#Live a Live

Did you grow up with a snes?
Nope. Never had one.
That's why I wanted to try several SNES JRPGs on the handheld. And PS1.
even if people had a snes as a kid they wouldn't have played live a live in the US lol
it wasn't even fan translated till the mid 2000s iirc
I'm in the Far Future chapter right now. ||Doing a really good job of setting up tension with the monster being loose, the captain dead as well as a few crew members.||
Yeah Far Future gave me ||Alien vibes, good tension and the music was really unsettling in the remake.||
Coolest boss design too
||Video game boss in a video game|| was fun. Too bad it was really easy.
Yeah, it was a cakewalk. ||it was the only required fight in the chapter though, so I'm sure they couldn't make it too hard.||
Cube ||is much more useful in the final scenario where you can actually use his other abilities, though I didn't personally use him because I already had four in my party by the time I found him.||
I think ||I'm in the final chapter now? I just got to the map in the middle ages.|| I'm pretty sure this is the last thing before the end of the game
You've got ||The Middle Ages chapter, and then the additional ending chapter whose length depends on which ending you want. The Bad ending is like 20 minutes. The Normal and Good endings are a couple of hours or shorter, but well worth it imo.||
Ah, it was kind of vague. I was thinking ||middle ages blended into the final, all times converge final battle||, but glad to know I've got more game to play.
In my flight of beer analogy from a few days ago, Near future is a beer I'd like a full pint of, Edo Japan is one I don't want again, and Modern days glass had a single drop in it.
So real
All right, I've got a question about the endings. No spoilers please, just checking one specific thing. ||How hard is it to get the best ending? Like, not "how," but is it the kind of thing you're going to have to go back to much earlier in the game for, or is this kind of thing all determined in the very late game?||
||I seem to recall there being three||
||its all very late game, for all endings||
good to know, thanks
JAPAN done. It's was epic being super Stealthy. Also a guest appearance from ||Goemon||
Yeah the ||Goemon|| appearance was fun!
LOL
Should of named my character Mike J
What does cheap Milk taste like? Would that be powdered milk?
That tuff guy went down with one shot. To quote MF DOOM "don't talk about my Ma's yo"
Billy is hard on this dad. He is trying his best.
Annie needs to go back up stairs and lay down.
Boxed milk. It’s like watery with a strange aftertaste but it’s pretty good
Milk of the field problem. Also the milk the KATUSA would always steal.
are you sure Cesar?
The Mariachi's are going to join the fight nice.
just do the right thing Sheriff. Weak men make hard times.
Western done. That is four stories so far. Not a disappointing one yet. People be crazy 🤪
Western was awesome.
The different vibes in all the characters are really fun. The mecha series near future, hyping for Matsu.
Just got done with present day. Wrestling and learn your opponents moves was great addition. Just the two futures left and whatever the end mission is. Should be able to finish by Sunday
present day was definitely one of my favorites
short and sweet and interesting mechanics
quite long
How long is the final chapter? I think I can get both futures done by Saturday. Maybe final chapter on sunday.
you can save some time by not going for the best ending and even more by going for the bad ending. there's a lot of optional content in the final chapter
bad ending
you mean the "correct" ending
||#oerstedWasRight||
No ragrets
I reccomend going for the true ending cuz it's badass, if you do probably around 5-6 hours
So the ending is good? I might go for the bad ending for Gotm. Then do the true when time isn't a issue.
yea it's great
it will be pretty obvious how to get the bad ending i think lol but ask if it isnt

For those of you who haven't bought it yet but have a block of time between now and the end of the month to grind it out, here you go
$25
Now I just have to actually finish it before the end of the month 😂
lol
Or don’t
Still for 25 I’ll put the remake on the backlog
The far far far backlog
EYYYY
So worth 25 imo
Good luck
I'll need it
Definitely not a binge game
osh. is it on sale on switch eshop too lol
id probably rather get it there
but yeah im not finishing it this month but i do wanna replay it
I can’t do the switch version after the steam version
Steamdeck and back and forth sync on my PC is win
this is how I feel about it
Cloud saves and auto-syncing are just
I sprung for the Normal ending, which isn't as tedious as the True ending, and it was hella rewarding.
Isn't true ending just have all 7 members in your party at one point?
You only have to "recruit" them. I never had Cube or Masaru actually in the party, but going and talking to them counted. Apparently the cowboy is an absolute bitch to recruit, so I skipped him and thus got the Normal ending. Still really good, but you ||miss out on an additional boss fight||
Cowboy is just go from the mountain to the castle
He's a bitch to re-recruit because he can be in one of his locations randomly
I was pretty disappointed by the normal ending though. Like, my boy was just doing his best and the world screwed him over. He didn't get closure. Just got stopped
||Sometimes death is closure, especially if you're a world-hopping psychopath||
Far Future done. That was... different
||Sad four of the crew had to die tho. :(||
||The ending sequence where Darthe and I were both off fighting our own separate battles was kind of cool, though? I like the touch that we got to see him get jumped by the behemoth just before our fight with OD-10. It created sort of a feeling that I was not fighting alone even though the boss fight between Cube and OD-10 was ostensibly a solo fight||
It had a very ||Aliens feel to it imo||
not an unlikely inspiration
prehistoric chapter artisans ||I just got kicked out of the cave. I'm going to guess I'll probably have access to an artisan again, but how hard is it going to be to get materials? the head-counting game is kind of tedious, but it seems like a reliable source, and I haven't crafted all the second- and third-tier items that use the stone knife or leather strap yet||
I have a save from about ten minutes before that point, so if it's easier to do earlier, I can go back to it
You get most of them just from random fights
I got most from the counting game, crafted all the best gear immediately, and then didn't care about materials the rest of the game.
I cant count so i just killed monsters
I mean it's a 50/50 chance at any time
Well that was certainly a || series of demos using a similar style built around stories that were told better the first time I saw/heard/read them. || Jack of all trades and all that.
Sounds like a
assessment of the game
Looked at my crafting list and the empty spots on it for the prehistory thing. Looks like I could probably do the head-counting game like another ten times and then if I have spots left over to fill out I'll be fine gathering later
(really a grid would be better but that's harder to format, especially in a portable way)
Kato is the dad we all need. Distance future done.
You have a
amount of time left to finish
Akira is best character change my mind.
i like cube. and sundown
Sundown
sundown is so cool
I haven’t found a chapter I dislike so far. Each is great and doesn’t out stay their welcome
The ninja one kind of annoyed me
That was my favorite. 3 different ways to finish the stage
||Medieval|| and Western were my favorites. Near Future close third.
Okay old man
You're getting a
bit of use out of that new emoji
Lol the lady on the bench ||mind is empty|| lol
Four stories done. They're cute and silly little vignettes. I want to say that Prehistoric feels slightly like it overstayed its welcome, but that was actually me grinding shit
I like that all of these little stories have their own unique mechanics, though some of them feel underused. But it fits with this game being an experiment where Square wanted to try some off-the-wall shit it didn't feel confident making a whole game out of at the moment.
Near future spoilers, big one actually ||Lawless being the killer of Akira's dad was kind of a surprise. I liked this twist but it also doesn't feel well-foreshadowed? This isn't a dealbreaker considering how short these stories are and that Akira probably didn't see it coming any more than I did||
I just started Modern and I have to say this is not an experimental mechanic, though, considering blue mages were already a thing in the Final Fantasy series before Live A Live came along. It's definitely a very different thematic application of it
Yeah it's thematically done well but also it's such a mega man setup lol
IIRC in the original the UI is literally just Street Fighter 2
nah nvm I think Iwas thinking of some fanart I saw once
I think it's just my familiarity with these kinds of tropes ||but I speculated from Matsu's dialogue that he used to be a Crusader just due to the way he acted so familiar with them, and since we knew from the intro cutscene Akira's dad was killed by a Crusader I had a feeling it was him. an ex-villian being so close to the kids of someone he killed as an act of repetance I see decently often as a trope||
It's never rly foreshadowed but I do remember not being too shocked when it was revealed
Akira's storyline the GOAT
best battle theme too
i really liked the china battle theme too
yea that one is great too
Honestly the best battle theme so far is Megalomania, but that's a given
For storyline-specific battle themes, the prehistoric one is actually kind of a bop
Not the kind of thing I'd listen to on its own like Megalomania, but it is good
I also really appreciate how thoroughly batshit this game is willing to be. It feels almost like someone at Square was having their FLCL moment
(near future big spoil) ||badass normal actually took so many drugs he temporarily developed psychic powers||
||which he then used to power a giant robot||
I'm sorry this is just kind of inherently fucking funny
also (prehistoric) ||little dude no shit fought a fucking t-rex to get laid and that's kind of amazing||
(near future) ||I also appreciate the game's willingness to own that Akira can really be kind of a dickhead instead of playing it off. Like his juvenile delinquency is not an Informed Attribute. And the description of Taeko's Furious Fist was kind of great for something as minor as a one-line item description||
(near future continued) ||for those that don't remember it, it was described as "the concentrated rage of a teacher who's sick of your shit," which, like, respect. They don't treat her like she's a bitch for being fed up with him||
Also the modern day guy answered something I've been wondering for a while
Namely, "what if someone was autistic and their special interest was fighting what would that look like"
Weird thing to wonder
Have you actually met any autistic children? That is their interest most of the time
isnt this just goku

Extra chapter done
That ending. So good and dark. I don't see how anyone doesn't like this game.
Is ||Oersted’s path|| the bad ending?
Yes
Any other protag puts you down the good end, who you pick basically is just your party lead
Thought so.
To get the true ending ||you gotta recruit every character in the final chap tho||
And ||play their dungeons?||
I dont ||think you have to do their dungeons but you should!||
Oh you aslo need to say no during a specific choice at the end but that will probably be obvious
Best ||equipment|| also, might do bad endings. Get point and not worry about time and finish next month
Oh wow this is interesting way for the bad ending.
Yea its so cool
Theres also an alternate ending ||During the Oerstead route fights, Get to lower health on one of the fights and try to flee, the command will change||
Oh nice I will have to try that. I really enjoyed this game. These 2.5 HD games are so good looking after they took down the bloom.
Ah yes, ||the Apocalypse route||
25 completions. Way more than I thought
Just beat the game in the nick of time.
It's funny that I decided to go evil after listening to my old Marilyn Manson albums for like the past week
I've been on a villain arc lately. I'm feeling it
also psychic juvenile delinquent continues to be great
||"Oh yeah I don't trust you either!" postmodern fight music||
Akira is the GOAT
he's such an asshole kid but in a really charming kind of way
He's a bit too much of an ssshole to be my favorite, but I enjoyed him and his arc nonetheless.
also I'm kind of digging that two different arcs had battle themes featuring sax
That one Cave Story track sort of turned me on to sax potential
The jazzy themes were
for me, loved that
Also the name for the Near Future battle theme sounds very much like something Akira would name it
Maybe I would of enjoyed it more if I played with sound
jesus h. christ
yes, you would
you don't sleep on the music in Square games
squint.
dead people can't hear either
Some things this game did make sense when I consider it's only eight years younger than Dragon Quest (1)
Like the thing where they ||saved the medieval fantasy arc for last, and it's also the one where they decided to go ham on subversion of the standard plot||
Which I can appreciate
