Surprised how much power is in the switch 2. It has the cuda core count equivalent to the number of stream processors in an AMD Ai 890m igpu. Much lower clocks and 2 gen old architecture BUUUT, it is more power than I expected Nintendo to use. To be fair, Nintendo essentially used the strongest apu around for the switch 1 with the tegra x1.

Eh, gameplay (when the framerate isn’t tanking particularly hard) is actually pretty snappy and fun, exploration is pretty nice, and the stories themselves are way better than what we’ve been getting on most other Switch Pokemon stuff.

Platinum and HGSS were an improvement in terms of running at the intended framerate, but the actual design of everything in Gen 4 still ran slow as hell even at full speed.

Nah, even in gameplay speed Platinum was better in stuff that seems insignificant on paper but was significant in practice.

As an example, did you know that Surf was made to be at running speed for Gen 3 to counteract the fact that there was a shit ton of water routes? They reverted that for Diamond and Pearl to make it walking speed again, even though Diamond and Pearl do actually still have a good number of water routes (not as many as Gen-3, but a good amount to be noticeable, especially since a lot of optional stuff was only accessible with surf).

They immediately changed it back to running speed for Platinum.

And hell, maybe they can find a way to incorporate the sequels into the remake so that we aren’t stuck with BW1 as the only games getting a remake (since, even with how much I like N, god BW1’s story just sucks when you don’t have BW2 to add extra context to that whole situation).

Hell, the literal reason I like N is because of context added by BW2 in the fact that his resolve and goals never wavered after finding out his whole life was a lie, he just learned to recognize that the Pokémon world is actually on his side, his enemies (people who abuse and take advantage of pokemon) were always just a smaller groups like Ghetsis and his lackeys.

There are things you could do, absolutely. I don’t think they’re like perfect games or anything. But they ran fast in every sense and had some of the most timeless art in the series, low DS resolution notwithstanding.

There are a lot of pitfalls where a remake could easily be worse than the original, and they’re extremely bad at avoiding pitfalls lately.

My main and only issue with a potential remake is basically the fact that like the Digital Devil Saga duology (my genuine favorite Megaten Games), Gen-5’s story unironically work best if you play both games (BW1 is kind of lousy on its own but unironically gets a pretty massive buff thanks to the sequels, and the sequel mostly work well at taking the first game’s setting and story and making something legit good out of it, but on its own it’s a bit lacking in the detail that playing BW1 would’ve provided), and I can’t see The Pokemon Company actually bothering to remake or even remaster both.

They’re not. The thing holding games back right now is money, not hardware power.

Eh, I can see Parents looking at the Switch 2 as an opportunity to potentially get their kids Switch Lite’s at a cheaper price. Since the Switch 2 is capable of streaming “download play-ing” some games to all the different Switch-1 consoles, parents really only need to upgrade from a family living room Switch and then the kids can either play their own S1 games on a Switch Lite, download play specific games on the Switch 2 (so that they don’t have to buy more than 1 copy of the game for kids to play together), or play S2 games on the living room console.

Honestly shit, I think that may have been the actual point of them adding that “download play” functionality to consoles that effectively only works with “the Switch 2 being the host”. It means if the kids already had Switch Lite’s, you can buy one Switch 2 for the family, and they won’t have to buy new controllers or multiple copies of the game to play the same “family” game.

Although imo, an actual Streaming-style “Remote Play” would’ve been a way better function to have for that purpose by making it connect over local WiFi, especially if you could have multiple Switch-1 consoles Remote Play from the same Switch 2 and have each of them act as a different “joycon controller” (like 1 person can be player 1 if no one’s using the Switch 2 Joycons, 1 person can be Player 2, and so on).

whereas download play actually downloaded a reduced version of the game to the clients. but games are too big now for that to be great i think unless its super super limited but even then its hard to do a vertical slice of a modern game

Yeah for games where there are different screens per player, the Switch 2 renders one big splitscreen canvas internally.

It displays the player 1 section of that on its own screen, and then streams the other views to the client Switches.

2 kinda limited itself by having to make every level playable with like 8 or 9 different weapons

Seeing the source post and thread, it does appear to be a hoax… however the one I do agree with is the voltage thing. That’s actually rather common with encryption chips (which could be handling the “brick”) to nuke the keys or firmware if tampering is detected. In the end it’s just a wait and see at this stage.

But I should note that the Migswitch actually can’t really be used properly for Piracy since it outright requires a full dump of the specific unique cartridge that usually isn’t included, and if 2 switches boot the same dumped cartridge that should result in a ban. The only properly accessible way to use it is by using it legitimately, and most people who got it for the other option usually don’t even bother with the authentic dump, they just go into airplane mode and (last I remembered this did apparently work) boot without the proper extra cartridge files, only the xci was needed.

No, but they’ve already done more than enough gameplay videos to show that it is in fact “Raidou 1 but with Raidou 2’s gameplay”.

And I cannot understate how much nicer Raidou 2 is. Raidou 1 was, no matter how much I still like it, at most a passable but mediocre attempt at Atlus doing an Action RPG because it was literally their first attempt (Maken X was purely an action game and it was basically Melee Doom but with tank controls). Raidou 2 is them learning from practically almost all their mistakes in the first game and making the second one feel way nicer to play.

With me it’s mostly the weight itself that’s an issue. Steam Deck I can handle for even long play sessions, but I vastly prefer using the S1OLED since it’s actually lighter, even with the Nitrodeck controller grip I use for it.

But since the Switch 2 is looking to be heavier, only being slightly lighter than the OLED Deck, I’ll definitely agree the weight difference won’t be as noticeable for that.

at this point Pokémon is so focused on drawing in the next generation of 5y/o kids, milk them for a few years and then they can be off to another franchise, that I can hardly see anyone staying a fan

it's truly a shame that the franchise never really grew along the fanbase

Pokémon Colosseum literally being the only entry where the protagonist ain't some 10y/o kid, completely leaving aside how utterly annoying it was, when they replaced rivals with "friends" that heal you before every encounter, lol
