for the image to look right i suppose you would calc the distance between the screens and use the dpi to get the pixel "distance". personally i just cropped/scaled my images to 640x960 then halved them. it works for me 😄

The screens on these are murder on eyes, whereas a dedicated ereader is built for this - eye fatigue is not a thing. Soft lighting on them helps. Its night and day differences.

I upscaled a photo from Anbernic’s website and measured 189 pixels between the screens. So yeah, something around the 190 pixels mark should look right.

Honestly. I cannot stress this enough, even digital screens like an iPad or phone can't compare, then you down down the scale to these handhelds? Its...even more than a night and day difference.

I have a Kindle Oasis and a BOOX Go Color 7 (gen II) and I wouldn't ever want to turn to anything different. Check some sites or videos on how e-ink compares to regular displays if you're interested!

I understand there is a convenience of having an all-in-one device, but that's why I like ereaders, they make me appreciate reading without distractions. I'm obsessed with reading.

there are directional stick(retro games) and analog stick(modern games). Anbernic seems to have this idea to separate them on their devices. in the case of the RG DS, it's directional

the same way people complain about the sticks on H700 devices, they're actually very good for retro games, especially arcades but cardinal snapping is bad for modern games

The chipset in the RG-DS is unfortunately too weak to get the best experience for DS Emulation. MelonDS is the only viable emulator with touchscreen controls for ARM Linux. Drastic touchscreen controls on ARM Linux are completely dysfunctional.

iirc, ES_DE is pre-configured for drastic v2.6 while anbernic shipped with modified v2.5. In Dajisho you can change the launch argument to do that. Not sure about ES-DE

What happens is the top screen is sort of locked into the top screen of the game, with the bottom screen staying as the frontend

Yeah, I’ve got it working fine on the zero40 on Linux. Drastic seems to expect screenspace touch coordinates but SDL2 returns normalized coordinates. The shim or custom SDL just needs to convert them to screen.

my biggest takebacks from playing two team-matches of double-dash on a friend's unit very much is "who the hell made this fork???"(anbernic) and "why doesn't everyone just use 2x+fxaa? it ghosts just like the dsi screen"

Those microswitches though... they're evil. they will not be compatible with fighting or arena games.
the rubber on the sticks is too slippery, and you can't put vita caps on them, because they make the unit uncloseable.

Once everything is working on a device(or mostly) I usually spend some time finding default uv’s for it. Helps a little, but won’t like a night and day difference. If stock is just setting the governor to performance that’ll be a huge benefit to any cfw that uses something like schedutil

Anbernic's not out here making mad expensive handhelds (though they do have their higher spec options), for the most part they're making affordable handhelds that mostly get the job done. you can't expect perfection from emulation, and by and large i think Anbernic does a pretty good job even if it takes a minute to get there sometimes

community support does do a lot of heavy lifting though haha

For me Anbernic is the most retro Retro Handheld company there is. They've Enhanced, Modernized, and even Reinvented retro gaming experiences. Unfortunately I don't get this experience with Retroid or Ayn products as many people pushing their products on you would like to believe.

The only other company that came close to this was Powkiddy. But we haven't heard anything from them in the past few months. 😔
