4 inch 4:3 would be perfect for me and really capitalize on the 2S's power. It can play games you'd never think it could like Doom 3 and Morrowind, but with the 3.5 inch screen it's just barely worth it.

I've got one 4gb and one 3gb model. Could it be, that there is a ps2 performance difference between the 3gb and 4gb model? Or might the difference in performance come from internal storage vs sd card?

I don’t use my RP2S as much anymore since I got my RP4P. My MagicX Zero Mini 28 pretty fill filled my gap for a small travel handheld even if it’s not as powerful as the RP2S.

hey so i just got one of these second hand and is there a way to PERMANENTLY change the screen saturation? i know you can change it with a script but it goes away after a restart. the screen (at least the one i got) is really really bad with its reds to the point it makes them look pink. changing the screen saturation to be lower looks a lot better but its annoying to always have to apply the script again. anyone know of any solutions? it’s so so close to being a perfect handheld

Imo changing the saturation is kind of gross. If you play like sonic for instance he quickly starts becoming purple lol

iirc in later android versions there's screen calibration baked in to the system settings, unfortunately that's not relevant to RP2S. if you're technical, maybe you can root the device and have that script run at boot or something, but rooting may present its own set of issues and retroid does not provide a recovery image for RP2S in case something goes really wrong.

if you're using it once every couple of days I'd still just recommend putting it to sleep instead. if it's getting used once a week then imo I'd just deal with running the script once a week

To be fair - it is objectively over-saturated. The screen is perfectly fine - it's an (intentional) software issue. A 1.3x saturation boost is applied via a script file run on boot. It's in the system partition so there's no way to stop it being applied (short of rooting, which afaik still can't be done on the 2S)

The issue with it is that colours near the top-end of the saturation spectrum get crushed together, resulting in a loss of colour depth. It's my single biggest pet peeve with the device (Not 100% on this but I believe Retroid is doing the same as standard on all of their devices now)

You can fix it temporarily by running this script as root in the handheld settings, but it'll be overwritten after a restart

If you wanna see an example where this colour-crushing manifests, check out Knuckles' sprite in Sonic & Knuckles. The highlights and mid-tones on the sprite are differentiated by their saturation, but with the saturation boost, the two tones get crushed together and lose their contrast

I got the 4gb version, is there anyway to make GC games run better? Right now they are not that great, overall I have to say the handheld is quite dissapointing, not worth the hype, gets hot really easy as well

On a similar note, while I appreciate the “perfect blacks” on an OLED (I have I think 3 OLED screens?), I do think that IPS LCDs can also pop with great color (and brightness, of course), and I think sometimes the superiority of OLED is overblown.

I’m actually having an issue getting all my front-ends to work on my RP2S. The Retroid launcher is working great with Dreamcast, but for some reason adding the location of Genesis/SNES ROMs and telling it to scan isn’t working. I have Dig on here, and maybe TechDweeb likes the crunchy pixel look that reminds me of DOS (I know he loves DOS), and that seems to work with other systems but it’s an artless menu and kind of uninspiring to scroll through. First world problems.

Had mine drain completely while off twice, very upsetting to have to charge it through bootlooping. Wonder if shutting it down with virtual mouse was to blame as I haven't had it happen since.

From what I understand the GC version has more since it has episode 1 and 2 while the Dreamcast only has 1. The PC only Blue Burst has 1, 2 and 4. I’m still very new to the PSO games so I don’t know much

Regardless. the GC and DC versions run pretty well on the RP2S so far.

And they all have private servers. If you wanna play with a larger community it’ll have to be PC only

Feels like DC versions would run better on RP2S hardware; I’ve had good luck with other DC games.

DC (Dreamcast) had Phantasy Star Online Vol 1 and PSOv2. They had different levels. From what I can tell, the GC version combined the levels from Vol. 1 & 2 together, but I don’t know if they added anything new.

I love this handheld so much. It's a shame I never really play it. I have only ever played one game through on it, then got an RP4pro and classic, so I just don't see a use case for the RP2S.... still pick it up to look at it every now and then 😂. Gorgeous piece of tech .

Anyone in here has dungeon siege throne of agony for the psp. if so what is your fps and settings for that game. I seen a video someone playing it on the first RP2, and they was getting 56/60 fps. for some reason no matter what power setting or gfx settings I do. I can't get it past 30/32 fps ingame on the RP2S. just wondering what I'm doing wrong? you would think RP2S would play it better than the RP2.

Yesterday I was playing on my RP2S and whilst playing it suddenly switched itself off. Now it's not booting up or charging anymore. Can somebody help me?

When connected to a charger the retroid logo appears then the device switches off again and the boot logo comes up again, and switches off again, stuck in an endless loop

Is your battery low? I would recommend slow charging for a while if it is. It’ll keep doing that for like 20 minutes until it has enough charge.

tbh, the T820 in the RG406H is just that bit more performance I would have wished for in the RP2S and the half an inch bigger screen is a huge deal.

I don't know, I have barely touched my RP5 since I got it. It's a nice and slick handheld and the chip set can take a punch, but if I can run the game on the RG406H, I rather play it on there. And for game streaming I usually use my Zotac Zone.

The sticks are really good, they are the same Hal Effect Sticks as on other modern devices. PS2/GC Performance is very limited (use PAL roms and try some easy to emulate games), price to performance will be better if you get a RG406H at a good price, I heard they recently went for around $100. The RP2S is definitely more pocketable and portable then the other devices.

The Unisoc T820 in the RG406H whilst not being able to emulate everything perfectly, runs circles around the Unisoc T610 in the RP2S.

Also the Aya Neo Pocket Air Mini will have better performance and is around the same price with shipping.

I would rather go for a RG406H or an Aya Neo Pocket Air Mini. Bearing in mind, that both devices are bigger with 4 inch and 4.2 inch screens and have more of an ergonomic body, thus are much less pocketable.

At the Apple store, we had a steel safe with a big jar of sand overtop. We actually had a phone come in that had been run over or slammed in a door or something, and it started going critical in the repair room. Threw it in the safe, the sand came down, there was smoke and heat and scary sounds for awhile... after all the commotion was over, the sand had fused into dirty glass.

I think the Mangmi Air X is really cool as a PSP emulator, but the RP2S is smaller and more pocketable, and the 4:3 aspect screen is a better fit for home consoles and most arcade games.
