Would definitely be too slow. It’ll work, but if you want to get this thing working with SteamOS I’d just recommend getting the highest sku for either variant to take no chances.

Beforehand I’d only be recommending higher tiers for just the larger internal storage, but now that Valve decided to just make Arm-SteamOS a thing, a high amount of RAM is about to be a lot more important/desirable.

For the most part the main difficulty with Arm was always just the very nature of actually getting Steam games to run relatively seamlessly. It frankly doesn’t matter if the stock Arm-SteamOS doesn’t work out of the box with non-VR headset stuff, because all of it is open source in the first place.

So all that’s needed is for people to make forks of its version of Arm-SteamOS with the more standard Game Mode controls, since Valve having FEX and Proton working seamlessly on an Arm build pretty much opens the floodgates for making it possible.

The quiet part here is the "16gb ram". If we ever get steamOS ported to other devices, it will probably require at least 16gb (or more through chroot). I can see everyone that bought the 8gb/12gb version of the konkr/odin3 being left out

I mean, we’d already need to modify the default image to support the screen, controls, and in general to not use whatever UI they have planned to work in VR (and that’s ignoring the extra required work to get it running with different chipsets like the 8 Elite or even the 8 Gen 2 for earlier devices, not all the different types of WiFi, Bluetooth, usb-protocols for each device).

Modifying it to also support lower or higher ram values just makes sense.

You need access to the boot loader for most phones, tablets and devices like that. Not as simple as installing an OS on a computer that has a BIOS.

Huh? Like flashing anything to devices. Obviously esp32s and boards like that are built to flash basic firmware but it's still annoying and difficult sometimes. Look up boot loaders and how all that works. Devices not made specifically for anyone to flash whatever they want won't always be able to change their firmware/OS.

Well, it would require a bit of modding to properly have the system drivers for the screen and the controls working properly (alongside stuff like specific wifi chip and other internal components), but that honestly should be pretty simple overall.

android 4.X is really the golden era of flashing, not sure if you're familar with that era. But its such a good time.

agree on this part, bootloader are usually locked by OEM/Brand, you need to have unlock bootloader to be able to do anything like flashing ROM or firmware into the device.

android/phone device are not as simple because they're not as open as PC platform.(Microsoft been trying hard to make something similar IE.Closed environment and locking you to windows alone, but always faced with backlash.)

snapdragon would be the easiest in the past for flashing since in the past, tools for flashing are easily accessible and there's alot of developers are working on it.

but mediatek would be totally another different territory. I remember i have to grab the tools from the darkweb, since it's distributed only in the dark web due to legal issues, and the flashing method or tools is totally different compare to snapdragon tools available in the public. The only difference that i can share is, mediatek tools are more destructive.

for this part here, Valve already has done their part. It is up to maker of device to adopt steamOS into their device or not.

from what i understand, adoption rate will be low, mainly because majority of device makers are phone manufacturer, so phone manufacturer definitely wont be on board with this. Since phone are much more universal usage as in calls, sms, communication, etc. while steamOS can browse internet, play games, but wont be able to have communication function like sim/esim calls, sms.
you can say steamOS can further develop to include this, but phone company wouldn't be so easy to give up their million/billion dollar investment on their custom launcher/rom bloated with apps and lock you in their OS environment.

Tablet would be a decent territory for steamOS to get into, but then, time will tell. Only if tablet makers make tablets with SteamOS built-in.

Konkr? Ayaneo? handheld android device makers? All of them probably will move onto steamOS

as to why? Google has already announce that they're giving middle fingers to everyone esspecially towards emulator developers by locking sideloading.
Inorder for developer to continue working on emulator on android by google, they would need to submit their identity as developers inorder to allow their app to be able to sideload.

this creates a vulnerable point as it would enable game companies such as nintendo to go after the developer develope the emulators. All nintendo need to do is send lawyer letters to Google, and Google would be happy to oblige and provide personal information of the emulator developer to ruin the developer's life.

SteamOS from what i understand, Valve has already create the Steam Frame, which is a VR headset with steamOS built inside it running Snapdragon. and we would load apk onto it.(AKA Sideload without Google requirement to verify developer identity)

Odin 3 / Konkr Pocket Fit, would probably be my last Google android handheld console, and i'll be only buying SteamOS console in the future.

Well I think whoever at Google is at least paying a little attention, they are working on better controller integration for Android. Who knows when that gets released though. Maybe they continue to add things that make it beneficial for companies to use it. I remember seeing work on "desktop" features for Android as well but who knows. They are attempting an Android for PC or whatever they're calling it. Also ChromeOS is being replaced with android. I guess in a few years we'll see how far they go with everything.

While I would prefer OLED on the Konkr I think better ergonomics and a still excellent IPS screen is the way to go personally.
I have both the previously released Odins and while still very good wasnt thrilled with ergonomics on both and needed a grip , the Konkr doesn’t need them

The O3 looks great with bigger sticks but prefer Xbox layout with the face buttons that the O3 doesn’t have

In all seriousness though, there’s honestly a more than nonzero chance all these cancellations are in fact the exact reason for the delays, since they have to sort through and make sure they cancel all the shipments for those canceled orders before they end up paying late fees for wasting said shipping service’s time.

So, if that is the case, this is unfortunately likely to be a feedback loop where the more people are canceling sporadically (cause it’s not like everyone’s doing this at once, it’s pretty much 24/7 of at least 1 person canceling per every couple minutes), the worse delays will get (which results in more people canceling, and then you know the rest).

The real question is if it would help things like AetherSX2 or if something has to be implemented on their end as well (which will obviously never be implemented)

If you're referring to a 4-digit pledge ID you might have, it was used on Indiegogo before some recent changes and was somehow changed to a longer ID made up of digits and ending in a single letter, eg. 174648582Z

You should be able to see your current ID on your Indiegogo pledge page.

As to how the numbers work… I'm not sure anyone outside of Ayaneo or Indiegogo knows. They seem to be mostly 9 digits + 1 letter, increasing normally, until you find quite a 6 + 1 strings and 7+1 strings in eg. the second 8+128 batch.

All in all it looks pretty opaque, but to be fair it's rare to see a company publish a schedule of units going out. I don't think Ayaneo wants us to analyze it ; it's just a sort of olive branch that says "we're doing something" to try to appease the suckers customers.

The Odin 3 is a lot more expensive once you factor in the almost necessary grip, but it does have both an OLED screen, and apparently fantastic speakers.

The Konkr is more ergonomic, has quite a few more inputs and is a lot cheaper. But the screen is a (very good) LCD.

Definitely, it’s still one of the things I prefer about the Pocket DS over the Thor, considering the Pocket DS literally takes up less space in its case than the Thor does in its own.

But of course, I’m right now trying the Thor since I finally got the replacement speakers and swapped them in, and (at least currently) they definitely sound much better than the old ones that were in it (or at least they sound way more like they actually should), so that’s great as well.

Well, for the most part the reviews I’ve seen that did the comparison said they do actually prefer the Pocket Fit ergo’s (although that’s mainly on them saying they think the Odin 3 is just a bit too small for their liking), where the main thing they like about the Odin 3 is the screen and chipset (and even that has its caveats on the whole compatibility thing), as well as the fact that it’s still overall a good handheld.

I doubt the Odin 3 will be as comfortable, this just has a good size and the ergo bumps bulking out a lil more to the bottom feels right

those protector caps you put on controller sticks are too big, you would need to put some bigger ones like the Odin 2 Portal ones on this first

like left is the standard stem Retroid, Ayn, Anbernic and Aya use... the caps would need a stem that looks more like that one the right to fit from how they look, dunno what they smoked there tbh

best console compatibility and the G3 Gen3 KONKR wins out against the Odin 3

if you want to mainly do PC emulation it's honestly between the 8 Elite handhelds, here you may want to consider the Odin 3 for the screen or the KONKR for the ergo and trigger locks
