I think I need at least 25 different variants of this before that's enough

tawny hamlet
#

First it was all the r's now here come all the K's

#

I think that's the R35 Plus that has just somehow been rebranded it looks suspiciously like the same company that did that terrible R35 Plus

void forge
#

this looks

#

so dogshit i wanna see a review on it

pseudo hound
#

It's not yet released

#

They all want a piece of the R36S pie doggylol

#

This might just be an RK3566 because:
#1 it's EmuElec (1GB RAM + 8GB EMMC)
#2 If this mockup is to be believed there is an HDMI port frog_think

#

huh wait that seems to be another device

#

This don't have one xD

polar stone
#

The clones should start switching to 4 inch

sick trout
#

the thing doesn't seem too ugly or unergonomic until i saw the d-pad

tawny hamlet
#

I want the Retro pocket 3 plus screen but with double the resolution like that 4.7 in is just a really nice size

the big butt looks like that of M18(R43P)

pseudo hound
#

Because purple is always the best seller 🤣

tawny hamlet
#

How many different one of these are out there that you're aware of we had our first and then we had O And now we have k?

#

R first

#

Also is this related to that k56 that everyone thought was going to be Powkiddy

surreal schooner
#

I love how many verticals have ass cheeks now

pseudo hound
#

This seems to be a new one trying to capitalize on the r36s success 🤣 Just appeared out of nowhere and posted on our facebook group and told us to watch out for his new product 🤣

tawny hamlet
#

I'm ready for my game Ninja to show up

pseudo hound
#

K36, Another 3326 clone?

pseudo hound
tawny hamlet
#

That looks like that k56 logo that was floating around

sick trout
#

THIS thing?

hard galleon
#

Oh yeah they both have that mecha like decals

full sorrel
#

These bad boys are cheeked up lmfao

tawny hamlet
#

umm so its Gaminja?

#

i just dropped my review of the ans01 and now I see they are dropping this with an actual rk3326?

pseudo hound
#

ooooh it probably is

pseudo hound
#

Gaminja K36

high python
pseudo hound
#

It runs EmuElec btw

full sorrel
#

Oh no

pseudo hound
#

now it's kinhank doggylol

#

it's huuuuuuuuuge lmao

#

Damn. 3.5 feet screen

#

Back looks sexy though

sick trout
#

They are the most modest about battery life with this kind of hardware arne't they

sick trout
#

Someone made a video testing it out. All 3 colors

#

Let me guess, weird menu

#

Oh right it's EmuElec!

sick trout
pseudo hound
#

The voice is familiar is that chinese douyin voice?

sick trout
#

No, an actual human as far as I can tell

pseudo hound
#

weird I swear I heard this from similar chinese videos before is that an accent then?

sick trout
#

Maybe because 玩机社 tends to get these handhelds early

worthy silo
#

yeah as far as i can tell this one isn't really a YLW/gaminja product, they're just distributing it. maybe they picked it up after the obvious disappointment in the ANS01/02 not really being rockchip devices lol

pseudo hound
#

I’ve seen them listed as Kinhank

worthy silo
#

yeah and kinhank never made handhelds so they're definitely just slapping their name on it too lol

#

i predict within a week or so we'll see it as a data frog or a boyhom or something as well

#

its nothing remarkable, but I like those decals on the front

quasi lake
#

considering its 4:3 emuelec device with 1 sd card slot, could this actually be a GF Chi clone? 😄

#

@coral dagger if you have any spare sd card laying around, could you try to flash arkos image for Chi?

coral dagger
quasi lake
#

I guess I havnt treated myself with some e-waste for some time and that 28 bucks price was too tempting

sick trout
#

Just one question for those who have THIS and the r36s
Screen. Better or worse?

pseudo hound
#

Planning to get one as well, the white one is calling to me 🤣

sick trout
quasi lake
#

maybe ask nick what he thinks, he probably has both

pseudo hound
#

imo the resolution and form factor of the R50S / RGB10MAX2 / RGB10MAX3 is the best.

quasi lake
#

RGB10MAX3 is 3566 though

pseudo hound
#

ah yes lmao i forgot that

pseudo hound
#

does the sdcard for this look like this?

tawny hamlet
tawny hamlet
quasi lake
#

front buttons look exactly like those on 353V, maybe thats why they are good

pseudo hound
#

Anyway I've looked at the dtb file for this and it's using panel 4. I think it's possible to install arkos using panel 4 with this.

quasi lake
#

so amberelec might also work unless they fucked up controls or something

#

if so I might actually keep mine, I was intending to sell it for profit after I finish messing with it 😄

tawny hamlet
#

going to test out v4 later today and report back

tawny hamlet
#

So far no luck I just get a blinking screen on and off

quasi lake
#

unfortunate

#

so AeolusUX for the rescue kek

tawny hamlet
#

I've tried a couple of different versions and I can't seem to get the right panel dtb I'll keep trying until I see if I can figure it out basically I am replacing the one that's on the card it came with and putting it in other versions of RK 3 326 CFW

pseudo hound
#

That's too bad I'll have to look into it when I receive mine. There seems to be another R36S Clone with the R36S shell but has the same insides as this device so

quasi lake
#

Does that one have just one sd card slot as well?

pseudo hound
# pseudo hound

Yea this one came from an R36s that wouldn't install arkos kek

quasi lake
#

oh jesus thats gonna fuck someone who will buy it

#

could you try to flash some official emuelec build (either OGA or Chi) and see if it works with the dtb file? I wonder what is this based on, sounds like its not a straight 351MP clone

pseudo hound
quasi lake
#

well there are only 2 public emuelec images for 3326, unless they have a custom build

worthy silo
#

wait so are there fake R36S now? the clone itself has been cloned?

quasi lake
#

its bizzare

#

apparently some clones are better than "real" r36s and run with the same system, some are diffent and on emuelec

#

I would really hate to recommend r36s to anyone now

worthy silo
#

lol

quasi lake
#

I hope that k36 can be made to work with arkos, looks like a nice alternative

worthy silo
#

i wonder how long before we'll see an R36S clone that has a VT569 or hcsemi chip or something

quasi lake
#

please dont give them ideas

pseudo hound
worthy silo
#

at least for that one they changed the shape a bit and gave it a new model number

#

so you know you're buying something different

pseudo hound
#

Whenever I send these clones to my contact he just sighs 🤣

worthy silo
#

lol

#

i mean his company is built on making clones so what can he do

void forge
#

this is like the rbg20sx but like

#

10% worse

pseudo hound
#

yeah that’s what I’m thinking maybe powkiddy was feeling the same before with the r35s 🤣

pseudo hound
sick trout
#

Which, YEAH, BUSINESS!

quasi lake
#

you know what, let someone make one with hcsemi b3100, I want a handheld with that kek

pseudo hound
#

but why i’d rather have a b3100 powerbank

quasi lake
#

or sf2000 shaped

pseudo hound
#

Anyone want an R36S with Allwinner A33 😏

quasi lake
#

we need a new frog!

pseudo hound
#

Oh yes that would be awesome with 3.2 720p screen

#

SF3100

worthy silo
#

well you know it was never really figured out what was in the ANS01 yet. makes me wonder if that could be a B3100

#

ofc i ordered one

#

can't resist something stupid to mess around with

quasi lake
quasi lake
#

so I have tried a couple emuelec images and couple arkos images with this dtb and no luck, this would need someone more knowledgeable

quasi lake
#

seems like they have removed the whole network section in the ES, which is quite unfortunate

sick trout
#

Then what the hell is the OTG port good for?

quasi lake
#

you can probably still connect usb drives and whatnot. Maybe ethernet adapter would work, but I dont have one to try

#

I like those buttcheeks for better ergonomy, the dpad is quite nice and buttons are not some connected bullshit as on r36s. But unless someone cobbles something better like Arkos or amberelec, I would not recommend getting it now

#

the market is too saturated and h700 line doesnt cost that much more now

sick trout
#

Just as I actually went ahead and placed an order for a used one
Cost bit more than the last time I took the r36s

#

Bruh

sick trout
#

While I'll probably like its ergonomics better honestly I think I'll probably fare better with an r36s for the second time, because with this thing I can actually consider getting a UART plug on it

#

Oh well, I'll sell it within a month with the loss being about the same as a simple meal

#

Whatever

quasi lake
#

now I need to get a long hex screwdriver to get to the screws in the buttcheeks, I cant open this with bits I have atm lol

sick trout
#

Oh that!

quasi lake
#

mine was for bit under 30usd total, so I think I could sell it even with profit if I need to

sick trout
#

Good thing I've kept the hex driver Anbernic sent me a while ago

#

The r36s really is just a toy with the smarts, with any and all derivatives/precursors trying to be a little "secure" about themselves

pseudo hound
quasi lake
#

Yes, there was dtb fail in error log

pseudo hound
#

That’s good news it tried but failed 🤣

#

I wish they’d cloned the rg351v instead so it has builtin wifi 😆

quasi lake
#

Omg I was thinking that, are you a psychic mutant or something? 😛

pseudo hound
#

well i recently got one for $40 and realized why the fuck didn’t they add wifi to the r36s and the size is comfy too

quasi lake
#

Some basic 2,4ghz chip would not cost a lot to add

#

Shame

#

351v is one of the best 3326 and probably the most comfortable vertical handheld

sick trout
#

Curious
Outside of occupying the OTG port's wiring, are there other ways of adding WiFi?

tawny hamlet
#

Whoops lol

quasi lake
#

Same goes with the file manager for me

haughty aurora
sick trout
#

Got my K36 "Gonsole" (see boot screen)
First impression? Probably the highest dose of buyer's remorse so far

#

But it DOES come with Mario stuff

#

As of now the display and the buttons are giving me positive impressions

#

RetroArch is fairly close to up-to-date too, at 1.17, so if it had WiFi, you could do some wireless connectivity with gpSP

#

No false diagonals on the D-pad and the pad itself is actually snappy. Almost better than my Anbernic RG35XXP

#

Okay have you seen this? There seems to be a second card slot, but they hid it and didn't use it. Anyone disassembled it and found it working? (Also, I hope our mods move this chat out of #1095014087232077935

#

Shoulder buttons have a bit of rattle and very loud clicks but I don't care about that

#

Speaker is really rough. The Anbernic Brick Plus blows it out of the water in terms of audio

#

It being downward facing is not as much an issue for me, but it may be for some, especially since you can mount it to be front facing - there's room for that

#

Two, some button presses don't register. And I don't believe it's the board's problem - it works 99% of the time, but the times DOWN and A don't register are really jarring

#

Three, the ergonomics don't work for me

pseudo hound
sick trout
#

Yeah it has thick handles, but the way the D-pad and face buttons are placed doesn't allow me to actually grab the handles well, and I still end up squeezing thin air (vids to follow)

#

Also EmuElec isn't optimized for this thing

#

SNES9X Kirby Super Star can't always run 100%, which isn't the case with, say AmberElec

lone notch
sick trout
#

How do you hold it? I tend to hold it as shown on the left
The pose on the right can cause a small fatigue on my hand quite quickly

lone notch
#

Yes! Exactly like on the left. There’s not enough room to grip the handles fully

sick trout
#

I still like smelling it though

#

Am I weird?

sick trout
#

So I played a bit of Apotris. The button feels almost made it hopeful as my favorite Apotris machine (previous favorite is Brik Plus), but then L and R are harder to press, and sometimes it misses my key inputs. Still no idea - have you found the same problem?

#

What a mess

pseudo hound
#

That's more likely a TF-GAME as well

sick trout
#

How'd you find AmberElec on this thing? It has the same characteristic "blue RED blue" LED sequence, and seems to turn on the display, but doesn't show anything

#

Will changing the dtb file and extlinux conf file work?

pseudo hound
tawny hamlet
#

R50s board from October 2023???

pseudo hound
sick trout
#

I kinda appreciate that the mpv player is overall well kitted out with on-screen displays of the scroll bar and everything. The only thing that comes close is the mpv player on Anbernic stock. (Kodi doesn't count)
Too bad the button mapping is wack. Volume buttons also control everything else, and I can't quit normally - I can only force it to sleep and let it error itself out
Also vp9 and av1 playback at 720p60 are pretty rough. The Anbernic Brik Plus on muOS handles vp9 better, but av1 just as roughly

#

My nomenclature goes to #1176206058570645534

#

Unless there is an easy way to get the recent AmberElec build working, this thing is going away to a good home.

quasi lake
quasi lake
quasi lake
#

amberelec would be nice, that would make it at least somewhat worth keeping for me

sick trout
quasi lake
#

looks like the least of the problems this thing has kek

sick trout
#

I listed my bigger problems, but you know I'll get used to it eventually

#

The buttons are just too good

#

And I can imagine grokking this issue for ArkOS will probably turn out to be relatively trivial unless something seriously doesn't line up

#

The biggest issue is the mis-clicks, and I haven't seen anyone address this - so I really fear it is my unit's failing

#

Does EmuElec lock RetroArch settings as aggressively as Batocera?

quasi lake
#

I wish someone would transplant the dpad and buttons on regular r36s shell

#

i am not too familiar using emuelec, but generally I think it should work similar as on jelos/amberelec, so it will often get overriden by ES

#

these all use batocera ES to begin with

sick trout
quasi lake
#

and I like how shoulders are angled, just too stiff, but I kinda like to use them more compared to my 353VS (same ergonomics as r36s)

#

but that butt grip just barely works for me, I feel if had bigger fingers, it would not work at all

sick trout
#

ALL keys misbehave once in a while

quasi lake
#

I havnt really seen this, but I played only this for like.. few minutes of random titles here and there

sick trout
#

A good round of Apotris should tell you all you need to know

#

I missed a jump!

#

RetroArch sometimes even think I'm holding down the hotkey for some reason

quasi lake
#

so I tried to play gba apotris for a bit and I did not have a problem placing tiles aside of my shitty tetris skills, not sure whats going on, maybe you do have a defect unit :/

sick trout
#

Adding to the misregistered keys, I can't imagine just what the hell was happening

#

Is the GPIO-to-mock-keyboard solution uniquely this firmware's implementation or really common?

sick trout
#

Dammit, both the FN key and the Y key are mapped in the system as button 3

sick trout
#

How much of the stock card should I clone if I were to migrate to a different SD card before custom firmware gets here?

sick trout
#

A weird issue
PS1 L2 and R2 keys don't work in-game despite being mapped correctly and working with RetroArch hotkeys. Went to "Settings - Controls" and remapped L2 and R2, and they started working

sick trout
#

Am trying other firmware distros
Rocknix seems to go a bit further - it actually turns on the display, but doesn't show anything

acoustic egret
#

It has some things to love, but ultimately the ergonomics make it tough for me to play on too long

https://youtu.be/f8DjfOL9r0c?si=b5wDy3nKnsffyd84

👉Stubbs reviews and gives his impressions of the new K36 from KinHank / Gaminja, this thing has very interesting...ergonomics? Another vertical RK3326 that features a nice 3.5-inch IPS screen and comes pre-loaded with 16,000 games, including PSP, N64, DC & DS. Is it ewaste? Let's find out!

is there no card in there for OS?

You use a single card setup for os and games

#

Like on OGA/OGS and some older clones

midnight vigil

weird that theres a 2nd SD slot on the board then

#

well that will probably be omitted in future revisions lol

Yes, I love the secret micro SD slot. I did a teardown on this thiccc handheld

Do you have board photos by any chance?

midnight vigil
#

i remember years ago hidden SD's were super common on Chinese tablets etc. they used to use them as the OS disk, honorable mention flytouch superpad 3

#

that was the first device i encountered with a hidden SD slot

quasi lake
#

Its still used for example in cheap ebook readers from Pocketbook

#

But there you usually dont write stuff too much, unlike tablets

sick trout
#

But I doubt it's the same issue on the k36, the boot card is exposed, while the game card slot is kinda just unusable

Unless you slice a hole on the shell

chilly cargo

YOU DID THE TEARDOWN

#

idk why i'm yelling

sick trout
#

With a complete lack of understanding of the handheld's structure, I tried to take the challenge, only to realize that if I were to add a card to the second card slot, either I'd have to solder wires to the serial port, or I'd have to cut a hole to the shell, or I'd have to take the laminated display out, in order to actually know what's happening. I'm not doing that to my brand new nugget.

Well, tried cloning the EmuElec partition-by-partition to a new SD card and failed

#

I only copied the EMUELEC (fat32) partition and the STORAGE (ext4) partition, as well as adding an empty EEROMS (fat32) partition

#

The original card had some megs of "unallocated" space that might actually turn out quite crucial? Or should I just

sick trout
#

Welp, adding the preceding 16MiB and adding the correct "boot" flag does nothing

#

Maybe it doesn't like my Kioxia SD card

pseudo hound
#

Why go partition by partition? Why not clone the whole card?

sick trout
#

That worked.

#

Now to figure out what files to take out and try to make a compressed image out of it

#

Bad news - By blindly clicking restoring EmuElec to factory normal, I made the dupe card unusable

sick trout
#

I think I've shrunk the userspace of the card to the smallest I need without looking concerning. The space following that can be completely unallocated and EmuElec won't care. Will that give a decently small 4GB image?
