What AyaNeo really needs is a good middle ground handheld that doesn't break everyones wallet , something with like the SD G2 Gen 2 and the DMG screen , or even better just drop the G2 Gen 2 in the Ace for a more varied more affordable lineup .
Not everyone wants to blow $300-$400 on every new handheld

admittedly the flip DS is REALLY cool but i can't use that to justify recommending it to anyone lol

it has a really phenomenal hold of its charge when turned off for long periods for some reason,
even now it has 70% battery when i turned it back on after a really long time

IIRC it's an Android thing, and the addon is designed for devices of certain screen sizes (being able to clamp on to)

since the Ace has USB port at the bottom, should be doable since it's similar size to the RP Mini

Can definitely say that this thing is legit among my favorite handhelds now. It’s really freaking surprised me in comparison to what I normally expect out of AYANEO.

Even the issues I have noticed have been pretty much solely software related, and AYANEO, despite what they’re usually like, is among the better companies in terms of working on consistent software updates for the sake of fixing issues.

Cause it’s baffling just how much better their Android stuff has been compared to the tech they had been working on for way longer.

Pro: Slightly Smaller and lighter than the Odin 2 Mini, with a screen that makes retro stuff look nicer (at the cost of not being as great for 16:9 stuff, but “not as great” doesn’t mean “not good” since I still find widescreen stuff enjoyable on here).

Pro: G3X Gen 2 is surprisingly less glitchy in rendering games than I expected (but this is likely due to them having 3 different handhelds S/DMG/Evo worth of experience in messing with the GPU driver before this device), so it’s literally just overall the Odin 2 Mini without MiniLED (which is a massive pro for me since my eyes fucking hated the O2 Mini’s screen no matter how much I loved everything else).

Con: The Controls do have bugs, like the aforementioned issue with the rumble messing with control inputs.

Con: The face buttons themselves are really “clacky” in a similar manner to the Retroid Pocket Mini, and I’d even say they’re a good bit more louder in those clacks. This is more a con for others since I’m genuinely fine with them, so I mainly just wanted to mention this for people who are bothered by the buttons on the RPMini.

Pro: The Software legit seems to be for the most part better than it was on the Pocket Micro and especially way better than it was on the Pocket Air when that first released (once again, this is pretty likely just the obvious results of them continuing to work on the software).

Pro: With the right GPU Drivers, this thing works shockingly well in running winlator games in particular, helped by the fact that the Turnip Driver dev also really likes using the Pocket S and actively works on helping support the G3X Gen 2 because of it (where before I learned about that, I thought Winlator would have the worst time in running games compared to other emulators).

Con: The screen is 1620x1080, so no matter what you do, you’ll pretty much never get integer scaling for anything but the select few games that manage to have integer scaling for 1080p while also being 3:2 or narrower, since integer scaled 1920x1080 obviously isn’t gonna work on here. I’m fine with that since I already just go for slapping on Sharp-Shimmerless to non-integer scaling anyways, but this is something to note for anyone that would have that as a deal-breaker.

Con: There’s still some bugs in Vulkan for the GPU driver that do affect some emulators that don’t support alternative GPU drivers, such as SameBoy being significantly more demanding for performance with Vulkan than it is in OpenGL (this is something that seems to occur with other random chipsets as well, but it’s at its worst on the G3X Gen 2). So this would need to be worked out on AYANEO’s end for the system default drivers.

Personal opinion: This thing is literally exactly what I liked out of the Odin 2 Mini in terms of being a high-powered Android handheld that is still really freaking portable, and the fact it uses an IPS screen instead of MiniLED is a massive pro for me personally, since my eyes just do not like MiniLED for whatever reason. So even the cons don’t really change much of how I feel about this thing even if I would definitely agree to the cons being important things to consider for anyone else.

Nope, and that’s the exact reason why I was wondering if they legit did encounter issues related to copyright (that they may or may not have somehow bypassed for the Flip 1S and that potential Android Flip), since I can’t really even think of any other reasons for that happening (there wasn’t any reported hardware issues that were bad enough to warrant a temporary discontinuation “till they could fix it and release it as the 1S”, and they’re still selling Micro and Micro Classic units, which was made after the Flip, so it’s not like it was a screen availability limitation).

Starting work on the teardown video. Looks like they did what they recommended to fix the Evo’s thermals on the Ace, which is to use thermal pads and also apply thermal paste on top. Also you HAVE to remove the battery before you can remove the left speaker and access the d-pad, which is frustrating

Nah, even then it’s only half-and-half at best. The Retroid and Ayn tactile D-Pads are outright my favorite D-Pads in any of these handhelds, but the face buttons are a good bit more varied in quality and feel depending on the handheld (and admittedly it’s likely I’m just biased against how I’d prefer both the Face Buttons and D-Pad use the same tactile controls).

So I’d actually argue the Helegaly Action Pi has the best D-Pad/Face Button combo among these handhelds imo (due to its face buttons legit feeling just as good as Anbernic’s better examples on top of its D-Pad being an actually pretty good tactile D-Pad), and I really do not know how to feel about this statement.

I don't think it's weird for PSP, it sits at about 4.3 inches (a very tiny tiny amount more), It's actually unnoticeably slightly bigger than the original PSP in terms of showing 16:9 content

I did wanna ask if anybody knows, what's the ideal turnip drivers here? I actually had more frame drops trying some with ps3 games

switch it seems like it worked fine, i got stable 60fps anyway

LC being task manager is great, RC as back is good but only works in every other emulator except RA for some reason, when most handhelds with a back allow it to be bound

And then trying to turn the others into keyboard binds they get detected as "virtual" not the main device so they dont work in hotkeys area

Sort of yes, but one thing to keep in mind is that drivers that are meant for the SD8Gen2’s GPU are, for the most part, drop-in for the G3X Gen 2 since it’s custom driver is really just a customized version of the Adreno 740 that can be more easily overclocked.

So the T21 Purple Drivers in general will work with the G3X Gen 2 alongside any other drivers meant for Adreno 7xx, and the AYANEO version specifically is designed with the small differences in mind, so they should work better for the most part (not all the time though, so be open to trying out other drivers made for the A740).

i changed LC to be "key code: 'Clear'" and then changed the MODE (4 squares next to the turbo button) to be Task Manager instead

Clear binds to retroarch as "numpad 2" for whatever reason despite me trying to set keyboard keys not working earlier

so it's a lot more comfortable as a RA menu binding button than the mode's placement
