#Switch 2
1 messages · Page 2 of 1
You know the Switch 1 has active cooling right? It just isn’t all that great active cooling.
Fair, should’ve said weak vs strong cooling rather than passive vs active
Adding a fan in the dock wouldn’t do much without any vents in the handheld anyway
Unless they did the metal shell with bridge thing like a MacBook Air
wait but we knew the node for like 2 years at this point?
we knew it was 8nm for ages
also keep in mind oren has been done design wise for like 2 years
what a weird ass take lmao
"welp, it's over"
Some folks don't understand that Nintendo's strategy with the Switch 2 includes mass producing it and selling it to families.
Didn't Nintendo go to a lower nm node with the OLED Switch ? Maybe they did the same for the Switch 2.
If I remember correctly the first X1 was on a 20nm node and OLED went to 16nm and the Orin CPU is custom made for the Switch 2 so maybe we see the same , either way this 8nm size is a manufactured non issue
Ah, glad to see Shank is there to be the voice of reason.
I mean oren has been planned for 8nm for years at this point
Like 2 years ago at least we knew about it being planned for 8nm
Also, for anyone wondering, this is the comment Shank was replying to.
https://fxtwitter.com/BobWulff/status/1874340265890382153
What were you expecting? An RTX 5090 in there?
Quoting Centro LEAKS (@CentroLeaks)
Welp, it's over.
Based on the leaked SoC picture this appears to be manufactured by Samsung, meaning the 8nm node is likely, that's 2018 technology. A lot of people expected 4nm.
This is just speculation based on the leaked photos, but if this ends up true, t...
You know a take is bad when even Bob is pulling off the mask a little to call out how dumb Centro’s expectations were.
people have stupidly high expectations and refuse to take a step back and think
my only hope was that Nvidia would make a more up to date Tegra SoC with maybe a super cut down RTX3050 core
the Tegra SoC line has so much potential now it hurts me to see Nvidia just stick with the old ass maxwell core
Hell, Ban also agrees on it being dumb.
Nvidia is busy on other projects I think
just overpaying senor employees to do next to nothing
Nividia's workplace culture is a self destructive one that sooner or later is gonna collapse
||sounds like capitalism|| 😅
worse
Base on the leak whats the performance of switch 2 expected to be like? PS4?
Yup, as expected from what the leaks have always been. Hence why Centro’s take that “it should’ve been PS5 level, Nintendo screwed up and went below expectations” being even more stupid since the expectations were never that.
it just means devs need to actually optimize games
I know it's generally more complicated than that but still
Yup, and unlike with the Switch, this one being PS4 level means they actually don’t have “too weak” as an excuse anymore, not unless they want to phase out PS4 ports entirely.
they have some solid performance on the table to get some more demanding ports going, and potentially patching old bad ports to work better
Outer worlds was so damn close
So now we’re hopefully gonna get a lot better optimized PC ports, maybe even ARM versions of ports as well as well due to the Arm Windows laptops, simply because they’re gonna already have to focus on ARM for the Switch.
I know for sure that CDPR is gonna patch Witcher 3 for switch 2 for better performance
Its funny that almost everything about the Switch 2 has been leaked. Nintendo really trying make that announcement as late as possible.
they already sold the christmas switches
no need tbh..
Unironically, I think this is the news that singlehandedly has made me legit excited for the Switch 2. The freaking confirmation that this thing does in fact have a chipset capable of PS4 level stuff (with the only thing left being to find out if there is an underclock that is active for Docked mode, or if it would only be present for Handheld Mode) is legit great, simply for the fact that there will now be legit incentive for everyone to make ports that run on PS4 levels of hardware, regardless of whether it’s ARM or X86.
that's a meme right?
obviously fake af
Well, for one thing, I don’t think Furukawa would be using Nintendo of America for an announcement.
Smaller process node = less energy use and heat generated when performing the same task, not more.
You’re going to walk into bestbuy in 2025 and see 6 handhelds on the shelf, 5 will be tsmc 4nm and one will be an old Samsung phone node renowned for overheating
Bob is being dumb and conflating wanting a modern process node with wanting a high power chip
I like bob but he’s no phawx
This is Furukawa. There will be no successor to the Nintendo Switch. Please consider buying a new Nintendo Switch OLED.
Remember that the Switch OLED was 16, and the first was 20. 8 is still a massive jump.
And hell, even now we still don’t actually know if it’s an 8nm or 5nm because he might have found the wrong freaking chip.
yeah, obviously lots of unknowns still
but 'it might be 5nm' isn't the same as the 'samsung 8nm is amazing' copium
the snapdragon 888 is samsung 5nm isn't it?
There’s a lot of people I’d give you the benefit of the doubt on for this, Shank isn’t one of them.
Especially considering he’s probably one of the only people that commented who did fully take into account the fact Nintendo is more likely than not gonna underclock the chipset for battery life and to counteract heat.
New Nintendo switch OLED 2ds
My money is on Nintendo using these in the new switch. https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2025/01/samsung-is-the-next-company-to-try-to-popularize-3d-displays-again/
That would be ludicrously expensive though
People really want some ridiculous gimmick...
I love Nintendo's ridiculous gimmicks. Sometimes they pan out
no way they'll repeat a feature like that
🤷♂️
Ugh...no thanks
Man this channel became a whole-ass dumpster fire around Christmas, didn’t it?
I’ve been ignoring Switch 2 news for a while but yeah I don’t know why dude was tripping about 8nm process node. Aren’t newer Intel CPU nodes at 7nm? They’re still fantastic for gaming performance so I think he just wanted to rain on somebody’s parade
(Intel might be down to 4nm, tbh I stopped paying attention to them too because AMD has been such an insanely higher value proposition for years now)
I’m honestly willing to bet (maybe purely on vibes but oh well) that when it launches it will actually be one of the more competent handhelds on the market, even if only by software/OS shenanigans as opposed to raw hardware power (that’s more-or-less how they squeezed what they have out of the original)
Process nodes always struck me as a number that engineers have been driving down for no other reason to pat themselves on their backs, anyway
Intel's Lunar Lake Core Ultra 200V, uses TSMC's 3nm N3B process node for its compute tile
Whatever node its on I really don't care and really looking forward to the Switch 2 as long as Nintendo doesn't decide to do anything weird and it gives a nice performance bump to older Switch titles on the new Switch meaning a game meant to run at 30/60FPS play at those levels with no dips
While a meme, it is probably a sensible idea for a number of games, such as the most recent pokemons
I wouldn't mind them just releasing a Mario Maker 2 DLC that's free for Switch 2 owners.
just a single object would be more than enough rather than having to wait 3 years for Mario Maker 3
I mean, I agree with the concept, but I feel like it would also be hypocritical for anyone who had gone along with the “PS5 had no games”.
Obviously there’s more nuance in the fact the Switch 2 could be $400 and that would still be a better upgrade deal (being only $50 more) versus getting a PS5 for $450-$500 when you can currently get a PS4 Pro (to play PS4 games) for only up to like $250 at most.
But I don’t anticipate most people would recognize that nuance before doing a 180 on the “Switch games count as Switch 2 games”.
I'd be looking at it as a bonus feature, I won't be buying one until it has enough switch 2 games I want.
I use my switch mostly as a handheld though, so not sure I can be convinced by one until there's a switch 2 lite.
Same here, it’s actually what led to me getting the Switch OLED as my main unmodded Switch, since most of the upgrades it brought were pretty much perfect for me (I play Switch almost entirely in handheld mode, so I greatly appreciated the new Speakers and OLED screen).
Holding out for the switch 2 oled
Would be hella shocked if they didn't launch with OLED 😆
It was rare back then but c'mon now
All the leaks have suggested 8" lcd not oled
Lol. I take it back. That's nutty
that's Nintendo to ya
Mini led would be nice
not as nice as proper OLED or AMOLED
but yeah the initial launch is almost definitely going to just be regular old IPS
As someone whose OLED switch died and was forced to return to LCD. OLED is nice and a definitive improvement, but you can live without it.
If the OLED is the difference between 400 USD and 450 USD MSRB, it's a sensible choice.
Yeah. For sure. Sell for long enough for the other components to drop in price, then upgrade and keep the price the same
Any speculations when it would be announced?
Def this year
I will buy it for sure
It's gotta be announced very very soon
I'd be surprised if we make it to February without an announcement
I really hope it's able to boost performance on lots of switch 1 games without needing separate patches to be released. I'm loving Brothership but I kind of have to grin and bear the constant minor framedrops lol
Ideally it should have an automatic boost to fps and/or resolution, but then have an option for switch 2 enhanced patches that improve textures etc
I still think they may include 3d on this.. it's been my hunch for a year or so.
that or a 2nd screen feature.
I mean other people may have hated it. But id love 3d. I didn't use it all the time but it was fun
I think it would be a cool feature, and with Samsung bringing 3d panels back at CES, it's lining up
they've also hinted at a 2nd screen, and these new joycons have additional sensors people are picking up on.. sounds like they are going to be including something innovative at the least.. which Nintendo is known for and I've always said "if they release a Switch 2 without some innovation, they are not being nintendo"
I hope so. I've never skipped a Nintendo system. Mostly because of the new things they try. Not sure if I would want a system thats selling point is now it can play the latest AAA titles. I got other systems for that
Treating it or a tv as your 2nd screen so you could play ds/3ds between the console and the tv would be quite good
Problem with includng 3d is it is additional overhead, lowering performance for something many won't actually like or use, there was a reason why the 2ds existed beyond simply price
Yeah. But that's perfect ground for the switch2 lite
Let me melt my eyeballs, my kids can have the eye-safe version
3DS helped cure my strabismus, more 3D please
Do what?
You can really feel the threads starting to wrap around this one. Announcment is imminent
That’s my totally-non-specific bet
Need to get me them stonks before it’s too late
Though, they’ll explode again when the console launches, too
You think Nintendo will produce enough units ? Scalpers will definitely try to buy up everything.
it's not 2020 anymore
I've heard it only gets worse the later the game goes on
In an interview they said most of the performance bottle neck is that the switch really isn't really able to handle doing that black outline on all the characters
What's crazy too is since they are the literal octopath devs they initially wanted the game to be 2D HD, which honestly would have been really sick and a better continuation of what alphadream was doing with the art style
But nintendo shot it down multiple times
They basically had to spend so much time optimizing the game and just getting the basic gameplay to work they outsourced the script to an external studio. Which is why the game has so many pacing issues especially early on
I actually think the Brothership style is waaay better than hd2d lol I'm glad they insisted on it
Nintendo also from the system update version requirement likely shelved the game for almost 2 years
It's good looking but if the switch just literally isn't powerful enough to run it stablely and was gonna hinder the games development so much nintendo shouldn't have forced it
Switch 2 even without a patch should at least stabilize the frame rate better. Unless nintendo makes the archaic decision to have Switch 1 mode be super locked down and limited to only 4g of ram like they've done on previous consoles
Would be nice if it got a 60fps patch. But it's unlikely with the kinda middling sales the game got
correct, not even the Nvidia 4000series GPUs were scalped
If they really did shelve it for two years, they definitely should've just made it a Switch 2 launch title
Shame it didn't sell well, I'm really enjoying it personally. That ign 5/10 review is on crack
would be nice if more predictable improvements like 60 fps mode should come without needing updates
Anti-aliasing in Switch 1 games would nice, Metroid Prime Remaster looks a lot better without jaggies
anti-aliasing is basically blurring pixels, right?
Yes, and also no
Genki now has a page up to sign up for Switch 2 accessories news along with this video https://t.co/hNrX8vclPq
Genki basically just shown whole thing off
Including dock 😂
Wow, they should at least get an official teaser out now
🤨
is that's the real deal, I'm disappointed, doesn't look too different, more like the "New" Nintendo Switch
The original for me was basically perfect minus some ergos and the controller docking. That said, the slides still work til this day. They just felt/seemed like they'd fail at some point
I like that there are diff hand grips. Not sure if that's a case and genki things. Which I'm assuming. But I like it
Still hoping for a 3D button 😆
I wonder what the sensor is for
I am sort of imagining it will do something stream related or like Wii U controller style
People think it's for a computer mouse type thing
Interesting lol
i really despise the joycons, feel like micro gamepads
Yeah. They're great to throw at a room full of children tho. Haha. Pro controller is comfy tho
yeah pro is nice
Joycons good for multiplayer on flights too
Switch 2 accessory SKUs starting to appear in GameStop systems, seemingly confirming MicroSD Express support https://www.reddit.com/r/Switch/comments/1hx0wge/switch_2_skus_found_in_system_today/
Dang that’s big
Yooo. I'm on board
The original wasn't really pocketable to begin with
Can always wait for the lite which I'm guessing will be smaller
Time to start saving
Yeah... Of all the larger handhelds and with a steamdeck OLED already, this will be my premium portable for the year
I'm too invested in nintendo, and MonolithSoft
Damn, that won’t fit in the same space where I have the Switch1. I will need a new TV low board first. Or wait for a Switch 2 OLED Mini…
haha true true
While not pocketable, it was fully usable as a handheld, this one (especially with the lack of ergo) will end up being better suited to playing it docked and thus making the bigger screen utterly pointless for most people
I actually just started saving lol. I'm putting $20 per paycheck aside, so weekly, for it.
So that should be $260 before April, the rumored release? official announcement?
Depends..can't tell if the joycons grips are integrated or specifically an accessory. My guess is an accessory. But they basically turn it into a steamdeck
I am actually pretty surprised they made the Switch 2 so much bigger.
It already felt like the Switch was fairly big.
Maybe I should wait the additional two years for a Switch 2 Lite?
Yeah. I'll reserve total judgement until we find out weight, thickness, etc. I mean we can kind of judge now and it's def bigger, but I feel like Nintendo isn't usually one to just go bigger for no reason
Am curious to hear their explanation
Might just be a case of struggling to get the power they want with good cooling and battery efficiency in the original switch size
Deffo the power and the good cooling
Hell idk how they are going to do with the next switch lite 2
Might also be that since the switch, handhelds have got bigger so they are simply following suit, they went bigger with the oled and it presumably sold well, which they could take to mean people wanted a bigger display rather than the more logical idea that people wanted an oled
Yep Yep plus it's light it's not heavy
Yeah. I mean I'm sure it's an explainable reason. Besides the usual system gimmick, most changes are supported by extensive customer analysis
"80% of players use docked or on couch, portable players tend to be muscly beef cakes and can carry extra weight" etc. Just feel like it won't be a simple response of like "bigger is better" tho I could be wrong
Personally because I couldn't easily slip it in a coat or pant pocket, the original switch was mostly a couch machine or work travel machine and dock, sit on plane, device for me anyway. So the added size really doesn't change much
Also noticed that the older switch is being held behind the new one. Kind of screws with dimensions from that perspective. Also it's weird that its buttons aren't labeled. Must be an accessory vendor or something but maybe they just mocked it up. Could be a lot of things. But I imagine we'll get more details relatively soon
that pic was a 3d printed mockup being used by 3rd party accessory company to show off their new stuff
Huh true! Makes me even more excited to see the real switch 2
Yeah. Even the video posted above might have a thin case on it I think. Quite possible the weight may not be significantly different. Who knows
Would be cool if you could maybe hold or stand it vertical. Maybe support 3ds and 2ds games. Maybe additional joycons or add-ons planned. Who knows. I'm hoping there's something novel in therr
lmao, people in that thread actually expecting 4K.
Like, get real, the beefy home consoles can barely do that shit. What makes you think a handheld with a hdmi dock is gonna do it?
Personally I don't really care if it's 4K for a Nintendo system. Games look gorgeous regardless. I mean it's possible they'd release some kind of performance dock with additional power, and not just have it unlock a performance mode. But I don't think it's really that necessary
I'm hoping it also means it's pretty affordable compared to like it's PS5 pro priced counterparts
graphical style over fidelity any day
Looking sweet
Damn! Accessory makers probably waited over a year for the announcement, sitting on stock produced a year ago 😂 Now the legal NDA over 1 year has worn off or something
Yeah this was my thought. NDA has expired 😅
joysticks look ever so slightly better
Those are probably just a render of the stock ones
honestly 1080p/60 at high settings would be a marvel if they can achieve that
it's gonna be able to DLSS up to 4k in docked mode, I'm certain of it. Handheld nah, but I do expect 1080p handheld.
I love Nintendo. Def getting a switch 2. But man are normie Nintendo Stans so dumb
$350 seems about right tho. I'd imagine it's somewhere around there. Maybe $300 in the states. But that'd be pushing it
Actually I'll be honest. If there is no cool novel gimmick or must have launch title I'll probably just wait. I'm fine with it not being as powerful as a steam deck for similar price, but it needs something cool, and if it's just spec bumps I wanna see how battery life is before pulling the trigger. If it's equivalent to the deck I may actually skip this round
Well no, it being around as powerful as the Steam Deck is pretty much the default, with some assuming it could potentially be even more powerful.
I actually also don’t need a Switch 2 yet and it will depend largely on exclusive games for me. But the hardware from Nintendo is usually top notch, without a single flaw in the first batch and the price stability is unparalleled. So might as well buy early.
If it’s backwards compatible, I will gift the original Switch to my niece
I like your optimism. But it wouldn't shock me in the least if steam deck was still more powerful. After all it's not something Nintendo really chases. 8nm and other details means it could fall on either side.
Not even optimism when we consider the bit where the components leaked could very well end up actually being 5nm instead (since it’s still surprisingly enough a debate), alongside the fact that while it is pretty much guaranteed that Nintendo will absolutely underclock the thing for Handheld mode, Docked mode is another story entirely since even what we do have confirmed has access to dlss, which will work as a really good option for making demanding ports easier to manage.
Yeah. Every release the rumor mill shoots high and low. And low is usually right in this regard. I'll be happy if otherwise. Just feel like many hope for the former but are still happy with the later
That’s not even getting into the part where the Steam Deck is already only comparable to a PS4, with most of the punching above its weight class that it pulls off being due to people doing an excellent job of supporting the thing, and a more powerful Switch 2 that’s in the same tier would basically be even more appealing, even with it being ARM, due to the high demand the Switch in general has compared to the Steam Deck and other handheld pc’s.
True. PS4 would be a fidelity upgrade for switch as well tho 😁
Just saying. People were shocked when switch dropped and games were running at 30fps
Exactly my point.
Right. We might just be missing each other. I have doubts it'll be any more powerful than a steamdeck. I thought you were implying it'll be more powerful
It’s already gonna be a massive jump from the Switch 1, and even being only around PS4 base model would still put it in the same tier as the Steam Deck, where the only difference would be that the Steam Deck can be full throttle at all times, while the Switch is likely gonna be underclocked for Handheld, while docked could potentially be full throttle if the leaked dock designs suggests they’re planning on implementing a fan into the dock.
Oh, I absolutely do not really believe it will be more powerful, I just believe it could and should be able to reach similar levels, and that it being that level of power would incentivize companies to actually optimize for not just that performance level, but also for ARM as a whole (which would all be great).
At most for the “more powerful” but, I just held some hopes that it could somehow end up having better performance than the Xbox Series S, and that was moreso me thinking it would be the funniest shit imaginable than it being an actual hope, specifically that “I’ll laugh my ass off if Microsoft’s stupid ‘you have to support the Series S by default if you want to port the games, even if it would only run fine on Series X and run poorly on Series S’ ends up resulting in *Nintendo having a current console that plays games better than Xbox’s current console”.
Haha. Would be funny.
But yeah. Def still excited. Just hoping there's something Nintendo fun in there as well
Switch will probably have ''4K'' in the same way PS4 Pro touted 1080p with checkerboard upscaling as ''4K''
or a 2x upres with that ai thing they copyrighted a while back
or
SGSR
no native 4K unless its a pixel art game
or Minecraft Bedrock maybe lol
I'm hoping that backwards compat with the 1080p display means Handheld on the SW2 will be SW1 Docked, hopefully with unlocked framerates for games that ran at 30 docked on SW1
if theyve got sgsr they should just be able to inject it into the frame pipeline of their older games honestly
Yup. Bye bye
With good reason
I mean they're both playing it off like genki didn't get final hardware for their accessories but they probably did. You just always say woops when caught
Same guy was right for PS5 pro and Nintendo clock announce dates
Not that he can't be wrong but. With all the leaks I feel like it's pretty eminent.
Close enough that some companies clearly felt safe breaching NDAs to leak their accessories early XD
I’ll take one with Mario kart plz
Yeah, I’m not too sure how much I believe that price, considering that would be around $280 when converted to USD.
Although, the Switch OLED is around 450 in Canadian Dollars, which converts to less than what it costs in the US ($350).
So who knows? Maybe they’re gonna do something really weird and make it effectively $300.
I mean it's gonna be old hardware in general
Maybe they make the dock sold separate
Well and this isn't OLED
Usually Nintendo is pretty good about keeping things affordable
If they want to make the switch 2 as unit sales popular as the switch 1 and it's only a hardware bump upgrade it'll need some incentivising
Wii - $249
Wii U - $299
Switch - $299
$300 as a target isn't that crazy. And falls in line with their recent affordability. $350 might make sense too. It's why I always think it's silly when people complain about them keeping their game prices consistent.
I thought I read that they were going to be no launch titles straight from Nintendo themselves
There were database leaks with ports that people assumed would be the games available at launch
Nintendo never released a confirmation as far as I'm aware
Oh I see
Yeah. Red dead seems to be mentioned by everyone. There's 3 other ports. And then I think one of two mystery titles. One of which could be mario kart
Kinda seems wild they wouldn't release any first party title with the system. I think they have before but I can't remember what
Might have been Pokemon. Which isn't really third party
I think a new mario game at launch and one other first party game is a given
considering how long it has been since some large first party games from nintendo
yeah, i mean they had to be working on something 😆
new 3d mario
new 3d dk or just dk in general
new starfox
new metroid is confirmed already
i hope its all of them!
no F-Zero though
I would love one but that's not really a console seller to all but hardcore fans
Having some racing game at launch would be a console seller though
theres a new mario kart heavily rumored
I'll take another F.A.S.T game
So Nintendo paid Rockstar off to hold back on a PS5 upgrade to make their launch look more impressive. Smart move
About the price, the listing somewhere else for 380€ seems more reasonable and is actually closer to 400 USD. But maybe the AI-upscale-dock will be optional?
More reasonable based on internals? Or just cause everything else is so damn expensive 😆
I could see them hitting $300 with the hardware if they plan to sell at a slight loss..maybe even $350 with paper thin margins.
I think they're going to have a harder time selling it if it's simply just a spec bumps AND costs $400
€380 also includes VAT no?
You‘re right. 380€ would be around 320-350 (currently 325 USD)
Yeah. I could see $350. $300 would just be an auto buy for me 😆
Idk guys
I might not be getting this on launch
Unless it launches with Metroid or Pokemon
Maybe Metroid. Def not Pokemon. Not even sure if I'd buy a launch Pokemon. Last few titles have been... Interesting
I would play the heck out of some mario kart tho
If Pokemon Legends A-Z isn't launch window I'll be surprised.
Guess it could be. It's def coming this year. Just wouldn't be shocked if it was the holiday seller
Leaks have said 8/15
Would be nice to finally see a new Mario Kart after like ten years lol. Not sure how it could compete with 8 Deluxe and it's billion tracks tho
Yeah. Guess if it launches with brand new tracks they'll roll out old ones again over time
what is even the point lmao
unless it really does make original switch games look/feel that much better with the higher framerates/resolution
i'm assuming genki would have had to work some deal to get the hardware to make accessories, and clearly were like, i'm gonna pay this blackmarket dude instead?
oh, wait, nm, apple does partner with some accessories so probably wanted and exclusive launch period first
isn't that what it's supposed to do XD?
I just had it in my mind like, yeah I'mma pay black market prices for this thing before any games are even announced for it 😂
very few manus try hard to get a launch release to actually be something excitingly unexpected
manus?
these days it takes a monumental effort
"manufacturers"
could have gone with corpos too
makes more sense
Here we go guys!
Get ready for Thursday
Wonder if they will shadow drop like Switch OLED trailer
Will be interesting to see if it's the 16th or 17th
Used to always be Thursdays but I feel like the past year they've done it whenever
my goodness
can't wait for the smell-o-vision reveal
I'll probably leave the thread then lol
Even if the leak is wrong I guess it'll be busy regardless lol
If it really is just a console reveal with no software, that would imply to me that it's got a fair few unique features and stuff. I wonder if we'll see glimpses of the next 3d Mario in the reveal like they did with Odyssey in the Switch reveal
imagine it'll get quite busy before then if it's real since Nintendo is gonna announce the announcement ahead of time
Unless they shadow drop. OLED trailer was like that
I could see them doing that again, esp with all the leaks
Yeah. They've been doing it more recently
VGC reports that Nintendo will reveal its new console on Thursday, January 16th. This is according to claims from reliable video game podcaster Nate the Hate and supported by The Verge’s own insider sources. We believe the likely sequence of events will be an announcement on January 15th, with the actual reveal taking place the following day, s...
Verge also confirming
Switch 2 announcement this week!
Nintendo: The switch successor is coming soon.
End stream.
It would funny if it another one of those announcements of an annoucement videos though.
time to go on cheap noodles and tuna to save up
Hopefully all switch 1 accessories work on switch 2 fine
need my m30 to work please
I'm sure controllers and the like will
What are the chances of Nintendo dropping „available immediately“? I‘m flying to HK on Thursday, wouldn’t mind to be one of the first to have a Switch 2 😂
0.0001
I would be honestly happy if the switch 2 was lighter and faster LOL
Imagine anything that works via bluetooth will. Anything using 2.4ghz dongle will likely need an update applied and likely same for USB devices. But depends if they are using same OS underneath on switch 2. Imagine they must be if they want backwards compatibility
100% expecting a pro controller 2
If they make it 399 and “available now” it’s got horrible flashbacks of the Saturn 😂
Prime time for Sony to release Vita 2 and price it at 299 imo
Worst thing that'll happen to Nintendo then is price cut to $350 and have games at launch lol.
"Sure we're $50 more, but we're also Nintendo and have Nintendo IP so you'll buy it over the probably won't be supported longer than a year Vita 2"
Oh yeah, for clarity, I am not being super serious
„Nintendo is getting RDR2? Then we will create a Vita 2 so we can have GTA5!“ Console Wars 2025
I am curious about a PSP3
The only accesories that can realistically work on the Switch 2 would be the Pro Controller and Joycons but not attached.
I dunno why people are expecting Sony of all people to be disruptors in the handheld market when they are currently behind flops like the PS5 Pro and their most recent handheld release is a streaming device
i heard the ps5 pro is selling more than the ps4 pro did
Must be depression shopping 😆
Still don't understand why people buy that thing. The side by sides are basically this
I am increasingly convinced that the Switch 2 will be Nintendo's safest ever follow up console. Possible exception is GB > GBC. Having bought their products for over 40 years - I am surprised how safe this hardware is turning out to be.
Yeah. So far from what we know that seems to be the case
I'm hoping there's some surprises in the accessories tho. Which there could be
Maybe they feel they have found their original iPhone template in the Switch and it makes no sense to deviate from that for business reasons?
But boy oh boy - the rumours are piling up now and I honestly think they are just going to push a Switch 1 hardware upgrade out.
Not trolling, by the way - very much hope I'm wrong.
No. Totally understandable. I have my doubts too. And if it's just spec bumps I'm fine with waiting for some limited game launch edition
Maybe Nintendo looked at how their products with with dual screens and / or motion controls worked out and thought 'Hey it is a great cash grab in the moment to jump on the gimmick bandwagon, but it isn't securing us for long term strategy'?
Yeah. Who knows. Even when they do crazy shit they still sell like hotcakes
Now that someone mentioned bringing the 3ds tech to the switch it's all I want. Lol
There is a sensor
There will be some sort of gimmick or feature that we’re not familiar with
Yeah. I expect it. Well. Hope for it
True but leaks may happen anytime
next window for an announcement-announcement is maybe in 2 hours if they wanted a 0:00 announcement. If not then you'd be waiting at least 8 more hours imo.
Cmon Nintendo
Still think we are getting a shadow drop
I’m not, I was just referencing the whole PlayStation/E3 “Two Ninety Nine” thing
It were an joke
Granted, maybe not a very good one….
If you know it you get it. 🤣
The shortest presentation in history
I wouldn't get my hopes up
it's not a very Nintendo thing to do
They shadow dropped oled annoucement
Its been done
ah, then l stand corrected
Is it out yet
Still nothing 😅
Hopefully announcement for the announcement soon
But i am under the impression the trailer is just going to appear
I’ll check again in 10 mins
Are you really letting 600 seconds pass before checking again? That's wild
Lol
I mean it's gonna be Thursday or Friday
Rumors say Friday. In the past they've done a lot of Thursdays
Not sure if they'd announce Japan time or US time. Normally I'd say Japan. But they'll probably drop YouTube vids at the same time so maybe they'll wait til later
#🕹│rh-general message
With the spec leaks being out recently (or me only recently seeing them lol) is what I said here out there or is it a reasonable assumption?
Is it out yet?
You missed it. First batch already sold out
Yeah we are now waiting for switch 3
Damn brutal
i'm skipping the 3 and will be getting the switch 4, but maybe i'll wait for the oled pro model
that's not even an effective joke lmao
And I'd still buy one
Because it'll also double as a hoverboard
While PS and Xbox just dive further into uncanny valley
Saw a reddit comment that basically puts it at 10x in terms of raw FLOPS compared to the Switch
If they fix the atrocious mem bandwidth from the Switch 1, it will be fine
"Switch 3 2030, as powerful as the Xbox Series S!!"
switch 2 docked is going to already be that
75% of the raw graphical processing power plus DLSS and frame gen means the actual picture + performance of switch 2 docked will be better than series S
It's more comparable to the PS4 with those specs and clock speeds, not the Series S
Hopefully it gives Series S performance, but seems like very wishful thinking atp
I've been hearing PS4 and PS4 Pro specs for Switch 2 thrown around.
y'all severely under-estimate DLSS and frame gen imo
it's just barely shy of PS4 in handheld mode and 75% of series S docked
and that's just raw GPU performance
not even taking DLSS+frame gen into account
Isn't frame gen more for "you already have decent-ish framerates, we'll toss even more at you"? Because for me frame interpolation has felt super weird the first times I've used it.
Well we've had the spec leaks and very little to contradict them for a while now, clock speed leaks are more recent
No, it's "we didn't improve much, but we made ai that pretends we did"
I'm looking at the tflops
It ain't that simple
I mean, that's what it's used for, not what it's meant for right?
I mean, look at the 5070 false advertising Vs raw performance
handheld is 1.72 peak, docked is 3.09 peak
ps4 was 1.84, xbox series s is 4.006
and with DLSS you can probably count on handheld rendering internally at 720p and upscaling to 1080p, and docked rendering at 1080 or 1440p and upscaling to 4k
I highly doubt 1440p because that's too PC centric for Nintendo to ever think about imo.
even still, obviously 1080p upscaled to 4k doesn't look like 4k native, but it still looks fantastic
Eh
So, it's a PS4 Pro at best
Docked
And a Slim handheld
Hopefully Nintendo don't shoot themselves in the foot and advertise 120fps or 4K support lol
Definitely not together
they should absolutely advertise 4k120 because there would absolutely be some games that can hit that
Wonder will it also be using Frame Gen, bleh
Minecraft, some side scrollers, lol, none without Dlss and Frame Gen
frame gen works for that gen of Nvidia GPUs so I'd imagine they'd take full advantage of it
Even then it'll prob more not be locked at all
plenty of indy games.
let me play my Golf Story in 4k120 dammit.
no but seriously I really hope we get a high refresh rate display. Even 90hz would make me happy
90hz is criminally undersupported tbh
Most game streaming services if not all only offer 60 or 120, can't buy 90hz displays because everything skipped to 120-144hz
tons of phones have 90hz displays
phone
you say that as if people don't game or watch content on their phones lol
Is it out yet?
Announcement is out, but has been removed by YouTube moderation. Too much hype
Ah yes, the very common media support for 90hz
(not a single streaming service, even game streaming services)

Going bed, hope I can order a switch 2 when I wake up
Still no announcement. We are getting a shadow drop i’m telling you
It’s rumored to be tmrw
The announcement
Apparently they were meant to be tweeting the announcement today. But haven’t. I think they are literally just going to hit publish on vid and leave it at that
Same thing happened with OLED vid. Just dropped no warning
Yeah and yesterday they tweeted about the pretendo thing
Like come on you guys aren’t THAT mysterious and cool
Today they tweet about Donkey Kong

I heard last time the tweet came out about 24 hours before the announcement which was around 9pm EST / 8am JPT
So there are still a few hours
Bad for Europe and Africa time zones. Anyway, I am going to bed.
Is this a subtle hint for Metroid Prime 4 as a launch game?
That and Metroid Prime 2 and 3 Remaster, please!
I'm here thinking of what kind of games will get ported to Switch 2. My dumb sucker ass would totally get Sekiro a third time.
Or Friday. I've heard both
midday tomorrow (usa) IS friday for japan fyi
yeah like it's currently 8:30ish am in japan lol
on thursday btw
we're probably like 26-28 hours away from the announcement
Yeah. True. Will be interesting to see when exactly
you know, even if they do finally announce it this week chances are high that it'll be a nothing burger
everything that's leaked so far made official lol
"this is the switch 2. It looks like a switch, but a little bit bigger. Stay tuned in the next few months for more!"
I'm almost hoping it'll all be done with by the time I wake up.
what time zone are you in?
Eastern
I've also been up for a billion hours, so I'm expecting to sleep for a billion more.
I have a feeling this consoles going to be underwhelming especially with all the hype and exciting going around..
That's what I've been thinking all along. The mountain is going to give birth to a mouse
It’s gonna do just fine
The PS5 was also just a stronger PS4Pro
There’s no need for flashy reveals
As long as launch titles are great the switch 2 will be great as well
Eh. I think people are just over expecting on the performance front
We've all gotten too used to holding supercomputers in our hands
Never said it’s going to fail , just said it’s going to be underwhelming , especially since the chips been ready for 2 years according to Nvidia.
Bigger isn’t always better for me , I already thought the OG Switch was big , so increasing its size for me isn’t exciting….
but hey if it came somehow hit ps4-ps4 pro performance like the rumours it should be good but I have a feeling it’s not
you shouldn't have
nate said thursday in the US, friday in Japan, meaning thursday evening/night in the US
Unacceptable
Welp! Today is the day! At least here in the UK 😅
Still only tweeting about Donkey Kong
I feel bad for Nate if he is wrong
Most Nintendo reveals are between 3PM - 6PM in UK. So still time for a shadow drop!
Imagine all YouTubers are poised and ready to make summary videos/thoughts and impressions on the event 😅
After the first Switch reveal there was a Tidal Wave of youtubers predicting it was going to be a big failure
No SSD, no 4k, can't plug joycons while playing 0/10 IGN
How's the switch 2 cope
My body is ready
A Zelda game
That doesn't mean Nintendo Switch 4 won't
Ayyy Mario kart 9
So the aesthetics aren't too nice but OK. At least we have a date now
I like it over the original switch
I just wish for all games to be 60fps
I don't think they'll target 60fps in heldhold mode
It'll be either 1080p30 or 720p60
Probably the former
of course it was all real
I know it's Nintendo, but their first party stuff will all be targeting 60fps no doubt
see ttyd remake
called it
Man April 2nd is so far away 😭
unbelievable boring aesthetics, they've done nothing to the sticks, dpad, ergonomics, nothing
if this was a retro handheld it'd be torn apart by reviewers
Well, looks like someone was completely correct to fully expect and not be surprised by it having full backwards compatibility?
Can someone pick up that phone?
I totally called it!
love this they also added more shoulder buttons to individual joycons and the attachment looks sturdier
Who doesn't assume it will have backwards compatibility?
also i think the switch lite 2 should have detachable joycons and i hope that them making the big one bigger would allow for that
Well we know Labo won’t work on it since it doesn’t work on the OLED
You would be very disappointed and surprised to know how many times I’ve gotten a “we’ll just have to wait and see” in response to me asking people “why the hell would they not make both physical and digital work? It’s gonna have full backwards compatibility.”
I mean expect wii u situation with og switch 1 every nintendo had most of backwards compatibility
The Wii U isn’t officially the Switch-0, and it used DVD’s because it was a console that could get away with that, it wasn’t a tablet that outright needed cartridges.
Exactly so nintendo has have a history of doing backwards compatibility so of course they would backwards compatibility for switch 2
it would have been insane not having it, especially with the most continuist design they've ever done
Until they can pull the rug from under people at the worst time to cause the most issues
Exactly what I’m saying, considering some people actively went “yeah, but Wii U needed ports”.
Yhyh
Exactly what I’m saying!
It’s like, there’s having lowered expectations, and then there’s literally just being idiotic levels of cynical or pessimistic.
I'm so glad nowwwww this would be my first switch ever
But should I wait for switch 2 lite maybe maybe
Switch 2 and switch lite sounds like good good fun because they said certain nintendo switch games may not supported on switch 2
i'm not buying it at launch or even at all until there's a super mario odyssey sequel
I buy it next year
they're probably saying that because they haven't tested however many thousands of games switch has
or because of stuff like labo
or ring fit
Yeah probably
We get to wait 2.5 months to find out when the actual release date is. Wooooo
I am excited.... but also not? Nintendo shill levels high, but the leaks were REAL leaks and its not super exciting as its been leaked to all hell
i suppose either may or or september-november
I mean, it will be released this year. My gut tells me Fall, but there is a glimmer of hope for late spring/ summer
They said they're stockpiling consoles. But the initial wave is going to get blown out by scalpers, and everyone clamoring to get one.
So idk it would "seem" Smart to me to release it earlier in the year, to get that shit over with, so that ninty can just sell a shitload of them at christmas themselves
good luck to scalpers and i hope they lose a ton of money like with the last few big launches
it's not 2020 anymore
If they are doing the full direct in April. I feel like June release is extremely likely
Tbf if Joycons 1 can pair to the new system that could easily make ring fit playable
Labos definitely impossible tho
doesn't the ring for ring fit have a joycon rail you're supposed to put a joycon in?
the mechanism is different now
That's why I said joycon 1
If they make the original joycons pairable through bluetooth
Games like 1 2 switch and ring fit should be fine
Are those colored joystick rings or actual RGB?
I am not sure which answer I'd hate more
like, making the joycon boring plain black but you still have to worry about mix and matching colors would suck so much.
I like black but
BUT
We would get more colours anyway
Joycon 1s are going to be pairable and it's going to suck.
Assuming just colored plastic
Like, you'll need another switch or a new accessory to charge them.
Likely
I mean they make charging "handles" to pop the joycons into, as well as the little charging stands that can charge up 4x cons at once
but yeah it will be a bit funky
I've never worried about the joycon rails as much as I am already worrying about this thin piece of plastic that's constantly going to receive impacts from magnetic attraction
So much for March release then
If direct is in April. I can’t see it being available same day
My money's on June
2 months for a huge marketing push after the big direct reveals everything
Nah was never going to release in March. The only actual communication from ninty was "We'll reveal the device by march" lol
There's going to be physical events "all over the world" which I guess means US, Europe, Australia, Japan and Korea.
So all things considered we're two months ahead of schedule lol
So if you live in one of those five areas you might be able to witness the Switch 2 in person long before release.
They confirmed it
Yeah I live about an hour train ride / hour drive with no traffic from NYC. So i'll register for the first look event
Make a day of it
I'm guessing we won't get any trailers or stuff until after the direct
Its basically a lotto anyway, so registering doesn't mean you're guaranteed a ticket
Yeah as far as I see it. 4/2/25 (APRIL lol NOT FEB for the brits here) will be when they hit you with release date, preorder date, and some software
Yeah I mean. Prime 4 is hype level over 9000
They always say that "Metroid doesn't sell super well" so who knows. Nintendo doesn't consider it a "Strong" IP.
Ngl in the switch 1 trailer we saw the pro controller and like 5 different Nintendo games shown even if they weren't given names yet
Metroid prime remastered did well so nintendo would say why not and reveal trailer of prim 4
So this reveal is kinda weak in comparison
It better be
Of course but remember the leaks kinda ruined the reveal
Now imagine you can emulate switch 2 games with yuzu
They literally say it in the freaking video.
Both physical and digital backwards compatibility.
I wonder if MK9 is gonna be the cross gen title. Might explain why it's not that huge of a graphical jump
It's not FULL compatibility, though.
Note the little asterisk
They just mean stuff like labo
And the new joycons don't have the ir
That’s the ability for the joy on to be a mouse yeah?
So its launching in April? Im so confused
Digital and Physical is full as far as I’m concerned. Screw Labo, that shit doesn’t matter.
We don't know yet what they mean.
I know I just couldn’t find the right words to say that backwards compatibility would have been a disaster
There’s literally too many people that own a switch
Nintendo direct in april
They’ll do their best to support the switch 1 platform as long as they can
So they would show the switch 2 in full details on nintendo direct in April 2
Aren’t like 40% of Sony players still on the ps4/pro as well
Not launching
It won't be as annoying as the 3ds with the switch 1 tho
Ok cool 💪 cheers
Since any new switch game will also run on switch 2
Backwards compatibility and supporting you’re older gen for as long as possible is a must
Hope so i have over 300 digital games with them at the moment
Sooo people who want bit of power don't worry we got switch 2
I wonder if they release any "switch 2" specific versions of games like pokemon legends za and metroid prime 4
300 damn
It’s especially important if you’re not gonna have many games at the start of launch.
Or if it'll just be a patch
Yeah 😅 thats not including physical
And just one sku for the game
I feel like switch 1 compatible will also keep releasing for the coming years, the same way the psp still got games up until like 2011
Switch 1 has to be the most dragged console in history
Someone doubted you on this. That's silly
No shit it’s silly.
😅 better keep a switch 1 still just in case
Like they already did it with the DS and 3DS
What was crazy if the rumors are true it was actually THIRD PARTIES trying to nudge nintendo to make the switch 2 not backwards compatible
It’ll probably be indentical
Game carts with a slight bump to not fit inside the switch 1
But switch 1 cartridges will fit into the switch 2
Hopefully we have to deal with way less ports
Since they basically have no more wii u games to pull from
lol
That tracks, they would take advantage of Nintendo having some ignorant Dinosaurs in their Exec branch to try and ruin the Switch 2.
Enjoy all the "enhanced" Wii and GC games coming for $60
Damn. No switch experience near me. Too bad. Was fun last time
This was true for most of the series but Dread and Prime Remastered did pretty dang well, the Switch just tends to have that effect on franchises
I always felt like the switch 1 was just one time thing anyways
They don’t want to deal with Nintendo absolutely smoking them on sales for a whole nother 7-8 years.
Watch them steal Dolphin emulator for that purpose
Honestly. Money. They get more by just digitally distrbuting. And nintendo can't charge them as much for propriatary carts
Twilight Princess, OoT, MM, and Wind Waker are all easy lucrative releases
Because they went from disc's to cartridges. And nintendo clearly lost money on a LOT of wii u games
Haha. True. But it's not like AAA makers don't do a remastered every couple years. Said as an owner of 8 purchased Skyrims
I will sacrifice a sack full of puppies for a Kid Icarus Uprising port though
Jokes on you when we start getting remastered remasters
I'm just expecting $60 upgrade patches for Switch 1 games so if that doesn't happen I'll be pleasantly surprised
If nintendo ever had the balls to give us Mario Galaxy 3 I would ascend but it'll never happen
That's basically the only other thing I was hoping for from the reveal, please let BC actually enhance the games that struggle on the Switch 1
I can't lie Nintendo is going to have fun with third party games unleash each games nooooo hold back
Third Party’s literally gave up on the Wii U and did a 180 on statements right before the thing’s launch.
Nintendo never even bothered to make a sequel to odyssey despite how much that game made
I'm aware
I was saying why nintendo ported so many wii u games to switch
Them being greedy was charging $60 a pop for them tho
Why would they not charge $60 for an enhanced port of a Wii U game that costed the exact same?
Odyssey and Galaxy were bangers but I'm kind of glad they just don't pump out sequels and try new things
That's not even true most of the time
It’s not like people “didn’t buy them because it was $60”. It’s because people literally didn’t get the Wii U.
I just want an actual Galaxy 1-2 Switch port
Dont need Call of Mario: Modern Wario 1-50
Without needing touch controls every 5 seconds
Luigis Mansion 2 was $40 on 3ds
Hahahhaa
Still charged 60 anyways
You mean the game that was released 2 years into one of Nintendo’s worst selling consoles?
Well, at least I have more time to save for the Switch 2.
Also glad I do all my Nintendo game shopping during holidays when most stuff hits the 40 region 😆
doesn’t feel like Switch 2, more like “New Switch XL”
Versus the port made for their most successful console? Said port likely not even being a “simple task”.
I literally said it makes sense for them to bring them over. Just charging full price when some of these ports add almost nothing sometimes is greedy
We don't really know anything about it we didn't know. So maybe there's more?
Yeah but I'm glad they didn't risk it this time
The hardware was pretty hashed out a while ago
I don't get why you are dying on this hill 😂
Still hoping there's some cool accessories in the pipe that would actually get me to buy one
Hell even before last year
Because I refuse to call that greedy when that is much better reserved for TOTK being $70 for what is essentially just BOTW with half a new game’s worth of content slapped on top.
Yeah. I just don't really care about s spec bump. I'll spend money elsewhere and buy it in a year when it's $50 cheaper and has more of a new backlog
👀
I mean totk being 70 is bad but that's completely unrelated
2 things can be bad at the same time
Wow. That's a hot take if I've ever seen one 😂
I mean I guess 60 would have made more sense
What’s hot about it? TOTK being BOTW with a bunch of new stuff doesn’t stop it from being good.
Ironically i think botw is the better game anyways and far more stable with performance
It just doesn’t automatically also make it worth $10 more.
Guys it's nintendo of course they keep the price high than electric billbl
True. I guess I've just spent the same or more on games that totally suck ass. So when I get my enjoyment out I use that to judge price
Like Mario kart 8 is still 40 to 50 price
Totk sales kinda nose dived compared to other switch games that have been super evergreen
Still sold well obviously
See that’s my take on it, I’m not surprised since it makes sense, and frankly I’m reserving calling them greedy for whenever they do the same bullshit $70 price increase other companies have been doing.
It's how Nintendo stays profitable. It's their market strategy. Sell cheap hardware near cost. Sell software at consistent pricing
It's nothing new
Joycon being used as a mouse will be awesome
But I hope they actually see that as enough that they need to do much more for the next zelda
I'll take a $300 switch and $60 games over a $750 PS5 Pro
I will take Wind Waker 4K 😂
No one's buying that ps5 pro sony is insane
You are not wrong You are not wrong
It doesn't even feel like we're half way through the gen anyways
Shit I’ll take GC Twilight Princess, just give us something!
Sony and ESPECIALLY Microsoft have been shockingly fumbling this gen
I'd kill for a twilight princess. Was one of my favs even if less popular
Xbox can pretty easily be described as “a self-perpetuating trash fire of controversy”.
Everyone was afraid microsoft was gonna have a monopoly over gaming with game pass and all the acquisitions
I mean just look at Sony. How many “remasters” are they doing at near full prices either just new textures and shadows added lol. That’s far more egregious whereas TotK was built on the same bones but had 70+ hrs of new gameplay
One thing is for sure. Midway through this Gen cycle I completely stopped remembering Xbox existed
PS5 ultra in 2026 😅 place bets
But they've just been shooting themselves in the foot every second they get
To be fair I forgot about Sony too until their handheld leaks 😆
Nah my bets on ps6 being a massive flop in like 2029
Xbox’s next console is in 2026. So can imagine Sony doing another mid gen bump
PS5 PP (Pro Pro)
Nintendo was smart giving up on the console market. The dock and "hybrid" is just clever marketing for slapping video out on a handheld
I don’t see Sony doing a refresh, I think their focus is on the handheld and PS6
They already refreshed + did the Pro model and at this point Microsoft could give away Xbox’s for free and not make a dent in Sonys market share
Need this Asap
They dropped out at basically the perfect time. And what's funny is back in the 3ds days people were dead set that dedicated handhelds were gonna be killed by smartphone apps
Yep and they got thier ps4 level device now
Supposedly the next gen snapdragons might almost double battery life. Would be cool if we finally started getting some handhelds/phones again.
Ah DARK TIMES
Nintendo was always strongest with handhelds
That's true. They also had zero competition for most of it. Heh
Nintendo said hold my beer
Hell the "hybrid" marketing made the nintendo console players accept practically 0 graphical bump to the next console
Literal gamecube to wii situation
To release a solid handheld consistently with lacking competition is still something to applaud tho
What else is there though? They can’t compete in the console space directly anymore
What is the console space anymore?
Of course but now we got sony want to complete handheld space
The steam deck probably spooked nintendo a little bit tho. I heavily believe that's why the switch 2 has the specs it does
I mean they are smoking the console war lol
MS and Sony are only going to continue hard shifts to streaming
I highly doubt the Steam Deck spooked Nintendo.
Nah, the upgrade is highly iterative
Two pretty different markets
It’s just as “outdated” at launch as the original Switch was
Nintendo execs had literally no clue how PSN and Xbox Live worked when NoA was talking to them about it iirc.
The gpu on the switch 2 is better than the steam decks
Nintendo doesn’t even know how their online system works
I highly doubt they care about the Steam Deck outside of people constantly posting social media of it pirating Switch games.
And look how bad that sold
Yep, exactly
X to Doubt
Gotta see the actual numbers on this because at the power consumption Nintendo will do it certainly won’t in handheld form.
Also it’s Nvidia so likely those numbers are boosted due to DLSS and AI nonsense like they do with their GPUs
At the very least the steam deck ripped gaming laptop companies a new one. And now they are all haphazardly rushing to compete with valve
Like, let's say the Steam Deck has sold 10 million units, to be extra generous.
Amazing for the PC handheld market. Astounding and hilariously over the top.
Fucking awful in the console market.
So it's older hardware. Who gives a flying fuck. They'll still sell millions and release banger games. Like Nintendo clearly gives 0 fucks
Shit, their Hybrid was and is still continuing to smoke all of Sony and Xbox’s current stuff!
Hell, they’re literally smoking the Steam Deck! The literal only “handheld” competition they have!
Honestly I don’t think it did much to the laptop market.
Gaming laptops, even base models, are still head over heels more powerful then the Deck and other handhelds can ever hope to be lol
The Deck just opened up a new segment to a market just like the Switch did.
Every Gen people are like "geeze Nintendo so far behind, they'll never sell them" and Nintendo's like "hold my beer"
More the price to performance
You can still get Gaming Laptops with 4050s that smoke the Deck for under $700 lol
I have only just realised they are still using that same dpad 🤦♂️
It’s a totally different person buying the two
Yeah it's still a Switch
Doh!
I know, I wish they put the Xbox dish one on it. We can hope right
Oh god no
Luckily 3rd party's can save joycons
3rd part again then
I hate that fucking circular dpad bs
Yeah this
Gimme a cross.
…Yeah, that’s about right.
Nintendos about to make me wait for the lite 2 with that 4 button "dpad"
My point exactly
Would suck if Nintendo strangled accessories as well
And yet the steam deck is 400
Valve can sell at a loss
So they basically have a cheat code
You realize that’s a Ryzen 5 right? You can get an Ally Extreme (or Z-extreme? I don’t remember what the naming convention for that version was supposed to be) for less than that.
Like Nintendo could absolutely make a power console like a PS5/XSX. But like, why would they need to. They save a ton of money using older/cheaper parts. They save a ton of money making games that aren't targeting super high graphical fidelity that one would want to use that high power for. Keeping it hybrid ensures that they keep their monopoly on the handheld console market, and a handheld should generally have less power consumption than a console tied to the power outlet at all times.
Literally doesn’t matter. A R5/4050 will run circles around a Deck and Z1E just because of power envelopes lol
An i3 with a dGPU will run circles around the handhelds too
What does any of this matter
Exactly. Everyone remembers when Pokemon was taken 3D...
In any case, gimmie new Mario kart plz
Pokemon taken to 3D was okay. It was really Pokemon taken to HD 3D that really started to burn it for me personally.
Because someone said the Steamdeck “ripped gaming laptops a new one” on “price to performance” and it just isn’t true lol
True. I just know they had a real challenge trying to use a more modern paradigm to even develop the game. Heh
But yeah this is the Switch 2 chat
Nintendo was smart enough to realize the spec race was a losing game
Nintendo realized that the spec race only really works if you win the race.
Especially with Sony and MS not being just game console creators
Yet you keep only pointing out devices $200 more
If you don't, cough cough N64 GCN, then you now have expensive parts that aren't selling enough to be worth it.
Ayo?
Yeah it's sick
Like contracts with hardware makers was always going to favor Sony and MS over Nintendo in the long run
There must be a bunch of new items if I had to guess
Doesn’t help that they had to do it in the same amount of dev time as other pokemon games, and that they’ve had to stick to that dev time duration to this day.
To warrant 24 players
Shit, ScVi got 3 years and only like around 90 devs to make what would normally be made with 5-6 years and over 300 in-house devs at least.
I’m scared of how bad NSO 2 is gonna be lol
If rumors are true virtual console is coming back
If thats part of Switch Online i will be happy
I imagine it’s probably for GC and other games not included with NSO.
Id be happy with that.
Having “free” retro games is a nice bonus
Nah mario kart 8 d online is bad
The netcode is wonky where if it shows you got hit on their screen
But not yours
It'll still count as a hit on you
Never experienced
It's more common if you play global
Especially in high vr rooms when you deal with a ton of Japanese players lol
Lol who has friends to use codes 😅😂 i just play strangers
Yeah there was no way we were ever getting gamecube or wii online
Nintendo still considers those "real games"
For port and remake fodder they can sell for $60
Same for 3ds
DS should be fair game tho
Switch 2 is rumored to have a mic so
And randomly $40 like Metroid Prime Remastered or Mario vs Donkey Kong for $50.
Like the prices they pick are just so weird.
You'd think they're just always go $60.
Would be funny if Russ get’s a ticket for first hands on. 😅
mario v donkey kong was a gba game tbf
and ngl 50 might still have been too much to ask for LOL
Who knows. Maybe they pay their devs a good salary. Lol
maybe MPR for 40 was some galaxy brain move to try to get more people into metroid, inorder for prime 4 to be worth it
but considering they did 0 MARKETING for it
and just shadow dropped it i guess they had 0 hope for it
Instead of relying on launch sales and then letting the game slide to bargain bin prices in 2 months. And whipping their devs to finish something new if they want to get paid
wild times we live in, Nintendo sees luigis mansion as more valuable than metroid
LM3 selling as well as it did had to be a shocker
it got them to buy next level so
Fine with that. If they just chased metrics we'd get Call of Samus: Modern Metroid 1-50
Hell yeah. Feed my switch 1
😂 just gimme Wind Waker Nintendo
It's all anyone wants. Haha
you meme but i always felt like Metroid Prime had the potential to give Halo a run for its money
especially if they brought back a hunters style multiplayer or something
No. I agree with you there. I just think Nintendo may have lost something if they fell down that hole
I don't want them to be the best. I just want them to keep making cool weird shit. Lol
Haha. True
Ok, who else thinks this dumbass just read the date wrong and thought “February 4th”? With the Switch 1 thing being rage clickbait?
i bought splatoon 2 had my fun
never felt the need to get 3
and with switch 2 being backwards comp unless 4 is a massive step up i might still be content sticking to 2 LOL
It is something and hand to a kid where they're just not shooting someone different from them in a desert tho
I sold my switch more than a year ago in anticipation for switch 2 lol, it was the gen 1/og one too
She might end up hating squid people tho
i ended up double dipping for an oled a year ago
but i got it used for an amazing deal
Lmaooo
I tried really hard to resist
I still have my launch. But it mostly collects dust after the oled
my original switch was half broken
Nice nice
Debating if I wanna come back and get a switch 2 or not 🤔
My switch 1 was collecting dust for the longest
Meant to go back and mod it. But I haven't kept up on that scene at all
I fully believe he unironically just read the date wrong and added the “Switch 1 games” bit for rage clickbait.
depends on the games for me ngl
i want to see if they are doing patches for switch 1 games
Still got my day 1 switch, still going strong but stays docked. But oled for everything else.
I even got a Odin 2 to hold me over with switch games and that also collects dust now
I'm fine with dust collecting as long as I feel like I got my $/hr entertainment out of it
Fair
thatll be a big part to move me over the needle, but since it seems like it wont actually come out until June ill be in a position to buy it at launch if scalpers dont ruin everything
Half my collection I bought is unplayed lol
Haha. Yeah. That's where the regrets come in
Yea..
but since they ALREADY started manufacturing back in September
Nah I'm laughing 😂
i think scalpers are gonna get clowned on
That said my steam backlog makes everything else looks ok 😆
I don’t think scalping should be an issue tbh this time around
Unless you’re in certain Asian countries
Or don’t have an official Nintendo presence
honestly ill say it MK9 doesnt look like that huge of a graphic upgrade from 8
It would be fine
I don't remember scalping being that bad with the first launch. Feel like they made a metric shit ton
but maybe were seeing the limit of just the mario artstyle at this point
Scalpers walking in and buying the whole wall of Switch 2’s, only for store clerks to just go to the back and fully restock it.
Yup. Lol
"Do it again i dare you"
Gamestop employee
Going to sell my ps5 asap ready for it
I'm just sad all the launch parties are multiple states away 😭
Nintendo is confident that they would not run out of stock
Ill be also surprised that places won’t limit to 1 per customer
Well experiences*
scalpers are the scum of the earth im just gonna be real
they know what they are doing is shitty
Facts
They're total shit for sure. But as the wealth gap increases people be struggling. I guess it's better than robbing people? Lol
“No, but supply and demand though. It’s the economy”
and i dont want to hear "oh its tough out there now gotta hustle to get by" nah the only people who can afford to buy a wall of consoles are already loaded
Nintendo is still like Donkey Kong out today btw
I could afford to buy a wall of consoles. If just skip my mortgage for a while
I’m sad (not really) that the switch 2 isn’t called NEW Nintendo Switch
Could pull an apple and just not even have new in there
Nah otherwise people would get confused
No, Switch 3.
That didn’t stop them before
NEW 3DS
No wait, Switch 3 Pro, they’re skipping Switch 3.
i fully believe the original Switch Pro / New Nintendo Switch was just scrapped from the chip shortage
Actually you are not wrong
Do you wanna buy a new NEW 3DS XL?
God. We're so consumer conditioned to expect a "pro" version of everything
But people would call it 3ds in general
I never understood that naming decision
Can't wait for my RP5 pro tho....
You say that as a joke, but I’ve seen some people be unironically mad it’s not something like New 3DS or Wii U. They wanted another wacky name, like the Super Switch.
I saw super floating around
They went simple this time
Good job whoever’s in charge
Not gonna lie. That's kinda fire tho. Imagine if it launched in SNES colors
Super switch sounds bit cool but again I'm glad they went simple this time
Of course, Super Nintendo Switch would be better, specifically to avoid Super Switch’s Acronym…
Japan and that guy have a weird relationship as is. So probably best not to 😆
I’m sad it isn’t OLED day 1
I'm hoping that means $300 tho
Mostly 399
Which its still cool
Rumors in other currency only put it at $328 usd
Eh, I can see it being the new $350.
honeslty im REALLY hyped for the switch 2 lite
Yeah. I'd be shocked at $400. It's a console Nintendo really wants you to buy one of for each of your 5 kids
itd be crazy if they got it down to like the size of the original switch but with the switch 2 hardware inside
The Switch OLED would possibly drop in price as well.
299 switch 2 lite
SPICY
No Oled
400 for Oled would be fair
Did they stop production on switch oled?
Honestly it's ok. I just picked up an Odin 2 mini. I'm fine with not buying anything from Nintendo til holiday bundles
Especially since the games will already be be more expensive
they are definetly gonna keep the switch 1 around with a price cut as the "budget" handheld
70-80 I’ve heard
This. I'd find it hard to go no OLED and ask for $400
WHATT
You know you’d still buy it
70 to 80 is crazy
Yeah and that tegra from nvidia isn’t that expensive
I’m kind of afraid on the chip
