long as there aren’t delays during the shipment itself.
I don't think it really does tbh, it just looks dimmer, it's a bit of a disingenuous comparison with no medium or average to compare to as well
I think that's more on the color temperature/balance rather than color saturation or contrast.
That screen/background is also not what you would use to compare OLED against LCD if you want to show it's advantage.
It's like comparing the best IPS Vs the best Oled
And then saying the IPS is worthless now because the Oled was better, despite the average IPS being far worse, or the best IPS being as good or better than some mid range Oled
Yeah), with such a cooling u can can use full Elite without limits, you don't have to limit yourself at all.
it use different sensor, not right
i ordered both Konkr Elite and Odin 3. Just cancelled the Odin 3. Was waiting for a discussion on ergonomics and it seems like Konkr excels at that (I don't really care about LCD vs OLED)
Other than brightness, I have not seen any IPS or VA panels being better than OLED, at least if you are comparing models that are not too far apart in age.
At least for TVs that is.
There are some badly calibrated ones out of the box though.
Gamehub by default use SOC sensor (regular temp for max load with active cooling (any) is around 100c, peak 105)
AYN seems like change it to not scary users 🙂
3600W liquid freezer
Eh, I’ve definitely seen a good number of bad OLED’s that had better IPS counterparts for the same price point. But that usually involved stuff like Gray-banding or being unlucky and getting one from a lower quality batch.
I seen ppl complaining about the vita OLED (used on rg503/rg505), but my rg503 's screen still looks better to me than alot of the screens being used in the cheaper handhelds like the h700 lineup and rg DS.
eh
closest LCD to OLED is RGB Miniled HVA, but it still different thing
Oh?
Ok yeah, looks like we should we will indeed be getting turnip drivers in the near future.
I'm not sure if it could be delayed at all beyond next year, but sounds promising nonetheless
3600w for 90fps?
Oh shit, well there we go, we might be getting our problems solved after all.
WOOO
Sorry guys about the noise again on the black scenes. Figured out the culprit and it'll be better next time. Hope this gets some people feeling a bit more secure about their purchases:

(This pertains to the Odin 3 and the Thor)
Seeing "burn-in" or ghosting on your new AYN Thor or Odin 3? Before you tape up the return box, watch this. It turns out this frightening screen issue might not be a hardware defect at all—and I can prove it with a simple 5-second test.
Curious about the AYN Thor? Check out my full review here: https://youtu.be/28UmbFaWYmg
Grab one below and...
FUCK
We already know it’s not permanent burn-in but just Image Retention.
Did Ayn already say they figured out a software fix for the issue?
im hoping get universal qualcomm linux driver ...
