Blast all available mana with umi and red hair girl! (More powerful spells) Then switch to fuuu and use power arrows. If fuu get hurt a bit too much switch to other girls again till there health is low. Switch back to fuu heal group! Repeat!

If you stand by a pillar most of the time the boss can't hit you. Once you are down to one left, its easy to stun lock it with charged Umi attack

Yeah I dunno there's just nothing to it. The dungeons are so often just identical sequences of the same room repeated. Combat is just kind of there. The story is goofy but I'm not really invested.

Maybe a lot of the same stuff could be said about Rayearth but I really dig this game'a style

Anybody else have an issue with the game freezing when you get to the top of the tree of life? I’ve reloaded multiple times and it happens at the same point. Strange thing is if I leave it alone after a while the game will come back and move forward a little bit only to freeze again and repeat. I’m playing with the Beetle Saturn core on an RG556.

Well this may be the first month I don’t complete any games because I can’t progress past the top of the tree of life because it keeps freezing up on me.

Strange, now I can’t even get past the Sega Saturn loading screen into the game. This month is cursed I tell you!

I’m going to try loading a new rom tomorrow to see if that fixes it.

The game is really beautiful and the story is good (at least in my opinion, then again I was already a fan of MKR). The spritework is filled with character and faithfully translates that CLAMP look with beautiful boys and silly little chibis and you even get fmv cutscenes straight from the anime.

The gameplay itself is passable imo, I've never been the biggest fan of this Legend of Zelda-type gameplay but it serves it purpose, although the later game is filled with damage sponges that hit like a semi if you're not careful. The dungeons are mostly forgettable and some spells you get are highly situational. Fuu-cheese is most of the time the most sensible strategy.

The writing, however, is abhorrent. While the story follows the main beats of the original story, the game is filled with more-than-questionable dialogue sexualizing 14 years old girls. Thankfully, these are all random comments while interacting with random objects or passerbys and not required for progression, but if you're going for the rainbow amulets (highly optional) or just try to figure out where to go next without a guide, you're bound to stumble upon some.

This is probably the first time I feel disappointed by a gotm.

• Working designs is not as cool in 2025 as they were in 1999.
• Magic Knight Rayearth is a pretty cool series
• This Game is beautiful. But the gameplay.....Story presentation, etc.....
• Basically, play the GotM, get the point, then go read the manga and question why you ever played this game

This game does not want to run properly on my Odin 2 with Beetle Saturn. It will occasionally make it so that I can't move through dialogue. Yaba Sanshiro 2 seems to run well, but I wish it had fast forwarding. The voice acting makes the dialogue feel like it takes forever

I had the opposite experience. Completed it using Beetle in RA. I had issues with saving in Yaba.

I think Yaba usually is more performant than Beetle? It’s probably a partially corrupted file or configuration issue, RP4 should be plenty powerful.

I used beetle core in RA. My save file did get corrupted once, right at the end. But, I also use save states and backups and such because I'm paranoid like that, so I only lost about 30 minutes of gameplay due to it. Just be careful. I've had more saves get corrupted on Saturn than any other system.

Not really. The only real sidequests are turning over every stone (i.e. checking every item in every house) for rainbow gems and when you complete sets of them you get some items that are 100% optional but offer slight quality of life improvements. Only issue is if you have any issues with the unnecessary sexualization of the trio of gal's/the game in general you'll find a lot more of it by hunting through everything.

Theres also a sidequest with a "scandelous photo of Precia" but she's just like eating dessert or something, and the reward is neglible there too lol.

For some people it’s their favorite retro console. Its strengths seem to be more in Fighters and Shmups though, very much an “arcade at home” console.

I like that there are NOT final fantasy style random battles (easy fights that take forever!) and I DO like that combat seems pretty breezy, the bright art, and the overall light tone of the narration. I’m surprised there is so much voice acting for a game of this time period!

Finishing on time might be hard for me though, so I may just follow a walkthrough to progress efficiently.

Yeah, I’ll usually run through the dungeon with Hikaru at the front, because her wide swing doesn’t need to be aimed when something jumps out at you immediately when you enter a room. Fuu has great range, but it’s a small hitbox and you have to charge up the attack to get the homing arrows.

So I've taken to using save states for this, but for whatever reason Yabause is having issues actually updating the save file and I have no idea what could be causing it

Like if I save and then close the game, I have to use a save state to get back to where I was because the save file apparently didn't update when I saved

Kind of late to be having this issue but oh well. Will just have to use states

...if I load the state and then go to save, now the save files listed in the diary look like I actually saved. argh

I don't think it was handled especially deftly, nor do I think it was set up particularly well, but it was interesting I guess
