Unexpectedly, I finally have ordered a Mini Flip. A black one. I have hesitated with a yellow because I was not able to decide whether the color was more "canary" or defenitely "mustard". There are two "standards" for usb audio : one with DAC and the other without dac. The first one gets a digital signal while the latter gets an analog signal. Obviously they aren' innterchangeable

It’s not much more expensive. However at scale it is a small difference in cost. Domestic customers in china have less expendable income (and are generally less fussy/focused on high quality), this might be a factor Miyoo think is worth balancing

The costs are higher... it's not just the cost of the parts... it make the circuits more complex during development, it requires special firmware and software to handle the negotiation of power(gotta pay someone to develop it)... it needs testing to ensure safety and working properly... If you consider the costs of both hardware, software, and labor needed... it doesn't make sense for a cheap device like these.

Yes and no. MainUI is closed source which Onion still uses. So there are limitations with UI and other things.

Things like text scrolling and themes and other. Onion is a heavily modified stock OS with its own toolset and optimizations. It’s not a full ground up and therefore bound to Mini/MMP/Mini Flip

Yes and no. It handles the new screen correctly... but various themes were designed for 640x480(v1-v3 and mm+) and cause graphical glitches on the v4 and the miyoo mini flip because the images are the wrong size instead of being 750x560.

So not all themes are compatible.

I have successfully got rid of the glitches by modifying the images in my theme and stretching them to fit the resolution of the v4.

.tmp_update may make more sense than you realize. On many Miyoo devices it is used as our hijacking point to wrest control from the stock OS, so it’s not actually for temporary update data the way spruce, MinUI, Onion, and I’m assuming Allium use it

I’m doing away with hidden folders on my new projects, instead just modifying nand to check for a main.sh at the root of the SD card (and falling back to stock behavior if it doesn’t exist). I don’t think I’ll update MinUI to do this but that’s how I’m planning to do things going forward.

So, closed, the Flip is 53% of the One35 volume. Absolutely no contest even for me who value slimness over volume for pocketability.

And the Flip's screen is 55% of the global top surface and a 29% screen/surface ratio (opened). That's 33% for the One35, which can't close, obviously.

The screen/surface ratio is meaningless for a flip. But if the overall volume difference was smaller, the Flip beeing thicker, I probably would have chosen the One35 over the Flip. It may sound like apple and oranges for some, but it makes sense to me regarding my very own needs/wishes.

Some PS1 games won't run because of performance, and others won't be nice because of DPad only. As of NDS, the small screen forbids to display 2 screens at the same time and switching is not fun to me. Plus some games won't be playable due to too small fonts.

I'm french, hence the versions. But you get the idea. I want very minimal screen switches and I am very conservative and picky. So no touch thing and very unuseful information on the second, if any.

Since there are other systems, if there are good versions of a title with just one screen, then it will not appear here. I include Arcade as well on my SD card so the question of the "definitive" version is quite often quickly solved when it comes to action games.
