I've not really played anything on it yet, still getting the feel of it. But general first impressions? I'm liking it. Firing up drastic and playing ds is nice. Switching back to the desktop etc feels fairly smooth. Given the reviews I expected it to feel .. less smooth? But nah, I'm liking it.

Been fighting with the software this evening trying to get a front-end set up. ES-DE has a couple of issues. You can’t install custom themes as Russ noted. Running it on the bottom with the ‘launch games on other screen’ doesn’t work too well with Drastic either. The bottom screen doesn’t switch to the game automatically, you have to manually swipe up to select the Drastic app.

Both ES-DE and Daijisho had an issue launching NDS games directly, they would just launch Drastic instead. Luckily I found a fix for Daijisho on an old Reddit post here: https://www.reddit.com/r/retroid/comments/10vod0m/help_needed_daijisho_opens_drastic_app_not_game/

You can plug it into your PC, if you have one. Just use a cable and it'll appear. Swipe from the top on the bottom screen and change the 'USB Preferences' to 'File Transfer'

Then move the ROMs into the requisite folders.

Well I will give two recommendations to you and you can check out each one
Daijisho is my personal most used frontend, and it's a very clean and nice looking one at that
Es-de is easily the most well known and has the most themes
YouTube has plenty of videos going over each
I will say, if iiSu shapes up well despite all the controversy or whatever, it has the potential to stomp the rest. Time will tell.

Before the update, it was pretty terrible

some random first impressions:

• Red piano finish looks super cheap but also kind of cool?
• Black looks kinda boring when opened, kinda wish I had gone for blue now, but I'm not a fan of the painted bezels 😬
• Start/Select/Back/Anbernic buttons feel super stiff and crunchy, very unpleasant tbh, but you only use these rarely so alright
• Triggers are the usual mouse click style triggers seen in other Anbernic's, noisy but they are alright, they do the job
• Dpad and face buttons are hard microswitches ala Vita, very reminiscent of the ones on the RG35XXSP if not identical; I prefer rubber membrane, but these are pleasant enough to use while in-game. I would say they are a tad inferior compared to original hardware, but still pretty decent
• Sticks are kinda bad, like switch joycon sticks, but with an even smaller cap and range. But they are usable in a pinch, and they are not in a bad position, they work ergonomically
• Included stylus is surprisingly good? I wasn't expecting much but I really like it, it is relatively small and lightweight and touch latency/accuracy aside it does feel in the ballpark of using the real thing
• Screens are alright, you can tell they are low res, but the colors are pretty good for what it is, and despite lacking integer scale I prefer them over original hardware
• Speaking of which I haven't found lack of integer scale a deal breaker, the bilinear sharp DraStic shader does a good job of balancing pixels; if you squint you can see pixels not being 100% sharp, but it's nothing you haven't seen in other handhelds before, it's totally fine

• OH MY GOD is the speakers buzz ANNOYING. Static noise is constantly coming out of the speakers and if you are in a quiet room and play at low volume you hear it. You can kinda sorta pretend that it's not there but it's there. Seriously considering opening it up and applying some aluminum foil to the speaker wires
• When actually in game I'm seeing some occasional micro stutters and dropped frames, even at x1 with wifi off, drastic restarted etc. I'm not sure what's going on, need to investigate further, but it feels like an out of sync screen refresh rate or an vsync issue (drastic doesn't seem to have a vsync toggle though, as far as I can tell)

I think it's not a performance issue but something more funky like the refresh rate of the screen or something about power management, I don't know

it's not breaking to the point where you can't play, but if you know a particular game by heart you'll "feel" it if you know what I mean

RG DS uses custom Drastic, which doesn’t allow multiplayer. MelonDS, which does have multiplayer, is not possible on this device unless someone managed a workaround

Hi all. Mine came in three days ago from Shopee Philippines. Painted the cover with fingerprint resistant paint because I hate the glossy cover which was an absolute fingerprint magnet. So far so good. Mine does not have the speaker hum. I installed both tempered glass screen protectors which came in the box but I think they are a little bit too thick. You'll feel them having some contact when you close the cover. Software wise I think I will switch to GammaOS immediately when it gets released. RG Launcher is just a little it too basic and too lacking in features to be usable for me. Mine came in with v1.14 btw and flashed it to v1.15 myself.

I'm a bit of a Stan for rhythm games and surprisingly I think this is the most playable I've had these games emulated so far? There definitely is micro stutter and frame pacing issues and you can still feel it's not quite consistent but with medium audio lag (it's very high out of the box) I am able to play songs on lego rock band at high and expert difficulty.

Just frustrating as it's SO close to being really good. If only you can adjust the video delay a touch to dial it in perfectly.
