#Retroid Pocket 6
1 messages · Page 9 of 1
I honestly think the fact the hinge issue was so widespread, helped with their level of support in my case. I am on the fence as well between a RP6 and KONKR Fit. I really like what I see on the KONKR as far as specs with that G3 processor, but their poor product release and complaints of scuffed off units turns me off. It sounds like Ayaneo might not have the best support
so do i wait for this to be good or wait for the rp7 to be announced. i have the flipo 2 already
No reason to get the RP7. The RP8 Pro+will blow it out of the water
Meaning think about what the RP6 can do that the Flip 2 can't. Then will you be disappointed with what the RP6 can't do?
Pretty much
does anyone know if it is possible to run Resident Evil 1 for GameCube on dolphin and with which settings?
It should be extremely possible
I don't think it's that intensive of a game, given the pre-rendered backgrounds
Only issue I can think of is the emulator not playing nice with the visuals
it could be one with upscaling bugs on the backgrounds but I think it should be fine
Had an extremely cursed thought
Imagine using AI to expand the 4:3 backgrounds to 16:9
I mean, they're already hyping hard AI to do 2d-3d for 'flat' content.
Review units by end of December 🙏
Tomorrow is past mid december so it's the end of december therefore it will be tomorrow
And then shipping mid January no? January 1st is part of the first half of January so it should start shipping then
Early January they said , so it's January 1st which is early January
My Taobao preorder says I can pay for it on the 15th of January. Not sure if that's a placeholder date, but it's at least a date
1h40m left for batch 1... I do not need an RP 6 ahhh
But I want a lavender handheld...
I want a lavender handheld with transparent buttons
🥵 🥵 🥵
Tbf with how the purple glass of the Thor/Odin 3 turned out... i'm not convinced the lavender will look quite so amazing as its render
I didn’t need one. But ordered one 🙈
Join me! 🤣
batch 2 isn't scheduled to ship until march, word of warning
Yeah there's still 22 mins to get into batch 1
Nah yknow i think i've talked myself out of it, i really only want it cause i think that lavender colour rules, and I do not trust them to get that exact shade on the glass front
I would be happy to be proven wrong!!
i have my portal, im fine i think 😄
Thats fair. Always 2nd hand market 😅 or AliExpress sales if it does turn out to be the lavender you’re after
Maybe Linda'll stick it on Moorechip's Ali store and we get a nice lil' combination coupon/paypal/tax refund
if it was the old design I would hit the button
One can dream and hope 🙏
The silver is so sexy
welp, I missed this window
no rp6 till March it is
they should have given a couple more days for fomo sales
At least 24 hour's notice would have drawn in a few more fomo sales i reckon yeah
I will indeed admit that I fomo'd in, might be the last batch one order given I clicked purchase a little after 7
I haven't had a device that can support turnip drivers yet and the size and price point on this ultimately sealed the deal
The rush announcement makes me think that it’s not a fomo sale strategy but a price increase announcement
Always black...
I didn’t fomo in I just ordered cuz I was a decent gamehub machine
the real window was when it was available for 20% off with paypal pay in 4
Not everybody got that deal unfortunately
If I had access to that promo, I probably would have used it to buy a new phone tbh
Yeah 20% off a $200 handheld is a bit of a waste imo. Much better things I could’ve used that 20% on
Like a $300 handheld
20% off was unlimited uses for a while
I heard people say it was only a single use
Would the g2 instead of a base rp6 be the better buy since they raised prices and on second batch shipping now?
If you cannot wait take the G2, else just get the rp6
The fact that the 8g2 is such a well supported chip makes $10 a steal to pay extra in terms of what you're getting imo
It's in a bunch of really popular devices, whereas the g2's chip is literally only in the g2, though it is very similar
what's wrong with the purple glass of the gods?
It's like they mixed the purple with grey... Like, if you poured red wine into porridge lol
Makes me wish it was still available, but the new variant will suffice.
Hi guys. Shud i pre order the rp6 or wait?
Im scared if i wait, ram prices will cause a price increase. But i also feel waiting wud be safer so i can wait for reviews to come out
tough call. You'll be waiting until march at earliest for a preorder now. Always better waiting on reviews though
Ya waiting is safer eh?
I'm really hoping the silver will have a metallic look
Hard to tell with the renders
I kinda liked it after the unboxing
That's cool, these things are subjective after all! Did you pick up a purple Thor or Odin 3 yourself?
Yup, I love purple although I had some doubts after watching it in some videos and pics but once I unboxed it looked great, no regrets about the color; the only regret was picking the 12gb over the 16gb version for +77€
Does anyone know if the discount codes still work on the website?
Is 5.5" a good screen size for game streaming or is text too small?
depends on each game, but you can probably try on your phone and see how it looks for you
It's been fine for me most of the time. It's a great compromise for portability, but if thos was your only streaming device and you plan to use it mostly at home and not carry it out of the house much I'd personally get an Odin 2 Portal instead.
I do use my RP5 for streaming a ton though and have ordered an RP6 too because of the 120Hz OLED and better wifi.
I think it's probably fine for most games the issues might be for games that rely on you reading a lot of text but usually there are scaling options for games in their own settings or maybe you can use mods if needed
Nothing's 100 percent but I think 5.5 is plenty big
It’s ok but I would go larger if that’s what your main use is maybe the magmi one they just showed when it drops
So.. wait for the rp6 or get an rp5? Im not rushing for a device, im playing psp and under but hoping to futureproof the device incase steamOS finallly supports arm devices
The RP6 would be a better choice, IMO. If you are planning on doing PC-related stuff, then it'll be better to grab the 12/256 version.
I sold my Flip2 to get an RP6 but i am waiting for reviews , always get the newer one tbh Specially when the chip on the RP6 is optmized so well for higher end emulation
I will play GBA on my RG34xx while i wait 😅
When is Retro corp getting their unit? 😮
Waiting patiently for his review as well ^
how do you guys sell your old retro handhelds? ebay?
Marketplace here on the server
On the retroid server someone posted an email supposedly from retroid showing that they plan on showing the rp6 hands on this weekend
would be good to see more
I've had a lot of time to think on whether I want this or the Odin 3, and I really wanted the latter.
That said, I've realized 8gen2 is good enough for me, and also I want to get a great gift for both my brother and I for him to play stuff like the Sonic Adventure games (which I'm assuming would run well on 8Gen2 in Gamehub Lite or the like with mods)
There's two different batches of pre-orders now. Might be less risky for us to pre-order this as the Xmas gift for him. I'm banking on the second batch having less issues than the first batch.
How good is their 1 year warranty? (Website doesn't say it has warranty, but I saw in the Retroid server that it does)
yeah 8gen 2 is still an insanely good chip
Honestly surprising they didn’t also raise the price even more.
If early bird ending early is all that happens pricing wise for this, that’s good
Still, gotta love AI screwing with prices…
"This weekend is the target" on the last day of the weekend makes me think it won't be tonight 😢
My day is ruined 😭
Because it was already Monday in China when you asked
It wasn't my email but that wasn't the issue
They just changed the target date
😢
Yeah I'm surprised the price hasn't gone up past base
They're going to ship it without reviews 😑
Same
As long as I get mine I’ll be happy
i regret not ordering one.
Whereas I'm torn on regretting ordering one, now that they're going to ship without reviews... If there's issues there is no time to cancel. Ouch.
i'm just going to enjoy what I have. RG477M will have to suffice for 2026. its going to be a rough year for tech
how do we know they're going to ship without reviews?
We don't know yet, but given how their show off video alone is going to be on the last weekend of the year, so close to shipping, things aren't looking good. I doubt there will be time for reviewers to properly go over the unit before they ship.
Which is the risk you take when you pre-order, I guess. I did do so precisely because of the ram shortage. Still not good to worry. Retroid's track record with the first batch isn't good either.
But with the ram thing, one is truly stuck between a rock and a hard place. Still pondering if I should cancel or not.
Honestly I'm not that worried about the release except for maybe the screen
Sure that makes sense. Hardly a for sure thing though. Also I feel like reviewers are getting a bit better at their skepticism and the amount of reviewers that get them matters as well. More eyes on it means more possibility of folks finding issues.
Retroid has also shown their ability to make it right when they mess up. So, I’m willing to give them the benefit of the doubt here, especially considering I’ve already preordered the 12gb model and got it at the discounted price. Seems like a worthwhile handheld for a few months to a year if the ram crisis gets to be a reality for an extended period.
The RP6 will be my first handle period. How has Retroid fixed issues from previous "first batch" in the past? Like do you have to ship your unit in and wait for a replacement? Or ?
well with the pocket mini they shipped you a whole screen and back plate to install on your own. A lot of issues are typically resolved by most of these company's via a software update though.
Ah ok ok cool thank you
Same with the RP4 (or 3?). It had faulty shoulder button springs. They sent a replacement backplate and you had to DIY it. It was an easy replacement, but still a bit unnerving having to pop it out of plastic clips
compared to many others brands, I feel like their pre-order vs retail price is torerable, so I would not mind ordering one later, after reviews are in.
It will be interesting to see how good the 120hz OLED screen is. I personally not interested in the form factor of RP6 and waiting for Flip 3
Same, but my fear is them raising the price without warning due to the ram scarcity, so that's why I pre-ordered it at the early bird price. I will be half regreting it until it's in my hands (hopefully) issue free though.
If got chance, try to purchase the rp6 at retail prices 229 asap.
The reason is that I fear that due to increase in ddr4 ram pricing, Retroid may followup with increase price to 239 or worse 249 in future.
All very valid fears, I will give you that. For now, I’m just glad they only decided to end the early bird but not raising prices all together. I’d imagine they would say something about price change if it comes to that. Hopefully not🤞
Yellow one actually looks cool
oooh they look nice
I still would've loved to see the original design IRL but it is the RP5 design after all which is a beloved universal design
The orange looks good. But leant my lesson about changing colour, will stick with black
Real life RP6 pictures! . . . But no pictures of the purple glass arghh
maybe I should have ordered the silver
Very interested in the purple. Looking forward to how that turns out
Can you make one in green ? Green ( greatest color ever ) never gets some love

This one's more saturated.
It's not saturated , it's perfect 💚
I wouldn't even turn on the RGB on a shell like this tbh
Lord Percy turns his hand to alchemy and succeeds in creating something green.

silver shell looks pretty
I think silver's gonna be the move for this one
it's like retro grey but with all the oil from your greasy fingers pre built in
Is the interior of the transparent case silvered, or is it silver paint? The latter is always pretty questionable IME
gotta see how the front looks with the glass
they might do something weird like the transparent thor/odin 3
why must they showcase stretched-out games? 😅
Seriously tempted by the orange one here, but I really do have absolutely no need for another SD8G2.
Yeah! It looks more like dragon cheese than orange
I was tempted until I’d have to wait till March
Extremely delayed gratification.
Yeah it's a long wait
Yellow
The rbg lighting is orange but that’s it
It’s to dragon cheesy to be considered orange
This guy gets it!
So does the orange color have crystal buttons? Ik the rest of the colors(minus the 16 bit) have them. Just curious.
Do you mean transparent buttons?
Yeah
Posted here
Well no they will at least for the black buttons on the black color. They've said that they haven't gotten ahold of the transparent buttons yet so what they showcased was just regular buttons but the end product will have transparent buttons
Oh my bad
Is the rp6 going to be the exact same model as RP5 and Gen 2? I have the grip for the RP5 and wondering if it will fit
It's supposedly a tad bigger
Hard to see but RP 6 Is white behind the purple rp5
I see, thanks 🙏
Probably not
Imma crash out if the video isn't released today 😔
I don’t know why they don’t make the sticks top and bottom. Is it because they’re worried it might clash with Odin’s design?
You can actually choose their positions when you order starting with RP6 (the left stick at least)
No such option for the G2 though
Stick top rp6 jumpscare
YES
odin3 with extra steps
since we are apparently doing 8 gen 2 for every size imaginable now, 5 inch rp5 when?
8 gen 2 classic when? 😅
give me a 2.8 inch micro with a 8 gen 2
most people don't know it yet but the world needs it
That makes absolutely zero sense, unless you're not being serious?
You can try pitch this to onexsugar
I've been trying to tell magicx but they won't listen
dead serious
why not 8 gen 2 with 4.7” 4:3
The 476H with an 8 Gen 2 would’ve been glorious, but anbernic isn’t capable of releasing a console that actually would make sense
If I have to pick between t820 and a good design or s8g2 and the cramped rp5++ design…
I’m picking the 476h.
There are more to handhelds than specs.
(I’m gonna be playing mostly ps1 games either way)
oh fuck that'd be nice 😄
I Like the RP5/G2-design but the stick on top is even nicer. Guess it’s up to taste.
What I was getting at was a 476h + 8 gen 2, which would be an absolute hit.
Stick up top with the gen 2 should be pretty great
RP6 reviewnits shipping around 10th Jan

I asked like 2-3 times now...
no response
Good. They must have taken extra time to get it right. Likely won't arrive in time for me to play Fatal Frame for this month's GotM though, even if they ship shortly after to early birds.
I preordered through Aliexpress, the preorder price is too tempting
It's a shame they don't send you review units! Maybe one day...
Well, this works out for me.
I got my Xmas money from my dad early, but it still wasn’t enough (heavily underestimated taxes and shipping costs), but I’ll have enough later in the month after my next check or two.
Definitely watching the reviews first
Looks like the aliexpress preorders are geoblocked as not appearing on their store here
although probably a good thing, now I'm not tempted!
I'm digging the air mini so far
Very good for the price
Excellent controls and great screen
Looks beautiful tbh It's not metallic like the renders , it's a very elegant / retro purple shade
That’s a great purple
I want to see what the Silver looks like in a proper video now
Looks pretty, if not for the buttons, I might have regretted getting the yellow one instead of the purple. Also surprised to see homecoming in that video; secret guilty pleasure of mine.
Hopes that the early batch will be fine are rising.
i'm criminally boring and only buy black devices but gyat that purple looks nice, diffuses the glass front super well
black with glass front looks tacky, bring back the rp4 form factor cowards 🦅
scrubbed through that video quickly and right away i like how quiet the buttons are compared to the G2
Our Man In China™️ kicks off the new year in style, with the first review of the eagerly anticipated Retroid Pocket 6 handheld emulation console!

^ translated to english
That is a real nice purple
@fiery barn didn’t you want the purple? Might have to give linda a ring 😅
Sorry if I'l'm too lazy to watch, but did they test if the screen is a trus 120Hz or something weired ? And if the fan noise is OK ?
Da fuq is that lip around the device?
Does indeed look like they nailed the colour!
nothing about the 120hz but the fan noise when it kicks on higher is still quiet, around 42-43 db which is like the steam deck oled
definitely value the quiet buttons & fan a lot more as a dad looking to do quick sessions around bedtime without driving my wife crazy haha
as i'm sure many people can relate with this hobby
This might be worse than the design they put on the Flip 2's lid
Do like my man's fleece tho
That purple would look sweet with some black sticks like the blue vita 2k
that looks cool
too bad the video is potato quality
Damn, I kinda regret not picking up the purple now
yeah the purple is the biggest winner of today haha
i wasn't keen on that colour at first since I wanted GC purple like my RP5
I wonder if it's possible to ask them to switch colour on aliexpress? though knowing my luck they will send a black model to me
Someone on the Retroid Discord got a 1080p copy of the Billibilli video:
(no AI voiceover tho)
Think I need to get the cheese color
That cheese color looks grotesque ngl
But that's the dweeb color so I can't hate on it too much
I chose grey with skittles because i need some accents with the buttons rather than all the same colour
yeah I’m gonna ban this person from my channel now
I joined a recent-ish stream late but remember at the end you saying to him "thanks for shilling your channel" lol
I don't mind the shilling so much but pulling a nitrix is crossing the line
I need to start a Nittrx
seems like a profitable business model
I'll make my AI translation voice overs sound like Trump
instant hit
I really need to see what the Silver looks like
Seeing the video made me pleasantly surprised at how well-made the device looks overall, but I’m sure any issues present will come in the first batch 😅
Likely pre-ordering the 12/256 in either silver or purple. Second batch may have less issues
Oh he's been doing it for a while! Shame really cause I enjoyed some of his older videos (him and I share an unpopular opinion about Chrono Trigger lol), but he's pivoted into being the British Nittrx for some reason
Don't tell me you think Chrono Trigger is ass
Nah, I think it's a good game, a great game even, but people talk about it like it's the best JRPG ever made, best SNES game ever made, I just don't feel that. HyperPlay RPG did a list where he said FF6 was better than Chrono Trigger and i was like yeee lol
Ngl
I'm on team "it's ass"
I do think Wind Scene is one of the best tunes in games tho. I need a hip hop/trap remix of it (tbf I've never looked, there's prob loads)
tema de chrono trigger, siento mucho no haber podido subir videos pero tenia muchas tareas.
Yea most of them are on my Vita.
My favorite ones are the ones I haven't played.
So just about all of them
And by all I mean all except Persona 4
I have a more modern hot take: I don't enjoy the parrying in Clair Obscur and fear it will ruin a lot of future JRPGs cause people will try to copy it
Never played it
Probably won't
I have to finish Nier Replicant and the first FF7 remake
I looked forward to it for so long, and it's winning all kinds of awards, getting voted GOTY from multiple sites, from people who's opinions on games I respect... It's the hot new game in my fav genre... But I just don't like playing it lol
Backlogs eh, tis a nice problem to have!
Man I have over 200 games on my Vita and have played like 80 max.
Can count on one hand how many I actually finished
Rookie numbers dot png
Good thing about Replicant is that I already finished most of the game its just 1 ending I need to get
For FF7 It's the whole game
Yeah nice, i remember playing the old one on the PS3, didn't get too far tho
FF7 Remake is another one where I don't agree with others, like I feel like I must be doing something wrong, everyone says the battle system is the best in any JRPG, but I just find it frustrating, like I don't know what it wants from me
FF7 is my fav game so I feel like a duty to at least play these remakes and see how they'd fucked the story lol
So I hate-finished FF7 Remake, but Rebirth, I got to the final stage of the final boss and just couldn't do it, tbf I was underpowered, hadn't done any side quests etc, I ended up having to watch the ending on YouTube lol
I don't think I'm gonna bother with the third entry
I think I have the first of the remakes
I gave up after getting rawdogged by a giant house
That was around 2-3 years ago
Oh yeah that fight was hard!
That fight is horseshit
iirc it's immune to physical attacks which were my bread and butter
So I never had a chance
Coming from original FF7, Remake felt slower than the OG bc the fight sequences take forever and I think it breaks the flow of the game/story. I'd be good with just a nice remaster or even a de-master like 16-bit FFVII for EasyRPG.
What could’ve been 😭
At least it gave us a fun 24 hours of chaos when they changed the design based on opinions of people who weren’t buying in the first place lol
24 hours of them fixing the issues with the rp5 design just to go right back to the rp5 design
The irony now being that the G2 gen2 appears to outperform the 8gen2 in android games
it is more modern
True, but also funny that retroid despite going back to the drawing board will end up having more of these in people’s hands in the next few weeks than those who backed the konkr. Man this hobby is wild at times
its not outperforming
At what Hz?
Rebirth final boss was incredibly tough, it wasn't just you
I spent a few days banging my head against the wall with that one until I beat it
if you want to be even more confused with the battle system, play the yuffie dlc
I had to restart that one a few times until I figured out what the game wanted from me
Looks like PWM starts around 40-50% brightness
I'm still fairly certain it's the rp5 panel just a different driver/binned to allow 120hz
So the USB C port is off center. It's an issue if using the it with RPDS right?
Or just 'send it'. (and it works)
really bad design decision
That’s an important question. Say it is 600Hz (just large enough and a multiple of 60), then it is OK. But if it is something like 350Hz, then not great, to say the least.
My guess is that retroid is working on their own dual screen device right now and supporting the dual screen addon will not longer be a consideration of theirs, so this is likely intentional.
Is that possible ?
The display being a bit off-center isn't a huge deal. It looks like the USB slot is the same place as on the RP4, and I wasn't bothered by it when using the dual screen on that
Source?
there's enough wiggle room on the bottom area where the cable goes that if the port is not too off center it should be fine
it's only speculation at the moment
this thumbnail seems to suggest the RDS works
but oddly it's not anywhere in the video itself
Reason I ask is it would be good if the Retroid Dual Screen add on can be rub at 120hz
If its the same screen
Idk why retroid released that extension screen instead of just doing a dual-screen. every time i see one of those it looks like a monstrosity, like a kludged-up pipboy from fallout london.
it's clunky, but it's cheap if you already own an rp5/rpmini, and it does work if you don't mind the clunkiness
To be fair, they did it before anyone else (besides that one mega expensive ayaneo one), so I feel like they were just testing the concept out.
Given the success of the Thor, and seemingly the Anbernic DS, I expect them to become a lot more common around 2027 at the latest anyway, so I really think Retroid will make one too.
I like extension screen more than dual screen device. Clamshell means worse thumb sticks by default and I want the bottom screen to be 16:9, not the top screen. It's great that there are options
I like the concept better than a dual screen TBH. Don’t need a second screen all the time. So you can put it away to reduce weight and save more battery
Well...
Thought about it for several weeks now, and thought about it further past few days after getting the money needed.
I narrowed it down to between an RP6 and a Thor as I like smaller devices, and Odin 3 was definitely out of my budget. Unfortunately, I did not expect shipping to be so pricy, so it put the Thor Pro out of my budget, and I'm very uncertain about what will happen this year for my family income wise, so...
Looks like RP6 is going to be my first Android handheld 🙏
I think I want to wait and see how the dual-screen handheld market debvelops first anyway before getting one.
I already have my Anbernic SP as my clamshell, so I don't really need another clamshell rn
The concept are pricing are great but the execution is lacking. The exposed cables and sloppy look of it could have been remedied with a small backplate or something.
I can agree that they dropped the ball on cable management for the dual screen. It still looks like a prototype
Is that in USD? Do all Americans pay that much for shipping? That's insane. Shipping plus the increased second batch pricing puts it well in another tier compared to what I paid
It's USD yeah.
It's admittedly DHL, but the difference between 4px and DHL was 20 bucks to get faster and much more reliable shipping (I do not wanna risk 4px on a pre-order)
No surprises there why shipping is so pricy even if I had went 4px x3
Get rid of the worry free purchase. It’s scam.
I was going to ask for proof, but I’m seeing people say Retroid still offers a refund or ships again for free in the Retroid server (or that I can just do Chargebacks anyway)
So sure, I’ll remove it
Don’t know why it’s there as an option if they already do so without it though
There’s plenty of proof on the r/SBCGaming sub.
But if Retroid still offers help, that’s good on them
Just wanted to safe you a headache in the worst case
It comes from Shopify, the platform they and many others use for their online shop.
Gotcha.
Least I'll know now for next time
I've gotten my refund for the cancellation of Shopify's worry-free shipping thing
Via the Retroid Discord server.
:)
what a waste of company resources lol
What
No joy or whimsy
We need more whimsyposting
We need customizable boot jingles
Each RP6 comes with a coupon for a Tee Lopes custom jingle.
presenting... the all new Retroid boot jingle store
Damn, poor Tee fell on... hard times.
i wonder when review units will arrive
They seriously boasting the boot jingle?
That better not be the high point of the device
new boot jingle, same tinnitus speakers
People really getting upset over a boot jingle

What’s next, doxing the community manager again?
Again?
Can't wait for the R36 clones to follow suite and have ai jingles on startup 😌
Anyone heard if we're going to see pics of actual completed devices before they start shipping?
Worried the silver is going to be too "bling bling effect" for me
i was worried it wouldn't be metallic enough. i'm tryna be on this type shit.
Honestly, I kinda like the idea of boot jingles. Gives it character
Calm down Adin, you're making up boogeymen again.
I am almost tempted to get the RP6, with dpad on top, to be a Gamehub/Game Native device lol. Since I'd personally just be playing 2D indies on it anyway.
The orange with black highlights model looks nice.
A shame about the glass front
Only gotta wait until March for my unit to ship 😞🔫
Don’t think anyone cares enough about the jingle thing.
Maybe the people who think the Switch's UI doesn't have any soul?
Nice
Nice
Stick caps seem to be the ones they used on the Flip2 rather than the 5/G2, right? Or am I crazy
Hopefully soon
yup
I’d imagine that’s one of the colors most commonly getting sent to reviewers
I love the models that have the clear buttons.
Wonder why they chose to only do them on certain colors.
I'm so happy I went with the purple.
Even if they show the silver now, I don't think I'll change to that.
Yeah like the Orange would be so much better in all orange with crystal buttons rather than flat black. Seems like a waste to not get a crystal RP6.
the purple reminds me of 90s lambos like this
of all the images to illustrate your example that's what you chose?
damn i want this so bad, same as i wanted the first RP, then 2,3,4 and 5 never getting one because when im about to get it a new one comes up 😂
I don't buy very many devices at all.
35xxSP is my only emu handheld atm, at least until the RP6 arrives
Don't really need much else after that.
Maybe replacing my 35xxSP with a DS Lite or similarly sized dual-screen device
i wish i liked my SP more, or at least felt a need to use it more ;D
God i wished this had a 6" display
Then it'd really just be the odin 3
How come you didn't like it sp
didnt say i didn't like it, just i wish i liked/used it more ;D
Oh oh
I was thinking if I get 35xxsp but idk if I would use it more
i can prob sell mine 😄
That’s literally just an Odin 3
Is the odin 3 $220?
There was only 4 of those purple Lambos. And the first one got crashed before the video and a second one got crashed when they were filming it
What a beauty. Poor thing
pick the one you like, then put an egg in your shoe and beat it.
not surprised considering how they were driving them in the vid
What do you guys think the big controversy is going to be once this releases
I'm gonna wager "plastic too slippery"
Boot jingle
Realistically probably something related to the screen
Maybe we'll rerun triggergate.
I’ve seen people mention the PWM lol
Although iirc only effects a small amount of people
Yeah them conveniently getting a 120 hz screen the same size as the rp5 does have me a little suspicious tbh
Although I guess it could just be custom since the rp5 did do very well
Depends on how rushed the new design is after they scrapped the old design.
But seeing images and footage of it, I'm very impressed and surprised at how well-made it looks, even the internals looking fairly well-put
My personal guess would be screen as well.
I have no clue how badly I'm affected by PWM as I've only used a few OLED devices in my life so far
So I'm guessing most people are going dpad top?
Isn't it just an rp5
RP5 but longer triggers and shoulder buttons, a lil bit larger, and has a more pronounced lip around the front from what I noticed.
It likely will be fine, but who knows with Retroid lol
Hehe. True
I mean the design changes are so minimal I'd be shocked if they messed it up
Basically an rp5 they let the intern mess with margins on
Which is too bad imo. I thought the OG looked interesting
I’m fairly happy with the longer shoulder buttons and am a bit surprised it hasn’t been talked about much.
That might make a difference with the ergo bumps over the RP5 comfort wise
More room to press down for your finger
Maybe. My issue was less the shoulders and more how far down your thumbs had to go for sticks
Yeah, true.
I went with stick top, so that will be a bit more helpful for me for stick games.
Not sure how playing dpad-centric games will feel for me until I get my RP6
Yeah. Might wait til there's a bunch of reviews and then pick one up second hand
I have my Anbernic SP for most dpad games I’d wanna play if it turns out not very comfortable for me with dpad bottom
Dpad bottom for me. To avoid the hand cramps
Yup
If I wanted stick top I would’ve gone with the Odin 3
I'm guessing you'd need to buy the grip either way
If you don't really use sticks and put dpad top you probably don't need it
That's kinda my problem. The choice should be really easy but it's not for some reason.
Here's where I'm at: I'm primarily gonna be playing games that require the sticks. So stick top should be the obvious choice, but I prefer the way the dpad top configuration looks.
I use the grip for the rp5 but my hand still cramps unfortunately
I also like the look of the dpad top but functionally it doesn't make sense for my case
My hand doesn't cramp when using stick top controllers
I just don't want the grip in general
Then stick top makes even more sense
I mainly use Playstation controllers and I've never had much issue. This is likely due to hand size.
The grip somewhat remedies my issue but not completely, but a stick up top would mean I wouldn't need a grip at all
So do I, on a full sized controller like that it really doesn't matter where the dpad is for me
I rotate between ps5 controller and an Xbox controller for pc gaming
I never used any stick top controllers. Not for long anyways. Just PS3 and PS4.
And for those saying if I wanted dpad top I'd get an odin 2. But an odin 2 doesn't cost 229... And whenever I check only the max is available at 399
The base Odin 2 is back up if I'm not mistaken
It's still 300 right tho?
Yeah 300 is too high, and that's exactly why I'm happy retroid are giving people the option
Too high for me * I should clarify
More or less just waiting for Mangmi to drop another crumb of the Pocket Max. It's been a week+ since we last got something
Ah, I look forward to the shit show in there when the price is revealed and it's NOT under $200
EB maybe. Retail has absolutely no shot
He's in for the biggest kick in the balls
And I am so here for it😂
That price is really gonna make or break that handheld for me.
Around 200-220 retail is ideal for me but if branches into 250, I could get a second hand Odin 2 Portal at that price. Or the RP6.
If a second hand odin portal can be had at $250, seems like the no brainer to me. Same ish screen but way more power
Hm maybe I'll look into that too
There's just one teensy wheensy little problem with that
Not knowing the condition of the odin?
Whyd mangmi have to make modular buttons ffs
Oh no I already know the condition. Hell its 250 alongside the grip and a case. And thats with free shipping if i'm not mistaken
What's the problem 😮
It's in good condition from what I've seen
I have a reputation to uphold
If I don't spread the AntiAyn propaganda then who will?

If I buy that fucking Portal I can never show my face around here again
It'll cost me literally everything
I have to practice what I preach I'm afraid
Retroid pocket 6 it is 😂 I just can't justify it purely based on display size
There comes a time where that display size becomes irrelevant to me when it comes to devices.
It's usually due to price.
250+ and I'm only in it for performance anything else is secondary
Used to be me. But these old eyes of mine 🙁 I started with all the small devices, now I want to spoil my self.
I'm going to just wait another year and see how Gamehub gets on
Well my eye sight was always shit from the get go. But I wear glasses so screen size doesn't really matter to me all that much.
It usually doesn't for me either. Especially indie games and older systems. But seeing how well higher end games are now running on these chips, I want to play a big game and have the text legible. But each to their tbh, 5.5" is great but a no go for me when playing something like ghost of tsushima or horizon zero dawn
(why the redmagic astra was very appealing to me(
I think I'd be fine with 5.5". That's slightly bigger than the Vita's screen which is a device I use often.
Odin 3 is in a completely different price and power bracket.
Even the base model O3 is barely out of my budget.
For everything I want to play, the 8Gen2 on the RP6 is more than good enough. So I went stick top still
It's kind of like the Odin 2 Mini OLED we never had
I guess I should have put more emphasis on the I part
I admittedly wasn't sure if you were strictly talking for yourself there or not lol
But yeah, that's more than fair
But yeah I totally understand that the Odin 3 is beyond a lot of people’s budget
Odin 3 wasn’t out of my budget but if I’m paying $400+ I want to be able to play everything. Used ROG Allys are like 200-300 right now.
The RP6 was cheap enough to just be that nice sidekick device. I’m excited to finally get it!
I have a Legion Go S Z1 extreme and my RP6 will travel with me for PS2 emulation and light PC games
Konkr PF (shipping issues aside) is a MUCH better deal than an RP6, but it's also fucking ugly as shit. We're paying for the cuteness.
All glass front horizontals look the same, honestly.
Most do, but the KPF does not. It has a very peculiar and ugly design. Even the colors are awkward. Those dried blood red buttons and that weird orange Borat bodythong? It's 100% function over form and godbless it for that, but I want to slap the person who first drafted that in crayon on a bedroom wall somewhere.
Me too and actually think it’s the best looking Android handheld to date with the lovely ergonomic grips
Debating getting this for Destiny: Rising. It has taken over my life
I can agree there. They all look so similar that Konkr stands out a bit. Great design. Well done design team
G2 and rp5 are the same size too right?
So would that be a good idea of what a g2 would look like against an rp6
yep from what i understood g2 is basically RP5 shell ith new soc
As long as you're ok with not seeing it for another 3 months
I do like the look of the 6 much more than the 5
If not I would’ve just gotten the G2
G2 inherits the dumb hollow clacky face buttons from the 5 so that's s no-go for me. 6 seems to resolve that.
oh that didn't last long
I hope that's not the end of it
I was considering one
Just something I saw on Reddit, I didn’t actually check the page!
good point, though it's not a difficult DYI, I fixed mine on my RP5
how do we know the 6 resolves that anyway?
Seems like it's only the gc and 16 bit colors that are out of stock for the g2
that bilibili vid that popped up a few days ago showed the guy pressing em and he mentioned they're softer. Sounded quiet
neat
What was the fix, plain old tape?
Tape, rubber stoppers, small tufts of cotton or felt, etc. Whatever you can jam in there between the button and the shell.
I removed the default rubber membrane and replaced it with the membrane of a miyoo mini plus
Interesting.
it's not 100% perfect, buttons are a little jiggly and loose now, but they feel good to use
works on the RP Mini as well
Wonder if Anbernic membranes would do, got a spare.
most likely
you may have to trim it a little bit around the sides with scissors to fit
but otherwise all of these rubber membranes are pretty much the same
I genuinely hope it’s possible to physically swap the ABXY layout
The Nintendo layout is gonna get annoying when my main use cases are cloud gaming and pc emulation
maaaan that jawn looks like a sippy cup and you can keep it. it does spank the RP6 though.
The what now ?
my exact same reaction
that jawn ain't too bad man, but it's not have options for people with preffered looks.
The Retroid Pocket 6 ships its first batch of pre-orders on 15 January and we bring you gameplay footage from Batman Arkham Asylum (PC), Burnout Revenge (PS2), Mario Kart 7 (3DS) and Donkey Kong Returns 3D (3DS). Excellent emulation on the RP6!
Buy the Retroid Pocket 6:
https://www.goretroid.com/products/retroid-pocket-6-handheld?sca_ref=987565...
I'm guessing review units shipped but everyone is at CES so no one can review it
I guess Chris doesn't mind so whatever, but man HyperPlay RPG's new schtick of just stealing other's videos and uploading them on his own channel just rubs me the wrong way.
At least he credits the source this time instead of pretending a random guy on BilliBilli is his channel's "man in China"
is hyperplay the new nitrixx?
is the channel logo also stolen? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_Play
If we're going to call taking stuff from 1992-1996 stealing, this hobby is going to have a bad time.
Nintendo switch or this? haha jk
RP7
Flip 3>>>>>
Dropped the rez to 560. Maybe someone that knows CEMU tweaks better can get better performance. But this isn’t bad. Not for me though. #retroidpocket6
maybe they'll make one that doesn't self destruct this time
Hopefully
Yeah might as well wait tbh 😂
Need
Why is it a better deal?
Probably because of the better chip which people always assume is better than any older SoC.
It's understandable and kinda fair, but it's not always the case.
It's like when people were going around telling folks that the G2 is better than the 6 because it's already in stock, has a newer SoC, and has a later OS.
G2 is catered towards folks who are interested in playing high-end Android games.
the early bird price makes it a fantastic price to performance device, i guess
It's funny that the 477V actually plays BOTW better
Maybe it can run better with a mod / graphic pack
Price, performance, features. It has lots of nice QOL features like being able to switch LR triggers to buttons, and the triggers are very large etc. Screen is 6" 144hz (LCD, but still), 8000mAH batt. Things that would turn the RP6 into a 300-350$ device. So yeah, for the money it's a solid deal. Shieet even the TF Card slot is thoughtfully designed.
if only it was actually real and not hopes and dreams
This seems like all subjective stuff rather than actual objective benefits. Except maybe the battery size
So it might very well be “a better deal” for you but not everyone
This is how the whole “just get a steam deck bro” lunacy starts with new devices
To be fair, trigger locks are objectively good things. But the LCD screen is objectively bad compared to the OLED in the RP6 (unless you are in the tiny minority who is actually affected by PWM flicker if the RP6 even has that). So ... trade-offs.
But none of this really matters, because you're not getting a Konkr anytime soon.
it's funny because when the konkr pricing was announced people were feeling pretty optimistic about Ayaneo
the prevailing sentiment was "wow Ayaneo has finally turned around"
and then they proceeded to blow it
Company that's known to have been problematic for years is still a problem? Shocker 🗿
But tbf, there was a small hope that maybe Ayaneo would improve. Sad situation all around how much they fumbled it
I don't think I'll ever buy a device from them
Oh oh" people will wait for konkr fit over here because it's amazing product"
"so objective, except for the price, actual dimensions, actual hardware." so you acknowledge that you're just yapping for nothing
i am not going anywhere near KPF or ayaneo, but i'm not deluding myself into thinking i'll get more from the RP6. i will just like it more bc i don't like the konkr.
Disregarding my points as “yapping” instead of providing actual counter points shows a lot about your level of maturity
Anyway I definitely think your making a mountain out of a molehill
It’s really not this deep
Your "point" was that it's my personal opinion that it has a superior chip, bigger screen, more button modes, larger triggers, bigger battery and was 10$ cheaper. Start by actually addressing why these features which the RP6 has lesser versions of means that the device is not a better deal for the dollar then maybe you have some discussion going.
Well my point is that more buttons, bigger screen, and larger triggers aren’t objective benefits because not everyone wants those
As someone who's been playing his koknkr pocket fit all day
It slaps
Hope the RP6 can hold up against it
If not, mine will be one the wts channel pretty quickly
Hell I’m slightly irked the RP6 has back buttons, I really don’t want those
If they work with RA as Load/Save state they might be useful for me, unlike the "Android" buttons on the face. The back buttons seem to have a really deep click so they won't go off easily when playing.
Hard agree here.
Larger screen = Heavier and not as comfortable for smaller hands. The heavier part is a big issue for women, I can attest that I wasn't a fan of playing the OG switch in handheld mode cause it tired me out earlier than I liked, and the Konkr has a similar weight to OG switch with joycons attached.
Large Triggers = Again, not a concern for someone with smaller hands.
More Buttons: Don't care. I care way more that we can have the D-Pad up top, which is my preference as someone who mostly grew up with PS.
Better battery is good. The chip too... in theory. In practice, not gonna need it since I only want up to PS2. In the end, it comes down to my preference for the D-Pad, and the fact that, while Retroid has its issues, Ayaneo has way more, so I'm not inclined to go with them.
In the end, I don't see why people choosing another device is that offensive, even if you don't think it's better. Competition is wonderful, especially in this hobby, and we're all going to buy a new device by this time next year anyways, so is there any point to having any loyalty to a particular one over the other now?
Like, does anyone think Ayaneo would be offering the Konkr at that price if they were the only game in town? Hah, they're barely even offering as it is anyway
The chip too... in theory. In practice, not gonna need it since I only want up to PS2
To somewhat poke at this, a better chip can still be good for this kind of stuff. Since if it's not working as hard at the same task as a weaker chip, it's usually using much less energy/power than it and getting you more battery life, and less heat and fan noise.
That and it gives you more overhead for extras you may or may not care about. Upscaling, fancy shaders some people like to use, even just a better fast forward/turbo. But that's again extras.
I'm super hyped to get my review unit and make videos of the RP6, which will hopefully ship today... 🙏
@cloud lagoon @hoary lintel same I wish I could a 2nd hand portal for 250$ even £250=300$ approximately would be nice. Hard to find in the uk 🇬🇧 😪
Yeah you may struggle with that here in the UK 🙁 I have an Odin 2 pro going spare but keeping the portal
Ya sucks here. Droix charge some crazy prices too, and if you want to buy any 3d printed cases or grips / buttons, they usually ship from America and charge £20 on delivery alone 😭
That's one of the big reasons I bought a 3d printer, so I could print off cases and grips my self
they really do 😄 and oooh 😄 i might need to buy some 3d things off you, perhaps
Just got a base portal from cex £240
Cex have odins in stock?? Never thought to think of that... Good shout
Should be doable to be honest
Yup they do....I've been keeping an eye and a random portal base popped up and I snagged it...boxed, great condition...not a bad deal. Worth keeping half on eye on what people trade in....
The Retroid Pocket 6 is finally here, and it improves upon its predecessor in many significant ways: better CPU, bigger battery, and an improved AMOLED display. Here are my first impressions of this new mid-range handheld.

This was a rev...
If only they retain the original design 😭
He says just right, but the dpad in that thumbnail is clearly in the wrong location
Might be on to something
Silver looks a little cheap, I think it's missing that clearcoat that PSP had (and extra glitter) to give it that lacquer shine. They also should have kept the finish of the D-pad, analog and abxy bays the same as the face.
I wanted the silver but when Russ turned it over I was moderately disappointed. The mystic silver psp is a more muted and matte silver with the sparkle, like good car paint.
So what now, I have a Pocket Air mini coming (because Ayaneo didn’t cancel the preorder) but I want this device. Can’t really afford both of them 🙁
Nothing more to do than to keep the Pocket Air Mini then.
they fill different uses and niche cases i guess, but depends which you feel is a better deal
Sell the PAM
it’s still a great device and there’s people that would want it
Honestly, the more of Ayaneo I get to see, the more I hate them. Won't cancel an order, yet take months to ship pre-orders while prioritising dropshippers?
What payment processor did you use? Can't you call them and force them to cancel?
Yea I want the RP6, it’s a better deal and fits my PSP and PS2 needs more.
Hopefully I can sell it without a loss.
Ya especially considering how bad shipping is
Yea it’s kinda weird. I’m not hating on them but yea..
Have you unlocked market place in this server?
PayPal. But I don’t think I can do much because theyre actually doing their job. At least somewhat.
I haven’t heard of them since and I’ve written them again this morning, maybe I can send it back to them (without me having to pay for shipping)
Yea I think, at least I can look through it, but most people are from USA from what I can see. But yea let’s see.
Where abouts are you?
Germany, there are already some listings on “eBay”, but I guess I need to wait for it to arrive, before I can do anything. Kind of annoying but that’s what you get for FOMOing.
Ya I was gonna suggest eBay, I’m in Canada and sold my ps vita pretty quickly through there to a user in the states
It is what it is, part of the hobby unfortunately
Yea have to learn from it, now I have to wait until march for the RP6 to deliver 😭
Or better: to ship, who knows when it will arrive.
I’m in the same boat with a lot of travelling coming up. REALLY trying hard not to buy a handheld and just wait for my rp6
Might just bust out the switch lite and play Mario for the millionth time
Sounds like a plan 😄
I just hope it arrives before I move, so that I have sth to do on my commute to work everyday.
wanting to sell a device before it even arrives is next level in this hobby
Like I said, I wanted to cancel actually, not sell.
I know it’s a joke but just to be clear.
And as if scalpers wouldn’t act differently actually. Don’t know what you’re on.
all good @rain peak I'm just messing around
Np maybe I feel a little bit “caught” lol
I've dealt with something like this with board games, and in my case, paypal gave me the refund, but then the company must have whined at them because they then asked to give it back. This after six months of them not shipping my order and only doing so after I got the refund from paypal. I decided to not get into issues with PayPal and gave them their refund back, while making public bad reviews about the company and never using them again.
I am in Europe as well. My advice, take this and everything else about ayaneo to heart the next time you're tempted by something from them.
Damn sounds actually like a horrible experience.
Yea I will avoid them in the future or only order what is actually in stock
Nah, original button layout wasn't ideal. I have smallish hands and when using abxy my finger would move the right analog and get in the way. I would have to remove the stick completely sosmtimes
I was between the rp6 and the fit
I actually ordered the fit but cancelled due to tarrif and shipping timing
I got a rp4 right now and hoping the 6 is on Amazon before toooo long
Glad they are letting the people decide if they want the inferior top dpad layout or superior bottom dpad layout 🙂
I agree, psx layout 4 life
I couldn't care less where analog and dpad is on a full sized controller, but I do on a small device
I mean. I'm old enough to have gone through the Atari to nes-snes and psx controller to dual sense trabsition
I just prefer it lower
Yes same, it really doesn't matter on a full size controller for me. Xbox psx, works about the same
I can use top joystick but I despise it
I despise hand cramps and top stick makes more sense on an actual handheld for modern games, but maybe that's just me (and russ according to his video)
I will say this setting up the game bezel project on the rp4 will never let me ignore it again
It just feels weird to me. Like every time I use my sister's switch pro controller it just feels off
I'm too used to the PS layout
I have horrid carpal tunnel I have been fighting for 23+ years. So I know what's comfy and I just get a grip to go with it
And that's exactly why I said I'm glad they us the option to decide ourselves
Switch isn't the best comparison though, similar layout but buttons are shite
I got a satisfye grip for my switch made a world of difference
On a full size controller, ps5 is probably best. On a handheld, I want top stick. So I guess I'm in both camps
Whatever works
I think the issue is that on most handhelds, we do not get Playstation/Dualshock layout. What we get is stick bottom on devices like the RP5 instead of stick middle which is what the Dualshock layout actually is.
That's why I rely on grips to add the comfortable distance
When you have big grip on a controller like a ps5 pad, both layouts work, with perhaps the top dpad winning on overall comfort. When grips and big handles are missing like on an rp5, I feel the opposite is true
I think the control layout was one of the many reasons the Vita failed so hard. They advertised it as a way to play modern games but on a handheld (like the PSP was to its time) but neglected to notice that the analog sticks were in an unusable position without a third party grip - and they forgot about L2/R2 entirely.
there's always more trafic after a russ video
you don't say
Such slander.
Yeah putting the dpad on top is such a terrible idea. Good thing there’s no modern console with that layout
yup, I was looking for feedback after RP6 and Fit launched
It’s not about where the dpad is … it’s about where the sticks are.
Have you tried playing something like Borderlands 2 on a Vita without a grip?
Yeah I’ve played it for almost a hundred hours
Either stick games are gonna suck or dpad games are gonna suck
Look at the switch lite
And your hands weren’t screaming after that? Seriously - the game is damn near unplayable (performance issues aside) without a grip - both to add proper L2/R2 and to make the sticks be in a natural position for when you are holding the device.
I mean yeah my hands cramped
I guess what I’m saying is controls have very little bearing on how successful a system is. It’s much more about the game catalog. PSP was hand cramp city for anything using the slider and switch 1 was an ergonomic nightmare coming right off the heels of the Wii U. Both were incredibly successful
I've played through shovel knight treasure trove on my n3dsxl with the dpad on the bottom
it's fine
my hands never cramped
but I also don't usually play for more than 2-3 hours at a time
Where's the dual top sticks layout? That's what I want to see. Wii U and Steam deck did it right imo
PSP and Switch were successful because they are PSP and Switch - you just had to deal with the discomfort if you wanted in on the IPs. But in 2025, with many retrohandhelds being able to cover anything up to Switch and PS3 - there is little tolerance for ergonomic or design fuckery. We can just demand what we prefer and be catered to, or seek another maker. We don't need to suffer through things like that anymore.
Read the whole conversation dawg
I was talking about the vita not retro handhelds as a whole
I sometimes flip my rp5 upside down to see how that feels honestly seems really comfortable even without a grip
Now that's really depressing
TRY IT!
Flip 3 can't come soon enough
I don't think they'll make it with the Thor being a million times more popular than the flip 2
Gib single screen 16:9 clamshell
Thor stinky
I'm sure there'll be an audience for a single screen 16:9 clamshell because I have zero interest in the thor or having dual screens
Same but in my case it's because I already have the two dual screen devices
silver with an indigo grip would be my pick if I were getting one
or wait there is no indigo grip this time 🙁
looks so nice
The heck lol. Dude is me looking at my kitchen pantry after an edible

This will be able to run some sort of LinuxOS, right?
1st batch pre-orders on the 15th:
Maybe; depends on if those who worked on Odin 2 Linux ROMs can port to RP6?
(Do those even exist?)
Good to know my meme is still making the rounds 😆
I thought rocknix was an option? TBH I’m not too familiar with, was just curious because I heard that some emulators run better on Linux.
Not yet but it will be once the handheld is out
Rocknix is cool for Xbox but i don't want to sacrifice Switch emulation 😅
I'm kinda hoping someone figures out how to do Proton and FEX on these handhelds, heh
Provided, you can already use something like GameHub or GameNative on its standard Android, but still
The rp5 was able to dualboot, right? Would hope it would be the same here to have the best of both worlds
It could do it very well , this one won't be different
Since it's more powerful i am really curious to see how Halo performs on it
I thought gamenative used fex
True; I mean seeing FEX on Linux
What's game native? An alternative Gamehub?
Nice I’m curious as well
both GameHub and GameNative do Proton and FEX
And another question: is the 8Gen2 strong enough for PS3 emulation? I know it’s just the beginning for PS3 emulation on ARM, but I’m hoping it’s strong enough, once it reaches a certain… compatibility point.
I know the Elite would’ve been better, but I’m just curious if performance would be good enough.
It's hard to say at this point in time.
From my understanding though, the PS3 is technically around the same power/performance as the Switch 1
So I think theoretically, 8gen2 could run PS3 really well if emulators improve
Okay that’s at least sth. Hope the 12GB RAM will help also. TBH ps3 emulation is the reason I was considering the Odin 3.
for some, perhaps. Though as Joel said the emulator needs to be a bit more mature 🙂
with the Elite you'll be able to emulate anything that the emulator can boot, whereas with the 8gen2 you'll be limited to light/mid weight titles
At least that’s sth but maan the Odin 3 has too many problems (in my eyes). But I guess with the RP6 I will have enough games to play for ‘now’.
idk I don't feel like the "problems" the Odin 3 has are deal breakers
for me the problems have been very very minor, I would not buy an RP6 over it if money is no object
I just don’t see the added beef being worth the added fan noise, poor openGL support, and worse screen compared to the odin 2 portal
I've been having a lot of fun running steam indies and mid weight games full speed with the fan set to quiet even, but ymmv depending on what you play
Ah yeah if you’re using it for modern steam games instead of retro I could see the appeal over s8g2
Personally I don’t think gamehub/winlator stuff is where I’d need it to be to replace an ally X or steam deck for my own purposes
Part of the reason I got the RP6 over the O3, on top of the O3 just being way out of my budget
I could see myself potentially getting an O4 or O5 later down the road if SteamOS ARM or Gamehub are in really good states by then
But honestly, 8gen2 is more than good enough for my needs
tha is fair, the gen 8 elite is a 'in progress' rather than the overall excellent compatibility of 8 gen 2 😄 insane potential for the Odin 3 which is very exciting but prob more a tinkering device for most people
I mean, they are for me but I say it’s a lovely device otherwise and if I wouldn’t already have a Steam Deck, the Elite would be higher up in my priority list. I can wait it out I think plus the specs I’d want would be 450$. For this money I expect a device without bigger flaws.
But that’s my take on it, and I understand your POV.
that's fair, it doesn't replace an x86 handheld for me either, but it's cool to have something more lightweight than a full blown pc handheld that can do this stuff
Not even close
I still can't justify replacing my rp5 with anything available today, other than something like a ally x / steam deck
Windows emulation/translation will have to get astronomically better for me to really feel a need to upgrade from my Odin 2 Mini.
Granted, it being a smaller indie machine alternative to my Steam Deck is neat, I still end up playing most of them on the Deck anyway.
My gripe with current handheld PCs is the size and weight. I’ve gone through half a dozen different handheld PCs and eventually fell off of all of them because they’re either too big and heavy, or the battery life sucks doo doo. I’ve mostly settled on just streaming and cloud gaming but any little bit of pc emulation on Android for when I’m away from stable network is a plus in my book
Fair, I do think the Steam Deck is a bit too big for my preferences as I've gotten older. I still love the stupid thing, handheld PC games is a pretty big game changer for me.
I think if the compatibility was just a bit better for the games I've messed with, I'd be so much more down for it.
And all the high end stuff being glass front only kinda makes me not wanna get an 8 Elite handheld anyway
I think I'm good waiting for an Odin 4 or Retroid Pocket 7 before I even consider updating.
I have a retroid pocket 4 and hopefully the 6 will be a nice upgrade. I'm not buying until it's on amazon, especially with the trade war making pricing out the gate confusing as everything.
I nearly ordered the pocket fit but I luckily cancelled last minute before the timer expired
Nothing really confusing about the pricing atm. Waiting to buy it even further marked up than anywhere else on amazon is what's more confusing, but do your thing

My RP6 review unit has shipped, so that's me in the next week... 😅
It will be as odin 2 8 gen 2 got rocknix so it will be easier to port for rp6.
@night apex awesome 👌 hopefully mine will be shipped soon
Thanks man 😇
For me Ally X was the perfect sized handheld with good battery. Its smaller than the Deck while having better batteru than a Deck. They packed in a 80wh battery in a smaller form factor compared to Legion Go and Deck. Even the new Xbox Ally X is larger and heavier.
Ive tried Deck and Deck OLED before Ally X and I just couldn't get over how huge they were. And I also had the original Ally but the battery was garbage on that.
did retroid send rocknix dev units?
So in dire anticipation for the RP6, sadly I have to wait till march, because I chickened out and cancelled my preorder batch 1: what can I do while waiting for it, like how should I set up my sd-card? Is it as easy as formatting it to exFat(?) and just put folders with game files on it?
What program would you recommend to compress my backed up game files?
Or any information on where I could look into it?
Everything should be straightforward and quite easy.
You can format the MicroSD card to exFAT using your PC, and you can just load up your games and emulator files onto it while you wait for your unit to ship in March.
Okay nice. Thank you.
I’m new to android handhelds, but I’m assuming you need the iso files and the emulator software, or can you just download the emulator software off the PlayStore?
Obviously. Retroid knows that having dual boot to rocknix will help their sales.
Is a decent starter guide.
I just checked and see no indication on the rocknix discord that they have received any
It is using 8gen2 which is the same as odin 2. odin 2 and retroid are sister companies. odin 2 already got rocknix so why should rocknix dont explore rp6. even Mangmi air x using s662 chipset is going to have rocknix.
because rocknix is a group of volunteer developers and they don't make business decisions
it is matter of time. But rpg2 will be more difficult for rocknix to do it.
I agreed. Firstly Rp6 will be popular, secondly odin 2 8 gen 2 already got rocknix. Definitely they will one day explore rp6 for rocknix dual boot.
They will only support devices they are sent dev units for
it will be easier I believe.
Why will retroid dont send rp6 to rocknix. they even send to youtuber for review. only joey dont have one.
I have no idea why they didn’t send dev units out with review units but as far as I can tell they didn’t
Yes. Some can be grabbed directly from the PlayStore while some can be sideloaded from GitHub or other sources.
As for ISOs, well, it's up to you on how to source those.
Surely 2nd hand market
I heard there are ISOs on the internet
So did they not ship first batch yet?
NoWaying
One of the former German presidents once said: the internet is unknown territory for all of us.
*ship the day before CNY
*Logistics is paused for CNY
CNY starts on the 17th of next month right?
Yeah
So they’ve got a month to “complete all batch 1 shipments”
Until March 3
Gotta say, early bird doesn't feel that worth if batch 1 and 2 will ship that close together
I hope this means there were no issues to fix
this looks really good, what other colors?
Are you asking what colors it comes in? They're all visible on the site
42 characters for his question vs 13 for "goretroid.com". You'd think if ppl were just lazy they'd wanna do less work.
I think wouldn't want to be in that first batch. It sounds like after Tuesday the interns will have learnt how to assemble RP6s.
Yeah, really hoping my orange with dpad top is one of the last ones.
If nothing else, it will give me time to convert my game collection to chd.
Glad I'm in the second batch.
Oh yeah, for people who have ordered from Retroid before, I'm curious, is Customer Support the only way to get the shipping address changed?
I made a thread already asking for a change as I didn't see any way to do that on the order itself or the website
Just contact customer support, they should be able to do it
Ok, so I already did the right thing then before I even asked. Thanks!
Just wasn’t sure if I missed it on the website or what
Black with Stick top being shipped in first batch? Woooo
Which games need to be converted to chd?
Psx, Dreamcast, ps2 as well I think
Not needed, just saves space
all the CD based systems
In my case, only my PS2 collection is left, since I already converted PS1/PSP/Dreamcast games for my Cube XX.
I also need to convert my wii games to RVZ
Huh, and gamecube too
Cool thanks! I have quite a few ps2 games and I’ll be getting some Wii and GameCube too. I have all the others on my vita!
So I got time, let the retroid interns mess around with the black models before getting to the orange ones.
Definitely convert, I saved so much space with PS1 and PSP games alone.
In the time of rising memory costs, all the more important. It takes a while, but it's not hard and totally worth it.
Update: to my surprise, they got back to me within a day, and updated it for me!
Even showed me an image of the shipping address updated in so Ik they did do it.
Very pleased with the fast and great service
I got a tracking number!
Oddly it says second batch. I wonder if review units were considered first batch
My RP6 (Silver) review unit just arrived! (unboxing video on my YouTube channel tomorrow) 🥳
What color u got? And when did u place order? Seem like name title rn got mixed up. Some people preorder on the first day title also said second batch
So, since I'm going back and forth between the RP6 and the Odin 3 I just had to get it straight. Results were somewhat even so now I know why it was so hard to decide haha. But now I know what I want
Purple and silver. Ordered within minutes of it going live
RP6 ended up being the right choice for me with its pricing, and it playing the games I want to play perfectly fine
yeah the rp6 looks a solid pick
Yea me too, the price is really a big difference but I the waiting time makes this so frustrating lol
It’s my first retro handheld and I really want sth in my hands like now. But alas I’m just impatient
Tell me your German without telling me your German
No doubt why german got top tier engineering stuff, even just decision making to purchase rp6 have to do all these lol
Hahaha it probably has more to do with the fact that I’ve been studying for months for one single exam and I needed to do sth different. Now with a calm piece of mind I can focus on studying again
So we know if any of the colors have the textured grip on back?
In the mean time, just polish your curated ROMs collection !
I would but I get a bit confused. Is chd multi disc format? The thing is, I have all my psp and ps1 games backed up as .pbp to play it sometimes on my psp. Is that bad? Should I back them up again and convert it to chd? What program? Can I get chd with .bin and .cue files?
You see? Many questions.
From what I understand, CHD compresses a bit better than pbp, but can't "fuse" multi-disc games into one file.
Really I'd say don't bother recompressing them unless you're really squeezed for space on your storage.
And I'm pretty sure Toku more meant curate it in the sense of actually putting games you'd actually play or at least wanna play on your device, as opposed to the weirdos that put as many games as they can grab as possible onto them.
thumbstick top or bottom? i've played xbox my entire life, thinking about top stick. thoughts?
Top, the games you’d want this device for use stick pretty regularly, so I’d say it’s more comfortable, but you do you.
But jokes aside, I feel like I have a good mix, but just not compressed yet.
CHD needs m3u playlist text files to sequence. I don’t know about PBP and have everything in CHD. There are many tutorials out there to get a ready SD card with ROMs and BIOSes at device arrival, and enjoy day 1.
Sounds annoying. Pbp is just one file and is also compressed, even though it’s lossy.
Another question: you guys think it’s worth to get the screen protector and a bag? Or should I get that through Aliexpress and Etsy?
The RP6 is simply gorgeous! (unboxing video on my YouTube channel today) 🥰
If you're used to an Xbox controller, stick on top. If you were a playstation guy instead, then on bottom. As simple as that.
Srs, as someone who grew up with playstation outside of Nintendo handhelds, the stick on top is never more comfortable for me, regardless of the game I'm playing. It's why the fact that only retroid offers this option at this power range and with this chip leaves me pretty much no choice but to get the RP6.
Get the screen protector at least, because according to Russ, that all glass front not only loves fingerprints, but they are much harder to clean than usual.
Just ask any IA to write a python script for you so you can automatise the process, if you can’t write a script yourself.
And beware : you are buying an Android device. That is VEERY far from a plug and play experience. If you think that this is annoying, I would advise not to buy Android at all, due to the long process of setting things up properly.
If James Bond had a handheld, it would definitely be the Silver RP6! Here is my unboxing video: 🩶 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D3f9SRJkpCo
In this video, I'm doing quick unboxing/first impressions of my silver Retroid Pocket 6 that was sent to me by Retroid as a review unit. Huge thanks to Retroid as I really feel privileged to be a brand ambassador for Retroid! Please note that this is not a sponsored video, which means all the opinions in the video are my own, no money was exchan...
That's the script I use BTW. Place it in a floder with ROMs and double click (Pyhton needs to be installed, though). The script first asks for a prefix. I'm used to put .MULTI\ here, as I move my multidisk files to at .MULTI\ folder after creating the .m3u, so only one file per game remains in the main folder.
Does your unit turn on ? 😉
Ah yes I remember, good idea, I’ll message them.
Good idea, good opportunity to learn sth new.
The annoying part was specifically on the m3u part, cause I had problems with that in the past.
James bond does have a handheld. It just has only one control.
James Bond is a gamer confirmed.
Yes 😎
If you already have your PS1 games as PBP, leave them that way. The savings you get in file size (PBP is already compressed) is not worth the hassle of conversion and the annoyance of having multiple files for multi-disc games.
I made the decision to cancel my rp6 order 😭 ordering like $1k worth of baby stuff and can’t be spending $350cad on a toy
I took my sold vita money and bought a PAM, and have some cash left over
I’ll join you all when the rp7 comes out 🥺
I... I would have kept the Vita 😅
A lot of folks have told me the same thing lol, I had it for just over a year and man it’s a great device but not for me
I don’t play jrpgs, and the selection of psp and ps1 games it has, I’d rather play upscaled
I have a trimui brick for gba, the pam is supposed to replace both my vita and brick
Oh ya, and the vita was fucking expensive
I bought it for $350CAD, sold for same amount but that’s the same price as an rp6
The Vita?
yeah, in relative terms; it's inferior to a Retroid or any other modern handheld, but you can do a fair amount of retro on it
Its kinda alright
But in terms of handhelds from the big companies the 3DS has it beat when it comes to emulation imo
Vita is great for vita and psp. I’m not sure I’d use it for anything else with what exists now (even for $30-50). If it was your only handheld and you couldn’t afford anything else, then it might be worth it to explore the emulation side of it. But in my experience it just adds to the analysis paralysis of what to play next.
I love my vita, but I’m not using it for anything other than Wipeout 2048, jrpgs, and as a buffed up OLED psp.
GBA is pretty alright on the vita though I suppose if you really want to get into it, but you’d really have to be into tinkering to do more. And I agree with @proud fossil that if you’re going to buy a vita for anything other than vita games, you’re better off just getting something with more power because they’re so expensive right now.
I’m not sure how capable the PAM is for emulating vita though, but if you’re just doing psp and ps1 then you’ll be happy with it @proud fossil
Ya no plan to use it for vita emulation, mainly ps1
The pam is kinda ass for psp, the mangmi is better for psp bc of the aspect ratio
I see the Pam as everything retro to ps1, and when/if I get a Retroid product, it’ll be for everything psp and newer
This is the way
Can anyone confirm or deny if hype stix will fit on the rp6?
I thought RGC said specifically that they will
I have a significant collection of them so I would really like to use them on the rp6. I’m planning on getting one later this year. I considered the odin 3 but the lack of hype stix compatibility was a bit of a breaking point.
I think from Japan you can get them for like $225, mine was modded and I think that had a lot of interest
I had 2 guys from eBay and one guy from kijiji interested, even after it sold one of the eBay guys offered more
But ya going price is from Japan is $200ish cad for a 2000 model but they vary in quality. I bought mine last aug from Japan in 10/10 condition for like $325ish cad
I got mine back in 2024 for about 200 bucks
But that was cuz back then I was a dumbass and got it off Amazon
second hand they went for $130-140 a couple years ago when I got mine
but most second hand ones have the front glass scratched to hell unfortunately
I ended up biting the bullet and buying a ridiculously overpriced sealed vita
Curious to know how much that set you back?
aspect ratio and upscaling
psp looks muddy on Vita
Ya it ran at x1
Totally playable though but some games did have issues
My save for ace combat got corrupted and even would only work with no sound😭
This is pretty neat, thanks
To be honest, I wouldn't get into this hobby beyond a budget anbernic device if one doesn't expect to tinker with it.
But there are pretty good guides and it is good to be able to do this stuff, so don't let that scare anyone off
want to buy my Vita for $499, not sealed
tempting but I think I'll have to pass 😂
Just updated my Retroid family 🥰
looking at this showed me how good looking the RP2S was
Retroid could do an updated version of it
RP Mini doesn't count for me as it didn't have a true 4:3 screen
Actually insane that there is no other video besides RGC’s that shows the device with the screen on plus being a decent showcase of the device and its performance.
this is a post I've made a year ago when we didn't have high resolution 4:3 screens yet, just ignore the resolution
how 1 year can change the landscape of the handheld scene
I was speculating what the next rp2s would be but I guess we never got one
at this point retroid has to become aware that people will do anything for a true 4:3 high res device
if someone can make an OLED 4:3 screen they will score big
the retro look of the RP2S really irks me even me about the RP6 now that the original design is gone
hopefully they'll use that design in the RP7
retroid should try to make 4.2 inch amoled 120hz screen with 1280x960p resolution, it hits 2 birds with one stone since that's exactly the size of the 3dsxl's bottom screen size aswell meaning it would not only be perfect for a true 4:3 handheld but also a thor successor
no more polls
with their influence and recognition at this point they could try
Would be a odd size/resolution if you want to find a matching screen for the top
Like 5.1/5.2" 16:9 960p
There is, just not in English.
I mean the Chinese video was also not the best. The AI voiceover was even worse. I don’t know, I feel like the videos don’t do the device justice
If it’s ain’t coming film our lord and saviour, Russ, I’m not interested
Although I will also watch techdweebs videos
There's a spanish one too, and it seems quite thorough.

Damn didn’t see that
But I don’t speak Spanish
Well shouldn’t be too long anymore
Has any reviewers gotten a dpad top unit?
So far from what we've seen, no. Which is dumb, the one unique thing over other devices with this chip set, that 40% of people prefer, but nah, screw you.
Also, for those who don't speak spanish, at 23:50, he starts showing of the PWM Flicker. I'm personally not very sensitive to it, but for those who are, it doesn't look to be good. The reviewer says he had a good experience, but he himself is not sensitive to it either.
It would make more sense for them to focus on showcasing the newest feature and big selling point that was added to this generation. It may not be new for the chipset but it is new for them. Every company in the world does this, show off what's new.
The smarter thing would be showing off that the device is customizable, something no other device is. It's just like showing off different colours. But I'm not arguing that you aren't right, because you are, just that companies are frustratingly dumb.
Welp
I agree showing the flexibility would be best, but hard to do that outside of the reviewer themselves mentioning out loud "hey btw this can be bought in a different format!" , cuz it can't be shown visually with one unit you know
Gotta wait for Wulff Den to get it in like 3 months for his review
Cuz if he did buy it he most likely got the dpad top version
Wonder if this is because none of the reviewers so far wanted one with the dpad on top. Which I guess makes sense in that it's not going to do d-pad focused systems much better than the RP5 they already have.
I mean I'm just hoping some reviewer gets the dpad top version. Just to give me something to chew on
reviewers don't usually get a say in what they get sent to review
most likely it's just Retroid that decided to ship review units with stick top
what do you want to hear about the dpad top version that you can't infer off the stick top version?
Probably how the ergos are on those bottom sticks
Retroid did some changes to those bumps on the back iirc
do you really need someone to tell you the ergos are going to be bad
no amount of bump changes are going to compensate for stick bottom that isn't inset
it will require a grip the same way the RP5 required a grip
Watch an RP5 review. 🙃
Do you have any evidence that 40% of people prefer that layout? I could be wrong but I don't think there's enough data to say that.
Retroid's twitter poll when they asked users about it, just before they decided to offer both options.
I really wonder how bad the preorder numbers were for the RP6 that Retroid panicked and started offering stick top.
I don't think it was that, people didn't like the original design
Which is unfortunate since the OG design mogs what we got instead.
